The dark clouds that strayed high above the sky set an ominous ambience over Poinsettia as if to reflect the unfavorable situation Vento had found himself in due to the incompetence of his superiors. However, despite gloomy atmosphere which seemed to portend an ill omen, the daily hustle of the city’s marketplace went on without much of a care save for the occasional remark about how the sky failed to capture the essence of Poinsettia as a city of dreams. Indeed it was such a place, where people from all around Fiore could easily get lost in the overabundance of men and women who looked like they came from fairy tales; all gorgeous and handsome without quarrel. Most of them had the tattoo of a winged horse etched somewhere on their body – a constant reminder of Vento’s current predicament.

It did not take a young man of the raven-haired teenager’s caliber to know for a fact that hiring even just one member of the Blue Pegasus guild was something that needed a pretty penny for, yet something which Neo Cortex, Vento’s current employer, utterly failed to provide for. It was a clear sign of how much his superiors thought of him as disposable and unimportant; just leaving the young man to accomplish a task without as much as backing him with some extra funds for these kinds of miscellaneous expenses. Vento was likewise hesitant on incurring any obligation using his own salary as payment, for if he did, he would be working for less and at a disadvantage.

“For men and women of science, they sure do have little knowledge on common sense,” mumbled the scholar bitterly while he trod through the pristine cobblestone path in and around the market looking for any suitable down-on-his-luck adventurer who would be willing to trade services for a bit of coin; those types whom he knew would have rather taken on the job of escorting forge supplies, patrolling the borders, and guard duty, but prevented by some force beyond their control. Preferably he wanted to have someone who acted as an independent security contractor who has had a fair share of protecting VIPs and knew how to handle things when they would get messy at one point or the other. Then again, he would be lucky if he would find even just one person who would be willing to work for 'chump change'.

For every glance he took, Mens Nexus took in as much data on the people around him as possible and categorized them into magic-users and non-magic users. From there, Vento would choose the most suitable one based on their projected use as the young man saw it; so far, however, there was nothing of use and nobody he wanted to hire. The people were mostly apathetic to his stares, thankfully, since his crimson eyes gave off a murderous vibe for every single time he examined his subjects. Nevertheless, with such a mission at hand, the scholar wanted to exert as much effort as he can to find an assistant as soon as he could, damn the consequences.

But first, he needed to refresh his reserves and grab a bite to eat.

“What a waste of energy,” he muttered loud enough so that the people in his immediate vicinity could hear, especially the merchant of foodstuffs from whom he had just purchased an ice-cold glass of butterbeer and vegetarian sandwich from. “Out of all these people who walk around all day, you would think that at least one of them would have decent magical ability.”

The merchant raised an eyebrow. “You sound like you have seen a lot to speak like that. Are you from a guild by any chance?”

Vento shook his head. “No, just a field researcher for a think tank by the name of Neo Cortex. I doubt people here have heard of it.”

The merchant nodded in agreement. “Neo Cortex…? Yeah, you are right; I have not heard of it.”

Of course not; that is always the case with everyone, thought Vento with a grin before changing the tone of his voice from there. “Well, it is not a problem if you have not; I just wanted to try since it seems that everyone I have met has no idea who or what they are. I apologize for making baseless conversation.”

With a snort, the raven-haired scholar left his stand and proceeded to walk through the market with drink and food in hand. He did not want to waste time searching. After all, time was a very precious commodity for him and one he just could not afford to waste any further.

"Oi get back here!" a middle-aged lady with evident signs of aging on her head full of black locks stepped out of a concrete three-story building waving her hand furiously at a person who was five steps ahead of her. The said person was clad in a fluffy gray jacket, its hood covering the person's head so as to hide the systemically pinned beige blond hair to make it appear it was shorter. Tsuna turned to the old lady with irritation, narrowing her eyes upon hearing what the former yelled.

"Your payment is 1000 Jewels short!"

