Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Profile
Name:Zane Tolliver
Nickname: Book worm
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Height: ~150 cm
Weight: ~65 kg
Guild: N/A
Class: D
Affiliation: Neutral

Appearance
Physical Description: Being shorter than his older brothers, Zane looks younger than he is, a fact which gives him nothing but discomfort. He is relatively scrawny, and has a light complexion. With messy blonde hair and big, dark blue-green eyes Zane is often described as "cute" especially by his mother and sisters. He prefers to describe himself as youthful, awaiting his next growth spurt (which he has been eagerly awaiting since he turned 16). He has a bad habit of reading while he walks, so he often hunches over with his nose in a book. When he isn't reading his posture is usually fairly reserved, as he scrunches up to take as little space as possible. However when excited or challenged he puffs up like a peacock, which has very little effect due to his diminutive stature.
Clothing: Practicality is paramount! When out and about in town the young word smith prefers comfortable and loose fitting clothing, generally in muted colors, or neutral and earth tones. When forced to dress formally, either by circumstance or tradition, he tends to shy away from tightly fitted suits, prefering again a bit more slack. When his exploits take him away from the comforts of the civilized world he tends to prefer practical over comfortable. He'll choose pants with many pockets over his favorite pair of worn jeans, and hiking boots over loafers. Even then, he strays away from bright colors and intricate designs.
Accessories: Glasses, oval in shape with frames made of a golden colored metal. Without them Zane is uncomfortably near sighted, which gives him a considerable disadvantage against any opponent beyond melee range.
Extra: None currently

Personality

Initially, Zane seems shy and reserved. In truth, this is because he over thinks and over analyzes nearly every situation. He's fast to think, slow to speak and act. He's never unfriendly though, and has often been described as being a good listener. When he get's more comfortable around someone, or when the situation warrants it, he comes off as very mature and well spoken, although some accuse him of being a know it all due to his preference for big words and overly detailed explanations. Once he starts talking, it's nearly impossible to get him to stop, as his thoughts run away from him and his mouth tries to keep up. Unfortunately, he is a bit prone to tangents.
While usually calm and thoughtful, Zane does have a few buttons that, when pressed, cause him to abandon rationality in favor of wordy insults and wasteful displays of his magical power (which currently amount to very little). These triggers include being unneccessarily rude, and damaging books. Unfortunately, do to his small stature, even when angered Zane often doesn't rectify the situation. He's been told a multitude of times that he's cute when he's angry. Which usually just makes him angrier.
Finally, Zane loves books, word puzzles, and all manner of mental exercises. He can often get lost in these obsessions for days, telling himself he'll eat after the next chapter, he'll sleep once he solves this riddle, and then breaking these oaths on the grounds that he "can't just stop there."

Skills & Disciplines

Well Spoken and Well Read: Spending most of his young life engrossed in books, Zane knows lots of trivia, history, magic theory, and a few languages. In fact, when it comes to knowledge, Zane is a jack of all trades. He doesn't know everything about anything, but knows something about lots of things.

Walk About: Having spent the last 2 years traveling Fiore more or less on foot or by train, Zane usually knows where he is, and has his favorite places in each major town.

