Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

From her expression, Mallorie knew some of what Varriden was explaining, but who knows exactly how much. He kept explaining anyway - if he didn't know how much she was aware of, it was better not to leave anything out in terms of describing how his own magic works. He did, however, neglect to mention the exact number of technique he already had - he found that information rarely helped him in acquiring more techniques, at least when it came to try and use it as a form of diplomacy - people tended to think he was greedy for techniques, or more focused on the collection of the techniques than the mage who was providing them, which wasn't necessarily true - he did express an interest in the hobbies of some mages, just that magic was his own hobby, though he would be the first to admit that the line blurred a bit at times.

"True enough," Varriden said. "Not having a voice doesn't mean they aren't worthy of respect. Thankfully, more summoners than just yourself feel that way, otherwise the issue would be far more widespread." When he brought up the mention of copying her summon's techniques, she seemed a little unsure, or more accurately, seemed like she agreed, but mostly because she had a reason to two to summon her friend Serpens anyway, and Varriden might have the chance to copy their techniques while they were out. I can't tell if she's being shy or if she's just honestly unsure about the copying of techniques, Varriden thought, slightly puzzled.

"Yes, let's get to the guild hall." Varriden said, nodding in agreement. Varriden led her through the twists and turns of Belladonna - which made it difficult to find for most newcomers to the city, as not only did the paths twist and turn, but there are multiple levels, so it was like trying to find a needle in a haystack, which had been clumped together with other haystacks. Eventually, though, they reached a ramp that lead up to a grand building with the Lamia Scale emblem glowing along the front of it. "Here we are - the Lamia Scale guild hall."

The building was a sprawling castle-like structure, with multiple levels and windows by the dozens, each flashing with the occasional rune or spell that was enchanted within the walls, though a few flashes came from mages within practicing their own magic, no doubt

It'd been so long since Mallorie held a decent conversation with another, especially in such a unique and machinist city as Belladonna. If Mallorie could, she'd have Serpens out at all times. Unfortunately, Mallorie couldn't, for she didn't harbor the strict reserves necessary to support a Spirit for too long in the outside world. Eventually, stronger Spirits are able to manifest and support themselves with their own magic, but even then, it drains the summoner and could potentially be life threatening if far too much force was exerted. Mallorie knew this all too well, and often tried to avoid frenetic situations. . . Even if she often landed herself in various kinds all at the same time -- which is a new feat of ridiculousness that needs to be matched.

Or has already been matched, she wasn't sure.

As Varriden continued to explain his magical expertise, Mallorie of course, as per usual, nodded along, assenting to the information inculcated. Mallorie knew plenty -- this was certain, but she didn't know as much as Varriden in the case of his magic. Having a portable library wherever one went proved useful for a variety of things. After all, if one got into a certain situations, it'd take more brains than brawn to effectively survive through it. Mallorie wished she could learn Archive magic. . . But there was a thick line between learn such magic and her already chosen profession. Other magics just didn't work for her! Perhaps it's more of a boon than a curse, though.

"I suppose Summoners that just see their contracts less than truly says a lot about them," Mallorie prayed that someday she wouldn't meet such a rakish person. She already has enough stress as it is, traversing the expansive lands of Fiore, and trying to find her calling. Perhaps Lamia Scale will be a milestone in her adventures. She wasn't powerful enough nor noteworthy enough to officially join the guild, but if she could retrieve a few jobs, no matter how minor, that would help. After all, she needs to fund her hotel rooms and concessions somehow -- and without Jewels, not even the most powerful of mages can survive. Though she has no issue laying low in the wilderness either, but. . . She wasn't planning on doing that any time soon.

Not in Belladonna, at least.

Soon, in the horizon like a shining alabaster beacon which faded from darkness, the sun's luminescent rays filtering upward and dancing about in the sea green sky, the castle of Lamia Scale appeared. It was a gilded guild hall with supreme taste and architecture, powerful defenses, amazing spires and glistening towers. It was tessellated perfectly, masonry and carpentry alike glistering with the effervescence and aura of powerful magic. Vacillating blasts of magic could be seen through the lucent window panes, and Mallorie couldn't help but contain her excitement. Her arms drew inward as she began to tremble with ebullience, only then extending her arms upward in further awe.

"It's amazing! This guild must be so popular -- I mean, of course it is! Aaaaaaah," She squeaked, before inhaling and recomposing herself. "Uhm -- Okay, I don't. . . I don't want to enter and summon Serpens within. Uh, I don't want to show off, so," She looked to her left hand, at the glinting silver hoop ring and ornate, Silver key of the Serpent. Grasping it, she jut her arm out, in a single, swift motion.