Wow, the nerve of this hag. The cross-dresser stayed in her inn, and it was by far the worst experience she had for a few months she had been aimlessly wandering around Fiore. The room was not conducive for resting as it did only bore a single window that was barely a feet away from the wall of the next establishment. There was no ventilation. The whole room was dusty and smelled moldy. Tsuna swore there were bed mites on the narrow bed provided. The comfort room was the most unappealing and unhygienic place she had seen --- and this .... woman .... was telling her to pay 5000 Jewels?!

Tsuna was losing her temper as the old woman's voice pierced through the noisy crowd of Poinsettia. Trying to keep her calm, she pulled her arm and had her finger stuck in her ear and rotated it there --- just like how her brother would do whenever he was irritated.

"You know madam," Tsuna's low, modulated voice tried to stop the hysterical one, "you're lucky that I am still generous to give you 4000 Jewels. Hell, your room does not even deserve a single one!" The girl stretched her arms afterwards, placing it behind her head covered by the hood and turned her back on her.

The lady turned red in anger, picking up a stone from the street and throwing it at the girl, hitting her head. This prompted her to stop. People within 10 meters of the scene stopped as well to watch what would happen next.

"That's very ungentlemanly of you! Is that how you talk to an old woman, huh young lad?! Didn't your parents teach you manners?!"

Tsuna bit her lip. For someone to tell that Daiki was not gentleman and without manners stirred her blood. She clenched her fists.

"Relax Tsuna...relax. Think what would he do in this situation..."

In the midst of his search for a proper companion to the ruins, Vento’s concentration was interrupted by the garish display of rage from a confrontation which had erupted from a street’s-length away from him. The horrible cacophony of squeals, grunts, and comebacks filled his ears with unsightly noise which was neither productive nor interesting. It was just a little spat about money – a mere one thousand Jewels-worth – and it was getting on nerves, even more so when it escalated when the woman had thrown a rock which hit the other man squarely on the head. The youth cursed under his breath; as stingy as Vento might be, even his miserly disposition was of the opinion that this was a situation where he would gladly shell out a portion of his meager salary to stop.

Without a second thought behind his chosen course of action, Vento leaped out into the open and – with a wonderfully executed feint – purposely allowed himself to trip on the crack of the sidewalk to allow the scholar to douse the anger of the middle-aged proprietress with the contents of Vento’s half-empty glass of butterbeer and at the same time smother her face with his vegetarian sandwich. Laughter erupted from the crowd as the woman, now soaked and dirtied, naturally turned her aggression to Vento himself. He merely took it off in stride and dusted himself off, calm despite the beet-red face of a raving mad-woman before him who seemed just about ready to eat him alive if she could.

The scholar sighed, interrupting the proprietress’ words mid-sentence with an arctic reply. “Look, lady, it is your own fault; you acted like a child throwing a tantrum which caused a crowd to gather along my path. Had they not been there, I would have seen where I was going and I could have avoided tripping, and in effect, avoided wasting my good food over someone as ugly as you,” he said in a blunt tone without a shred of remorse.

Upon hearing the rude comment, the lady’s rage went up to astronomic heights as the woman unconsciously sent a balled fist hit at Vento’s immaculate face. In response, the scholar whipped his head back to avoid the strike, the woman’s sticky hands whistling just inches from his face. In retaliation, and much to the utter shock of those around them, Vento kicked the lady in the gut almost at the same time as he dodged her attack, with the force of the kick being more than enough to send someone of her age reeling and coughing violently in a desperate attempt to gasp for air.

Despite the fact that he probably painted himself as the one at fault with his act, the mage simply brushed himself off, fished a thousand-Jewel bill from his wallet, knelt down, and stuffed the money into the woman’s mouth in a brazen act of humiliation. Vento hissed. “Those who attack must be ready to be attacked as well. Remember that well the next time you try to hit me, you penny-ante piece of garbage,” said the young man with a cold sneer still etched on his face and pat the downed proprietress on the head like a child to mock her.

Having dealt with one problem, Vento now focused his efforts to deal with the other – the man who refused to pay his balance after he had made use of the innkeeper’s wares. It did not matter whether or not it was up to his expectations; the mere fact that he did not want to pay the remainder was a clear breach of his simultaneous obligation with the woman who had provided him with living quarters. Had he been prudent, he would have asked to check the status of the quarters first before undertaking a contract with the innkeeper; his problem was his own undoing, and as such, he was just as much at fault as was the woman.

