Account Name: Drakkar ![]() Faceclaim: Minami Ikki - Air Gear Image Imporium
Magic Name: Gambler's Luck Magic Type: Exquip/Teleportation Fate Magic Tier of Magic: 1 Rank: 1 Magic Description Techniques [tabs] [tab=DRAW!] Rank: - 1 Type: Requip Range: Self Effect: Ansens pocket dimension releases a flurry of cards around him, concealing him for a moment(Flavor more than actually beneficial) as he draws his next card. The user can send and bring equipment from their pocket dimension with magic. A single requip use is capable of swapping/bringing one full set/suit of armour and a weapon pair for another. (i.e. a sword and shield, a bow, two claws, a sword and a handgun, etc.) Ranks [/tab] [tab=Trick Cards] Rank: - 1 Type: Offensive Range: 10 Meters Cooldown: 2 posts Effect: Ansen throws his cards, at a certain range he is able to change their fate and completely change their direction while, at higher ranks, resetting their throwing range from the spot direction changed. This can only be done to 1 card per use Ansen can only change it’s direction once. Every change in direction halves the distance and speed at which the card travels. As the user becomes more proficient they'll be able to use the ability on more cards at a time and change direction more than once. [/tab] [tab=Dirty Rotten Cheat] Rank: - 1 Type: Offensive Range: 5 Meters Cooldown: 3 Posts Effect: Ansen bends the fate essence to his will, allowing him to jump through the fate to one of his cards. Essentially he is instantaneously reallocated through the fate essence to the exact spot of the designated card and is then able throw that card in the same post. The card must be within his line of sight to use it as a guide and it must still be moving, once it’s come to a rest it’s fate cannot be altered. The speed cap on this technique is 6 and like it’s range can improve with rank. Must always teleport to a playing card or marked item [/tab] [/tabs]
Sources Sources Skills & Disciplines [tabs] [tab=Ambidextrous] An important trait, Ansen is more than capable of switching hitting, or in more proper terms either hand can act as a dominant. This is quite beneficial as it allows him to never have a natural weak point simply because one hand doesn’t work as well as the other. He has honed this trait over the course of his life so there is no difference between actions he can take with his left and right hands. [/tab] [tab=Everyone's Got a Tell] Reading people is a gambling man’s secret weapon, with just a few hands he is able to find a tell in his opponent and exploit it. For Ansen this applies to more than just a friendly game of cards. He’s trained his mind to pick up on slight involuntary movements people make so that he can factor it into his own decision making during interactions. [/tab] [tab=Firearm Proficiency] While he couldn’t hit a dime at five hundred meters Ansen has a solid understanding of how firearms work. He has studied their mechanisms, construction, and their specific limitations. It’s safe to say you could put a foreign weapon in his hand and he’d be able to load and unload it and line the dangerous end up with his target. [/tab] [tab=Throwing Cards] Not everyone is capable of throwing a card, few make it their most finely tuned skill. Ansen is capable of throwing cards at a master level, something that includes far more than simply throwing them in a straight line. The way the cards cut through the air is important to note and understand, once you do it’s a simple task to throw cards in an arc or have them rise or lower as they fly through the air. [/tab] [tab=Pickpocket, Lockpick, and Burglar] Living the life of a street urchin taught Ansen a particularly useful set of skills, primarily how to take what wasn’t his. He can make his way through simple locks, gently empty the pockets of a nearby passerby and, while a bit rusty, enter a location and take what he needs before anyone even knew he was there. These skills may not be above board, but then again is there anything Ansen does that is? [/tab] [tab=Dirty Gambling] Being a great gambler still leaves you at the mercy of lady fate, with one bad hand she can take everything from you. Anister isn’t one to let her play him so he has mastered the art of cheating at nearly every casino game possible, and those he can’t cheat he simply just doesn’t play. Only a fool would try him at a game of cards. [/tab] [/tabs] Weaponry/Equipment The Decks [tabs] [tab=Faceless Black Card Deck] Deck Appearance Class: D-Rank Description: Ansens weaponized cards are made of a lightweight metal with razor sharp edges. Because the cards have been made out of a different material the weight is slightly different; now a solid 2.2 g per card. Because of the light metal these cards are made out of they are ineffective against armor, however their slim size does give them the advantage of being able to fit into small places if the user’s throwing skill is trained enough to hit the small targets. This is a deck of cards colored completely black with a reflective paint making up the numbers and designs. The backside of these cards has a checkered pattern drawn in the same reflecting ink. These cards are a standard size of 89 cm long and 64 cm wide. It is currently without it’s face cards and only consists of