At first, Libbier didn't say much of anything, just crossing her arms as she appeared to ponder something for a long moment. Likely on whether or not she's okay with the idea of me copying her techniques, Varriden thought. Maybe I should have mentioned this before the bandits attacked, but I could have hardly predicted that would happen. Guess circumstances just weren't in my favor. Not like I could tap her on the shoulder and ask during the fight. Thankfully, she decided that is was alright that he tried to copy her magic while fighting the bandits, as long as she herself suffered no backlash from the attempt. "The method I use doesn't have any downsides for the one I'm copying the magic from - aside from the fact that they have to use the magic in order for me to witness it and copy it, that is." Varriden said. Though if those bandits fled to the hills, it's entirely possible that I might not get enough views to finish noting the techniques, Varriden thought to himself. A pity that so many mages seem to want to require a serious use for their techniques before they'll unveil them. Varriden nodded at Libbier wanting to be done with the serious questions, and followed her to the weapon stall. While Libbier looked over the weapons on display, Varriden was dissuading the weapon shop keeper from trying to buy his sword or trade for it. "I'm flattered that you seem to value it so, but it's not for sale, I'm afraid, and I'm not trading, either. This was a gift, and it cannot be replaced." Varriden said to the shopkeep. |

Lib was having more fun than she ever thought she would. Is this what people call window shopping? Whatever it was, she was enjoying it. The same couldn't be said about her usual companion who had once again become completely dormant, the excitement of battle already far away in time. Her other, more recent, friend was also walking around. It was when Lib decided to return from her speedy window shopping that she noticed he was having another kind of trouble. The shopkeeper was trying to buy his sword, and Varriden was trying to tell him it was not for sale. "He seems to really want that sword.", Lib said with an amused tone. Not sooner had Lib finished talking, the merchant noticed her own sword and immediately began bargaining for it. "Oh wow. Me and my big mouth.", Lib laughted, "Sorry, but my sword is not for sale either. And believe me, it would be more trouble than it's worth." In the meanwhile, in the woods close to the Guild of Wishes, there was a concentration of a group of hooded men. They numbered around fifty, but there was handfull of them who were clearly above the others. The five men wore red hoods, and were discussing the recent events. "And that's what we are going to do.", said the one who appeared to be the leader. "Are you sure about this?", asked one of the others. "Yes. We have already stayed here long enough, the merchants were starting to suspect something was wrong anyway, so this has only speed up the time we moved to greener pastures." "Very well.", said a third, "We will support your decision." "Good, but remember, don't kill too many merchants. Who knows, we may be able to return someday to start this again.", finished the leader with a wide grin. With that said, the large group began to move. It's destination, the Guild of Wishes current location. Edited by LibertyGear, Jul 31 2016, 09:25 PM.

"Indeed he does," Varriden said to Lib, before turning back to the shopkeeper. "And while your persistence in acquiring new goods is admirable, there is no payment or promise that will get me to part company with this sword of mine. As I said before, it's a gift. So please, just let the subject drop. Perhaps I could browse your wares, instead?" The shopkeeper seemed a bit disheartened when Varriden turned him down flat for the sword, but brightened when Varriden basically volunteered himself as a potential customer. Unfortunately, Lib was mistaken in speaking up, as it only caused the shopkeeper to notice her own unique weaponry and begin trying to pawn it off of her. "To be honest, you probably should have seen that one coming," Varriden pointed out with a faint smile. Once Lib had managed to convince the merchant that her own blade was off-limits as well, Varriden followed the merchant back to his own tent, ducking through the flap to see a few stands of a smaller size set up inside, with baskets full of various goods, both magical and non. The lacrima one caught Varriden's eye, and he walked up and began digging through the basket, looking at one lacrima after another, asking the merchant a question occasionally about the nature of some of the lacrima and if any of them had a spell already bound within them, or if that was a separate basket altogether. "So, Lib, anything caught your eye yet?" Varriden asked, as he suspected Libbier hadn't had much interaction in markets, by nature of living in a village that was somewhat remote. |