In a casual fashion as if nothing had ever happened, Vento strode over the man’s side and glared at him with his infamously unsettling gaze he uses whenever he analyzes people for their magical talent. He neither smiled nor laughed, just a blank expression filled with contempt for the one who started it all.

“You are an idiot for not just paying off your debt,” jeered Vento before he sent a head-butt directly aimed for the other’s forehead.

Tsuna dropped her shoulder in defeat knowing very well that she caused the problem she was in, and if her brother would be in her shoes he would just admit the fault and profusely apologize to the inn keeper. It was the right thing to do, as her brother, to her mind, always did the right thing to do. Releasing her clenched fist, the cross-dresser resigned to her fate as she turned to the old lady ready to blurt out an apology and an explanation. However, at the exact moment she did pieces of deconstructed sandwich along with fluid and froth which appeared to be butterbeer flew towards the inn keeper giving her a humiliating shower. It was followed by racket of laughter from the crowd directed towards the woman and the cause of her humiliation. The inn keeper was beet red in anger, spatting words at someone but her voice was drowned by the crowd's. A masculine voice erupted from the noise to which the confused Tsuna turned to see who it was, finding a pale raven-haired man dusting himself off as he spoke.

"Wow, zero to hero real quick..." Tsuna thought to herself as he pointed out the hag's mistakes, further infuriating the woman which prompted her to punch the man. It seemed that the guy was better than that, effortlessly dodging the attack. The next thing he has done made the crowd silent and Tsuna surprised. He kicked the old lady in the gut. Evident it was on her face that pain surged throughout her body as she lurched and struggled for air. He then shoved a thousand jewels on her mouth as he preached about an attacker's readiness to face an attack.

"Wow, zero to hero to jerkbutt real quick."

While she felt the woman deserved what she got and further because the man was generous enough to pay a stranger's debt, Tsuna thought kicking the woman was quite harsh. To shove money on her mouth was too much humiliation as well. It was unpleasant for a man to hit a woman, or so what Daiki thought. How many times did he hear from her brother that he would never touch a woman unless with a compelling rea---- wait, the pale raven-haired heartless guy had a compelling reason. Maybe Daiki would let it slide.

Her eyes of blue and lilac gradient followed and met the man's murderous stare as he strode over her side. Hers did not bear any signs of anger or condemnation. Not even guilt.

“You are an idiot for not just paying off your debt.”

Whoa wait. Tsuna had her reasons, wouldn't he be interested in hearing them out?

The man swung his head to headbutt her, instilling the thought in Tsuna's head that this man was either blood thirsty, hating the world down to his core or had a lot of issues. She was not the fastest person to dodge the headbutt effectively, but it did not mean she could not lessen the blow, or drag him to the same painful pit. The girl dropped her center so that if his head would hit her, her forehead would be bumping against the soft spot of his eyebrow. In that way, Tsuna would not experience any concussion, the pain she would be getting would not be that much and in the same time her attacker would also be in pain. If she was lucky, he would have a bleeding eyebrow. In the same time, with her index and middle finger extended she swung her arm so the two fingers would jab his throat.

Whatever the result of the actions would be, or whatever his counter would be, and whether she would be in terrible pain, a not-so-bad one, or free from any of it, Tsuna would blurt out, "First off, the room's rent was just 3000 Jewels. I asked for a wake up call --- " then she mumbled, "but she didn't wake me up, so I overslept and now I have to pay 5000 Jewels for overstaying." She was about to continue talking when another voice from afar interrupted her.

"Hey, what's all of this commotion about?"

Swiveling her head, three tall muscular men who were shameless enough not to wear any shirt to show the world of their glorious six-and-more pack abs and hard well-toned chests where their marks from Blue Pegasus were inscribed entered the scene.

"Oh shit..."

Seemed like this wasn't Tsuna's lucky day.