card numbers 2-10 in Spades making a total of Nine cards. Effect/Function: These cards function as the base point for Ansen’s magic as well as common throwing weapons. [/tab] [tab=Faceless Skull and Bones Deck] Deck Appearance Class: D-Rank Description: Ansens weaponized cards are made of a lightweight metal with razor sharp edges. The skull and bones deck has an elaborate decoration fitting its name on the back side of each card. The numbers and designs are all scratched in as if it was made by someone who didn’t have the means to afford to print both sides. These cards are a standard size of 89 cm long and 64 cm wide. It is currently without it’s face cards and only consists of card numbers 2-10 in Hearts making a total of Nine cards. Effect/Function: These cards function as the base point for Ansen’s magic as well as common throwing weapons. [/tab] [tab=Faceless Casino Deck] Deck Appearance Class: D-Rank Description: Ansens weaponized cards are made of a lightweight metal with razor sharp edges. The casino Deck is the most elaborate of the four decks. It is printed in red and black inks with fancy cursive loops and designs as if it was commissioned by a high class casino. The back of each card is black with a lifted gold ink striping it diagonally in both ways to create a diamond pattern. These cards are slightly thinner than the others being 89 cm in length and 57 cm in width. It is currently without it’s face cards and only consists of card numbers 2-10 in Diamonds making a total of Nine cards. Effect/Function: These cards function as the base point for Ansen’s magic as well as common throwing weapons. [/tab] [tab=Faceless Wooden Deck] Deck Appearance Class: D-Rank Description: Ansens weaponized cards are made of a lightweight metal with razor sharp edges. Because of the light metal these cards are made out of they are ineffective against armor, however their slim size does give them the advantage of being able to fit into small places if the user’s throwing skill is trained enough to hit the small targets. This wooden deck is a bit different than the others as it is styled to look like they were made out of wood. The backside of these cards is decorated with two old style pistol’s set burnt in the center of a wooden backdrop. The front of these cards retains the wood look and has a similar burnt in design to the numbers and images. These cards are a standard size of 89 cm long and 64 cm wide. It is currently without it’s face cards and only consists of card numbers 2-10 in Clubs making a total of Nine cards. Effect/Function: These cards function as the base point for Ansen’s magic as well as common throwing weapons. [/tab] [/tabs] The Tools [tabs] [tab=Two of Clubs Hand Cannon] Item Appearance Class:D-Rank Description: A 5 pound, long barreled hand cannon that carries a two slug capacity. The weapon itself is made of a fairly durable metal that is colored brown. The gun loads by flipping the chamber forward similarly to a shotgun and fires a single cartridge at a time. Because of the size of the slug fired this doesn’t quite have the normal range of a small weapon and instead only fires a max of 18 Meters before losing bullet velocity. This weapon has a Two of Clubs carved into the handle so it will fit in and out of the pocket dimension. Effect/Function: Acts as a shorter range, small weapon hand cannon of high caliber. The steel barrel is thick enough to deflect D-Rank or lower bladed strikes. [/tab] [tab=Two of Spades Hand Cannon] Item Appearance Class:D-Rank Description: A 5 pound, long barreled hand cannon that carries a two slug capacity. The steel barrel is thick enough to deflect D-Rank or lower bladed strikes. [/tab] [tab=Joker Wild Boot Knife] Item Appearance Class:D-Rank Description: A spring loaded knife fit into the base of the right shoe. The blade is not durable enough to punch through ore based armors or hardened leathers, but can punch through lighter grade armors. The blade is triggered by a small switch above the heel and can be removed by applying enough downward pressure on it once it is extended. The blade can be retracted without needing to be removed by simply hitting the switch and holding it for 2 seconds. Effect/Function: A simple, spring loaded blade placed in the bottom of the shoe. [/tab] [tab=Card Arm Launcher] Item Appearance Class:D-Class Description: A spring loaded card arm that fits under the wearers sleeve, most commonly used to help a person cheat in a game of cards. This one has been modified so that it can be used to launch the weaponized cards it holds at twice the range they could otherwise be thrown. Can only hold 4 cards at a time. Effect/Function: Launches loaded weaponized cards up to 25 meters, can also be used to simply cheat at card games. [/tab] [tab=Hand Cannon Slugs] Item Appearance Class:D-Rank Description: Large caliber rounds for the two Hand Cannon’s Ansen uses. Each round has a small card symbol and number carved into the tip so that they can be stored in the pocket dimension. Effect/Function: D-Class Ammunition [/tab] [tab=Lucky Seven of Spades Throwing Knives] Item Appearance Class:D-Class Description: Thin throwing blades that weigh roughly 68 grams and are 25cm in length. The knives have a loop connecting the blade and the thin handle