Thankfully, Lib saw Varriden's silent warning that he was about to use a spell, and the bandits themselves didn't intervene in that instant, as they were briefly stunned by the appearance of Ray from the depths of the sword blade. Once Lib jumped into the air and grabbed Ray's tail to remain airborne - much to Ray's irritation, if his roar was any hint - Varriden used his blade to send an earthquake through the ground with the power of the runes on his blade behind it, knocking all of the bandits off their feet - with the exception of the leader, who apparently didn't miss the unspoken signal and wisely chose to leap into the air at the same time that Varriden slammed his blade into the ground to cause the earthquake. Perceptive fellow, Varriden thought, pulling his blade out of the earth to brandish it once more. Lib was okay, as was Ray, but she seemed to have issues with the amount of time in advance that Varriden gave her, while also noting that Ray wasn't the type to be left out of the action. "Fine by me, I certainly don't mind some backup when I'm outnumbered," Varriden said, slashing sideways at one of the approaching bandits who had managed to get back on their feet, knocking their blade to one side as Varriden kicked him in the stomach, making him wheeze and fall over, to the opposite side of the sword he dropped, luckily for him. More bandits were getting up from the fall from the localized earthquake, one approaching Varriden from the side. As the bandit lunged toward Varriden, blade extended, Varriden side-stepped the blade and palm thrust the bandit's gut - as he did, a blue rune flashed on the back of his hand, and the bandit went flying backward into his buddies, who were still trying to get their bearings, bowling them over in a big pile. |

The bandit leader was looking at everything around him, taking in the information and deciding on the best course of action. It seemed that sheer numbers would just be enough to stall for time, so the question was, could he defeat his opponent before his pawns were defeated themselves? As he thought about this, he looked at the flying serpent wreaking havoc above him, then at the white haired man behind him, and finally at the charging woman before him. He reached a conclusion and prepared himself to carry out his plan. Lib was running at her foe, but could not fail to notice he did not seem to be focusing on her. Something was on his mind, and Lib thought that maybe, he still had something up his sleeve. Normally this would be a time where she would play it on the safe side, but then again, offense is the best defense, so she imbued herself with Wind Claws and rushed her target with Wind Runner. She was going to either force his hand or overpower him completely. As she reached her target, merely 2 meters separated the two now, Lib stomped her foot forward, coming to a sudden stop slightly beyond the range of any concealable melee weapon, even leaving her target beyond the range of her own, and with her free hand fired Wind Blast. At this range, it would be nearly impossible to react to a change from a melee to ranged attack. Or so she thought, as her enemy vanished before her own eyes, leaving her attack to hit nothing at all... well she caught some of the bandits were not paying attention on the back. Lib was confused as she could not have predicted anyone would have the kind of skill to react at such high speed, much less disappear from sight like that. Lib was about to scan her surroundings, when a she heard a something that left her even more confused. "I SURRENDER!", screamed a voice coming from below. Lib looked down as saw the man she had targeted, bowing down with his head firmly planted on the ground. "Wha-?" Could it be a trick? Lib wasn't sure, but it was far too easy to hit him where he stood, and she couldn't really bring herself to attack someone that was... no this man was a leader of a bandit group, surely there had to be a catch to what he was doing. "DON'T PLAY GAMES WITH ME!", Lib shouted. "PLEASE! DON'T KILL ME!", the man replied. Lib was astonished, and completely blow away from the current events. Needless to say, what had just transpired had caught the attention of everyone around, causing most bandits to freeze on the spot as if trying to understand themselves what had just happened. The rest was too busy running away from Ray who didn't seem to notice, or care, about the current situation. Lib looked back at Varriden, as if asking for help as she was simply unaware if this was a normal occurrence in this country. Varriden was busy clashing with the other bandits, so he was a bit too busy to catch every detail of the ongoing fight between Libbier and the leader of the Bandits - though it was impossible to miss when she or Ray fires off magic of their own - and Varriden was doing fairly well, despite the being outnumbered - there were alot more bandits than there were defenders - a whopping two - but it was a case of quality versus quantity, and the quality side belonged to the mages of the group. Varriden was lashing out left and right - given the number of the bandits, Varriden could land a hit by lashing out in just about any direction. He paused, however, after blasting aside another group of bandits, when he heard a yell - he glanced up at Libbier, only to see her looking down - following her line of sight, he saw the bandit leader on the ground - not defeated, but seeming to have lost his will to fight, as he was screaming that he didn't want to die. Varriden glanced at Libbier, who looked just as confused as Varriden himself was. This didn't seem like the same guy who had been calling the shots until now, and it seemed an odd moment to suddenly throw in the towel. Varriden's brow furrowed slightly in thought. If he's so willing to give up, then by all means, let's take advantage of that, Varriden thought. A metal vambrace appeared on Varriden's arm with a chain leading into the ground - a moment later, the chain sprang from the ground around the bandit leader, attempting to ensnare him in chains to capture him. |