Thoughts turned into actions as the initial information Mens Nexus had acquired from the other man’s physical abilities spoke boatloads of his experience, or rather, his lack thereof. His physical attributes were comparable to that of a dying fish and Vento knew that he did not need to exert anything beyond minimal effort to subdue the man who had taken his bait. Truth be told, his head-butt was merely a feint – a test to see if the data Mens Nexus had acquired was correct, for if his findings were to be trusted, then the man’s latent magical ability would surge forth as a means to defend himself. Vento was curious as to what kind of magic he possessed and was willing to risk his life and limb to satiate his desire.

As he had expected, Mens Nexus’ report on his subject’s physical attributes were accurate to the last numerical digit. His joints moved at a snail’s pace while his reaction time was akin to one crawling through the mud when compared to his own. His eyes had already deduced enough information to accurately predict her strikes since they might as well be drawn on a storyboard with how slow they were in his eyes; nevertheless, what set his assessment for the other youth was that he seemingly knew where to strike so as to inflict as much damage as possible, his aim in that span of time an indication of his high degree of accuracy. He had good eyes and a decent amount of magical power – the only conclusion Vento was led to was that he was some kind of Caster-type wizard with ranged magic.

In a split-second before the other man’s fingers struck his throat, the scholar’s swift right hand and honed reflexes caught them before they hit and at the same time stopped his head mere centimeters from the youth’s own with the same blank expression he had before, and a further indication that he had completely ignored the young man’s explanation as to why he owed such a debt. “Too slow; much too slow,” he said more as a validation to his own findings than it was an insult to the other. “Still, you have good eyes on you. I guess that is something to account for,” he said as Vento released his subject’s fingers and retracted his head back to right himself back into a casual stance for further conversation. Before anything however, he needed to deal with the new annoyances in the form of three Blue Pegasus members who had come by to check on the situation.

With a beatific smile that was more than enough to radiate Vento’s seraphic visage, he began to address the newcomers. “I apologize for having caused this ruckus, but I merely tripped and ended up dirtying the elderly innkeeper,” he apologized using a honey-sweet tone almost in perfect mimicry of a typical Blue Pegasus members’ naturally sensual voice quality. “I attempted to tell her that had she exercised maturity and prudence, she would not have been subject to such humiliation, but she instead took my comment in the wrong especially when I told her that she was ugly for her immaturity.”

He continued his explanation, Vento’s blatant honesty mixed with a sugary demeanor creating more of a pillow-talk conversation rather than an inquiry. “She tried to punch me afterward, so I kicked her with just enough force to incapacitate her. She had already show aggression even before, however, when she threw a rock over at that man’s direction. Thus, given the circumstances, I merely acted in self-defense out of fear of what she might be capable of given her volatile personality,” justified Vento then pointed to the other man. “As for my ‘attack’ on this fellow right here, I merely tested if his faculties were still working after suffering that unsightly hit. You never know what a rock to the head can do to you, after all.”

Once he was finished with the critical matters of his explanation, the scholar now had the liberty to lead on with his point and spin the situation around in his favor. He smiled as he continued, charming innocence spewing out from his gesture of goodwill that it would be enough to melt even the coldest of hearts. With this mask, he proceeded to finalize the ‘nobility’ of his deed so that he might have the chance to leave this matter with his reputation intact, if not improved.

“You might think that calling people ‘ugly’ is unfair or even cruel, but beauty does not lie only upon outside appearances, but also, in those matters of the heart. While outer beauty is undeniably important, as you members of Blue Pegasus may know, it is that inner beauty which ultimately comes out as the most valuable of all kinds of beauty.”

Vento turned his gaze back to the woman herself, still on the ground yet gazing at him while he performed his exposition. “That woman who attacked an innocent man over something as trivial as money is nothing short of garbage, for is there nothing more ugly than someone who has not only lost one’s beauty on the outside, but also from within? One who has been consumed by greed is a pathetic sight; I did her a favor by reminding her that she should not sacrifice her self-worth over money. Pain and shame, after all, are the best teachers to force someone to reflect upon their actions.”