that ends with yet another small loop. The are not heavy enough to punch through most ore based armors or hardened leather, however they do well against lighter cloth based protection. Each blade has a card symbol and number carved into its handle so it can be stored in the pocket dimension. Effect/Function: Twelve simple throwing knives that Ansen keeps stored in the essence. Appearance [tabs] [tab=Physical Description] Standing at a solid six one and weighing in at one hundred and eighty two pounds, Ansen is a well built and athletic young man. While he appears relatively thin a closer look will reveal that his lack of body fat has given way to lean, thin muscle more common for endurance athletes. His major muscle groups from his calves up to the trapezius are all well toned, as he is a bit self-absorbed he takes great pride in his own physique. Due to his long travels around the world his skin is a bit more beat up and is almost permanently tanned into a rich olive with only his more commonly clothed areas being a bit on the pale side. One of his most notable features is the scarring on both of his hands. While most of it is confined to the fingertips and insides of the fingers there are scars that line the palms and webbings. This is from years of practicing to hold the razor sharp weaponized cards that he uses in his magic. The scarring is easily noticeable at first glance and has left him with a rather rough feeling touch, albeit never a more gentle one. Ansen’s face is best described as masculinely defiant. While he still retains some of those boyish looks in his cheeks for the most part his face has grown more rigid and well defined. His jaw, while not being overbearing, is angular and well defined while his cheekbones are high enough now to have taken most of the baby fat out of his face. His eyes are a boring brown that bring nothing but a bit of dreariness to his otherwise handsomeness. His hair is likely the point of most note, he has dark hair that is really just a mess nearly all the time. While he does style it with a bit of a spike most of the time it is the product of him simply rolling out of bed and letting it do whatever it does. [/tab] [tab=Clothing] The black satin jacket with the orange liner is the first thing you are going to notice about Ansen’s general outfit. He wears this jacket for two reasons, first is he thinks it’s fairly stylish and actually owns about twelve of them, and second because it hides the other most notable thing he wears all the time, his card arm. The card arm is a small spring loaded device Ansen wears on his right arm that is designed to help him cheat at cards. Due to it’s need to be a bit bulky the arms of the jacket are perfect for keeping it hidden. Outside of the jacket and the card arm he is far more loosely attached to what he wears. More often than not he pairs the jacket with a white t-shirt and a pair of dark jeans, however he own’s plenty of blue jeans. The only restrictions there are to his outfit is that the only sleeves he can wear are short because he needs the room under the jacket for his tool. He pairs whatever he is wearing for pants with a well made pair of leather boots, the right boot having a blade attached to the bottom of it and a trigger built into the heel. The leather is a dull black as not to draw attention to the fact that they are more expensive than the rest of his outfit combined on a regular basis. He wears a belt to keep his pants secure due to his lean frame not offering much girth for them to cling to, the belt however is unimportant. On his right hip he keeps a small box attached to his belt that he stores cards in, while it’s not bulky it does stick out a bit given its simple awkwardness. [/tab] [tab=Accessories] Ansen keeps an Ace of Spades hung around his neck. The card is a bit smaller than normal cards only being about 67 cm long and 42 cm wide. The card is from a child’s deck he was given by a lost friend, it’s likely the one possession he is truly defensive about. Other than that he keeps the insignia ring of his father around the same cord he keeps the Ace of Spades. The ring is a heavyset gold with an elephant emblem pressed deep into the rings face. [/tab] [tab=Extra] Ansen keeps a spring loaded card arm under the sleeve of his jacket on the right side. For more information on it see the equipment section. [/tab][/tabs] Personality Calling what Ansen has trust issues would be a blatant misunderstanding of who he is, the reality is that he trust people to be exactly what they are, greedy and selfish. It’s the embracing of this concept that is the foundation for who he actually is, only with this acceptance is he capable of doing the things that he does. He spends most of his time stealing from anyone dumb enough to play his game; it’s not malicious and for the most part it’s not even for the money, but the thrill of being better at being greedy and selfish than the other person. See in his mind survival is tied to the very base need to take and hoard for oneself; that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have compassion after all, he did grow up an orphan, it just pushes him to be the last man standing at any cost. See he realized as a child that there wasn’t enough for to go around for