Vivian was on the road again, this time with a little more purpose in her ceaseless wandering than before. In the year that she'd been here there had always been talk about the guilds. The guilds did this, the guilds did that. It seemed like every mage who wanted to be anyone eventually ended up in one of these guilds. In her mind there was no doubt that she would end up there sooner or later. Perhaps she wasn't the strongest mage on the block now, but it was all coming back to her... slowly. Infuriatingly so. Sighing as she looked up at the cloudy skies and bleak hills that surrounded her Vivian grumbled under her breath. What did a girl have to do to get stronger around here? Not that she could really complain about some down time. Between demonic hordes, escaping from the inquisition, being thrust in the middle of a cold war and fighting off the magical creature equivalent to a nuke being a nobody for once was... a little refreshing. Having been up since the crack of dawn it wouldn't be until sometime in the afternoon that Viv would slow down and look around for a place to make lunch. There was clearly no shortage of rocky outcroppings, and finding one that had a nice grassy patch she carefully sat down. Rolling onto her back she lazily watched the clouds go by as she nibbled a carrot from her pack to take the edge off her hunger. She should probably be looking to make more progress but it was a pretty nice day out... |

It had been sorely tempting to take a nap right then and there. Getting up and looking mournfully over at the seductively comfy patch of grass she had been laying on Vivian made herself a quick lunch with what remained of her provisions. Once she got to the city she would have to restock, but that was fine. She was fairly sure it wouldn't take more than an hour or so anyway. Forcing herself to eat slowly so as to not wolf everything down in her excitement to hit the road again, Viv broke camp and set out. Her estimate had been a little off, apparently she was closer than she had approximated. 30 minutes later she was in the city that housed Lamia Scale, one of the guilds she had heard so much about. Taking in the buildings and decorations she couldn't help but admiring it all. So much of Fiore was beautiful, both naturally and what was man-made. The people here seemed to really like their art, and she certainly couldn't complain. The first thing she did was make her obligatory sketches and notes as soon as she could find a quiet place that she could relax. Shade wasn't really a concern even at this hour, so the only issue was finding a place without distractions. There was a place with a little bench that seemed out of the way enough, and without further ado she plopped down to start scribbling away. She wasn't the most graceful artist by any stretch of the imagination, but she was fairly good at making accurate images from what she saw. Gods knew she had spent enough time making diagrams in her time at university. As she drew her mind wandered as it often did, threatening a vivid memory. This time at least it was a fairly neutral one, as she realized that Belladonna had many similarities to the city hidden in Echo where she had spent much of her time before Fiore. Remove the lacrima-tech, add steam inventions and made everything look a touch darker... it certainly could work. Vivian idly mused with herself about what such parallels meant and let the memory play itself out since it was doing no harm for now. |

It would be some time before Vivian even realized there were people other than her on the bench as focused as she was on her work. When she finally looked up there was both an elderly grandmother as well as a young girl sitting next to her much to her surprise. The girl made a comment about how the day was perfect for a nap... which was funny because just earlier Vivian had been thinking the same thing. She took a moment to look over the girl that was now sitting beside her seemingly bubbling happily with energy. It had been awhile since she had felt anywhere near that energetic, it made her feel old. Perhaps it was in part because of that that Galaxia didn't get the cold shoulder, because Vivian decided to play along and have a chat. With a hesitant nod she responded quietly to the question. "Can't complain about weather like this really, although it makes it all too tempting to just lay down and fall asleep sometimes." She offered a hand and a small smile as she turned to face her properly. "I'm Vivian, a traveler and I suppose you could say... scholar of sorts. Are you originally from Belladonna or did you end up here too?" Beyond this her pool of dialogue options just dried up. Small talk for its own sake more often than not grated her nerves, but already having committed she wasn't going to back out. It was at this point that she realized that perhaps the girl hadn't been talking to her at all and she had just made the assumption without thinking. Flushing slightly she waited to see what would happen. |

