Sarcasm. Because beating the shit out of people is illegal.

The sun was beginning its leisurely descent towards the western horizon when Poinsettia first came into view. Standing upon the fore deck of the grand cruise liner that had carried him from Bosco, Sol Castus's first impression of Fioran cities came to him in a burst of inspiration. Quaint. Though he knew it wasn't fair to compare the densely packed megalopolis that described even the most modest cities back in Bosco, he did it anyway and even from thousands of feet above the ground, everything seemed small... smaller than usual anyway.

Still, as he drew inexorably closer to what the brochure assured him was "a modern marvel of man and nature", he had to admit that what it lacked in size, it at least partway made up for in what he could only describe as vitality. When he thought of his homeland, it was a place of steel grey and hazy skies like a faded picture. Fiore on the other hand seemed brighter... cleaner and he wasn't yet sure if that was something he liked or not. He was used to the subtle tang that Boscan air held compared to the minty punch that each breath in Fioran gave his lungs.

"Sir, if you wouldn't mind coming inside, we'll be landing soon", a primly dressed attendant informed him from the ornate doors that separated the inside of the ship from the exterior and Sol reluctantly turned away from the view of the city as it bathed in the orange glow of sunset. The attendant held the door open as Sol approached and bowed deeply- an extravagant service he could have thanked his father for if he didn't find it so irksome. In fact, this entire trip had been planned and financed by his father as a method of rehabilitation. In reality he suspected that it was easier to have his recently hospitalised son out of the picture for a while to avoid embarrassment but he hardly cared either way as set foot on Fioran soil for the first time in his life.

Immediately he could see another of his fathers immaculately dressed attendant waiting with a sign with his name on it. How thoughtful of you father, I couldn't possibly have found my own way to the hotel he thought wryly as he approached the man and as he did so, saw recognition light up the attendants face as they made eye contact. "Welcome sir, I trust you had a pleasant flight", the man gushed. As well he should if my father paid half as much as I expect he has, Sol thought with grim amusement as the attendant continued to spout pleasantries which Sol dutifully ignored.

The attendant was still spitting forth a mountain of tourist related babble when Sol ruthlessly cut him off. "Where can I get a drink?" The attendant blinked twice and to his credit recovered quickly before responding. "Well there are many fine resorts within the city and your father has booked a-"
"No, not a resort. I want an inn or a tavern. Or does this city not have any of those?" Sol interjected with a raised hand. "Oh, well, I suppose the closest one would have to be the... um... Lavender Dog", the attendant mumbled, clearly rusty on anything less than the best that the city had. to offer.

Five minutes later Sol could be seen leaving the airport alone, having dismissed his father's attendant after having him draw a map that would take him to the establishment known as the Lavender Dog. The name made it difficult to judge what sort of audience it catered to, but as long as it wasn't full of pompous stiffs in suits and hats.

Kaede was starting her second first shift in her newly acquired job. Her boss, a woman named Snow White, had left the day before. Something about guilds and going on missions. Kaede wasn't all about that nonsense. Not yet anyway. She was too busy getting used to living life to the fullest. It was 9 in the morning, on a decently clear day, and she had been up since 6 preparing breakfast menu items. Now she just had to open the bar properly.

It wasn't as if a lot of riff raff came in here. Despite being a strong and capable girl, Kaede knew precisely why. Her boss was scary as hell. And apparently all the people here in Poinsettia knew it. They were more than happy to steer clear of this particular inn if they didn't think they could mind their manners. Apparently the consequences for not doing so ranged from a sound beating to never being seen again. Kaede might find Snow scary, but she respected and liked her as well. At the moment the first customer came to the counter, she was a bit of a mess. Her hair was tied back with a bandana, white in color, and her nose still had a dab of flour on it. An apron was covering her usual clothing, a pair of jean shorts and a frilly black top.

She smiled all the same at the old man who sat down. "Hello there. What can I get for you this morning?" She mentally puked at the bright cheery tone she heard come out of her mouth. But it was standard procedure, she thought, so she did it anyway. The old man looked her up and down a couple times like she was on the menu herself. Snow had told her defending herself was perfectly fine, by "Whatever means necessary," if she had to. Direct quote. So she dropped the smile a bit, just in case he got a little carried away.

