The hidden man, If you can find me Ill be here.

New day a new adventure. Or least that is how Hikari saw it. Who were they going to meet today? Would they meet an old friend or a new one? She didn't know but the possibilities were endless. Though this eating thing was getting a little tiring. Did she have to do this everyday, multiple times a day? She knew she would forget and even though Ana was reminding her there would definitely come a time where they both would have to do with the issue of her forgetting again. They decided to do a picnic. Even though Ana wasn't eating much a few things of fruit as they were a little sweater making it worth eating for her. Though it was getting dark and both of the girls were getting confused why there were a lot of people going into their buildings. It was also getting chillier which was making Hikari shake a little. This was a little more unpleasant and it getting slowly harder to see. They understood the part of time of day but they didn't understand why people had life focused around it. What was weirder to the two girls was the fact that people were looking at them strange? What was so weird about eating? Everyone had to do it didn't they? This was confusing and angering Hikari because she didn't want to deal with eating and people could get away with not doing it. She wanted to know how and why people would lie to her about having to eat. They just kept sitting there though. Not talking to each other because Hikari was slightly mad at Ana and Ana was trying to enjoy the food she was eating. As it took some effort because she to concentrate on eating. They were not far from a building people would call a guild. Not that either of them knew what that was or what it was for but it was convenient for them because it had a bench. Though there were times people asked them if they went to Blue Pegasus and they had no idea what that was. |

Faint tinges of red and orange were just barely visible in the sky, obscured by hues of dark blue that heralded the end of the day, and the start of the evening. It was a delightful phenomenon, at least to the many that had been out during that fateful time. Truly, a picturesque moment, that complemented fully the grandiose architecture and harmonious blend with nature that the bustling city of Poinsettia was able to provide. But such mattered little to the haggard-looking man that had navigated his way across the labyrinth of streets that characterized the general metropolitan region. The heavy plod of footsteps was made audible as he continued onward, passing through the vast expanse of a nearby park, chocked with lush vegetation. Indeed, in retrospect perhaps the mere sight of the carefully maintained grass and lush shrubberies should've been quite calming, but as the knight was, it only served to irritate him further. The colors were too bright, not at all to his liking. The vibrant colors of the plants, in conjunction with the verdant flora felt out of place, a cruel mockery almost that didn't reflect the tumult of emotions that had pervaded the private's mind throughout his sojourn within the city. Ruslan continued to ruminate as he ventured deeper within the vestiges of the park, his complexion that of one that was deeply troubled, an ever familiar expression that had become more and more prevalent within the man's face ever since the Battle of Kaspar Pass. The harsh reality of the battlefield had taught him well on that fateful day, lessons that had been engrained within the traumatized fellow's mind ever since that moment. It was just a damn pity that the price of such a lesson lay within the lives of his comrades, those brave souls that had perished at the behest of his temporary command. With a clenched fist, the man began to grit his teeth, attempting unsuccessfully to subdue what feelings roared within. It was his fault that poor boys such as Squire Cotter had perished on the battle. It was his fault that they all had died, while he had lived on. At the very least, he should've honored their memory, or at least trained ever harder to prevent such an occurrence from happening again. But what was he doing? Just several days prior, he had been presented a chance to go on leave from the Knights for the time being, a down period to be used sparingly until he had recuperated from what the orderlies and corpsmen had dubbed as 'Combat Neurosis'. What he despised was the fact that he had taken such an opportunity, but still had no particular goal as to what to do. To that end, the Seveni had found himself presented with multiple...situations, in which he thought would be an ideal method of atoning for his incompetence, and the dire consequences that it had wrought on the field of combat. There had been times where he had contemplated doing that before, only to find himself too much of a craven to do so. There had been times in which the man had broken down into a blubbering mess, reliving the horrors of that battle, the countless mounds of putrid and decaying flesh, the sloughs of mud, tainted with the spilled blood of people, Boscan and Fioran alike. Only now, it was due to a regular infusion of SSRIs that he had been able to remain stable. It was at that precise moment that Ruslan remembered the other reason why he had stopped at Poinsettia in the first place. It wasn't just supposed to be him wandering aimlessly after requesting time on leave, no indeed it was not. Nor was it to visit the local garrison close by; the knight had bad blood with the commander of the nearby Knights stationed to keep order within the city. The man was in dire need of SSRIs, and perhaps food and drink to quench his dampened spirits. The field hospital had run out of supplies in order to treat his affliction properly, in which they had recommended some apothecaries nearby. But just where would he find them? A light breeze blew from the front of the young man, buffeting him in a relentless torrent of wind. Shivering from beneath his overcoat--a drab thing that appeared to be heavily worn--the man soldiered on nevertheless, before perceiving a pair of two people positioned at a nearby bench, snacking on perishables and sustenance at a dimly lit area, no less. At that, the private's musings soon gave way to worry as he began to approach the two; although things appeared fine as of that moment, considering that they were snacking at an area in which there appeared to be little in the form of light, it was probably better for them to move somewhere else instead. Who knew what bad things could happen when night came, after all. "Probably not wise to loiter around a dimly lit area during this time of day." |