Magic
Magic Name: Grimoire Library
Magic Type: Support Focused-Grimoire
Tier of Magic: Tier 1
Rank: 2
Magic Description: The classic image of a wizard hunched over an ancient tome reading words of power to channel great magic is one that is not common in modern Fiore. After all, many schools of magic require very little intense study, and others are not recorded anywhere they can be read. Regardless, there are powerful spell books in this world, that hold the instruction to work magic from the lowliest cantrip to the mightiest ritual. One only needs the knowledge to find them, and the will to unleash their power.
Grimoire Library is that will. Not quite requip, as the grimoires are more powerful than any melee weapon, not quite a summoning as the tomes possess no will of their own (usually), and not quite a take over because the mage doesn't change his appearance, this style of magic none the less allows a broader collection of spells than the average mage, at the cost of not being able to access them all at once. Much like summons and Take Over forms, each tome has a base allotment of Tech points equal to twice it's rank. Unlike those schools, the tomes possess no statistics, do not buff the caster, and possess no items or natural weapons. The Grimoire's cannot have any technique with a higher rank than it's own.
Invoking a Grimoire is a stressful process, and as such can only be done once a post, and cannot be done during a Grimoire Library Cool down (similar to Take Over forms, the base cool down is 2 posts. Some Grimoires might alter this.). Because of the power these books carry (and their size), simply carrying them around is impractical. For that reason, a practitioner of Grimoire Library binds the books to their soul, creating their own private Akashic record in a sense. When the time comes to release these bound books the mage must speak the tomes entire name, after which it manifests in a manner appropriate for the book (A treatise on fire magic might explode into existence, a book of curses might emerge from the caster's shadow with a dark mist). Regardless of the method, this is not a subtle magic. Using it is quite an obvious affair.
The books summoned are constructs of magic based on the copies the mage has bound to his soul, and thus cannot be stolen as they fade from this world at the duration's end. However, they can be damaged. In most cases the books can endure damage as a shied of it's rank (going by the suggestions here), though certain tomes might be more or less durable as described in their technique entries. If a book is destroyed before it's duration ends, the Invoking ends prematurely, a cool down begins, and that tome cannot be Invoked for the remainder of the thread. If it's duration ends before it can be desroyed, it maintains it's damage level for the rest of the thread. For this reason, Librarians are loath to allow their spell books to come to harm, as they are powerless without them.
As for the magics contained within the Grimoires nearly anything is possible. Obviously, forbidden magics, and magics that cannot realistically be recorded are off limits (Dragon slayer magic I'm looking at you). Archive magic, summoning magic, and and Take Over magic are likewise not possible to duplicate with this art. Elemental magic, support, and other common varieties of magic are all fair game however.

Techniques: 3/3

Great Fortress - 1
Type: Grimoire
Range: Personal
Effect:"With these words I construct that which will never fall, I ask your protection, Great Fortress!" With the sound of a hammer striking steel, this heavy book seems to construct its self out of bricks. Bound seemingly in stone and clasped with steel, this book appears as though it must weigh several pounds. Luckily it supports itself using a magic circle, the same gray color as the rest of the book. The Great Fortress is a book of defensive magic, focused around making barriers of magic and stone, and making the caster and his allies more resistant to damage. Due to it's heavy construction, it can take a total of three weak strikes, or one stronger strike. At this rank, the Grimoire has a duration of 4 posts.
Abilities

Hyperborean Winds - 2
Type: Grimoire
Range: Personal
Effect:"Let your howl be heard from the north and south, and your chill felt to the bone. I release your tempest, Hyperborean Winds!" With a loud howl this blue/white book forms from a rainbow borealis. Seemingly made from ice and snow this book releases a constant mist, and is much to cold to touch. Luckily, it is held aloft by a frozen wind. This book is more fragile than most, and can take only a single weak hit before dissolving into ice and snow. The spells contained in this book are focused on bitter cold and mysterious lights, simultaneously hampering the mage's opponents while dealing small amounts of cold based damage. At this rank, the grimoire has a duration of 4 posts.

Nice to see the finished product!

-Add a bit more description to the wooden staff. A basic shape would be great. Like, if it's curled, pointy, whittled into something?
-Your Technique Points are off. You are using all 3 of your points, so it should read 3/3.
-I would state exactly how many hits each Grimoire can take, just for clarity.
-Stone Shield: The shield needs dimensions, since you said it was a floating shield. The cooldown should be 2 Posts.
-Private Fortress: The cooldown should be 2 Posts.
-Bitter Cold Borealis: Take out "about" in the range. be precise! The part about not being able to move for one post, while I understand the reasoning, the spell is only Rank 2 shouldn't have that effect quite yet. Remove it for now, and when the spell ranks up, it can come back! I also need dimensions on the fractal.
-Predatory Winds: Same thing with the range, remove the "about". I would remove the extra damage thing here as well. Remember, the low level spells don't do a whole lot in terms of damage and utility. This is something that can always return when it ranks up! Damage at Rank 2 is classified as "Minor" so your spell should reflect that instead of saying "Damage is average at this rank". The cooldown at the least should be 2 Posts. Also, describe the dimensions of the attack. Just saying "wind" doesn't really tell us how big the attack is. Keep in mind the rank of the spell when determining that number.

Everything looks better. Only thing is Predatory Winds doesn't have the damage listed quite right yet. Closer though! The damage is causes overall is considered "Minor". That means cumulatively it deals "minor" damage.