"I'll have bacon and eggs please. Side of butterbeer." Kaede nodded once and ran off the fetch his order. He didn't seem to think anything of the creepy look, and she was trying to shake it off. Mentally she was cussing him. "Gross. Just fucking gross. Do I look that desperate? I think not. Ew. Creepy old geezer. I should spit in his food. But I won't. Yet." Instead she returned promptly with his order, and then found herself a place to sit where he couldn't stare at her but she could watch him.

It wasn't as bad once people started to filter in. Soon enough the breakfast rush was over, and she got to look forward to the coming evening, when she could serve drinks. She was awesome at that, and knew it. Now all she had to do was keep people happy, and keep herself from drinking as much as her customers. It was about now that she heard a voice behind her, and she turned, unaware she had mentally summoned him as the customer rush died down. "You should go get changed my lady. I will happily stay here and watch over the bar until you return." Ren was standing there, all imposing and stoic. Kaede smiled and touched his arm. "Don't scare people off. And if a customer comes in let me know ok?"

He nodded once and she rushed off the get her regular clothes cleaned up, as well as her face and to brush her hair. She couldn't meet people ready to drink looking like a morning mess. She got better tips if she happened to look cute, or at least well put together.

As Sol strolled casually down the ever darkening streets, his eyes roamed hungrily about as they drank in every detail. he knew his father had a philosophy of judging everything by price and somehow this city seemed to be the embodiment of such a school of thought. Every house he passed looked like his father had been the one paying for it, such was the grandeur and opulence that they displayed. Of course he shouldn't have been surprised that he'd been sent to such a place on his fathers behest, but somehow he'd deluded himself into thinking that maybe, just maybe his father had spared some expense on this occasion... not that he should be complaining when he was free to dip into his fathers coffers at his own discretion.

Another thing that didn't quite sit right with him was the way greenery was mixed so prolifically among the buildings. Speaking of buildings though, as he squinted at the scrap of paper in his hand and reckoned that he must have been close to his destination. Sure enough, as he took the final left turn the Lavender Dog was almost impossible to miss. Dominating the buildings on either side of it, light spilled into the already well-lit street from a myriad of windows spread across what looked to be three stories. But it was the sign that hung above the door that served as the biggest give away of all. All in all, the exterior of the Lavender Dog promised a grubbier sort of people than he'd dared to hope. All that remained to be seen was if the interior could live up to that promise.

Moments later Sol stepped across the threshold and into the comely warmth of the room within. As he looked around, he found himself breathing the faintest sigh of relief as he found that the bar wasn't populated with posh people who fancied themselves as being roguish characters. Directly in front of him Sol spotted the bar, behind which stood a man possessed of almost supernatural elegance. Between them lay dozens of tables- some of which were occupied- and to his right he spotted a staircase that led to the living quarters that doubtless lay above.

Satisfied that this place would serve for what he had in mind for his first night in Fiore, Sol strode purposefully towards the bar, his eyes moving past the barkeep and towards the impressive array of bottles arranged on the floor to ceiling shelves and then to the drinks list that sat invitingly atop the bar. "I'll have the house special", he said as he seated himself on one of the stools directly opposite the unusually attractive man behind the bar- whom had caused no less than half a dozen of the inn's female occupants to have gravitated towards the bar as well.

Kaede was still in the back when she heard a panicked sort of sound from Ren. He wasn't one to flirt, she reminded herself. So she took the opportunity to watch him squirm a little bit. Only a wee tiny bit, she promised herself, as half a dozen woman flocked to the bar to look at him like he was the moon and stars. Or, more likely, she thought with a snicker, like he would be a nice edition to their bedroom décor. "Uhm. Uh...K-Kaede?! There are customers." Kaede giggled and hollered back, "Just a moment!!" She turned one last time to make sure her appearance was fitting for her evening shift and then moved into the room, lest Ren decide he needed to physically defend himself against his would be attackers.