Varriden didn't take long at all to see the funny side of what had just happened, and Lib couldn't blame him, she found it funny as well. "Yeah.", Lib said with a smile, "I should have kept quiet... that's karma." Going back to the shopping thing, although Lib was not really finding anything worth her time, it was certainly funny to look at all the different stuff there was in the store. Varriden also seemed to be immersed in the browsing, up to the point he asked Lib if she had found anything she was interested in. "Nah.", she replied, "I'm not really that into buying stuff myself, since I mostly hunt or craft the stuff I need... well, except for my sword and armor since they were given to me. Although, I do enjoy looking at all this different stuff." The group of hooded bandits approached the area where the guild of wishes was situated. Thru a number of signals and planned coordination, they surrounded the area silently. Every group with a purpose, every group ready to do whatever it took, every group of ten lead by one of the five leaders. The groups were all made out of six bandits equipped with a daggers and swords, while the other four were armed with bows and arrows. All were now on their planned location, and a signal was given that made the archer's aim their bows while another bandit lit the tip of the arrow on fire. Another signal was given, and a rain of fire fell upon the guild of wishes. |

Lib seemed to see the humor in the situation, at least. "Well, given the size of the blade, it would have been a rather tall order to try and keep it hidden. No pun intended," Varriden added with a slight chuckle. As he looked for items for his own interests, however, like lacrima and other magical trinkets, he checked to see how Lib was faring, as checking out the market out here had originally been his idea, and he wanted to be sure that he wasn't just dragging her along for the ride. She seemed to enjoy the experience of just browsing around and window shopping, though, so that was a plus. Varriden paused, however, when he heard a few shouts outside, ones that sounded fairly panicked, followed by the faint sound of whistling, like some sort of projectile. Varriden ran out of the tent and looked up to see arrows raining down towards the guild of wishes, ones tipped with fire, no less, which would prove disastrous on multiple levels for the traders, as it was unlikely that all of their tents were fireproof, and even if they were, the grass certainly wasn't. Looks like telling the merchants about the bandits was a good move, Varriden thought. I hope they set up a defense of some kind, because arrows won't be the end of this. Varriden shifted his stance and placed both hands together, then drew them apart, creating a spiraling shuriken of water between his hands, nearly a meter wide, which he hurled into the air. The shuriken cut through the arrows directly over Varriden and a few nearby tents, but that wasn't the goal. Once it was high enough, Varriden deliberately let the shuriken fall apart, the water spinning in every direction from the technique's momentum and dousing the fires that had started, as well as a number of other fire arrows that were still in-bound. "Libbier, I think our friends from the woods are back!" Varriden called, his eyes still on the sky, keeping an eye out for more incoming arrows. |