"Open, Gate of the Serpent! Serpens!" In that same second, a foot adjacent to her, erupted a teal and archaic circle of light, bells ringing out. Hissing emitted from the magic cast as a puff of purple smoke soon dissipated, revealing a spear-wielding, pallid girl with strange, oriental clothing of some kind. Her chest seemed to be plated with something armor-like, and her spear was held in one hand. Her shock white of hair flowed in the essence of Mallorie's magic. Blinking a few times, Serpens turned about.

"How may I be of assistance?-de arimasu," She questioned, her intonation monotone, yet with some kind of friendly inclination.

In the end, Mallorie showed off -- whoops.

"I suppose it does speak ill of the summoner," Varriden agreed, with a shake of his head, in silent disappointment of those types.

When Mallorie saw the guild hall itself, she fangirled some before she calmed down, and realized that she had agreed to show her summon when Varriden finished showing her the way to the guild hall, but that it probably wouldn't be good for a new mage to wander through the front door and use her summon in front of everyone. "You do raise a fair point," Varriden noted. "It would raise a few eyebrows. Most would understand, of course, but better to not risk ruffling any feathers the wrong way."

Mallorie grasped the silver key on the ring, holding it in the air briefly as she called out the name of her summon. A magic circle appeared, filling the air with magical smoke, then cleared to reveal her summon of choice - Serpens, who looked like a little girl with long white hair and a spear in one hand, asking how she could be of assistance. A bit showy, in the end, but still better than doing that right in the middle of the guild, Varriden thought.

"Interesting design in the clothing," Varriden noted. "With all the green, makes me imagine a combination of druid and nature-mage clothing, with a dash of witch here and there, particularly in the style of the hat. But I'd be more curious to see what kind of spellcraft she can wield." Varriden said. He closed his eyes, and when he reopened them, a magic circle of various, shifting colors was matrix'd over his eyes. "Whenever you're ready."

With Serpens now within the world, Mallorie immediately began to feel the draining effects of her Stellar Spirit gnawing at her very soul. It was indeed a hard life as a Summoner, especially when one was so new to it. Wincing a bit, Mallorie craned her head back and looked to the Lamia Scale guild hall once more. No one was watching, right? Despite there being no shame in summoning a Stellar Spirit in such a way -- which was, truly, the most common and expected way --, Mallorie didn't want to seem bombastic or ostentatious. Truly, she was just a mage like any other -- with high aspirations and goals that she hoped to achieve one day. But for now, she needed to start slow. Perhaps Serpens being out and showcasing her magic was one of those many first steps onto the path of a true Stellar Spirit mage.

But she'd only become a true one when she gets her first Gold Key, whenever that will be, and whoever that will be.

"Hello, Serpens," Mallorie greeted with a glistening grin. "Uhm. My friend here, Varriden," She gestured, to the mage before the two. "He'd like to witness your magic casting -- you can do anything, anything you want! Uhm, I suggest you uh," She looked about, frowning. There was a small plan at the edge of a pool, flowing gently in the arid zephyr which weaved through Belladona's many skyscrapers and architecture. There was also the pool itself, pulsating along with the wind, glistering and lucent in the sun's radiant glory. It was somewhat nostalgic, and felt great. . . But, now wasn't the time to get distracted. She promised Varriden something, and she was going to do good on her promise.

"Okay, Serpens, go ahead. Uhm, turn that flower by the pond into stone!" She directed with confidence, waving Serpens' silver, jagged key in the direction of said flower. Serpens turned about slowly, gripping her spear, very blase. For a few moments, the Stellar Spirit stared down the flower, registering it as an enemy. Moments passed. . . And then, she nodded to Mallorie. "Very well, Miss Mallorie. I will appropriately execute this request," Smiling, the Serpent looked Varriden, noticing the archaic and radiant matrix within his irises, nodding to him.

With a quick swish of her spear, Serpens allowed a green, ornate, glowing magical seal to pop into existence before her, in all its reptilian design. In that same second, the aforementioned flower immediately adopted a light brown stone overlay, freezing it in place. Seconds later, Serpens released her concentration, and the flower was free once more.

"How was that?-de arimasu,"
She questioned, looking to Mallorie, and then Varriden next.