Having a late night picnic was having some problems. Not that Ana could feel the cold so much but it was definitely effecting Hikari who was shivering even though she didn't understand why. It was also very uncomfortable and wish she knew of some way not to be uncomfortable. Maybe it would be wise to go somewhere else but where? The two were kind of at a loss if they were going to go somewhere, as they kind of needed a place to go. As they were eating though a male who they had never met came up to them. Hikari was kind of ignoring the man until he said something. Ana had noticed but she was thinking that he would just ignore them as everyone else did. His words confused Hikari. She didn't understand one bit. Ana just wondered why. Not that she was disagreeing but her reasons were probably not the same as the guy's. "Why?" Hikari blurted out. She didn't understand but she was curious enough to ask. Not that she was focusing on him or even looking at him for that matter. Still working on her food which made the why a little harder to understand because of the food coming out of her mouth. Ana on the other hand did look at the guy and asked "So why should we not be here? Isn't this public space?" She had talked to a man in a black uniform about public spaces earlier that day. Noting this place would be fine for something to eat. Hikari again said before the man could say a word. "Yeah, why?" Finally looking over to see who this person was. Which didn't catch her interest so she went back to what she was going. Which made Ana shake her head. Wanting to say something about her sister but not wanting to interrupt this man further she was going to wait for a response. |

Upon listening to the queries that had been issued by both of the girls, the knight rubbed his forehead and sighed. It wasn't due to any particular sense of irritation or exasperation toward the two; if anything the man had done so due to his blunder in formulating such a poorly phrased suggestion. Indeed, considering the pink..no..black haired one's remark, it seemed that he had only appeared to make himself seem all the while more suspicious. It was a tone that belied a sense of apprehension, at least, such was what the man had surmised. With that in mind, Ruslan concluded that the best thing to do was to assuage the potential suspicions of the two who had been picnicking beforehand. Perhaps by explaining his rationale they would be better able to understand what he had insinuated. But that was something that was easier said than done; considering that they seemed equal parts confused and wary of his motives, at least from his subjective standpoint. Already, the private was awash with a sense of awkwardness, the likes of which only served to detract from his plan. Regardless of that, the private successfully managed to work himself up into addressing their question. "It's dark..and cold. Not optimal weather for a picnic in my opinion. It's public space, that is true, but at this time of day, it could be dangerous to remain." Who knew what on earth could possibly happen if the two were to remain within such a dimly lit park, especially considering the time. The sun had long since set a fair amount of time ago; the guardsmen stationed within Poinsettia were also stretched thin and undermanned. In a sense, it was a potential recipe for disaster. True enough, the city wasn't as dangerous as Trillium, Dandelion, or hell, the vast expanse of West Bosco where his comrades had lost their lives. But there was no denying that any large city would be more dangerous at night, and his career dictated that he nip potential recipes for disaster in the bud before they occurred. "I apologize for interrupting your excursion, but it's just a safety precaution." Surveying his surroundings, the knight scratched his head in uncertainty as he perceived the fast approaching darkness that had begun to engulf the park. A sole light at the opposite end of their location provided a bit of illumination, if only just. The breeze had picked up somewhat, nipping at the man's face and heavily calloused hands. In any case, it would probably be best if they vacated the park in search of another place to dine at. Come to think of it, wasn't there a place nearby that served half-decent grub at the very least? Upon further rumination, the knight concluded that there indeed was. Pointing in the direction from which he had came from, the private momentarily set aside the matter of obtaining his prescription medication for the time being, opting instead to direct the two somewhere safer. Perhaps, it was there that he too, could at least get something to eat and drink before continuing onward. The trip here had thoroughly left him famished; recuperating would therefore be necessary. "There's a pub over there," said he. "It may be safer to dine there instead of over here, what with such little lighting and all. Just a suggestion I suppose." |