Listening to Varriden made Lib chuckle as well. Still it was something that she had been thinking about for a while, cause no matter how good a weapon is, if u do not have somewhere to store it, and have instead to carry it around in hand, it will simply tire the user... unless the user is fit enough and knows a few tricks to work around it, like the most effective and advanced one, leaning the weapon onto a wall. "Yeah, well.", Lib started after Varriden finished, "I doubt anyone likes having a small house." Lib dropped that one as a clue trying to see if Varriden would guess the nature of her weapon's special effect. But before there was a chance of anything, screams were heard. Varriden was quick to react and rushed out side, Lib following shortly after. She arrived fast enough to see the arrows land and start a wide spread fire. It was not hard to guess the source of the attack, as Varriden soon came to the same conclusion. "Yes.", Lib replied to Varriden with a clear disdain towards the methods being used in this attack, "Seems they are determined to cause damage over stealing this time. That or they have turned from thieves to plain bullies." Lib was a hunter, she believed that life and death were connected, be it prey or predator, all meet their end, so normally she would be emotionally neutral to stuff like this. However, the bandits were simply doing damage aimlessly, certainly with some objective in mind, like smoking the best targets out, but again, it was a method Lib never thought to be respectful to the lives or deaths of others. If they wanted to attack then they should do so with a clear intent to kill. If this went on, the people of the guild of wishes that survived would have their lively hood destroyed, and would take far too long to recover. "If they intend to come of us, they better do it fast.", Lib continued as she stepped forwards to raise a shield, with anger rising in her voice, but she wasn't blinded by it... yet, "Varriden, can you help contain the fire with that water magic you used before? I will try doing something about the incoming volleys." Positioning herself to better cover the market, Lib raised her Wind Wall, blocking any incoming arrows from that side, turning her attention to the other side afterwards. The moment she saw arrows once again go up, she unleashed a raging blast of wind* knocking the arrows back. Should the bandits chose to keep this course of action, she would become seriously pissed off. A sentiment that seemed to be affecting Ray, as her sword slowly but surely began to vibrate, as his eagerness to fight increased. Varriden didn't understand what a small house had to do with keeping a blade concealed, so he assumed it must have something to do with his pun about height. I'm guessing she means that being shorter would mean having a smaller house, which no one would really be a fan of, Varriden thought. Though I didn't expect her to pass over the remark about her blade being difficult to conceal in favor of the height quip. But given her considerable height, I suppose I can't exactly fault her for that one. Further conversation was interrupted by the bandits, Varriden dousing the first volley of fire arrows by letting a Maelstrom Shruiken fly apart, which had the added bonus of soaking the nearby buildings and grass, which would make it very difficult to set them alight with a flaming arrow, should a second volley follow the first, and Varriden suspected it might, as anyone trying to set something on fire, but only bothering to try it once, was either very under-prepared, or very confident in their first attempt. "Likely a bit of both," Varriden said to Lib's assessment. "They're still after the goods, no doubt, but I'm guessing they're trying to set fire to the place in order to cause chaos, so that when the traders and merchants scramble to protect their stuff or get out of harm's way, they'll drop their guard and make it easier for things to get stolen. Even if a portion of the supplies get roasted in the flames, the loss would be deemed acceptable by them, most likely, if it meant that they were able to near-freely loot an entire trading outpost." Libbier drew her sword properly, telling Varriden that she could handle the bandits if he could take care of the flames. "I can deal with the flames, yes, but make sure the bandits don't get the drop on me - keeping tabs on the flames to prevent them from spreading is going to require a good deal of attention." Varriden said, summoning an orb of water that stretched out into a short river of water in the air, whipping his hand forward to send it streaming through two patches of flame on nearby tents, extinguishing them with a short hiss of steam. "Try not to kill them if you can help it - while you don't seem the type to slay out of convenience, we should interrogate one of them to make sure they aren't part of a larger bandit gang. Unlikely, but better to make sure." Edit: Note that Decipher is active on this post. Edited by Balmung6, Dec 13 2016, 02:04 AM.

Lib listened to what Varriden said, although her will to follow thru with the no killing part was decreasing with every passing second, it was not like she hated the hell out of this bandits, so she could try and avoid vitals. Well, at least for now, as she might not feel like that still, if they keep shooting these kind arrows aimlessly. "I will try.", she replied, "I cannot promise much if they keep fighting us like this." As if guessing the current state of Libs mind, a bandit, clearly not the usual kind, came out of hiding, clapping his hands in the progress. "Very good.", the man that Lib now recognized as the one that had interrupted in the first fight, "You have not failed to impress me yet." "I'm glad.", Lib replied, then added while pointing towards the burning buildings, "I can't say the same about all this." The bandit looked around, taking the destruction in, then raised his shoulders and said, "Perils of the trade. You need to be pretty ruthless sometimes, in pursuit great profit of course. And the swords of both you and your friend do look nice.", as he said this, the other four appeared behind him, "I hope you won't mind." Lib laughed, they wanted Ray's 'home', how weird was that. Not to mention they were investing a lot to get it too. However, they were not just after Crescent Blade, they seemed interested in Varriden as well, as the bandits were now circling both him and Lib while she was focused on the leaders and Varriden was focused on the fires. Their idea was most likely to charge at them both sooner rather than latter. "I'm speechless.", not too long ago she was hinting her sword secret to Varriden, although she never expected something like this. Moreover, they were trying to get past her with numbers to get to Varriden, "Well. I do not need to tell you that you need to take it from me by force." The bandit smiled and raised his hand as if to signal everyone to attack, at which Lib raised her hand. "Oh, wait a second. I only really want to fight with the guy talking.", Lib raised her sword, "So you folk can keep my friend occupied in the meantime." As she finished, a bright light and a burst of wind rushed out from the sword, and in that split second, a large body appeared in the sky. Lib looked at Varriden, with a 'what do you think?' look on her face, as Ray roared while staring down the group of men. Edited by LibertyGear, Oct 5 2016, 01:59 AM.