Ren for his part was simply looking at the gaggle of women, unsure of what to do. He wasn't used to this new world in which he had found himself. Back in his time, women hadn't been much for drinking unless they were...of the world's oldest profession, so to speak. Nor had they worn anything nearly so revealing as what these ones wore. Luckily none of them were offering to order anything, just staring, and whispering, and giggling. It made him highly uncomfortable.

The man who sat down at the bar drew some of the attention away from him as he waiting on his mistress. He had been there long enough to hear Ren call for Kaede, but when he asked for a drink, Ren stoicly replied, "The lady is coming. You can tell her your order." Looking in on it all, Kaede thought she might have been better off summoning her other little friend. He was the opposite of Ren in so many ways. He was flirty and talkative. But he tended to be a little...Well, overbearing was putting it mildly. So she mentally stopped herself from calling him out.

"What did sir ask for?" She made it around the large shelf of liquor which blocked everyone else's view into the kitchen to see a youth sitting there. He had dark hair, and looked to be a little older than Kaede. Not much anyway. Skinny, she thought. Or maybe just lanky. Either way, he was a customer, and her job was to serve, to the best of her ability. So she painted on the fake smile and looked at Ren. "House special." Kaede gave a quick nod and started to work. "Welcome to the Lavender Dog, by the way." She threw this over her should at the youth, watching the women move away even as Ren faded into the background somewhat. He tended to that when she was around.

She grabbed a few liquor bottles and an 8 ball glass, dropping a few cubes of ice in it before she started mixing. She loved the house special. A little sweet, a little tangy, super alcoholic without you really tasting the zing of the alcohol. She was quick, and had it up and ready in a jiffy, plopping it down on the bar gently in front of the man who ordered it. "I'm Kaede. I will be your server this evening." She leaned on the bar for a moment, dazzling fake as hell smile on full display. Ren, in the background, pursed his lips. Feeling his disapproval he let his consciousness slip away until he was only in the back of her mind, not standing on the floor. It wouldn't be an obvious thing. Not to anyone who wasn't trained to look. Just sort of like he had moved out of the line of sight.

"Anything else I can get you?" The barest hint of innuendo, not meant of course, but it usually worked in her favor.

Sol blinked once, the only outward sign of his surprise at the man's curt response to his request for a drink. He had heard the man call for someone over his shoulder soon after his arrival, but somehow it hadn't occurred to him that the man would flat out refuse to perform the duties that one would expect of someone standing on that side of the counter. But as his eyes drifted from Ren towards the woman he referred to as Kaede he quickly decided he didn't care that the man had refused to serve him.

She wasn't tall by any stretch of the imagination, but that was neither here nor there for the sort of thing that Sol had in mind for most good looking women he came across and this one... Kaede... was no exception and by the time she tossed him a greeting like water to a man in the desert. In a heartbeat he drank in the sight of her in such a practiced manner that it would appear as little more than a cursory glance. He'd had years of practice at this sort of thing after all and the more he saw, the more he felt the thrill of the chase building within him.

He'd never lain with a Fioran, now that he thought about it and whilst he wasn't normally one for sentiment, it seemed appropriate that his first conquest should be a difficult one. He'd learned through copious amounts of trial and error that women who worked in an establishment such as this were notoriously difficult to woo as a patron, because they knew every trick in the book. But at the same time, trial and error had taught him that difficult did not equal impossible and as the drink was placed in front of him he smiled gratefully all the while trying to weigh up as much about her as he could in as little time as possible.

She was younger than him, that much was clear, but that alone coupled with the fact that she manned the bar with- as best he could tell- only a single other and one who apparently refused to do bar work meant that the Lavender Dog was on the nicer end of the spectrum. This suggested to Sol that there was rarely- if ever- any trouble from patrons and that in turn meant that she probably wasn't as well versed in dealing with advances as he might have first thought. Still, that was no reason to bring anything less than his A game.