Mallorie was glad that Serpens managed to issue out such a feat, and she felt more drained as a result. Certainly, she would need to get used to have her Stellar Spirit out. Mallorie, despite all the situations she'd gotten into, doesn't quite have the luxury of always keeping Serpens materialized in the Earthland plane. And, unfortunately, the Serpent wasn't capable of evoking herself into the Earthland plane on her own magical repository. There would need to be a closer pond -- a tighter, taut connection. There would need to be strengthened ties.

With his Decipher technique active, Varriden's own perception was increased considerably - he didn't notice more than he normally did, as he had trained himself to be aware of his surroundings on multiple levels, as collecting information for an Archive mage wasn't just a hobby, it was how he built up his strength by leaps and bounds at times, if he was fortunate enough to encounter a mage with techniques to learn and willingness to share them - but he often noticed other little details when his altered vision was in effect, and the slight tensing of Mallorie did not go unnoticed by the Archive mage. Perhaps that was another reason she didn't want to summon her companion in front of everyone else, Varriden thought. Showiness aside, she didn't want to reveal the strain that it places on her from the upkeep of a single summon. A cautious but reasonable idea, though they likely wouldn't judge for that. She even glanced at the windows, no doubt looking for prying eyes. "You need not be concerned about prying eyes," Varriden said. "Most of the mages have their noses in books or other research, too busy to gaze out a window and see what's going on outside. Even the ones invested in botanical research usually keep their focus on their gardens."

Mallorie greeted her summon, and after fumbling for a moment verbally - no doubt trying to figure out how to cast a spell without having a clear target in mind - she told Serpens to use her technique on the flower by the pond, which Varriden thought sounded interesting when she mentioned turning it to stone. A petrification technique, now there's a rare sight, Varriden thought. Serpens gestured with her spear, a green magic circle appearing at the end of the weapon - the serpent and scale-like patterns within it not going unnoticed by the Archive mage - and the flower slowly turned gray and stiff as it was turned into stone, though it turned back to normal when Serpens lowered her spear.

"That was very well done - both the technique and the reversal. Does it actually turn the target into actual stone, or does it just coat the target in stone so that it's frozen in place and can't move?" Varriden asked, the irony of his last name not lost on him at the moment.

Perhaps it shouldn't have come to a surprise to Mallorie that Varriden noted her fidgeting. After all, he was somewhat of an established mage -- from what she could presume. Likewise, he had likely far more time to hone his magical caliber than Mallorie, and his perspicacity, due to the nature of his magic, was way up there -- by far more than a normal human mage. But even so, Mallorie froze in place as if she had been turned to stone instead of the flower when Varriden noted this, and seconds later, she dissolved slightly and regained her composure, clearing her throat. "I suppose I just don't want to seem weak, is all," She admitted, with a very honest countenance -- her brows creasing not only in worry, but acknowledgement of Varriden's concern and kind advice.

"But even so -- appearances are important. I can't falter, not even a little," Mallorie jutted her arm out once more, grip tight but considerate on Serpens key. The silver key glinted slightly, looking to Serpens. "That was great Serpens, and ah --" But before Mallorie could speak, Serpens interjected with her own words, casting her serpentine stare on the Deciphering mage.

"The target is encased in a stone shell," She explicated. "The target, at this stage, can free themselves without too much trouble. However, it causes a necessary deterrent in case that Miss Mallorie needs to make a quick get-away-de arimasu," Mallorie, in the meantime, seemed a bit nervous and embarrassed. She could fight very well on her own, thank you very much! But then again, Mallorie preferred not to. Though, it would definitely be a slight step-up. After all, sustaining Serpens was no easy feat. At least, not yet. So, clearing her throat, Mallorie gathered Serpens' attention once more, smiling graciously to her Stellar Spirit partner.

"Thank you for explaining, Serpens. Now," She directed, the key returning to the positioning she had before. "For your second magical technique, Serpens," She called out. With this, Serpens nodded swiftly and assumed an offensive stance with her spear, settling laterally to her body and directing her gaze to the pool. Much like a serpent seeking its pray, Serpens stare molded into a menacing leer, and without warning, various sparks lit up in the air around the Serpent. In seconds, a very tiny army of needles appeared around her. There seemed to be about five in the air, a faint lavender glow. The same magical seal she cast to manifest her stone-binding spell was below her sandals.

"Eject-de arimasu," She spoke, and the needles, one by one, in rapid succession, gunned down into the pool as splash after splash permeated. It was harsh and volatile, and heavily characteristic. It seemed as though the water was bubbling as well, which heavily hinted to the potential and new toxicity of the water. Regaining her composure, Serpens turned her attention to Varriden, nodding to the Lamia Scale mage.

