DOSSIER![]()
APPEARANCE [tabs][tab=Physical Description]Focused on her mission, and with an attitude that leaves little room for frivolity and pleasantries, Setsuna cuts a no-nonsense figure. Her black hair is trimmed short so that it rarely gets in the way in a fight, sweeping down just at the neckline. Her bangs are styled so they never get in the way of a fight, revealing almond-shaped eyes cast in a purple hue, filled with an eternal fire of determination that are quick to shift into quiet, cautious observation. While her pale as snow skin would indicate a quiet, sheltered life, the truth is just the opposite. Her body is both built and engineered for athleticism, with long legs perfect for movement and agility, and long arms that end in slender fingers, perfect for gripping the hilt of a weapon. Beneath her smooth skin lays muscles built up through years of practice and movement, that are equally capable of performing katas and attacks as they are for running, jumping, leaping, and avoiding a decapitating swing of the sword. Though well-muscled, Setsuna still retains a modest feminine figure, with subtle curves to the legs and hips, and a modest bust, though the latter is occasionally bound to stay out of the way. Fitting her lifestyle, Setsuna's body is littered with scars. Scars that she's earned through battle, through rite of passage, through honor and victory. But there is one scar, long and deep in the form of a cross between her breasts, that is no such honor. It serves as a reminder of the family she's lost, and of the man she chases so that she may avenge her clan, and her own honor.[/tab][tab=Preferred Attire]Setsuna's attire ordinarily consists of articles of clothing that are comfortable and allow freedom of movement. Usually, this is shown by her usual outfit which consists of a darkly colored (usually either black or a dark shade of blue) skirt, a plain slim shirt, combat boots, and tights or stockings. When necessary, she will slip into a plain black jacket or a thicker, longer overcoat during colder weather. Said outfit is the norm for her, worn during missions as well as being used as casual wear. Setsuna rarely wears clothing with a girly or truly feminine appeal despite likely having the body for it.[/tab][tab=Image Gallery] [/tab][/tabs]PERSONALITY [tabs][tab=Summary]Allegorically speaking, Setsuna is much like snow: cold and harsh at first glance. However, snow is what also keeps autumn seeds warm and safe until spring. Her cold demeanor hides a warmer, kindred personality, one that is loyal, honorable, kind, and gentle. But there is a shadow buried inside of her, one that compels her to seek vengeance, and she constantly questions her motives and means, but is nonetheless unable to escape the cycle of fate.[/tab][tab=In-depth]Typically, Setsuna comes off as a rather calm individual who seems to be relatively aloof to her peers. It's not difficult to notice that she tends to keep a bit of distance between herself and others. On the surface, Setsuna often appears cold, serious, distant, and maybe a little unemotional. She usually is not the type of person to initiate a conversation. Instead, she seems rather quiet and reserved as if she is contemplating something. What she could be thinking about could be anyone's guess. She is rarely ever rude or abrasive, tending to keep a rather polite demeanor. Of course, that part of her personality can be shoved aside if irritated enough. When she does do so, however, she seems more cynical than actually irritated. Setsuna will appear casually blunt and dismissive but rarely ever straightforward even when provoked. In this state, a conversation with her leaves one with the faint feeling of being mocked. At any rate, she's usually in control of her emotions. Even when she does seem angry her fury is more of the 'tranquil fury' variety rather than a 'berserker's rage.' Of course, she does not keep everyone at a distance. Those that have penetrated her somewhat icy exterior find an intelligent, amiable companion. Her words and actions often prove her loyalty to her comrades. Just as she is loyal to her companions she expects the same of them. Once someone has lost her trust, Setsuna remains wary of that person until they have proven themselves otherwise. To those that harm or friends or innocent life, be it emotionally or physically, Hanf is likely to react and return the favor. Her greatest asset is her ability to remain calm and think through situations. She is a pretty good problem solver and thinks very logically. She is capable of keeping her cool and concentration when under stress, which is when this trait stands out the most. She tends to fight while planning several steps ahead of her enemies, calculating actions and moves rather skillfully. She ordinarily prefers to avoid fighting, but one would find that in the case that she actively participates in it that she is more than a handful. Allegorically speaking, Setsuna is much like snow: cold and harsh at first glance. However, snow is what also keeps autumn seeds warm and safe until spring. Her cold demeanor hides a warmer, kindred personality. She tends to treat children very kindly, acting something like a typical older sister and looks out for her companions.[/tab][/tabs] HISTORY [tabs][tab=Summary]Born the youngest of two daughters, Setsuna Hanakami was raised by her father who came from a lineage of esteemed swordsmen. Their familial fighting style, the Hanakami Hitsurugi-ryu had been passed down throughout her family for generations. Though her parents did not bear a son, Setsuna and her elder sister were nonetheless trained in the clan's legacy. She now wanders the earth, searching for her fated adversary, knowing that doing so goes against the wishes of her father and her ancestors.