"I'm new in town, but I'm guessing this is the part where I say something inappropriate and you pretend to laugh while dismissing me as a filthy pig?" He asked casually as he took a sip of his drink- which he had to say was far more extravagant in both its appearance and its flavour than he'd expected from such an otherwise low key establishment. "This is... actually pretty good", he added with a sheepish grin before Kaede could respond to his earlier witticism. In his experience, earnest compliments- even if it was a little backhanded- was more easily received than outright flattery. Suddenly, Sol blinked as if surprised and smacked his own forehead with the palm of his hand in dismay. "I'm sorry, you introduced yourself and I should at least return the favour", he explained apologetically. "My name is Sol, it's nice to meet you Kaede", he said before taking another swig of his drink- which he'd already decided would not be his only one for the night. Not by a long shot...

Kaede wasn't all that surprised at the man's quick mention of being new in town. People tended to stop over at inns first when they were somewhere new, and she had no doubt that many of her patrons were more or less in the same boat, if she hadn't seen their faces in the last few days. Now as she looked at him, he made a quick witted comment about the usual protocol for this sort of thing. "Of course it's good. We serve it. The lady who owns this place is kind of awesome at doing the menus. I'm just amazing at mixing them." She gave a quick wink and then moved away, attending to other customers and ignoring his previous comment. "Nice to meet you as well Sol. I do hope you enjoy Poinsettia, Fiore as a whole really. Not sure where you're from, but I'm assuming it's not here."

Kaede had never been one to be slow on the uptake. It just wasn't part of her M.O. She served several people who were waiting for drinks, food, other things before she started actually getting really busy. It was about now that she decided Iki might need to be around, since it was peak hours and the whole place was packed. Not to mention there was a table full of huge guys eyeing her like she was a cute little cupcake. That tended to piss her off to no end.

Without really anything changing, Yuudai cam into the picture. He was tall and lean, with an eyepatch over one eye and a single golden gleaming iris on the other side of his head. He had a near constant smirk, and emerged from around the same counter that Kaede had come from earlier, as if he were meant to be there, instead of him being magical. "You called miss?" Kaede nodded and pointed to the table of rather large men, all three of them. "I need you to help me serve. Do you mind?" The tall man shook his head, and started that way, dressed in a bartender's outfit he had picked up from gods knew where on their travels here.

She moved back toward Sol as the place started to get more and more packed. She had served nearly everyone at least once, but she wanted to make sure he didn't need anything else. He was cute, she would give him that. But she had seen through that little act he had put on earlier. As she was nearly certain he could see through her chipper one she kept up constantly. "So if you're new in town, would you be needing a room for the night? Or maybe just another drink?" She was smiling, but it was less fake than it had been earlier.

He seemed like something of a challenge. Flirt that she was, she had no problem with making her life more interesting. She was just about to start making him another House special, on the house, when a small rukus broke out in the corner of the barroom. It seemed the table full of gentlemen Yuu was serving weren't happy their server didn't have boobs. She could hear her summon talking quietly to the gentlemen, used loosely as a term of course, and trying to calm them; reminding them of where they were, and whose establishment it was.

"Yeah but that bitch aint here, and you and shorty there don't seem the type to be able to handle anything we throw at you." Kaede's smile disappeared and it was replaced with an ugly sneer. People around her had hushed up. "Shall I use that one my lady?" Yuu sounded way too giddy. And Kaede had to remember that his spell would not just hurt those it was meant to hurt. Plus it would destroy the bar, so she gave a quick shake of the head.

Yuudai sighed, disappointed in the extreme. "Fiiine." Had the men been smarter, they might have had the good sense to run away. They weren't smarter. More's the pity. Before any of the three knew what was happening, Yuudai had used his Pull technique, pulling all three toward him with inexorable force. "Do you have your sword handy my lady, or shall I just take them outside?"

"Take the dogs outside. Give them a good lesson in manners there if you please." He nodded and dragged them by force out the door, screaming and shouting. The mask of chipperness dropped back into place and Kaede turned back toward Sol as the talk in the room resumed. "You were saying?"

Sarcasm. Because beating the shit out of people is illegal.

From the way the man who had been behind the bar earlier had spoken to her, Sol had made the natural assumption that Kaede was the owner of the Lavender Dog. Common sense should have told him that it was unlikely that she had the means to purchase such a place. But thanks to his own uber privileged upbringing, he just kind of assumed that everyone had a fabulously wealthy family to fall back on. Clearly they did not and this didn't seem to be anything remotely close to the time to start up conversation about family or wealth. In fact, it practically never was.

