The old woman scowled and sipped at her tea. A scent of lavender curled up into the air as Titania wafted her purple tinted tea. Petals floated in the steaming liquid, she watched longingly as they swirled around in the heat. This house was decorated well, but certainly, a bit dated. The elderly woman put down her cup, the porcelain container clinking against the saucer of a similar floral design. "The beast I'm speaking of guards an entrance to a magical place, one with a river." Titania almost gasped at the sudden statement. She had spent the last half hour buttering the elder up into talking but was getting nowhere. Perhaps the woman knew of her origins, but it was unlikely. In order to make an attempt at returning to Lacheln, or whatever remained, Titania needed to gain access to the river first. She did not know if it was possible to enter back in through the river from the bottom, therefore it was now her goal to scout for any possible entrances. There was at least one entrance, but she did not know of its location, as roughly a century had passed since she had passed through, while unconscious too. From her tone, Lucid could tell that the woman was not finished talking. "This entrance is located deep into the Lavender Forest, guarded by a strong monster. The entrance is a large and deep well, with a hole at the bottom. Coiling around it, is a large snake, but I forget the details." Titania was skeptical, how had this woman come to know this information? Perhaps she was just looking for the company, but something seemed plausible about her details, it was not something she could put her finger on. While replying, the Fairy attempted to keep her voice cool and neutral, without any accusatory subtones. "Where did you find...... this information?" A look of sadness flashed over the woman's face. Her eyes scrunched up harshly before she opened them and shook her head. "My husband was an adventurer, like you. He was looking for something in the forest when he found it. Terrence was unable to slaughter the snake, and therefore returned in defeat. He died a few years back, but I still remember each and every tale he ever spoke." Titania was not used to handling human grief, and was, therefore, uncomfortable. Instead of offering her condolences, she nodded her head and thanked the kind woman before taking her leave. As she crossed the threshold, she pivoted around on her foot to ask one more question. "Do you know...... Where any strong heroes are?" The elder nodded, before pointing out of her old faded window. Taking a few steps to get closer, she peered from the violet tinted glass, and saw a uniformed man with dark raven hair. This time, she actually left, waving down and calling out to the man as soon as she made her way down the mossy wooden steps. |

Walking a small section of the beat in Poinsettia, a lone greatcoat-clad sentry strode with purpose as he prepared to finish his patrol. The district that he had been assigned to was rather quaint, if not a tad dull at times. An occasional demeanor and petty crime was committed here and there, but even then those occurrences were relatively rare, which was more than he could say for the places that he had patrolled in before. The tour of duty that he had been assigned to within the reaches of West Bosco were fraught with countless moments of danger; every so or so meters the private recounted that the unit that he had patrolled with had halted, performing a myriad of different sweeps and searches for whatever the enemy may have had in store for them. Traps, soldiers laying in ambush, hell, maybe even the odd artillery strike. Those moments had been engrained within the knight's very being as amber eyes flitted about nervously, attempting to discern what lurked beyond the shadows of the neighborhood. Every dark corner was a potential place for an ambush to occur, every window a vantage point. Ruslan shook his head ever so slightly, rebuking himself internally for such thoughts. It wasn't likely at all that such an occurrence would befall him again, at least for the time being. Bosco was nowhere near this very place; hell, this wasn't even a foray into the lush forests and rocky outcrops that characterized that land. Mere patrol duty within a relatively peaceful city was what it was, nothing more, nothing less. But still, nagging thoughts continued to flit about the man's beleaguered head, evoking familiar, yet painful emotions of the war at hand. It was a terrible feeling, a gut-wrenching one, the likes of which tore at his heart and thoroughly hurt his soul. And he hated it. Brandishing a peculiar looking flask from the confines of his pouch, the knight popped open the cork, before studying it in close detail. A peculiar blue fluid it indeed was, complete with markings and etchings that denoted the item simply as what it was: Bottled Help. At this, the knight chuckled wryly; such was indeed what the cocktail of SSRIs was. But as for how helpful it really was, the private knew not. It had been the man's only friend during times of great sorrow; the weeks following Kaspar Pass were but one of those moments. In a sense, it was a chance to gain a respite against the lingering guilt that lurked within. But on occasion, it had proved less than helpful on duty, for one of the many side effects that the corpsmen and orderlies had warned of concerned the fact that acute photosensitivity was liable to manifest with too many consumed, exacerbated by the fact that he had already been taking them bi-daily. The man's musings were soon interrupted as soon as he stopped at the very end of the strip in which he had been ordered to supervise, perceiving that kind old woman whom he had shacked up with sometime ago call out to him from the old townhouse. It was a rather intriguing place, seemingly worn and tired from the outside perhaps, but with an appearance that belied perhaps a comfortable interior. At this, Ruslan sighed in recollection, as he reminisced the time spent quartering within that accommodating and gentle crone's house back when he was but a destitute, unemployed bum from the sticks. There was a certain homey atmosphere to that place in which he stayed at, an atmosphere completely different from the austere and spartan feel of the dorms back in the Academy, and that apartment that he had made his haunt shortly thereafter. But, this was of little matter to the reason why she even contacted him in the first place. Perhaps there was something that she needed? The private began to walk over to the location of the lady and that beautiful old house with all due haste; so brisk was his pace that the heels of his boots reverberated across the pavement in a rather distinct noise. No sooner had he reached the threshold of the house did the private promptly screech to a halt, before removing his kepi. "Ah, hello ma'am. It's a pleasure to see you again. Might anything be the matter?" |

