Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Varriden turned as he heard a noise, just as the second of the two bandits he'd dealt with fell to his greatsword's hilt winding him. A new bandit had rushed from the brush nearby. Odd for him to wait so long to attack, Varriden thought. Surely there were at least one or two moments before now where he could have tried to launch some kind of surprise attack against the two of us. Even if he was holding off on attacking me because of the shield, Libbier DID run outside of the shield's range near the start of the fight.

Libbier swung at the new opponent, but he didn't seem interested in her at all, though he did take the time to trip her up with a sweep of his leg. When he rose, Varriden expected him to turn to him - one didn't run by an opponent and trip them, only to double back and turn their back to another foe altogether. Though he had expected an arrow or a blade strike, even a kick, not a hurling of powder towards his eyes, Varriden whipping his head away and holding his breath as the powder hit his face, not wanting to breathe it in by accident - god knows what the powder was actually meant to do, given its color.

A moment later, arrows rained down - not at them, but at the ground, which promptly burst into smoke - when it cleared, the bandits were gone, both the new ones and the ones that had already been felled. Varriden didn't answer her question immediately, as he reached up and tapped the side of his face twice with his palm, and two lenses of water - with red powder swimming in them - fell from his eyes and splashed on the ground - Varriden's Clear Lens technique, used just before the powder hit. "Damn close," Varriden muttered. "But nah, let's leave them be. Goodness knows which direction they went. We can just let the people at the guild of wishes know, just in case they're planning something big, or get a little too bold."

"Yeah, I guess so.", Lib answered, "Other than that last guy, the other did not seem to be that strong, so I guess there is no worth in hunting them down anyway."

Well, not knowing the direction where the bandits had escaped was not entirely true... well it was for Lib and Varriden, but Lib could feel her weapon vibrate, as if Ray was telling her to either chase them down or let him do it. Lib didn't expect Ray to be that interested in the bandits as much as he was on the red hooded one. The vibration had been going for a while now, and was now actually strong enough that someone with sharp eyes could easily notice it. Lib actually had to tap her sword on the ground with a fair amount of strength a few times to make Ray stop.

"Well, let's go then.", Lib said ignoring Ray's wishes, "I don't think it will take us that long to reach the market. We have been walking for quite a while now."

The bandits were on the run, but unlike everyone else, the red hooded bandits did not have a defeated look on his face. Infact, it looked more like the face of some kid who had found something worth to play with.

"You guys!", he shouted to two of the archers from the ambush, and two of the only that could still run without support, then added with a wicked smile, "Spread out and gather the crew. We have a new mark that is bound to turn a good profit."

The two bandits nodded in agreement and turned into different directions. No doubt they would take time to complete the order, but not too long. Their prey would have at least time to browse the guild of Wishes stores, and then the final clash would begin, and the red hooded bandit did not intend to lose a second time against the same target.

"Not really, no, as I doubt they carry around their stolen goods with them, so we wouldn't even be able to recover anything they stole if we did chase them down. The strong one did get away, but even he can't be a threat to the Guild of Wishes all by himself. And it's unlikely that his fellow bandits will be ready for another attack, so soon after losing a fight like that. Maybe not from injuries, perhaps, but from morale at least, I would think." Varriden said, placing his sword back upon his own back as he let his spells fade, the water shield splashing to the ground and spreading across the grass and the roots of a nearby tree. Hasn't rained recently, so the plants can probably use the water anyway, Varriden thought.

As he turned his attention from the water back to Lib, he noticed her tapping the ground with her sword - for a moment, he thought she was just impatient to be off, or to hunt the bandits down, but then he noticed that the blade seemed to be shaking far too much for the speed and force she'd used to tap it against the ground - as if it was shaking of its own accord. "Is something off with your sword?" Varriden said, peering at the blade from where he was standing. "Seems like it's....well, shaking, almost."

"But you are right, we've tallied long enough dealing with those thieves. We should keep moving." Varriden said, turning towards the Guild of Wishes and beginning to walk, avoiding the patch where his water shield had splashed down, as it was already a bit mud-like on the surface. "When we get there, we can let whoever's in charge know about the unsavory characters wandering through the woods, though it might - unfortunately - cause them to up and move their camp, in the worst-case scenario, so if you see something that catches your eye once we arrive, I would recommend getting it today."

OOC: Yep, got the two techs you used ^^

"Erm...", Lib was caught off guard, as she didn't expect Varriden to notice it at the time, "Well, I do have an explanation for it...", Lib wondered if she should let her secret out, "Tell you what. If we meet those bandits again, I will gladly tell you. Or rather, I will show you.", She finally said with a smile.