Not that Hikari was listening and now she was just playing with her food. It tasted good but having too much started to hurt her tummy. She really was not sure how this human stuff worked and she was getting annoyed now. Though she caught a few words from the man and she was not one to keep her mouth shut so Hikari asked him "So is this what cold is?" Looking up at the darkness, She had read about cold and darkness but she had never felt or seen anything cold before. It was a new experience and with that made her have even more questions. "If this is cold, is this shaking caused by it?" Tilting her head now looking at the guy. Ana wanted to stop Hikari from saying something stupid but it seemed that her question might have a valid point. If this was correct she would understand more how to keep Hikari safe. Cold could kill people and if her reactions were meaning she was cold that was not a good sign. There was no damage to her sister yet as she knew the signs of things like hypothermia but she didn't understand the basics that people learn more through common nature as both of them never had that kind of life. Trying to get a good composure and as Ana actually was listening she continued to ask a few more question to this gentleman or least that is what Ana was thinking. Not many people would try and help two girls out and not be a gentlemen or trying to do them harm which she was a little tense now thinking about that. "If it is safer we could go to a pub." Looking toward the direction the man pointed. After getting her answer Hikari started hoping around because it made her feel warmer. Ignoring the conversation again. For Ana Hikari was her first priority and she definitely didn't want to have her cause harm. "Would it be a problem to ask your name, sir?" Ana asked with a curious expression. Wanting to know a little more about this man standing in front of them. Easier to trust someone and she knew not to go with strangers; As going with strangers was something she knew as a bad thing. Though she didn't understand why. Or even understood what a stranger really meant but that was not a topic Ana would bring up. |

"Not a problem," muttered the knight as he stood in front of the two girls in front of him. The one from before with the bi-colored hair who appeared the elder and more responsible of the two had posed yet another question, the likes of which the private found understandable considering how he must've seemed relatively suspicious to them. With little information for them to go off, save for the motive behind why he had approached the girls, it was perfectly natural for one to be wary. In all truth, it had been when that girl had inquired for his name that Ruslan had realized fully what an amateur mistake he had made. To not have committed to such basic pleasantries such as identification was indeed a blunder, something that was also further compounded by the fact that he probably had left a bad impression. "I'm Ruslan. Ruslan Semyonovič Gudleifr," said he solemnly, switching his attention to the other. "And yes, your shivering is caused by the cold." The private extended his arm with an outstretched hand, perceiving the both of them with a grave complexion that seemed to attempt--only to ultimately fail in--what was supposedly a reassuring smile. For while the corners of his lips had perked up slightly, it was evident that the knight's thoughts were focused on another matter, or matters at hand, attempting to make light of the situation. There had been many moments in which he had been suffering ever since that bloody battle that he had participated in; periodically he suffered from nightmares and other symptoms categorized by the corpsmen and orderlies as 'Combat Neurosis'. In order to combat that, he was to take medication, the likes of which were to be obtained somewhere within one of Poinsettia's many apothecaries. But then there was the fact that he was also famished from the trip...and there were those two to deal with as well. Amber portholes continued to eye the people in front of him, staring at both the girl who had addressed him, and the other, who had commented offhandedly on what cold was. Seeing the way the other girl reacted, the private's expression changed, softening by an ever so slightly above infinitesimal amount, as he reflected on the conversation that the two had made just as he had arrived. The way their dynamic seemed to be with each other, how the woman whom he had conversed with had interacted with what he assumed was someone whom she was related to, it was all fairly familiar. Within the bosom of Ruslan's overcoat lay a silver pendant that, thanks to the duo, the man felt more keenly aware of. Looking at the two girls interact with each other was bittersweet in its own way; after all he had been like that at one point in his youth with someone also very dear to him. In a certain sense, it was somewhat refreshing, nostalgic even. But at the other end of the spectrum, their dynamic served only to remind him ever more painfully of how he was too weak to protect the people that he cared about the most, in which he had lost something, certain someones that he would never be able to see again. In that regard, the private's feelings concerning the two and their relations with each other consisted of equal parts jealousy and yearning. But reflections and musings related to this matter were of little significance to the topic at hand. First things first, presumably getting these two to a safer location where they can have their meal and probably enjoy a view--or lack thereof. Swiveling around to face the direction from which he had entered the park from, the knight turned his back, before posing a question of his own. "And you two? How about your names?" |