Libbier seemed to understand Varriden's instructions for the fight that was unfolding, though it was clear from her expression that the 'try not to kill anyone' part was the bit of it that she had some issues with. When she said no promises, Varriden sighed and said "Then at least leave one of them alive so we can find out what their goal here is, or if there are other members in this group of theirs - last thing we need is to fend off this attack, only for the second half of their group to attack a few hours from now." As he spoke with Libbier, another bandit emerged from between two scorched tents nearby - not attacking, though, as he didn't have a weapon in hand, because his hands were busy clapping, applauding the two of them, saying he was impressed, though his wording piqued Varriden's interest. "The way you say that implies you've been watching us for awhile...meaning you were also there during that scuffle in the forest earlier," Varriden noted. Libbier told the fellow that the feeling wasn't mutual, after their display thus far. After speaking of perils, the bandit seemed to take note of their swords. "Sorry, but I'm not parting with my sword, and I think my friend here is going to say the same. The merchants wanted to get their hands on it, too, but at least they were willing to pay accordingly for it. You're just trying to steal it outright. Not that I expected much else from a bandit." The other bandits surrounded them slowly, but Libbier claimed she only wanted to fight the leader, and that her 'friend' would handle the rest of them. For a moment, Varriden thought she was trying to drop the bulk of the work onto his shoulders, until she raised her sword and a serpentine beast of some kind snaked out of it and into the air, almost as long as a school bus and alot less friendly-looking. "I knew something was odd about that blade!" Varriden said with a slight chuckle. "Glad that's what you meant, though - for a second, I thought you were trying to let me handle literally everyone else but the leader. Still, I want to do my part in this battle," Varriden said as he reversed his grip on his greatsword so he was holding it with both hands, mouthing the word 'jump' to Libbier, "So I hope your big green friend up there doesn't mind sharing!" Varriden slammed his greatsword point-first into the earth as the runes along it lit up, as an earthquake raged through the nearby ground, which would throw everyone who wasn't airborne (except Varriden) onto their backsides. |

Lib could tell everyone was surprised by Ray appearing out of no where, which was rather amusing, but other than the grunts, most of the bandits held their line, shaken but rather composed for someone who had just been told they were the targets of the flying wyvern. This was unexpected, however, it only meant that they were just your average highwaymen, which for Lib was rather pleasant, cause she would hate to have them try to run so soon. Varriden also seemed to have been expecting something of the sort, as he expressed his relief for not being the one Lib meant when she mentioned who was going to take everyone, besides the leader, on a trip to hellish pain. Not only that, Varriden immediately began making his move, giving Lib only but a quick warning before launching an attack thru the very ground they were standing. Having no clear knowledge of the kind of attack Varriden was about to use, Lib jumped as instructed, but to grab onto Ray's tail, who roared in disapproval. The bandits however, were all caught by surprise and hit by the full brunt of the attack. Well, all but the leader who did not miss Varriden's limp movement and pretty much reacted at the same time as Lib, hence avoiding the attack in its entirety. Lib whistled in amazement, as she hanged from Ray's tail, before Ray turned to her with a glare. "What? You're a big boy, don't tell me you can't handle my lil'old weight.", she said in a joking tone, before letting go and turning to Varriden, "Wow man, you really need to give me a better heads up next time. And... well, Ray can have a bit of a childish behavior from time to time, so I wouldn't count on him just letting you have fun by yourself." As she said this, Ray lunged forwards, straight at the leader, who dodged the attack, although barely, and was now holding a throwing dagger to retaliate. Lib raised her weapon and once again used it in a way it normally isn't used. The way she held it was more akin to a bow, and when a arrow made of light was created, no one would think otherwise. With quick reflexes, Lib fired the arrow to intercept the flying dagger. "HEY!", she shouted as she rushed to met the leader in melee combat, "I will be your opponent." Ray was now about to engage the other higher ranked bandits, as his previous rush was not to attack the leader, but to cut a straight line to his own targets. |