With some relief Vivian saw the girl respond to her, at least she hadn’t been talking out loud to herself. Inspecting the girl further it would now be impossible to forget the young one (as Vivian thought of everyone not in their late 40’s or older) due to her blasted memory. Although she supposed it had some uses, like right now. Not that she would likely forget someone like Galaxia, there was quite a bit about the smaller girl that made her stand out. First off there was her strange clothing. It was very colorful, and unlike anything Vivian had run across before in Fiore. Galaxia did admit she was from another country though, so that could explain a lot of the eccentricities. Vivian’s eyes flitted up to Galaxia’s hair with its five different shades and she subconsciously fiddled with her braid of simple black hair. Something about the excess reminded her of being back in court, and a ghost of a smile played across her face. A very, very, very (very) small part of her did miss the good times that came from that time. All this assessment only took a second as her eyes settled back on Galaxia’s red-orange orbs of impossible sweetness. People aren’t this… bubbly, at least not any people Vivian knew. It was throwing her off. Watching the girl reach into her pocket and offer her chocolate Vivian arched a single eyebrow questioningly, the silent equivalent of “but why”. Mumbling a "Thank you..." she accepted the gift awkwardly, averting her eyes. Trying to come up with something witty to say she wasn’t paying much attention to her surroundings, so the first signs of something being wrong went completely over her head. Perhaps if she had then she would have been on alert from all the strange happenings around her. While Vivian didn’t think much of human nature she would have still found it odd that so many people we acting in clearly over the top negative fashion. As it was she came to attention when Galaxia asked her if all this was weird. ”Whu?” Blinking in confusion the biomancer looked around pursed her lips. She had heard some odd rumours about Belladonna, but she hadn’t been expecting anything to come from it. Judging from what she could see there might be some strange magic afoot, although it seemed to be limited making couples fight for now. Whatever nuisance it was that had caused this would likely be dealt with by the local authorities before too long… but it had been awhile since she had a live target. Smiling apologetically to Galaxia, Vivian stood up to leave. ”Well now, that’s just disruptive. How am I supposed to focus on anything like this? If you’ll excuse me, I need to take a closer look at the commotion and that… strange thing.” |

It was with some concern that Vivian noted the darker shades the cupid's wings were starting to take. Is that a cupid, or some form of demon? She mused to herself as she muttered an answer to Galaxia's question. “I find trouble has a way of following me around.” Still studying the creatures she tried to compare them to various creatures she had encountered in the past, but other than the one incident with the Christmas elves (which she wasn't entirely sure wasn't just in her imagination and further proof of her own insanity) there really wasn't anything. When the cupids decided to attack however, her attitude shifted visibly. “Well now if you’re going to attack my friend then I guess I’m entitled to self-defense aren’t I?” A wolfish grin covered her face as Vivian shifted into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE (I’m sorry I had to say it at least once), running into the trio of cupids who gave love a bad name. While they were still low enough for her to reach she would feint with an overhead slash using the cutting edge of the partisan. As soon as the cupid she was targeting had committed to the dodge she would instead thrust, stabbing through his wing and grounding him. With a twist and a pull Vivian dislodged the weapon from the wing and ensured that he wouldn’t be using that wing for flying anytime soon. Looking up at the other two just in time to see them let loose a pair of arrows, she dodged to the side and narrowly avoided them due to her heightened reflexes from her spell and the exhilarating onslaught of adrenaline she had come to miss. Beating the cupid on ground with the butt of her partisan, a single solid crack to the forehead knocked him out. They were feeble, if also fast and airborne making them difficult to deal with. The other two took to the roofs and started firing arrows, so Vivian decided now would be a good time to withdraw and regroup. Grabbing Galaxias hand she would hold on tight and pull as she shouted over her shoulder, already running at full tilt. "We need to pull them away from crowded areas, come on!" |