Ana was wondering if they should trust this person. Knowing his name made her feel a little better but there was nothing that told her to be wary of him but they were both young looking girls. Sure Ana could hold her own but she did not want to deal with the damage that could come to her sister. Least for now though she would just have to be keeping an eye on this man. "Boo, I do not like cold." Hikari said as she started to jump around. It was making her less cold. Not that Ana understood but there was no point in stopping her and she knew that heat was generated by movement and cold could kill people so that was something she wanted to avoid. Taking a deep breath just from trying to process things and a little frustration that Ana had some from her sisters and others from her own insecurities she replied to the Ruslan "My name is Ana and this here is Hikari my sister." Then Hikari added "It is fully Anastasia but no one calls her that. Also I am calling you Russ. No if ands or buts about it." Wagging her finger at the guy and having this face like she meant it and to not get on her bad side. "Hikari!" Ana yelled at her sister. Though it was definitely a strong voice it was not particularly loud. It was more a forceful yell. Her face getting all scrunched up in anger. Ana was thinking that was no way to speak to someone they had just met. Sticking out her tongue at Ana, Hikari ran away. Not going too terribly far but trying to least put some distance. Knowing full well that Ana was faster then Hikari and that she couldn't get away if she really tried. Not sure what to do Ana stood there trying now to face the man and attempting to keep a straight face. Which for the most part was working but if you were looking you could see her face becoming a little red with anger but where it was completely noticeable it was in Ana's hand where it was now in a fist; though she was upset she wasn't so angry that it was making her knuckles white from the squeezing too hard. Trying to break her anger and to maybe make this not so awkward, not including she felt like she should apologize Ana said "I am sorry for Hikari she can be a handful sometimes." Hoping that this man would understand. Edited by sazhuy, Dec 18 2016, 07:01 PM.

The actions of the girls, named Anastasia and Hikari elicited a slight chuckle from the seemingly morose private as the latter began to jump around and promptly wander off. It was amusing really, the way the two of them interacted; Anastasia definitely appeared to be the more wiser of the two, whereas Hikari seemed the more lively of the two. In a sense, it was similar to that family from before, the Tangs perhaps, what with that trio of little imps and they way they had interacted with him on that day. More intriguing however was the fact that the two girls' relationship and interactions with each other seemed less like that of sisters, but more akin to that of a mother and child. And to that, Ruslan found himself most piqued by the two, temporarily forgetting the other matters at hand that he had opted earlier to accomplish. "It's fine, Anastasia," the knight stated matter-of factly. "I've had to deal with some people who were...a handful as well. Russ though...that's a relatively interesting nickname." What the man had stated before was a half-truth in of itself; there had indeed been moments where he had dealt with people who were most definitely a handful, but apart from those children that he had befriended within Mizhou, alongside that of the vermilion-haired girl during his first tour of duty, the knight hadn't exactly developed cordial relationships between such folk. Rather, his dealings with people who proved to be a 'handful' typically revolved around keeping such folk in line. An irate, chair-throwing fellow who sought no other recourse other than dueling and besting him in combat, or a gaggle of gang members overstepping their bounds. A handful they indeed were, and in his interactions he had dealt with them accordingly, operating according to SOP. But the girl wasn't that sort of a handful, such was what the private was sure of. Watching as the platinum-blonde haired lass sped off into the distance, the knight merely stood back, unsure himself of what exactly to do. Run up and catch up with her perhaps? With his physical skills taken into consideration, a burst of speed up onto that point wouldn't be hard for him to pull off, not at all no. But what held him back was the potential consequence that could follow were he to do so without the consent of the girl standing right next to him. Chances were that committing to such an action would damage relations first made upon interacting. First impressions were key in most scenarios, after all. But then again, if the girl were to vanish into the incoming darkness all by her lonesome, it would be a particularly arduous task to locate her within the expanse of this park. Plus, it was getting colder. A strong chill pervaded the very air itself as the wind began to pick up, howling across the grasses and rustling the trees. An occurrence that too, heralded the arrival of the evening, and with the warmth of the sun no longer prevalent, that of cold as well. If the drop in temperature was why Hikari had begun to run in the first place, then it was somewhat understandable to do so. But there remained another viable alternative, a place where the two could dine in peace and warmth. That being the pub. With that in mind, Ruslan cleared his throat before hollering toward the general direction of the girl who had sped off. Across the noise of the wind, which had crescendoed into a roar, perhaps it would be hard to hear, but at the very least the knight had attempted to make himself heard. "If you don't like the cold, head back over here! There's a place nearby that isn't cold, if you two are alright with it." Carrying his point across, the knight turned sharply, peering at Anastasia once more. "This arrangement should be ideal, for both you and her. If it's an issue however, let me know." |