everyone to be happy, so he is going to get his and if you don’t like it then maybe he’ll take from you to. So now that we know he uses his greed and selfishness to keep himself alive, how does that lead him to act? Well honestly accepting people for their worst parts is more of a blessing than it is a curse. He doesn’t expect anyone to be more than they are and that makes him incredibly easy to get along with and talk to, but it also means that he’s always protecting number one, himself, and so his social circle stays pretty small. Some of the more negative holdovers from his childhood are a nasty penchant to feel like he has to prove he doesn’t need anyone’s help. Part of that stems from abandonment issues and some of it is simply the remnants of that ten year old kid trying to live up to an impossible dream, either way he tempers it with an absurd value for his own life, after all how can he take it all if he’s dead? But how does he view death then? Well he accepts it by acknowledging that when fate says it’s your time she simply takes you, this isn’t a shift to apathy towards death so much as shifting from feeling loss to giving blame. By blaming death on fate, something he sees as more tangible than figurative, he can come to terms with it and still not enjoy losing anyone who’d gotten close to him. Other than that he generally prescribes to the montra, ’survival of the fittest’. Finally there are a few important things to note about his habits, primarily he loves his vices. Be that vice gambling, and maybe more specifically cheating while gambling, that stems from the belief that he can cheat lady fate or any of the many others he really does love them. He spends a lot of his time enjoying what he deems as a higher state of living, literally. He enjoys his drug use and his more carnal pleasures, but don’t mistake this as an attempt to run from bad memories or the pressures of life as so many would. His vices are there to enhance the life he already enjoys. Drug use is not an escape for him but a deeper immersion into a world that perhaps doesn’t play by all the same rules, the rules lady fate lays out for a person. Essentially it’s another effort to control his own reality, to be truly alive and free. History [tabs] [tab=Chapter 1: Never Given a Name] Ansen was born into a rich family but never knew it, he had a mother but never got to meet her, he had a wonderful life built inside a big house with a nice fence surrounding the big yard, but he never got to live it. His mother had decided a few days after he was born that she couldn’t give up her life for her child so she had her father, a man of incredible means at the time, drop him off at an orphanage as far away as possible. She never took the time to give him a name. Her father dropped the infant off in Oshibana at an orphanage run by an old man and woman. It was the old woman who gave him the name Ansen, a name she got from her favorite tale of a heroic knight. The knight, as the tale is told, upheld all the true heroic values such as truth, honesty, and the general chivalric code of old. The knight is said to have traveled across a great, dark forest to save a beautiful princess. She must have thought that the name would give him something to live up to, she would have been very disappointed. He was close growing up to the others in the orphanage, specifically the four who he had grown up considering his real family. Titus, the oldest of them and the unquestioned leader of their little group, Violet, Andy, and of course Poe. They called him Po because he’d arrived and refused to speak; no one knew what his real name was or if he was even actually an orphan or just a runaway. Ansen was four by the time they took him under their wing, they taught him how to be a real orphan, how to pickpocket, how to brawl, how to break into those small windows that lifted from one end without making any sound. It wasn’t that he was naturally good at being a child criminal, it was that he had to be good at it. The orphanage had begun exploding in number only two years after Ansen got there, by the time he was seven there wasn’t enough to go around. Titus was going to keep them fed though; Ansen believed it and had to help him in any way he could. So survival forced him to learn to be a thief and when you don’t have a choice you are capable of doing things others might call impossible. Over the next four years Titus pushed them more and more. For as long as Ansen had known him he had been a hot head who solved problems by swinging his fists, but he was wearing the weight of tying to provide for nearly a dozen children. It didn’t help that the old man who helped run the orphanage had fallen ill; so when Titus gathered his family together Ansen was right there, ready to do whatever he needed to. Ansen had never not known what it was like to be an orphan. From the earliest memories he had he just was, sure he understood that meant he’d been abandoned but he couldn’t understand what that meant. He had Titus, Violet, Andy, and even if Poe didn’t talk he was there too, so how was he supposed to react when he lost them? Titus had pushed them to break into the back of some bar for what he called his retirement fund. They did, only Titus forgot to tell them that the bar