[/tab][tab=In-Depth]Born the youngest of two daughters, Setsuna Hanakami was raised by her father who came from a lineage of esteemed swordsmen. Their familial fighting style, the Hanakami Hitsurugi-ryu had been passed down throughout her family for generations. Though her parents did not bear a son, Setsuna and her elder sister were nonetheless trained in the clan's legacy. Though the training was difficult and rigorous, Setsuna and her sister persevered. They fought, trained, and practiced, all in the relative peace of their clan's home in Minstrel. In time, they soon advanced from the clan's sword style and shifted into their magic, a well-kept secret hidden in scrolls in their secretive vault beneath the village itself. Many sought the clan's schooling, as well as their scrolls, especially the militants who sought to return Minstrel into an imperial state. Time and time again, their father refused, as his fathers had done in the past, for as elegant as the style was, it was brutal and relentless in the art of war. For a time, Setsuna and her sister argued with their father that they should use their sword for justice, to help other places who were less peaceful and prosperous as their own little village. But, once more, their esteemed master and father refused, hoping that one day his children would understand, for justice is often determined not by the righteous, but by the victor. Before either of the two could come to understand this, Setsuna's elder sister decided to leave the village, determined to see the world and use her skills for what she believed in, claiming that they were going to waste by staying in the village. This hurt Setsuna deeply, but she held faith in her father despite secretly desiring to join her sister in the outside world. Soon, however, Setsuna's world would be turned upside down. Obliterated, perhaps, would be the more accurate phrase. One day, a man shrouded in a blue hooded cloak, wielding a pristine black and silver blade, with bronze fittings, came to the village. He asked Setsuna's father for her father's tutelage, but he refused. On the next day, the man came again, this time asking for the clan's scrolls. Once more, her father refused. On the third day, the man returned, but this time he merely cut her father. It was a bloody battle, both were scarred and injured, but the stranger's injuries healed time and time again, and he wielded a foul, black magical mist which assailed her father, stealing his very breath as if draining his soul. Luckily, her father survived, but the injuries permanently crippled him, casting him into a deep coma from which he has yet to recover. Filled with a whirlwind of emotion, Setsuna set off from her village for three main goals. The first was to find a way to cure her father's condition. The second was to find her sister, who was somewhere out in the world unaware of what had transpired in the village. And the third was to find the man responsible for all this and bring justice to him, justice that could only be delivered by the sword. For a man who lives by the sword must also die by the sword. For this, she only had one lead. There was a man in Fiore who often wore a blue hood, who wielded a blade that was practically identical. Setsuna set her eyes, and her revenge, on Artorius Sidonis, the man who she believed destroyed her family and her village.[/tab][/tabs] Edited by Mazohyst, Nov 2 2016, 10:15 PM.

MAGIC![]() Technique Points: (23/24) + [18/22]
DESCRIPTION Hanakami Mitsurugi Ryu is a combat and magic style that has existed in the Hanakami clan for hundreds of years. Well-renowned for its grace, elegance, and also its fluid economy of movement. The basic Hanakami art consists of four primary stances, known as the Four Gentleman or the Shikunshi, named after flowers and plants that are often depicted in a particular traditional style of Minstrelian art. Each stance reflects four different plants. Ran, the Orchid, utilizes gentle but powerful curving blows. Take, the Bamboo, uses hard thrusts and rising strikes. Kiku, the Chrysanthemum, features long, sweeping strikes with great reach. Ume, the Plum Blossom, features scattering blows aimed to wear down and wither one's opponents. There are also numerous other forms which are off-shoots of the four, and in fact, creating one's own style is a rite of passage among members of the Hanakami. This form of the Hanakami Mitsurugi Ryu has not one, but two magic types. This is the first, which empowers one's combative abilities with flower-based magic, providing a variety of effects. To perform these feats, Setsuna requires an implement, specifically her favored sword. These feats consist of abilities that boost one's movement, allowing them to maneuver across a battlefield quickly, increasing the striking power of sword swings with magic, and also a myriad of other sword-based techniques. Additionally, techniques have synergies with the second part of her magic, such as gaining increased effects when utilizing stances correctly and properly. These techniques are not purely offensive, as there are also a variety of other techniques, such as those that defend, and those that debilitate an opponent. TECHNIQUES Saku (Bloom) - 6 Type: Offensive Range: Self Effect: Once per post, Setsuna is capable of empowering her attacks with her own magic. This is a "stanceless" form, meaning it gains no benefits from her current stance, though it can be used in any stance, making it a versatile ability. When striking her opponent, Setsuna's first successful sword strike against them deals additional moderate slashing damage, capable of causing painful cuts and wounds. This technique is Setsuna's passive Mastery technique and confers a 40% discount to A-Class and below upgrades to her Holder weapon. Kaori Hokori (Fragrant Dust) - 6 Type: Debuff Range: Melee Effect: Infusing her blade with magical energies, Setsuna delivers a quick sword strike. Once her blade hits an opponent, a fragrant pollen will quickly assail them. The Fragrance debuffs the enemy, sapping away at their physical effectiveness. Depending on which stance Setsuna is in, the technique will debuff one of their stats, reducing it by an amount of 41 for 3 posts with a 3 post cooldown.
Tenraiken Odo (Imperial Sword Dance) - 6 Type: Offensive Range: Variable Effect: Infusing her blade with magical energies, Setsuna delivers a quick sword strike. The sword strike is delivered in a different fashion depending on which stance Setsuna is in. For instance, in Ran the strike is performed with a gentle sweep at melee range. In Take, it is a hard, quick thrust. In the Kiku stance, the technique is a spinning, sweeping slash with a wider range. With Ume, the technique is a quick series of multiple strikes. This technique has a 2 post cooldown by default, and the technique is naturally melee unless empowered by a specific stance.
Hanakami Hirame (Flower God Flicker) - 6 Type: Offensive Range: Melee, Varies Effect: Sheathing her blade, Setsuna assumes a sword drawing stance while simultaneously empowering her sword with magic. In this state, Setsuna prepares to intercept a single incoming melee strike and counterattack with a strike of her own. In the moment of drawing and striking, Setsuna moves at 60 Speed at this rank and deals severe slashing damage. Depending on the stance, this strike has different effects based on the stance that she is currently in. This technique has a 3 post cooldown.