"How was that?-de arimasu," She questioned, raising a single platinum blonde eyebrow.

Varriden nodded. "Understandable. I know I certainly didn't feel like shouting it from the rooftops when I didn't have any Archived techniques to my name," he said with a slight chuckle. "Everyone starts at a stage like that, so don't worry about it, they'll understand because we've all been there. Some advanced more quickly than others, yes, but in general, every mage had a period where magic was a bit of an energy-drainer for them. Heck, took time for me as well - you think casting summon magic is a drain, think about casting magic that isn't yours - adds a layer of complication when you're starting out," Varriden pointed out, though kindly.

Serpens spoke up, cutting of whatever thought Mallorie had been about to finish. "Ah, so it IS a shell of stone," Varriden said, walking over to kneel by the flower and gently touch one of the petals with a fingertip, poking it slightly. "I did wonder, when the flower just returned to normal with no ill effects. Usually transforming something organic into another material like that, aside from Takeover, has unfortunate effects on the subject if its own internal systems try to cope - it would be like trying to breathe if your lungs suddenly turned to stone and couldn't move. No way to compensate for it. Glad to see it leaves no harm to the one it's cast on." he added, standing back upright. "I can understand the need for a technique to discourage pursuit, having collected a few myself - camouflage, smokescreens, the like."

Next, Serpens showed off her other skill - pointing her spear at the water, she focused again, only this time her expression turned into a leer, as needles formed near her, then shot into the waters, causing a bubbling and slight color change that hinted that the effects of the needles were the main purpose - sure enough, the water had taken on toxic properties. "Impressive indeed." Varriden said, holding one hand over the toxic water and muttering a few words, a blue mist seeming to fall from his hand and mix with the toxic water, bubbling fiercely for a moment, and when the bubbling cleared, the water was purified, back to normal. Varriden glanced at the duo, his eyes back to normal now. "Thank you for sharing. I do appreciate it. Though if you like, I could show you how green the grass on the other side is - among my abilities that are mine alone and not borrowed from another, one is the ability to loan out some of my borrowed abilities to others. Would you like to give it a try, miss Mallorie?"

Varriden attempting to relate with Mallorie did, indeed, make her feel a bit more upbeat -- but she still held to the notion that she had a long ways to go. At this point, Mallorie couldn't do much against anything -- and every battle to her would be a proverbial struggle. She truly needed to try, or else she wouldn't get much of anywhere. At this point, there was no time to have any self pity -- not even an iota. There was no time for wallowing in her weakness. If she has an issue with it all, then she just needs to get stronger. Mallorie felt that abetting Varriden with cataloging Serpens' skills was doing just that. It was draining her, and she was on her last legs with keeping Serpens materialized. It was time for the Serpent to head back to her own world -- the Stellar Spirit world.

A world Mallorie hopes to visit someday.

"Well," She exhaled, placing her hands to her hips. "I hope we were of some service anyway," A small smile as small rivulets of sweat beaded down her forehead -- barely noticeable. With the sweltering air of Belladonna, coupled with the stress of Serpens' existence, it was high-time for Mallorie to return Serpens from whence she came. "Alright, Serpens. You did an awesome job! Now, it's time to return, okay?" She dictated, her hand moving outward and then inward, key to her chest. The Serpent Spirit nodded, bowed, and soon dissolved and dissipated, like oil within water, from the air. Small sparkles golden in color were left, and Mallorie almost immediately felt a bit better. The strain was still there, and Etheranos was now returning to her body, little by little.

Mallorie's eyes directed themselves to the blue-mist which Varriden espoused from his hand, purifying the water from any potential virulence. Her brows bobbed lightly as he did so, and Mallorie had to wonder if that was one of his Archived skills, or his own skill? Mallorie certainly knew that Archive mages were one of the most diverse -- but for one to have a skillset of their own was definitely a rarity. It was likely one of his Archived skills, though.

And then, Varriden asked of the unthinkable -- a test run involving Mallorie, plus magic she had never before used. If Mallorie recalled correctly, Archive magic not only stored magical spells for the Archive mage to use and study, but allowed the mage to transfer said spells and the exemplary know-how to another mage for a one-time use -- or a limited amount of time, depending on the spell. Would Mallorie choose to test out magic that wasn't her own? She wasn't sure -- and candidly, she had the right to be apprehensive. After all, she truly only knew about Stellar Spirit magic -- how it felt, the strain; it was all very familiar to her, and she felt safe even within it. But, magic she had never used before. . . Respiring profoundly, Mallorie paused.