After his lengthy speech, the scholar brazenly extended his hands and presented them to the Blue Pegasus members, still retaining his angelic expression. “Of course I will not shirk away from responsibility or punishment if you deem it fit for yourselves that I deserve such a thing for my actions. So here, I present myself to you for judgment, without any hint of doubt in my actions and confident that what I did was – although cruel and unusual – was just.”

Nothing more needed to be said.

"Wow...this guy."

From being someone thirsty for blood, or so what the impression he gave the dumbfounded teen, the man suddenly wore a visage exuding a holier-than-thou aura. To his lips smoothly flowed out words as sweet as honey which concealed a hypnotic potion as he justified his previous actions, persuading the authorities that he was a defender of justice. In each of his sentences, truth and lies were intricately woven that no one would ever notice which was which. The last of his words toyed with everyone's conscience which made sure of the success of this verbose explanation.

If this was his talent it would be hard to trust this person. Those around him would be controlled by the string of words like how puppets were helplessly and unknowingly maneuvered by a puppeteer to achieve his desires, and that was what happened to everyone in the crowd. It was nigh impossible for anyone to disagree with him. None of the bystanders contradicted his words as to them it was what happened, as they heard what indeed happened. Even Tsuna, who felt that the attack was not a mere test considering he did call her an idiot earlier, did not oppose but further bolstered his claim by nonchalantly saying, "He's right."

The three newcomers looked at each other, and then turned again to the one whose arms were extended towards them as if in resignation to his fate. To them, this gesture showed his sincerity and could not be used against him. "Well, if the lady caused trouble I think you did what is just," one of them, who was sporting a blond slicked back hair whilst wearing a slim-fit denim pants said, as his companion who has odd electric green curly hair that matched the color of his spandex shorts went to the inn keeper's side and help her to get up. The other one, a bald man around his late twenties dispersed the crowd with his commanding roar.

"We will not give you any punishment, but you have to join us taking the lady to the hospital and shoulder any medical expenses she needed. After all, you're the one who kicked her."

Aaaah more expenses, great! If the raven-haired suave-talking heartless man decided to go with them and then later on demand the return of the said expenses from her, Tsuna had no idea how she would pay him. She only had 4,050 Jewels with her, 4,000 of which was already in the inn keeper's hand. She had not taken any breakfast yet, and knowing Poinsettia, everything here was expensive, even if she put her poor soul for sale it would not be enough to cover anything. Moreover, the girl, having raised in the Kushinada household where she could have anything she wanted except her parents' love and attention, she was poor in monetary management or cash flow. Why didn't Daiki teach her this when he was alive?

As soon as Tsuna heard of this, the teen took a swift 180-degree turn. With mechanical steps the cross-dresser quietly attempted to escape. The bald man, who just finished his task took note of this and went beside her, wrapping his arm around her padded shoulder. "You'll also go with us, young man."

Tsuna let out a tensed chuckle, "aye aye Captain." She was steered beside the pale man's position. He took his arm off Tsuna and placed his hands on each of the two's shoulders --- one on her and one on his --- as he made them start walking. The man with electric green hair was in front of them, who now carried the inn keeper who obviously was pretending to be badly hurt. Behind them was the blonde Blue Pegasus member, making sure that an eye from the back would be looking at them in case one of them ---- probably Tsuna ---- attempted to escape.

"What are your names, sirs, and what are you doing here in Poinsettia?" the bald one asked the two while they trekked the cobbled path towards the hospital.

Vento nodded without hesitation knowing full well that this was the likeliest outcome considering the situation at hand. Nevertheless, he was still slightly disappointed as he would have wanted to get away scot-free so that he could continue his examination upon the other man and his possible use in his exploration of the Genie’s Lamp. Regardless of how things turned out, however, the young man was ultimately happy that this was the extent of the burden that the members of Blue Pegasus would impose upon him considering his recent actions which might have merited a harsher punishment had he not made the attempt to tug at their heart strings.

“Of course, it is but the right thing to do, yes?” replied the scholar; yet another fine performance to inure himself into the good graces of the three self-appointed peacemakers for that point in time. Keeping up a façade such as this was easy enough though, and if he would play his cards just right, Vento thought that he could further his own agendas and kill several birds with one stone. The serpent within him stirred to life and its venomous fangs were bared, ready to strike at the earliest opportunity.