For a woman who most likely had health conditions, she moved quickly towards the uniformed man. Titania had no trouble keeping pace, but it was certainly surprising. From what she could see, the man and the woman had recognized eachother, it was fascinating to see their knowing expressions. "It's some good to see you too. Actually yes. This pretty little thing right here needs your help. Here, I'll let her do the talking. See you around, my kettles probably piping out louder than a bat outta hell." On her way back, the woman walked just a bit slower, as if she had been excited to see the soldier. Titania's pointy ears picked up a laugh from the senior, the cause of which remained unknown. When the elder had stepped aside, she revealed Titania, who stood in a daze mixed with just a slight amount of shyness. This man was a soldier and was probably much stronger than she could ever be. It felt wrong for her to be asking this, especially due to the power she had once held. Regardless, she swallowed her pride and spoke. Returning to the Arcane River was much more important than any scrap of dignity or independence. "Uh.......... I need help finding A well and fighting a...... monster. I need an escort to protect me against the creatures of the forest. If you need motivation, let me take out my..... gold." With an ever so slight smirk, she reached behind her back and focused her bond to the Arcane River into summoning a glob of it. At the use of her magic, large ethereal butterfly wings sprouted from her back. They were a combination of pastel green, pink and blue whose design had very noticeable similarities to that of a monarch. They hovered and flapped ever so slightly as she condensed the Arcana and gave it the veil of a large beige pouch filled to the brim with gold coins. She held out the opened drawstring pouch in her hands, which had the approximate size of two coffee mugs. After giving the man an eyeful, she returned it behind her back, dispelling the Arcana, and with it, her wings. The ethereal appendages that had grown from her back dissolved into the clean and crisp air. Techniques