Where would she get if she didn't take any risks?

"S-sure,"
She assented, clearing her throat again. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt. I'm a bit tired, but -- but uh, yeah. Go for it. Do what you need to do to help me cast a spell," She'd never cast magic on her own before -- sans summoning Serpens. The concept, the actual possibility, sent electricity through her arms and legs, making her feel like a lightning rod. Her nerves were all over the place, and she could feel her blood rushing through them at torrential speeds. Just what would the outcome of this test run be?

"Indeed you were," Varriden said with a nod. "Always helps me out greatly when a mage is willing to demonstrate their techniques for my Archive magic." And perhaps it was good that those two techniques were all that she had to share at that moment - he didn't note the single sweat droplet, but he did notice the momentary flicker of light reflecting off her face, which could only mean that it had been reflected of some kind of water running down her face, and she certainly wasn't crying right now. She wasn't kidding, Varriden thought. It really does seem to take alot out of her, but then again, she's essentially serving as the astral anchor for Serpens while she's out and about in the world. When Mallorie thanked her summon and dismissed her back to the stellar plane, you could see the weight lift from her shoulders - tension leaving her as some color returned to her face. At least the problem is one that can be solved with practice alone, Varriden thought. That's generally all it takes to improve your own stamina, especially with spellcasting.

When Varriden offered to return the favor of sharing spells, however, Mallorie hesitated briefly, then agreed, though with a bit of concern, that much was clear. Perhaps I should explain before I loan it out to her, Varriden thought. "If you're worried about exhausting yourself, you need not worry - when the spell is transferred, the energy to transfer the spell plays a secondary role as serving as the energy for the spell itself, so casting this won't put a drain on your own reserves. As for the magic itself, we'll go with one that you're familar with, just in case." Varriden held a hand out, palm facing upward, and a small green rune appeared over his palm, with an eye-like sigil in the middle, and a multitude of snake-like tendrils going from the center eye's edges to the outer edge of the design. It flew out of his hand and attached itself onto Mallorie's shoulder, and within seconds, the knowledge for the Medusa's Stone technique and how to cast it would appear in her brain, as if she had known all along and just forgotten how. "Go ahead, give it a try," Varriden said, gesturing to the same flower that Serpens had encased in stone and back again not moments ago.

Perhaps pegging Mallorie as the astral anchor for Serpens was putting it somewhat extremely -- but it was the most accurate description of it all. Over time, every second, every moment, every minute that passed, Mallorie felt her magic returning, slowly. This was good, after all. Regenerating her reserves was important if she wished to summon Serpens again for another round. But, in the mean time, she didn't need to summon the Serpent. For now, though, it was time to test magic out -- of her own! Sort of, at least. It wouldn't be her magic, and as Varriden explained, it wouldn't even be her magical reserves fueling it! Instead, it would be the energy which comes with the temporary knowledge. This was so exciting -- it felt as if lightning had just struck Mallorie and ignited her adrenaline, instead of killing her.

Then again, she doubted lightning would kill her immediately. . . Hopefully.

"Alright," She assented once more, nodding emphatically to signal that she understood his explication. After all, it wasn't all that complex. So, she stood there -- somewhat rigid, still a bit afraid. Despite all his efforts to pacify her fears, they were still there. Something always had the potential of going wrong, no matter how miniscule that possibility is. Inhaling and exhaling, Mallorie focused her attention on Varriden, and what he would do next. Magic she was already familiar with, he said? What could she-- Ah, yes, Serpens' spells then? At first, Mallorie thought he meant Summoning, but he wouldn't be able to copy Summoning magic.

The blue sigil popped into existence and offered its power to Varriden, snake-like tendrils shaped like snake heads hissed toward Mallorie's shoulder, and melted into her body. In seconds, all kinds of information was foisted onto Mallorie as her eyes went momentarily blank. She gasped and she knew -- she knew how Serpens did it. She knew why Serpens did it. She knew what she was going to do, and she didn't even need the slightest assistance nor dictation. She nodded to Varriden, pursing her lips and focusing on the flower which Serpens had fossilized before. Respiring profoundly once more, she outstretched her hand. The reptilian and green magic seal popped into existence inches from her hand once more, vacillating between natural hues, illuminated with the energy which she was granted to cast the spell.

The flower turned to stone, and then the encasement fell apart, crumbling into nothing.

Mallorie gave Varriden a slight smile, and soon, the ability to cast the spell fled her mind -- though she still felt like she knew what to do, even though she didn't know how to.

"How was that?"