Without wasting any time, the three mages put into action their plan of escorting the ‘injured’ old lady towards the hospital along with Vento himself and the stranger in tow in an effort to see to it that the scholar would honor his words. The men probably did not see anything beyond his kind-hearted façade and had no reason to suspect anything malicious from him since he had nothing to gain – presumably, at the very least – by acting amicably and with respect, but any person would normally not take a stranger’s words lightly after only meeting them once. No matter how saintly the person might be, every person would always have that small shred of doubt; after all, it was simply human nature to distrust others unless given a reason to do otherwise.

As the group continued to walk almost single-file towards their destination, the large bald-headed man saw it fit to start a conversation and asked them for their names and the reason for their visit to Poinsettia. Vento quickly took the initiative to introduce himself first and fished out a business card from his back pocket and gave it to the muscled inquirer along with a verbal introduction as an unspoken act of good faith to show that he was, indeed, the person he claims himself to be as was written in the one-by three-inch card he had presented with the symbol of Neo Cortex – a brain fashioned to resemble tree with the brain itself as the leaves and branches while the brain stem was made to look like the trunk and the roots – watermarked in the background.

“The name is Vento Aureo, a research assistant and field researcher working for the independent research and development organization, Neo Cortex. I doubt you have heard of it, but we are the ones who work towards the advancement of magical theory and arcane sciences for the betterment of all. Specifically, we focus on the practical applications of magic to solve major issues such as resource management, overpopulation, and the improvement of life in general.”

The young man continued. “As for the reason why I am here in Poinsettia, it is to investigate the ruins known as the Genie’s Lamp and uncover its secrets since my superiors seem convinced that it might have something that could be used to further aid our research projects. I doubt multi-million-Jewel lacryma would be of any use for the advancement of arcane science and magical theory; the way I see it, they just want to get rich quick and sent me under the guise of a ‘research expedition’. Then again, nobody has ever gotten to the end, so I cannot say for sure if there is any valuable treasure there or not. I personally am just here for the sake of knowledge and nothing else. I could not care less about the money more than the possibility of obtaining ancient teachings thought lost to time.”

He mentally envisioned a smirk form on his lips; Vento had planted the idea of ‘riches’ in the conversation and now it was up to those present to interpret it in the way they wanted to. Of course he was in no way lying since he simply shared some information he already had of the ruins; how they took the new knowledge they were ‘conveniently’ blessed with was their own business, not his. All he had to do now was to wait for the seed to bear fruit while they continued their trek towards whatever nearby hospital there was.

The young lady who was donning a man's outfit kept her silence as her heels made a distinct clank against the cobbled path. As her mind wandered to the what-could-have-been's and her stomach in protest to the lack of meal, she wished for no more interactions since in that way she could still control her mouth and not further put herself in trouble. Had she not made a comeback to the woman's demand earlier and instead apologized, none of these would happen anyway. However having no interactions with the people around her was just a wishful thinking as the bald muscled man decided to engage them into a conversation by asking them of their names and reasons for being in this town. Great.

Without any hesitations, the pale obsidian-haired man introduced himself first with a small thin card he gave the man between them. The latter took his hand off Tsuna's shoulder to receive it, his emerald orbs scanning the inscriptions on it as the former who claimed to be named Vento Aureo started his speech. Knitted brows could be seen on each of the men's faces upon hearing the name of the group he was affiliated with, Neo Cortex. Tsuna on the other hand exhibited the faintest expression of interest, but her ears were on the speaker. The bald man passed the card to the muscled man behind him then placed his hand back on the lady's padded shoulder.

"Neo Cortex? Yep, never heard."

These expressions from the men from Blue Pegasus changed to deep interest upon hearing that he was to investigate the ruins called Genie's Lamp, a place they have not heard before, which kept a multi-million-Jewel worth of lacryma. Selfish desires started to run across their thoughts, but obviously fighting back the urge the time Vento finished his talk.

"Haven't heard of Genie's Lamp before," the green-haired man chimed in, "where is it located? You're going to venture it alone? Maybe we can..."

