Varriden walked through the forest, oddly content, though that was usually the feeling he got after finishing a good book or a long bit of research. Right now, the forest was simply a pleasing atmosphere to him, though that might be a bit biased, given recent experience - he had been exploring here, intent on visiting the Guild of Wishes, as it sounded like a grab bag of random magical assortments - weapons he had some, but not a huge amount, of interest in, and the same thing with armor, but unique magical artifacts were right up his alley. He had been on his way there when he had met with a girl wandering the woods alone, a girl with long brown hair. He wondered if she had gotten separated from her boyfriend - this place was known for visits from couples due to the lavender blossoms that fell in the later seasons - but it turned out she was alone, and lost. Varriden, being the gentleman that he is, offered to help her find a way back to the forest's edge. They eventually got to the forest edge, the girl very grateful - grateful enough that she actually gave Varriden a kiss before departing, though one barely lasting long enough for Varriden to return the gesture with a kiss of his own, before she had run off with a smile. Varriden reminded himself to read into it too much - she was just grateful, that's all, he thought - though he'd be lying if he had said it hadn't been a pleasant experience. His main mission now back on his mind, he walked through the forest, the length of his walk now doubled, thanks to doubling back to the forest's edge to assist the girl earlier. A worthwhile trip, but it had set his hike back just a bit. |

It had been a pretty much event lacking day, still, Lib had made her way to the forest she had heard so much about. It had been a very busy year, since Lib has been walking around the country, both trying to learn as much as she could, but searching for an elusive dragon. It's a very pretty country, but Lib would rather if she had found the dragon at this point. Like for every other place, Lib had come to Lavender Forest to search for the dragon. However, she had just fruitlessly wandered around the forest, finding zero clues that could tell her if the dragon was indeed her, or anywhere else. After a few hours of searching, Lib had decided to rest for a while. At least the forest was beautiful and very quiet indeed, so finding a relaxing spot to rest her eyes wasn't that hard. Ray, who lived on her weapon, on the other hand wasn't too happy with the lack of action. Not that Lib could do anything to satisfy him, either by actually finding something to fight, or simply calming him down... well there was one way, cause there was a way to calm Ray down other than finding a fight... she fighting him herself, which its was easy to guess why she wasn't to fond of that option in particular. Lib was now sleeping on a branch of one of the largest trees she could find, Crescent Blade carefully attached to her usual hunting armor. The weapon itself was rather large, although Lib wasn't exactly small with her height of almost two meters, so it was kinda hard to simply carry it on her waist, or even the back, so Lib usually has to actually carry Crescent Blade around using her hands. Being able to just tie it to the waist right now, is only really possible cause she is far above ground, and her weapon can simply hang down from where she is sleeping. Anyone coming close thru the path, would probably not notice Lib sleeping there, if not for the big shining sharp sword, hanging down like some decoration. |

Varriden's mind was still refocusing on the task he had originally arrived there to accomplish - some trading at the Guild of Wishes - but he slowed his pace briefly when something caught his eye - a flash of light from the upper branches of a tree, like light reflecting off something, though there shouldn't be anything in a forest that reflected light, at least that clearly. Water at best, but the river was still some distance off, and there wouldn't be morning dew on the trees this far into the afternoon, as it would have surely burned away in the heat of the afternoon sun, surely. After a moment, he spotted it, as it had been but a brief flash before - glint off of a large piece of metal. Specifically, a blade - a sharp-looking one. Varriden's instinct was to go for his own blade, as anyone perching in a tree with their blade drawn was surely ready for some kind of trouble - either waiting for it to pass by or waiting to inflict trouble upon another's unsuspecting head - but it seemed odd to Varriden that they would draw a weapon before they intended to use it, when it could catch the light like that. Perhaps they didn't want the sound of it leaving its sheath to alert people, he thought, though given the odd shape of the blade, I find it hard to imagine what a sheath for that thing might even look like. Then he realized something was a bit off - Varriden was in a spot where he should have been visible by now, but there was no reaction from the one holding the blade - no leap to attack, no diving back into the shadows, not even a move to prepare for an attack. Varriden wandered a bit closer, close enough to see past the foilage of the tree, to see a woman laying on the branch, one hand closed around the oddly-curved weapon's hilt. Strangely, she was asleep with her blade drawn. Foolish to do that, Varriden thought. She could roll over in her sleep, off the tree, and land on the thing, which would be quite an unfortunate way to wake up. From her armor, though, she was clearly prepared for some kind of combat. What to do about it, though.... Varriden decided to simply leave her be - if he tried to remove the weapon from her grasp and set it safely against the trunk of the tree so she wouldn't fall on it, she might wake up as he was trying to remove it from her hand and misunderstandings could occur, and he could risk trying to physically move her onto the ground for similar reasons. She'll wake up eventually, he thought. Hopefully in a pleasant manner. Varriden walked under the branch where the girl was sleeping, though he was careful not to actually walk underneath the blade itself, just in case. |