was owned by some really bad men and the Jewels they stole were their monthly take. Looking back on it Ansen could easily call it a bad bet, all their cards were on the table and they were holding a two six straight, not a winning hand. They were caught while trying to get the money out, Titus held them off with some weird magic he’d never used before. It was so pretty the way he threw around bright green sparks; the last words he ever said to them were take the money and go. They didn’t hold onto it for long, the gang came and ransacked the orphanage to get their money back. When the old woman didn’t give up the four who had it they burned the place to the ground with the bedridden old man still in it. Ansen didn’t even like the old guy, but how could they do that? They knew they couldn’t go back to the orphanage anymore, they had to leave Oshibana Town. So they left, but Ansen wasn’t the same little kid after that. Somewhere along the line it became clear he had a gift for cards, a fact everyone found incredibly shocking as he swindled them out of their hard earned money. By the time he was fourteen he could play poker with the best of them, or well he could cheat at poker with the best of them. Poe had left them but as usual hadn’t said anything, Violet and Andy were nearly eighteen and had plans to buy a house and start a family together. Ansen didn’t know why they’d do something like that but he kept his mouth shut and kept playing cards. Something had changed, they were being followed now. Ansen didn’t know if it was a bad gambling debt or what but a man had begun to follow the trio from town to town and just lurk a ways behind them. They figured out why once they reached the Fioran Capitol. [/tab] [tab=Chapter 2: My Father's Fold] The thing you have to keep in mind is that when you play a game with a gambler they have to have something to lose otherwise, isn’t any outcome a win? After they lost Titus something changed for Ansen, he had lost something and he didn’t have enough to be able to afford to lose more. So he began to play with the concept of magic when the others weren’t watching, by fourteen he still hadn’t made much progress. Then a man started to stalk them and in the royal city he made his move. He took Violet and Andy; the last two people Ansen had. He revealed that he was Ansen’s father, Victor Mason. He was a mage of some renown in service to the crown. How he found his child after being so willing to abandon him was a miracle to Ansen, but he wanted nothing to do with him. Victor didn’t play fair though, he told Ansen that as long as he went with him that he’d let his friends avoid prison. He didn’t have a choice. He said his goodbye’s to Violet and Andy and left with his father. He wanted to stab the old man in the ribs every time he saw him but resisted the urge, somewhere inside of him he was almost glad to be wanted for a change. His father began immediately trying to break him of his bad habits to no avail. What he did manage to do however was teach him magic. That barrier that Ansen had pushed against every time he wanted to use magic finally shattered and he was finally able to cast, albeit somewhat poorly. His father didn’t oversee his training himself and instead relied on his other understudies to teach him the finer points of combat and magic. He was going to make his son something he could be proud of, he always thought that if he could just break that gambling habit he had developed that maybe he could even fit into high society. To prod the old man’s ire Ansen made sure to organize secret games whenever he could, although after losing so many times in a row many of the others stopped showing up. Before long Ansen had learned to use blades, guns, and was even progressing in his own unruly brand of magic. It wasn’t a home he wanted, but it was the home he had and for years he mastered his craft there. His old man just couldn’t keep up appearances though. The old man had been playing a game of his own and it was starting to fall down around him. See Ansen had figured out shortly after arriving in Victor Mason’s little training center that the old man was up to no good, the kind of no good that tended to end with important people being very, very dead afterwards. Once he realized that figuring out who it was that he was after was a simple task of following him and his loyalists around the city. Maybe Victor really had wanted to reunite with his lost son, maybe he just thought so much of himself that he figured his gene pool had to have produced a powerful mage, or maybe Ansen had never actually been his son after all and he just said what he needed to to get another weapon in the arsenal. Either way he seriously misjudged the kid. See when you play a dangerous game you need to know where all the cards are; and then you needed to make sure that you’re holding nothing but aces at the end. Victor Mason was a power hungry ass who thought so much of himself that he didn’t think he needed to see what the dice came up before he reached into the pot, and that got him in the long run. Ansen sent a letter to Victors target to warn him of the imminent attack, and then he just sat back and watched as the deed went down in the courtyard. When Victor Mason and his ‘weapons’ showed up