Ruslan nodded ever so slightly upon listening to the old woman state the issue that she needed to be addressed, gesturing all the while toward the lass right behind her. Evidently, it appeared that this particular person needed help of sorts, the likes of which had resulted in him being referred for some reason unknown to the knight. Perhaps it pertained to agriculture or horticulture? No, considering the fact that the lady knew that he had joined up with the Knights of Fiore, chances were that it was something that had something to do with his role as an infantryman. And to that, the man harrumphed, before acquiescing. Inquisitive eyes scrutinized the person that the old lady had directed him toward, someone whom she said seemed in need of dire assistance. The person appeared to be a comparatively youthful looking lass, with a slender, yet lithe build. She was a curious looking lass, the likes of which seemed to stick out amidst the local populace that he had seen and interacted with during his time stationed as part of the city's guards. Of particular note was probably the manner of dress that she wore, crafted out of materials and created in a style most unfamiliar to the man. Even more so the particular appendages that were her ears, long pointed things that tapered in a rounded point, a queer occurrence that the private found most intriguing. Perhaps it was a particular fashion sense or style, similar to the varied crowd of people within Mizhou? Surely that explained the clothes that were a part of her ensemble, that much was certain, but what of her ears then? The knight paid such superficial physical appearances no mind shortly thereafter; exponentially more important was what the woman seemed slightly reluctant to speak of. Watching as the girl swallowed her pride and began to speak, Ruslan opted to humor her request, standing impassively just a couple meters away. The plea that the girl had tried to convey was indeed certainly intriguing; the mere location of a well, in addition to protecting her from denizens of the wilderness that were well within his scope. To further ram the point home, the girl produced also a rather large bag of sorts, attempting to entice him with what seemed at first to be gold, as if he were a mere sellsword. But the man would not be perturbed; attempts at bribery would not be accepted, especially considering he was still technically on duty. But upon further scrutinization of the coins themselves, it seemed that there was something off, something different about them. There was something different too, about that girl, who now appeared to have wings sprouting from her back. Magic. As fate would have it, the gold soon flickered and dissipated into a blob of shifting colors, a useless attempt at bribery at that. But it was upon discovering this that the man found himself empathizing with the lass's plight; if she had been so desperate to resort to bribery in the form of illusion magic, chances were that the issue was of dire importance to her. At that, the private mulled over what his decision would be, before deigning it within his scope of power to assist her regardless. "I have half a mind to detain you on account of bribery, ma'am. But I'll be lenient and look the other way. Though it may not be much, I don't mind serving as an escort." |

Not knowing if it had worked or not, after the man had spoken, Titania returned her hands behind her back to dissolve the illusion, and with it, her wings. Apparently, bribery was illegal, and while she certainly knew of that, she wouldn't expect it to have been applied to a relatively positive question. Perhaps the man wasn't even allowed to leave his post. Titania briefly wondered if he was putting the man in a bad position, one that would get him fired, but quickly disregarded the thought. These people, most likely soldiers or knights, were meant to aid the citizens of Fiorre in their needs of protection or general aid. Besides, it wasn't like Poinsettia was that dangerous of a city anyway. Regardless, Titania nodded and thanked him. She did not want to be sent to Hibiscus. Like usual, Titania spoke with her dreamy and half-awake voice. "Thank you, I appreciate it....... Dearly. I need to save this money I worked so hard for to save on food, therefore.... I am thankful. I do.... require your service as an escort. While I am a magician, a weak elemental-make kind, I am too much so to handle most creatures deep in the forest. I have been told a well exists, one with an entrance to my world from which I have been untimely cast. I need to get back somehow, but the legend says that the well is guarded by a....... Monster of some kinds." Titania swallowed, very embarrassed at the prospect of asking for help. The apples of her cheeks grew more red than usual as she stood, still anxious over the whole bribery thing. Phantasmical Daydream 2

"I see," remarked the knight rather neutrally. Truthfully, the private was unsure of what exactly he had set forth into upon being referred by the old lady whom he had boarded up with but some time ago; even with the briefing that the woman in front of him had given him the man was still attempting to process the particulars. Evidently, the girl claimed to be from another world perhaps, in which she required a bodyguard to ensure her safety traversing through a forest that supposedly contained a well from which she could return to her homeland. At this, the knight found himself most confused, struggling to grapple with what the woman had stated. Another world? A well guarded by a monster? If this was an attempt at a joke, then it was certainly not in good taste. But at the exact same time, there was no denying that there appeared to be a certain sense of weight in the girl's words, the likes of which made it clear that what she had said was probably not a lie. Chances were that she earnestly believed that she had indeed come from another world, and as unlikely as it may be perhaps it could possibly be true. Things that vexed the mind were a common occurrence back in Seven as well; if such supernatural and incomprehensible things were possible in his homeland, then perhaps there was some truth in what the girl had said. Regardless, the private decided to humor the woman on behalf of the old lady; it wasn't as if he was deserting his post, after all, his shift had already ended. Ruslan shifted his feet ever so slightly, before resting a hand on the familiar scabbard of his guntō. It was almost paradoxically both a wicked thing and a close friend of his at the same time; many an occasion had it been used to draw blood and rend lives from the living. But on the other hand it had also been responsible for keeping those who sought harm on himself and those that he had fought alongside with at bay, a trusty partner that he could count on at the end of the day. The same could be said for the sidearm enclosed within the holster strapped to his thigh. Still though, he was apprehensive about using them once again in an active manner outside of the front; every time he did it brought back memories, terrible memories that the man was tempted to bury but ultimately was something that he could not allow himself to forget. "I owe a lot to the lady living here, so I'll help you out, ma'am." In the span of a few moments, the man eventually picked up his feet and walked over to the door, treading over worn and creaking floorboards. As he eventually reached the threshold, the private donned his kepi, before nodding ever so slightly at the old woman. Indeed, he would assist the girl in what little that he could, repaying his debts or so to speak. Not to mention, helping people in need was technically what being a knight entailed, though in truth the man knew that protecting Fiore's interests were really what his career was about. More seconds soon passed, as he turned to view the girl again. "Private Gudleifr by the way. Where do we start?" |