Seeing that his initial attempt at flirting had been largely unsuccessful, Sol realised that it was highly likely that the jig was up. In his defense, it was incredibly difficult to be subtle in circumstances such as this and his target was what he and his friends had referred to as the 'holy grail' of conquests in their youth. Furthermore, the more he watched as Kaede went about her work, the more he realised just what sort of girl she was. She served the customers with a face almost as false as the one Sol used when he was chasing skirts and that was an impressive feat indeed. She did just enough to keep her patrons happy without giving them more than a taste of her favor.

"I'm from..." he paused for a heartbeat as he realised that this was the first time the issue of his homeland had come up since he'd arrived and only now did he recall that Fiore and Bosco hadn't been on the greatest of terms until quite recently. Although Sol hadn't participated in the Fioran campaign, he doubted that most would other to make such a distinction. "I'm from up north", he clarified with a nonchalant shrug and then he was on his own again for a stretch as she attended to the newest set of patrons to approach the bar.

In that time Sol couldn't help but wonder about the efficiency of running what so far seemed to be a rather scarce workforce. Was this an unusually busy night? Were the other staff on break or sick? It was a small puzzle, but there wasn't much else for him to occupy himself with while his conquest was flitting around dutifully doing her job. Then a new face appeared from... he wasn't exactly sure where but he was possessed of a similar kind of aura as the one who had refused to serve him earlier and Sol could have been persuaded to believe that they were brothers at a glance.

Unlike his counterpart however, this one didn't seem shy to get his hands dirty as he began moving around the room from table to table taking orders and relaying them back to the kitchen with practiced ease. But Sol quickly stopped paying attention to the man as Kaede returned to him and despite knowing her game, he allowed himself to relish the faint tingle of affection that her continued attention brought. "For now, another drink of the same will do me nicely", he grinned as he slid his now empty glass aside. He knew that he had a room booked in his name at a 5 star resort not too far away, but depending on how things went there was no reason he couldn't make... other arrangements.

It was at that moment that something of a scene erupted behind him and Sol found that he couldn't help but grin as the familiar scenario unfolded. He may have been thousands of miles from home, but it was oddly reassuring to know that some things were universal no matter how far you went. Now he found one of his earlier questions answered as Kaede's one eyed co-worker took it upon himself to deal with the commotion. Though Sol did find it strange that throughout the exchange the man constantly looked to Kaede for direction. Perhaps she was simply his manager, but Sol had the nagging feeling that whatever their relationship was... it wasn't strictly professional and as the men were dragged in a most unusual fashion out through a door located at the back of the bar, Sol was snapped back to reality by Kaede's voice

"I have to admit, I'm surprised. From what I've seen so far, I didn't think anyone in Poinsettia was capable of starting a ruckus like that", he noted with raised eyebrows. "It's kind of reassuring to know that no matter where I go, some things never change... though I don't suppose you feel the same way", he added with a grin and took a swig from his second House Special.

Honesty without tact is cruelty.

It didn't take Yuudai quite as long as he would have liked to teach the necessary lesson. It was a pretty clear directive from the actual owner of the bar that this sort of thing had to be nipped in the bud, lest people start raising hell in her absence. The three men he had been holding were abruptly dropped on their respective asses as he let them go. She had said not to kill them, that was true enough. But there were some small loopholes. She hadn't said he couldn't make them wish they were dead, for instance. So he proceeded to not only beat the everlasting shit out of them, his face and hands and shirt getting smattered with blood as he broke noses, dislocated a jaw, and crushed an eye socket so thoroughly that the man would probably never see again; he also got out his katana, and gave each of them a superfluous reminder not to fuck with the people who ran this bar ever again.

He went in through the back, his eye alight with the absolute joy it brought him to harm another living being. He didn't walk back through to the bar, instead he sat in silence in Kaede's fluffy pink and red bedroom, trying to slow his breathing. He would have to change, he reflected, and he would have to wash up. But for now, he was simply relishing the rush.