"Hush Vert," the blonde haired man on the back roared, "even if we want to, have you forgotten we should travel down to Snap-Dragon Creek for a mission?"

"Aw..." The man in spandex felt disappointed, so was the bald man who quietly coveted for the said fortune.

A few seconds of silence followed. The lady who was in disguise believed they have forgotten about her introductions, which was totally fine with her, but only for the man in between her and Vento turned to her and asked her name and reasons for being in Poinsettia.

With a grunt, she replied, "Daiki Kushinada." The name was a lie.

"Kushinada? Are you in any way related to the Kushinadas of Crocus? My wife used to work in their household," the man in front of them who was carrying the old hag spoke, to which he was corrected by his two companions. "Ex-wife! When will you get over with it?"

"That's impossible," the inn keeper joined the conversation, "How come a man from such rich family can't even pay a meager thousand Jewels?"

Tsuna kept herself mum, her eyes strayed away from meeting anyone's gaze until it find a safe refuge on the steps she was taking while the three men started to argue about Vert's ex-wife.

As soon as the innkeeper let loose her scathing words, Vento was quick to reply due to a burning emotion such a statement had ignited within him. “Did you know? A baby bird grows the same feathers as its parents while still in their nest. It can already fly as soon as it does, there is no question; however, those feathers were still the ones it had received from its parents,” the young man explained calmly, his eyes glinting with deep resolve as if the words were directed at him rather than the man who introduced himself as ‘Daiki Kushinada’.

Vento continued his explanation. “However, one by one, it sheds out all its feathers and replaces it with new ones that it had obtained from flying by itself as it is battered by the wind until, finally, it acquires its own feathers with which it can fly on its own,” he said and passed a quick glance at Daiki’s general direction before returning his gaze to the front.

“There are people, privileged as they may be, who desire freedom to live as they please above all else; to work hard towards their own goals, to spend their hard-earned money on things they have always wanted, and to live a life they have molded with their own two hands – things which they may have never been able to do had they relied on their parents for support. Sure it might have been a comfortable life, but in the end, it is a life that is built upon the achievements of your parents, not your own.”

The scholar’s tone changed and now directed the query back at the woman, and in extension, the other three Blue Pegasus members walking with them. “I am sure that you have all had the same experience, the inexplicable joy of working for a reward you know you have earned for yourself and not something that was just given to you. You feel that joy because you know that you deserve that reward because you did your best and succeeded. That is your achievement; that is something nobody can take away no matter how hard they tried. In that way, it makes you superior than those who ride on the coattails of others; and that is something money can never buy.”

Just as he finished another one of his long-winded speeches, Vento quickly reverted back to his previous persona and asked for permission to buy everyone some snacks since it was apparent that at least one of them had yet to have something to eat. Thus, without straying too far from the group, the scholar went to the nearest food merchant and bought six random beverages and foodstuffs which he did not even bother to check since he was in a hurry. Once he had paid off the man for his wares, Vento returned to the group, fished out his share from the plastic bag where the merchant had placed his goods and passed it on to Daiki. He smiled. “Do not be shy, I will not charge you for anything for this. My treat,” he said, with his words as bright and cheerful as the rays of sunlight on a Saturday morning.

After he passed the plastic bag to Daiki, Vento removed the tinfoil wrapper which contained a large burger while he continued to walk. He took a bite of the viand and smirked in delight as the taste of the meat, vegetables, and sauce held within the buns coalesced inside his mouth and mixed together; and thereafter quickly opened a can of soda and gulped down the contents greedily. Nobody can blame him though since the ‘accident’ caused him to spill what everyone could presume as his lunch meal all over the innkeeper. Besides, the look of refreshment etched on Vento’s visage was like that of a child who had his first taste of something wonderful.

“Poinsettia’s street cuisine is rather great, is it not?” Vento asked in rhetoric anticipating that the members of Blue Pegasus would decline his offer of food since they may or may not be as health conscious as those who are part of their guild. “Given the degree of food you can enjoy at any time, it is a wonder how you guys at Blue Pegasus can still retain your diets and keep fit despite these temptations. Then again, too much healthy food would cause an imbalance in your appetite, so it is actually recommended that even fit guys like you have a cheat day every once in a while. I should know; I am from Neo Cortex, after all.”