Titania had not followed the knight when he went to thank the older woman. It was more than likely a private thing and given her incompetence when it came to social situations, she decided it would be better to keep herself at a distance from whatever he was about so say. Eavesdropping was not something she enjoyed doing, but it happened pretty much automatically to a lot of people. Once he had finished his conversation or whatever he planned to have done, the fairy girl approached up the steps to respond to a question that was now directed towards her. The knight stood tall, with an almost overbearing presence. "It is an honor to meet you.............. Private Gudleifr" Rubbing her eyes, she yawned. It was getting just a bit dark, twilight setting in over the horizon. Titania had never been in the lavender forest during the dark, but she assumed it was just a bit more frightening than during the day. Given the fact that she was absolutely terrified of the monsters within normally, she dreaded entering but knew it had to be done. WIth a bit of an unsettled slur, she directed him to the forest entrance with a pointing hand and directions by mouth. "Right there, that dirt path that cuts around that misses's back yard" At the end of the road, was a large pink house. It had beautiful white trimmings that almost gave it the aesthetic of a dollhouse. Alongside it, were two rows of neatly trimmed trees that provided shade down a pathway extending past the backyard. At the end of the path, was the entrance to Lavender Fortress, where it was darker and less approachable. |

Heavy footsteps plodded upon the dirt path as the private set upon the excursion with his partner, with a grave complexion as they trod past the trees and lush, yet eerie vegetation that characterized the entrance to the Lavender Forest that proved to be a part of Poinsettia's jurisdiction. The man himself felt a tad apprehensive about navigating the ever winding and tangled woods with the woman, especially at night. It was extremely easy for one to get lost in the enchanted forest itself, alongside the fact that supernatural forces could probably well lead to their untimely demise within the vast expanse. Chances were very likely, especially with the looming approach of the evening, that his skills would probably end up having to be used once more. Tightening his grip on both of his armaments, Ruslan began to scan the surrounding region warily, all the while attempting to recount the briefing that he had been given back at HQ concerning the particulars of where this girl was trying to lead him. From supernatural creatures that sowed great depredation and suffering upon unwary travelers, to mystical horrors that drove grown adults insane, it was more than evident that this very place itself was a dangerous place to venture into. With that in mind, the man understood clearly now why the lass had requested his help. In retrospect really, maybe it had been a wise decision for him to had been selected for the escort. His homeland was much the exact same way to the forest; incomprehensible horrors had completely ravaged the land in the wake of Melchitus's Folly, leaving masses of people awash in copious amounts of fear and despair. But perhaps, if applied differently, the enchanted forest could very well become the equivalent of his home turf... Striding past the rows of neatly trimmed trees that flanked the pathway, the knight attempted to psyche himself up with such thoughts, only to fail miserably. At the end of the day, the fact that the forest was an extremely dangerous place hadn't changed at all. And the issue lay within the fact that he, alongside the lass were making a foray into that occasionally beautiful, but ultimately horrifying area. If anything, though slightly different from West Bosco, it was a combat zone; his escorting of the lass was essentially a patrol, albeit with someone that he needed to protect at all costs. And so, the man gritted his teeth in apprehension, as the foreboding setting of the sun soon left the two as prey to the darkness that began to swamp the road ahead. "How much further?" (OOC: Apologies about the post.) |