Lib was dumbfounded by what just happened, to the point that she even failed to noticed wind claws subside from lack of focus. This 'leader' turned out to be a weak pain in the neck at best, no where near the exciting foe she was expecting. Not that anyone could have predicted what had just transpired in the least. Even the bandits closer to him appeared as having no clue on what was going on. Well, at least those who could afford the time, as Ray simply ignored, missed the event and continued to attack everyone, or in most likelihood, Ray was simply too into the fight to care at all. Lib stood in front of the 'leader', when a chain showed up next him. She looked instinctively at Varriden, only to see the same magical pattern that the 'leader' now had underneath himself. Whatever it was, it would end the battle before it had a chance to begin. And Lib couldn't have that. A raging wind was unleashed by Lib, furious at what was now a pretty much won battle. This almost sent the 'leader' flying, if not for Varridens chain he would most certainly do so. She had nothing to get from this but still. Even Ray was having more fun at the moment with all the bandit's grunts he dealt with. Even so, between traitors and unconscious bandits, the battlefield looked almost like a triage outpost, with people lying on the floor with a multi plitude of different injuries. "Get up!", Lib said before grabbing the man by the arm to pull him up, "GET UP!" Lib was furious, her eyes blinded with rage and her mind clouded by anger. She wasn't going to simply kill someone who did not want to fight. But she could beat the shit out of him, Ray was pretty much already doing that with the grunts. So Lib was going to enjoy torturing this guy... unless someone stopped her. |

Varriden's chains encircled the man, seeming to be successful in containing him, as the bandit leader was offering little to no resistance as the chains coiled around his body and tied him up. Why would he go through all the trouble of launching an attack this size on an encampment, only to fall over and beg to be spared he encounters some noteworthy resistance? Varriden wondered. This seems far too easy, there has to be some reason or motive we're unaware of here. Before Varriden could do more than finish tying the man up, a sudden gust of wind blasted the man off his knees and face-down into the ground, and would have blasted away the chains had Varriden not finished linking them up beforehand. Varriden looked up to see Libbier glaring down at the leader, her face sporting a wrathful expression. "I know he's done some bad things, but blasting him when he's already trussed up like a turkey is a bit overkill, I think." Varriden pointed out. When she descended to grab the man's arm and demand he get to his feet, however, Varriden's eyes narrowed, and he adjusted his hands slightly, and one of the loose chains wound around Libbier's free arm. "Libbier! That's enough." Varriden said sharply. "We stopped the attack and captured the leader, so the fighting is done, especially if one side no longer wants to fight back." Varriden was looking sternly at Libbier as he said this, as if asking if she was really going to persist with this. |

When Varriden talked about the fact that Lib was overdoing it when she used wind's rage that close to the bandit when there was no need for it, Lib was simply not listening, or if she did she wouldn't care about it anyway. It was almost as if she was a bull seeing red, this coward had pumped her full of expectations about the fight, only crush them by giving up. Lib couldn't have that, not after that first time this guy ran away today. It was as if both her mind, pride and anger were shouting the same thing in unison. And then Lib felt a pull on her arm. she expected to see the bandit struggling in some way, but instead she saw Varriden's chain. Finally, Lib was once again capable of listening what was going on around her, and she did hear Varriden telling her to stop. Her glare turned from the bandit to her ally, as he mentioned what had been done, and that there was no reason to continue fighting. "Done? Enough? Who decided that? And who wants prisoners anyway.", Lib said. Ray, sensing a new target from its owner, turned and growled at Varriden, clearly prepared to lunged at him. Ray wasn't one to ignore a good foe, and even this former ally had show potential. The growl turned deeper as Lib's glare continued. As if realizing what was going on Ray's mind, Lib's mind cleared, released from her anger and once again capable of thinking rationally. Lib face showed panic momentarily has she became aware of what she was doing, and then shame. "I'm sorry.", Lib said has she pushed the bandit back and turned around to face Ray, "Ray... go back." Ray stopped as instructed, but almost returned to what it was doing before a stern 'Now!' from Lib caused him to snarl in frustration before going back to Crescent Blade. Lib looked at the chain on her arm, then back at Varriden. "I suppose you want to question him or something?" |

At first, Libbier didn't seem to notice the chain wound around her arm, but after a moment, she seemed to realize it was there, and who was in control of it. She heard his words, and understood them, but unfortunately, she didn't seem to care, claiming she had no plans to take prisoners. "There isn't a person who decides that, it's the flow of the battle that determines that," Varriden said sternly, "Alot of things happen during a fight, but once the fight is over, you don't continue to lash out at your foe, especially if your foe no longer has the will to fight! It's moral distinctions like that that make the difference between us and people like them," Varriden said, gesturing to the bandit leader, "Who lash out at others with no concern for their well-being!" The words just didn't get through to her, and worse, her summon from the sword seemed to be picking up on the clash of ideals, or at least that Varriden's chain was trying to restrain Libbier, as the giant serpent turned its head towards Varriden, growling at him. Bad enough I have to try and restrain Libbier, but dealing with them both at the same time, while still holding onto this guy, Varriden thought, sparing a glance at the bound bandit leader, is going to be nigh impossible. Thankfully, around that time was the same moment that Libbier seemed to return to her senses, her face expressing several different emotions in rapid succession, then something akin to sorrow or shame as she apologized and let go of the bandit leader, Varriden letting the chain around her arm slide loose and vanish as Libbier told Ray to return to the blade, which he did - if with some reluctance. When asked what his plans for the bandit leader were, Varriden merely replied, "Nothing of the sort. He attacked us first, but he's done more wrong to these merchants than he has to us. I'll let them interrogate him and get information out of him." |