to kill a supposed unsuspecting high level official in the hopes of taking his place he got was a face full of magic and the realization that he’d gone all in with a two pair. Ansen was there to watch it; he looked directly into the eyes of the man that called himself his father before they put him to death. Nothing broke inside the young man, no ghosts haunted his dreams, and the only regret he felt was that he hadn’t told Victor how much he hated him before they killed him. He was free again, and it always helped that the gracious benefactor of his warning had given him a sizeable reward to start his travels with. [/tab] [tab=Chapter 3: Pills and Other Vices] Ansen was alone for the first time in his life. He’d spent most of it running through the streets of Oshibana town with the gang and then trapped behind the walls of the capital city; he needed to be free. He started by heading west, adding to his riches by swindling the rich and poor alike. If there was anything he had learned it was that everyone had something to take and he was determined to take it all. Before long he had picked up a bad smoking habit, nothing so mundane and simple as cigarettes, no Ansen had found a preference for a small herb native to Snap Dragon Creek as well as his openness to dabble in other more hallucinogenic substances. He was finally experiencing the pleasures the world had to offer and he wasn’t about to stop. His next stop was Trillium and while it hadn’t yet become the haven for debauchery it eventually would there was still plenty for him to get into. Days went by while he was there, but for him time seemed to stand still as he smoked and injected his winnings away. He stopped on occasion to sindle some poor drunk bastard who had found his way into the brothel with a large stash of jewels. Had the Mistress not insisted that he leave after a week of taking money from other customers it may have gone on forever. He really liked Trillium. He was in the deep south after that for a private card game; he hadn’t been invited at the time but once again it seemed fate found a way to put him at that table. The game itself was poker; a game Ansen could have probably won simply playing fair, but where was the fun in playing if you didn’t cheat? He had to leave the desert in a hurry once he let it slip during a drunken stupor that he had swindled them out of all their money. He left the desert a hunted man, also a much richer man. He didn’t enjoy the pleasures of this world in the way he did because he was running from something, he did it because he was finding it, but even that had it’s expiration date. He had just lain a hand with two ace of spades, how did he make that mistake? Undoubtedly it was due to his near endless state of inebriation. After he dispatched his unhappy competition he had an epiphany, well perhaps that was the wrong way to describe it. He’d traveled so much of the world, he’d experienced so much pleasure and in so many ways. Three years of this had begun to take it’s toll, and there was something drawing him. He’d learned a long time ago that he had to make his own fate, but this once he was going to follow the pull home. [/tab] [tab=Chapter 4: Lesher] Oshibana town wasn’t too different from the way he had left it, dirty in places you couldn’t see from the tracks and clean where you could. The place was as phony as every poor soul who lived there. Ansen wasn’t a brave enough man to visit the new orphanage the old woman had put up, but he did visit the old man’s grave. He had liked to think he was living his life without a single regret up to that moment, but standing over that grave he knew that he had two things he couldn’t ever forget. He had watched his best friend, a guy he would have called his brother, gave himself up to build a better future for him. He ran when he heard the cracking of the flames as they devoured the old orphanage with the old man inside. He knew that the two of them had just been dealt a bad hand, when it was your time to fold it was your time to fold, but he didn’t care. He’d never late fate chose for him, he’d thumbed his nose at it and made life his own. Standing over that grave was a reminder of what happened when he let fate deal. That’s when he took the name Lesher. It was the old man’s last name and if he was ever going to call anyone family it was the people who had been in that orphanage, but also, he never wanted to forget that fate was cruel and he had to force that wench to play by his rules. He didn’t leave Oshibana right away, first he went to the old stash house that the gang who burned the orphanage down had used. They had left it already and moved up in the world. Ansen found the new one and managed to get them to wager their weekly protection collection on a simple game of blackjack. Ansen was admittedly a little high at the time, but the cards flipped his way with a bit of light coaxing. They were less than pleased to part with their collection so Ansen was forced to do some… persuading. He set the stash house on fire when he was done, leaving the unconscious men inside. He left the bag of jewels on the front steps of the new orphanage but made it a point not to be seen. He would check in once in awhile after that; he really hated that damn town though.