Once done, he then took another bite.

Such strong words had elegantly flowed out of the researcher's lips that everyone, including Tsuna, whose eyes lacked glow hearing the comment earlier, turned to his direction as he scholarly chastised the inn keeper, using an avian family as analogy. True that there were indeed people who wanted to be known apart from their parents, to be able to fly on their own to reach their dreams without the aid, influence or wealth from their parents, but deep inside Tsuna she knew this was not her case. This was not the reason why she was there and suffering... yet she would not want to correct him. She would not openly tell him that it was not because of her desire to be free that she was in such a disadvantaged position but because all of the members of her family, except for her parents, were dead, as she did not have the heart to shame him like that. Instead of making him stop or tell him he was wrong, she kept her silence and gave weight by how she was moved by this man's act, someone whose first impression left on her mind was savage and heartless without a second thought jumped into the fray to defend her despite the fact that Vento personally did not know her.

"Maybe he wasn't that heartless after all."

If Tsuna was moved by his words, and the inn keeper felt shame for saying such tactless commentary, the men from Blue Pegasus were convinced that young man was indeed someone of high IQ, and probably there were a lot of people like him in his organization. They started to admire him and his views.

Thereafter, Vento expressed his desire to buy everyone something to eat. As he walked away from the group, Vert whispered to the inn keeper advising her to keep her mouth shut as it would not do her any good. The blonde and the bald man exchanged thoughts regarding Vento's speech, pretty much words of admiration and how lucky they were to meet a man of such intellect since someone like him did not frequent the gyms where they train their muscles. Tsuna, for her part, placed her hands on the pockets of her pants and waited in silence, not expecting that she was included in this treat. She assumed that it would be for the three men from Blue Pegasus who were dragged into their situation, when they should be travelling to Snap-Dragon Creek. She also started thinking how to return the 1000 Jewels Vento paid the aging violent inn keeper, eyes fixated on the ground as she thought of ways.

It didn't take long before Tsuna felt and heard Vento's footsteps nearing them, along with the distinct noise of a swinging plastic bag. She awaited for a signal for them to walk, but it did not happen. Much to the cross dresser's surprise, a plastic bag was passed onto her, prompting the girl to lift her head to see Vento smiling at her. For the first time that day she was able to look at him quite closely, and without seeing a murderous or threatening look in his eyes. It was the first time she took note of his features, how his ageless, sexless and divine visage was adorned by his matte black hair that cascaded over his vermilion eyes which served as if balls of fire in a dark night. It was a visual treat.

"Thanks," she said with a crooked smile, taking the plastic bag and fishing out a can of soda and something elongated wrapped in a foil. She then turned to the Blue Pegasus members to pass them the bag but upon noticing that Vento was eating a burger with thick, greasy patty, they declined. The inn keeper declined as well just so to keep her pride.

Tsuna shrugged.

She wore the handle of the plastic bag around her wrist. Tearing the foil, what she got was a nice, warm, fully packed submarine sandwich. Without second thoughts she took a bite, the grease from the salami and ham smearing her lips. The flavors of onion, tomato, ham, salami, cheese, dressing, and the buttered bread mingled in her taste buds along with the crunch brought by the lettuce and green bell peppers. Tsuna was contented of its taste.

"If they really don't want these," she said in reply to Vento after gulping down what was in her mouth while the researcher take another bite of his burger, "we could just eat this later. Too bad they'll miss such a good-tasting meal for free." Tsuna opened her soda and carefully took in its contents as they walked.

"It's alright," the bald man between them said, "we don't need cheat days!"

Tsuna smirked at the retort. She took another bite of her sandwich while letting out a loud delighted hum.

"Why, you two are making things hard for us..." the guy on the back said.

"It's alright guys, we're in the hospital now. Food isn't allowed inside as far as I remember so you two will stay outside as we take the madam in," Vert's words brought relief to his guild mates.