Lib looked at her arm as the chains vanished, both ashamed and frustrated by her actions. Now more than ever she needed to let out some steam. Varriden seemed to want to leave the leader to the merchant guild to deal with. "I guess, that's acceptable.", Lib replied. His reasoning was valid but even so that didn't made her feel any better. This had to be the most anti-climatic ending to a fight she ever experienced. But then again, the leader might have surrendered, but there were still plenty of bandits around and Ray was no longer dealing with them. Lib looked around. Those had not ran yet, were standing still as much confused as Lib was. "If you, any of you, are feeling like you can do better than your boss, PLEASE, step forward. I don't need you to know how to fight, but I really need something that can take a punch right now." The bandits exchanged looks with each other and soon enough they scattered to the winds, or at least the ones that managed to, as the merchants had regrouped and were now beginning to mount a counteroffensive of their own. Needless to say, between the ones injured and the ones captured by the merchants, only a handful managed to escape in the end. It was safe to say this bandit group was eliminated rather fast, but considering their leader's performance, not too surprising. After all, bandits are usually cowards that prey on the weak. "Why did I even bothered hoping they would fair any better.", Lib sighed. The merchant approached both her and Varriden, but Lib was rather stressed so she would let Varriden do the talking. |

For the briefest of moments, Varriden worried that Libber would change her mind, or worse, choose to volunteer for the 'interrogation', but thankfully she seemed to return to her senses once again - albeit with a lesser distance to double back over this time - and agreed to the idea. Varriden had heard about things like this in some warriors. Granted, there were always some who wanted to punish those who they thought were insufferable and against everything their sense of justice stood for, and there were those who, in their anger, would lose their reason for a short time, lashing out when it wasn't needed, or after it was no longer needed. Then there was something altogether - a term he'd heard some of the guards back at the Academy refer to as "Bloodrage". A fury that ran so deep that it made a warrior a juggernaut of force and rage, but blind to reason....and friend versus foe. Libbier didn't appear to have it, but i she didn't guard her fury in fights, she might be closer than she would like down the road. Libbier, if Varriden was being honest, didn't look very satisfied by the ending of the grand fight, but given what had nearly occurred, Varriden would gladly leave it at that, and Libbier too, with some reluctance. Though she offered the remaining bandits the chance to fight, though it was clear both in her open explanation and her tone that she just wanted to vent what was left of her frustrations, hoping someone would be willing to fight, and thus a valid target. Obviously, no one came forward, leaving Libbier without much in the way of options when the remaining bandits fled into the woods. As the merchant walked over, Varriden took one look at Libbier's face and realized he would be doing the debriefing of what had happened. "Looks like it's over," Varriden said, re-sheathing his greatsword onto the holster on his back. "The attack is over and I don't think the bandits will risk attacking again, not with their leader captured and begging for his life," Varriden said, gesturing to the bound form at his feet, still wrapped in Varriden's chains. "So I think your camp is safe for now. At the very least, long enough to patch up your tents and your wounded, I would think." |

Lib made her way to the edge of the forest, to where the bandits escaped, the ones that could at least. She needed to cool off and talking wasn't going to help, at least not this time, so Lib gained as much distance as she could from the merchants and Varriden. She did hear Varriden reassuring the merchants, but the voice was soon to far to clearly understand what was being said. With Crescent Blade on one hand, Lib leaned on a tree as she saw the bandits run at a distance where she could barely manage to actually notice them between the foliage. Lib stood there watch, and soon she was no longer able to see any of them. She gripped her weapon, her frustration rising once again, and soon, she had imbued her weapon with Wind Claws once again. "AAAHHHH!", she cried in frustration as she turned to and, with a swift horizontal swing of her weapon, cleaved the tree she was leaning on a few moments ago. The tree slowly began to tilt, and soon it was falling landing with a loud noise on the side opposite to Lib, who was now trying to vent the remaining frustration with deep breaths. She stood there next to the fallen tree, breathing heavily, with her weapon tightly held with both her hands. After a few moments, her breath began to return to normal, as she closed her eyes and leaned herself against another tree. "Is this what my training as a hunter culminated with?", Lib muttered to herself, then adding with a sad smile, "I'm hunting trees now?" Lib looked to the sky, between the smoke from the put out fires, she could see it was still the same beautiful day as before. Edited by LibertyGear, Dec 18 2016, 05:04 AM.