Then as Varriden agreed, Lib freed her sword from the ground and followed after him, completely ignoring and walking over the puddle he had left behind. Her boots may have gotten dirty, but being a trained hunter, so having even the slightest dirt and or scent from the place she currently stood, was more of a positive thing than a bother.

Carrying her sword along had always felt more of a chore than anything else, if Lib could be honest. She expected to have been able to find an easier way to carry it, but, much like herself, her sword was rather large when compared to others, not to mention its unconventional shape. Lib wouldn't have minded to have a more simple shaped sword, like Varriden. Still, considering the perks that came attached to Crescent Blade, Lib was more than happy to have it. Her arms were another story however.

Lib then realized something, or better, she took notice of something.

"That spell you used previously.", she started, "That was a water shield of some kind, right? Are you a water mage?"

It felt somewhat weird, and at the same time refreshing, because recently she had been doing a lot of things with Suijin, or even bumping into him in places as random as the middle of the desert. Considering the nature of his magic, having found herself fighting a new random enemy at the side of another water mage felt too much of a coincidence.

Libbier seemed surprised at Varriden's question, but Varriden's suspicion hadn't been wrong, there was a reason her sword seemed to be slightly moving of its own accord. She said it would be easier to show than tell, though, but preferred to keep it in reserve in case they ran into the bandits again. "Fair enough, though I admit to some curiosity." Varriden said.

As they walked, Libbier made an inquiry of her own - Varriden's spellwork. Not surprising she would assume him a water mage, since the only two spells he had used had involved water. "A good guess, but no, actually. I'm an Archive mage. I use spells by observing spells cast by other mages and then replicating them, though my own copies aren't as efficient as those of the original mage. The one I learned that shield from was actually a Water Dragon slayer, and I'd wager he could use the shield more often than I do, and likely has more practice with it."

Just as Varriden finished mentioning his magic type, the Guild of Wishes came into view. A series of stalls and tents set up in twin rows, both facing inwards, without a single permanent building in sight, due no doubt to the nomadic nature of the traders there. "Welcome to the Guild of Wishes, friends." a man said, walking up. He was wearing a vest, baggy pants, and a headband just under his short, dark hair that was slightly tousled in the front. "Always nice to see new visitors."

"There are some you might be wary of," Varriden said. "On the way here, we had a bit of trouble with some bandits. They didn't manage to steal anything, but they didn't seem shy about attacking travelers."

"Ah, really? We had wondered why so few had come to see us as of late," said the man, shaking his head. "That explains alot. I'll pass the word around to the other merchants, just in case."

Having Varriden say he was curious about what was vibrating her sword, made Lib amused. She could barely wait to see his face, but even so, it was not exactly smart to draw out Ray with nothing to 'aim' it at, since chances were, Ray would turn his full attention to Varriden in this case. Varriden the answered her question about his magic. Lib was not aware such magic existed. Something that actually copies the magic of others was bound to have some extremely good uses.

Then something else caught her eye. It was the area were the Guild of Wishez was set up, they had finally arrived. Which was good, since Lib had been walking for a good while, not counting the time she did before actually entering the forest itself, so she could use the rest. Still, considering all the stories, from what Lib could see, the members of the guild were rather... well, normal. No strange magic was used in their shops, as in, if not for the material being of uncommon source/nature, the prices were rather low, and as long as it stayed that way they would always have customers.

It was at this point, after the talk to the guy standing near the entrance about the bandits, something returned to Lib's mind.

"Wait... wait, wait wait!", Lib spouted, completely surprised at the information she let escape, and asked, "By dragon slayer, by chance, are you talking of Suijin?"

When Varriden said he could wait to see what the deal was with the shaking sword, Lib's expression shifted for the slightest instant - so briefly, that Varriden wouldn't have even caught it if he hadn't been looking right at her at the time. He could have sworn he had seen the beginnings of a smirk, but the change had been so slight, so brief, that even Varriden, with his eyes trained from a long time as Archive, couldn't be sure. No doubt Lib had her reasons, but Varriden was still rather curious - moreso about the reasons why, as to Varriden, it seemed like it would make more sense to show off a skill or some secret where there were less people around, not more, even if the 'more' were bandits. Maybe there's some ability within the blade that needs multiple people to work, Varriden thought. Or just that she wants to actually use the blade, not just swing it into the air for show. I'll find out if the bandits return, I suppose.

After meeting with the greeter by the entrance of the Guild of Wishes (or more likely, a hopeful merchant, given the reduced business, thanks to the bandit attacks), the duo of Scholar and Warrior walked further into the camp, away from the edge of the clearing that marked the start of the Guild of Wishes boundary (somewhat worn, as they had no doubt used this location more than once, if it was known that they tended to reside out here while they were traveling in the area), and towards the stalls, to peruse the goods. Maybe they'll have some books on enchanting, Varriden thought. I don't have too many of those back home, I could always use a few more for the collection.