Kaede smirked at Sol. A truer expression of her self than any face she had given him so far. "This place is almost always trouble. Fiore I mean. The bar is usually much quieter than this. Snow, the girl who owns the place, keeps people in line. She's kinda scary, apparently." And now it was Kaede's turn to make sure people knew not to fuck around when she was in charge. Snow had warned her this was likely to happen, but she hadn't thought it would happen with such immediacy. She wondered for a moment where on earth Yuudai had gotten to, hoping he hadn't been seriously waylaid by those idiots, but she quickly dismissed it.

For one such as him, there was very little chance of someone getting the one up. Unless they were mages. Strong ones. She doubted that highly, since the building was still standing. Instead she looked Sol over again. For the moment her customer base was happy. And within a few hours people would leave quietly and she would eventually end up alone in her room, sleeping the night off. She handed him his drink, and poured one for herself. She raised the glass in a toast. "Here's to good company, and the people who keep bad company from staying around too long." She gave a wink and knocked her glass gently against his before downing the whole thing.

Alcohol was one of her favorite things, but she was trying not to indulge while she was working. Trying being the operative word there. "So you're new in town, and you're not sure where you're staying, but you'd rather get drunk first is what I'm getting." She made herself a second drink, swearing it was the last one as her cheeks flushed a bright pink. She downed that one pretty quickly too. Habit, to drink as fast as she could. Now she chatted with Sol, and was absentmindedly pouring a third drink when Yuudai reemerged.

"Come now mistress. We both know how many that makes." His voice was like velvet as he tried to coax the glass from her hand. She didn't resist for a change and he downed it himself. He was in new clothes, and the fire had died from his eyes. "I was getting worried. All went to plan?" He nodded. "And you only taught them a lesson, one they'll remember in the morning...When they get a chance to wake up?" She couldn't help squinting as she asked it. There was a soft chuckle, and a nod. Yuu put his right hand over his heart and made a mock bow. "I followed my orders to the letter."

Kaede squinted again, but she trusted him. "Good. Then hand me back my glass and go make yourself useful. It's about time for my break." She took the glass back with ease and started to refill it. She hopped across the bar easily enough (comical though it was to watch with her tiny legs and her having to quite literally hop) and took a seat beside Sol. "So. I know men love to talk about themselves. Tell me more about you." She was bored in the extreme, and was very much enjoying the buzz the alcohol had given her. Now she needed company, while Yuudai moved off to follow her orders with a bemused shake of the head.

A customer, complaining of the special treatment Sol was getting got a laugh out of the dark haired man. "I wouldn't bother with envy. The poor bastard has no idea what he's getting himself into."

Sol listened when Kaede spoke, a skill that surprisingly few man seemed capable of mastering. Truthfully, when it came to any successful conquest it wasn't the witty one liners or the poetic flattery that sealed the deal. Nine times out of ten all you had to do was listen and then prove that you'd listened afterwards. It was true that women loved to talk, but what wasn't quite as common knowledge was that they loved to be listened to as well. Which is why Sol cocked his head to one side as Kaede spoke of the landlady who owned the Lavender Dog. "Well, I'll be sure not to get on her bad side if I ever meet her if I can help it. Is she often away like this?"

It wasn't normally Sol's strategy to talk about other women with a potential conquest, but in this case he could tell that the landlady was someone that Kaede respected and possibly even looked up to if he was to push the bounds of logical deduction. By now Sol had lost track of how many House Special's he'd consumed, but experience told him he wasn't in danger of reaching his limit just yet so he paid it little mind as he playfully toasted Kaede and was impressed to see her down her entire drink in one gulp.

"What brings you to my side of the counter?" He asked teasingly as she hopped it with fairly impressive fluidity considering how much alcohol she'd consumed over a rather short period of time. Evidently her one eyed companion agreed with this summation as he intervened, but it was a short lived attempt that left Kaede with a fresh drink in hand and the man- Yuu being his name- left in accordance with her demands. He was about to inquire into the exact nature of her relationship with the two men who seemed to work with- or rather, under- her but Kaede was faster in asking him a question of her own.