There wasn't seeming to be anything wrong with this plan. Though she heard of awful rumors that going to places after dark was dangerous mostly for young maidens like themselves. Ana had heard too many things about Bars and couldn't or didn't know the difference. So it was making her hesitant on going but this fellow was becoming less of a stranger and he looked like he could keep anyone of too much trouble at bay so Ana was only going to agree if he accepted her terms. "Alright we can do that." Ana replied to Ruslan. "But going just us two girls seems dangerous. I think it would be better if you come along." She was not sure if he was implying if he was going to come along but she was definitely not going to take any chances. Not knowing that eating too fast or too much could be a problem and then going and running around. Hikari started to hurt which was making tears come down her eyes. She was not sure what was going on with her and she did not like it. Before she knew it though the food she had eaten previously was spewing out of her mouth. This made Ana react. What was going on with her sister? Sure she knew the knowledge of human health but they were from books that she had not read in decades. So instead of trying to do this calmly Ana sped over to her sister hand on her back crying herself. "Ruslan what is going on? Is my sister going to be okay? She isn't dying is she?" Her expression was in total fear. She was not worried about her own sake as she was tied to her little sister. It was the worry that this was in a way the only person Ana knew, on top of that they were family even in a weird sense. Hikari was not doing much better on keeping herself calm either. It was not helping with what Ana was saying and the horrible feeling that came from her stomach even if it was already starting to calm down. "I don't want to die" came from Hikari almost as a whisper with a little bit of gurgling from the vomit still in her mouth and the fear in her voice. |

Almost immediately, Ruslan was taken aback by the particularly distressing scenario that was presented before him: the girl named Hikari from before, in a case of misfortune, had begun to start vomiting, spewing out chunks of partially digested food in copious amounts. It was a particularly distressing scenario to the knight, considering the fact that he had not a clue as to what exactly might've been the culprit behind the poor lass's affliction; this was further compounded by the fact that Ana had seemingly begun to panic over what was going on, going so far as to express the notion that perhaps Hikari herself might die. And for that, the private himself was awash in the sheer gravity of the situation, should her vomiting be a symptom of something fatal. Food poisoning, cholera, which had both claimed many of his comrades at the front, were but one of the many horrible and potentially fatal afflictions in which vomiting had been a characteristic of telltale symptoms. For that, the knight was afraid, that this girl could very well suffer from such. Even if it weren't the case, it was still better safe than sorry. "Deep breaths ma'am, deep breaths. You aren't going to die, at least that's what I think." The man began uttering whatever form of advice that he could offer the poor soul, trying his best to provide a sense of support for the girl. It was a tad distressing from what it seemed thus far, in which were it that her affliction was truly caused by a disease, the nearest medical center that the private knew of was still a ways to go from their location. Still though, it would be better not to give way to panic, for that could surely worsen the situation, and the mood of the lass. With that in mind, he glanced quizzically in response to Ana's sentiments of apprehension and replied with a simple shaking of the head. As he did so, Ruslan slowly began to fish something out of the vestiges of his coat. "Once she's calmed down somewhat, try giving her these for a while. It should work," stated the private. With hand extended, the man produced a small retort pouch laden with some simple means of sustenance: hardtack, that terrible thing that he had gotten used to over the course of several months. It was an unpalatable food, that biscuit; it had barely any flavor at all, and was simply much too hard to eat properly. But one of the few redeeming properties that it had lay within the fact that perhaps, just perhaps it could help treat the girl's nausea. After all, they had been most useful as a ration to those of his colleagues that had suffered from dysentery and other gastrointestinal maladies at the front. Thus, the man surmised that maybe it would be better if after she had begun to recover, the girl focused on refilling her stomach with those. Then again, this plan was extremely tangential at best; were the girl to refuse to accept them it was completely understandable. A cold chill continued to blow through the expanses of the park, as the setting sun finally faded away, with the darkness of the evening soon taking its place. The backdrop of the gleaming lights of the city contrasted in a beautiful myriad of colors against the background of the night. But no sooner had the sun finally disappeared at last did the weather soon take a turn for the worst. Apart from the fact that Hikari was vomiting, it was beginning to become extremely cold. Frost had scarcely become present, beginning to cover the grasses and vegetation present within the vast space, threatening to snub out the flora with the encroachment of the freezing winds and low temperatures. Already, Ruslan had begun to feel uncomfortable by the cold; by now he was truly shivering. There was no doubt that perhaps Ana and Hikari felt the same way, in which that pub certainly did seem like a great place to take refuge in for the time being. But what mattered currently was her wellbeing, especially considering how she had started vomiting. (OOC: Sorry about the choppiness of the post.) |