The train of thought of what to buy was interrupted by Lib, who had apparently put the pieces together and realized that she was familiar with the very Dragon Slayer that Varriden had spoken of, since he hadn't actually named the Slayer directly. "I'm surprised you know of him," Varriden said. "Well, surprised you know of him and don't seem to be bearing any wounds. He was....a bit less than friendly when we met, though it was partially because he didn't like the idea of his magic being 'stolen'. I tried to explain that I just make a weaker copy of it, but it seemed as if I wasn't the first Archive he'd run into, so his first impression with Archive wasn't terribly positive. I copied his techniques - not because he volunteered, but more because he was busy trying to use them to inflict bodily harm on me at the time, and I considered it fair trade to get those in exchange, though thanks to a wild bit of luck - good on my part, bad on his - I managed to escape unharmed."

Lib listened to what Varriden had to say closely. Truth be told, looking back, her first contact with Suijin wasn't exactly the most friendly one. She was in fact very lucky to avoid that Roar that came out of the blue... that and, when taking into consideration everything she learned about Suijin, the fact that she was a woman might have taken a big roll on the events that unfolded that day, which lead to her joining Tartaros.

It appeared that there had been some attrition between Varriden and Suijin, just like with her on that first meeting. Lib had not really caught on what it was that initially started the fight, but it was evident that one of the reasons could be considered to be what Varriden just mentioned. He said his magic allowed him to copy the magic of others, at least by his word. Lib could see why people would frown to that, since she herself took a lot of time to learn what she currently knows, so having someone simple show up and copying it would definitely feel aggravating for some people. Well, Lib's magic isn't one she feels to be that good anyway, so it matters little to her.

"Yeah, I can see the first meeting being a little rough.", Lib replied while looking up as she tried to remember the events of her own meeting with Suijin, "I guess we almosts started with the wrong foot on that day. Thankfully, everything was solved peacefully quite early on so no major fight happened. Well, we went hunting together right after that, but I don't think that would count as a fight, much less a major one.", looking back at Varriden, Lib remembered a question she should have asked the moment she heard Varriden, so she inquired "By the way, you said you copied techniques, did you by any chance copied the ones I used?"

Lib's face was calm and devoid of any threatening factor. She never thought of her magic a good, so if people wanted to copy it, she didn't feel like she was losing anything to begin with. Still, she was curious.

Libbier could see the reasons for the enmity between Dragon Slayer and Archive, given his history with Archive mages prior to Varriden. From her words and tone, though, Lib herself had a similar near-miss experience with Suijin, which was hardly surprising from Varriden's perspective. Though the fact that she was a woman might have helped - Suijin's attitude seemed to do a one-eighty whenever a woman came into the picture. "Lucky you - thinks were solved when I met him as well, though not nearly as quickly." Varriden said. "Our fight was also something that wouldn't be considered major, but less because it got resolved and more because it got interrupted before it could escalate further."

And then, Libbier asked the big question - if Varriden himself had copied her techniques as he had Suijin's. "Well, to be honest, had it been possible, I would have attempted it," Varriden admitted with a slight shrug. "But as it stands, your techniques are strong enough that I would require seeing them a few times each before I could commit them to memory. The only ones I saw in that last fight were that dashing move and the one where you appeared to make a wall out of air. I did look at them with intent to learn, but all I gathered so far was how they functioned."

Lib crossed her arms as she heard what Varriden had to say, after which she delved into thought. From what Lib heard, it was obvious Varriden had tried to copy her magic, and he made no attempts at trying to hide it. Although, he saying her magic was strong made little sense to her, since she has never but considered her grasp on her own magic as nothing but crude and bare bones. She couldn't really control it enough to try anything more complex, nor did she feel like her techniques were as powerful as the amount of effort she had to put into them every time. Suijin could be a good example to her. His magic seemed way stronger than her own, but she felt like he wasn't putting that much effort when he used it.

On another hand Lib didn't really knew how she should feel about Varriden trying to copy her magic without saying anything, or at least not before being approached about it. But then again, Lib didn't feel like she was angry, nor like she would get angry in any case, since she didn't had that much of attachment to her magic to begin with, after all, it was the cause for her worst memory.

"Well, it's not like there is any harm in it.", Lib finally said after the brief moment in silence, "As long as there is no consequences to my own magic, you are free to try any time. Although, much like with my sword, I don't really like using it just for the sake of using it, so unless we encounter those bandits again, you are out of luck."

Lib closed her eyes, took a deep breath and clapped her hands.

"Ok. Enough with the serious talk. Let's explore the market."

Lib took the initiative and walked towards the center of the area where the Guild of Wishes had setup shop today. She soon found her target. A weapon store, or something close to it. She should be able to find something interesting in there.