Sol scratched his chin thoughtfully at the question, the alcohol coursing through his system making the prospect of sharing such information far more likely than without it. It wasn't like he was going out of his way to hide where he was from, he reasoned with himself, he was just being wary of upsetting the locals before knowing exactly how Boscan's were regarded by the general public. In the end he grinned and leaned one elbow against the counter so he could face Kaede whilst remaining sitting down. "Well I pride myself on keeping an aura of mystery, but I suppose I can't very well turn down a direct request from a beautiful woman such as yourself", he sighed and ran his free hand through his hair thoughtfully.

"I've come to Fiore to escape a life of excitement and adventure in exchange for peace, quiet, alcohol and pleasant company", he said with a meaningful look at Kaede as he spoke this last part. "So far I'd have to say it was a good trade, but there's still room for improvement", he smiled, letting the words hang teasingly between them before leaning back slightly. "But what about you? Is managing an inn your life's great ambition, or is this just a pit stop along the way to something greater?"

Kaede sipped at her drink now, smiling slightly. She had no reason to keep her smile put away for the moment. "I got bored." she said lightly, in response to her reason to be on the other side of the counter. She was far from drunk, but she was enjoying pretending to be drunker than she was. It tended to bring out a person's true nature when they thought you were vulnerable. Remembering he had asked her a question about Snow, she sighed, conceding mentally she might be a little bit drunker than she had initially thought. "She, Snow I mean, has been gone just for a day. She will come check in from time to time she said, but she's handed it over to me to run." She could hear the genuine pride in her own voice. It wouldn't seem like much to most people, but for someone who had spent most of her life forced into a role she never fit, she was still trying to work out where exactly she did belong. And this was a good halfway point.

Of course it was right about now that he stated spitting out compliments like they were going out of style. Well, one. He called her beautiful. She laughed a little, obliging him, and cupping her soft cheek with a palm to look up at him with doe eyes as he answered her initial question. Of course she knew what that answer meant. Or what it usually meant for certain. In general such an answer about his aura meant he had a shitty or shady past. She squinted at him a little, and her summon, still working in her place, was smiling to himself as he knew nearly for certain how those gears were busy turning in her mind.

She was painting a totally false picture of the guy in front of her as a pirate, robber, or worse. And how it was all due to unfair circumstances and through no fault of his own. It was one of her many hobbies and it was shockingly accurate as to what was going through her head. She pursed her lips, not unprettily and took a sip of her drink. "Mysterious Aura indeed." She smirked though, still writing her own version of events in her mind. "For the record, Fiore is so not the place to run to when you don't want to have adventures. I'm pretty sure it's the adventuring capital of the world." This was only partially tongue in cheek. She certainly hadn't had a singular dull day since she had left home. She answered his return question without acknowledging the innuendo he left there in the air.

"It's what I am happiest at for now. Whether that lasts forever or not remains to be seen." She could keep an aura of mystery too by gosh, she thought. And nearly stuck her tongue out at him, but thought better of it at the last second. Realizing quite suddenly that she had probably drunk more than was entirely good for her if she planned to come out of this encounter unscathed, she held her glass, still half full, aloft. Yuudai was there in under 5 seconds, replacing the glass with a cup of coffee, as he had known he would have to. It seemed like a much practiced exchange, no matter who might be looking on.

"Thank you." The same little bow from before and then he was gone again, until such time as she decided her break was over. Which was about as long as it would take her to drink the piping hot coffee. "So...I guess to get down to the bones of all this mess," she took a sip and shuddered. It was black. Gross. No cream or sugar. But she couldn't complain and recognized it as a slight admonition from her summon. "Blech! Anyway! I can pick out of the lines in your words that you're interested in nothing so much as getting in my pants, and I have to say, while you're pretty pretty, I don't see it happening. No matter what sort of pirate you are, or how mean your father was to you to force you to run away and turn to a life of crime." She blinked confusedly at him a couple times, realizing she had blurted out half the backstory she had made for him without thinking.

Across the room, Yuudai was trying really hard not to fall over and die laughing. Instead he sounded like someone was choking him. Loudly.

Kaede tapped the side of her glass quickly, to break the awkwardness. "So uh, what else would you like to talk about? You have until my coffee is gone. Which could take a while cause it's gross."