Lib was fast asleep, so much so that she was actually dreaming, and not a pleasant one at that. She was dreaming about... well, she was having a nightmare about the day she left the village... actually it would be more accurate to say she was chased off, but that aside... in it, Lib had failed to escape the villagers and the chief had actually survived and was leading the party and Lib found herself in need to defend herself. As the nightmare reached its climax, Ray reacted to both Lib emotional state and the approach of an unknown man, causing crescent blade to vibrate. Having and external stimulation like that awoke Lib from her slumber, the state she was in however was not the best. Lib jumped onto her feet, crescent blade in hand in a defensive stance, her nightmare still very real in her mind. She scanned around, half asleep trying to find the ghosts of her past that hunted her nightmare. It took only a few moments for her to catch her bearings and realize the nature of her pursuers. Her jump, however, had thrown her to a thinner part of the branch she was on, and as she relaxed, the branch gave away to her weight. Being completely caught off guard by it, Lib fell down without being able to even prepare, landing square in the floor face first. "OUCH!", Lib said while rubbing her face in pain, then she raised crescent blade to eye level, "What tha hell Ray! Don't wake me up like that! Do you have any idea of how embarrassing it would be if someone s...", and then she noticed on the man only a few feet away, "...saw that..." Lib got up, clearing the dust from her vestments and hair. She then cleared her throat and greeted the man, trying to make it as if nothing had happened just now. "Why, hello there! It's a fine day is it not?" |

Just as Varriden was past the girl - out of blade range, thankfully - when the girl woke up with a start, as if waking up from a very bad dream, and it must have been a rather alarming dream, as she was whipping her head side-to-side somewhat frantically. She seemed to realize it had just been a dream after a few moments, though, and leapt onto another part of the branch, which admittedly wasn't something Varriden would have been likely to attempt after just waking up - though in fairness, it was more remarkable that her sudden awakening didn't cause her to fall off her perch in the tree in the first place. As it turned out, it wasn't something she should have attempted, either, as that part of the branch wasn't nearly as sturdy or firmly rooted to the tree as the part she'd been asleep on was, and it broke, sending her plummeting to the ground to face-plant into the dirt, Varriden wincing as she did so. Yeesh, that one had to hurt, Varriden said, the girl confirming that vocally a moment later when she lifted her face out of the earth. She's lucky she didn't break her own neck from that fall. She began yelling - at her sword, no less, which seemed to be named 'Ray', for some reason - before spotting Varriden, and quickly standing up and dusting herself down like nothing out of the ordinary had occurred. "Indeed it is," Varriden said with some awkwardness. "Listen, I know you're trying to save face - almost literally, considering how you fell - but in all seriousness, are you alright? That was a rather sharp fall you just had." Granted, the girl seemed like she wanted to pretend the fall hadn't occurred, but Varriden wanted to be sure she was okay - if she was actually hurt from that fall, he'd rather ask her to shelve her pride for a moment and agree to be healed instead of limping away and pretending nothing was amiss. |

The man agreed with Lib, but he made it clear that he was well aware of Lib trying to dodge the subject of her fall, and insists in asking how she was. Lib just wanted to forget it ever happened, but, the man didn't seem to have ill intentions, and sounded honestly concerned. It's not like Lib ever thought something like this would happen, and it didn't help that she got seen doing it. "Y-yeah, I'm ok.", Lib replied, then added half joking, "I can handle the pain easily, since it was my pride that took the most damage, not my face." Lib let out an awkward laugh, her face still pretty red and dull from the fall. She had come her to learn about the forest, but she never expected to be doing such a close up of the floor. And it was all Ray's fault... well, not really, but did he really need to send out such a strong feeling thru crescent blade? It's obvious that he did so cause he felt this man close by, and if he was trying to warn Lib he didn't do it very well at all. "Sorry about that less than graceful display.", Lib sighed, "I guess I was too relaxed by the forest, and ended up falling asleep.", looking at the man, Lib realized they yet to introduce themselves to each other, and since she was the 'surprise' attacker, she took the lead, "Oh, I'm sorry, I haven't introduced myself. My name is Libbier Geer, most people call me Lib for short, nice to meet you." Lib's once again uses her mirror like personality to deal with the situation, since she is not exactly used to interacting with strangers. Although she is usually respectful by default, the fact that the man displayed such concern towards her, made Lib immediately respect the man. At least for now. |

The girl said that she was okay, then, still trying to keep composure, joked that the pride was the part that was hurt the most. She seemed tough enough that it was possible that she was telling the truth, but still, by the sounds of it, she had sustained some amount of damage, however minor it might be. Her face was red, though that could partially be from embarrassment, but it was clear that the fall had some effect. She apologized for the fall, explaining why she fell in the first place. "Admittedly, it's not the place I would have chosen to fall asleep, for the the exact reason of what just happened to you, but everyone has their own habits, and the forest can have a rather relaxing feel to it if you're out here by yourself." Varriden said. "Ah, nice to meet you as well. My name is Varriden, Varriden Stone, though as far as I'm aware, I don't actually have any nicknames." Varriden held out a hand for her to shake, though whether she accepted the gesture was up to her, as everyone had their own customs. "Though, I have to say, if you are in any pain, do let me know, as I might be able to alleviate it somewhat. That said, exactly what were you doing in the woods? We're a fair ways from any other settlements, and surely you didn't walk this far into the forest just to take a nap in a tree." Edited by Balmung6, Feb 23 2016, 07:19 PM.

OOC: srry for the delay, been busy this past week, but should be back to the normal, posting rate After the man introduced himself as Varriden, Lib reached for his stretched out hand to shake it. It was something it was unusual, at least compared to previous encounters with strangers, but she couldn't complain. Lib felt that shaking hands was a good way to grasp the character of a person, so it was rather reassuring to feel a sure grip from Varriden's hand. Also it had been a while Lib met a man that came close to her own height. Even tho the average height of her village was way above her own, Lib had gotten used to the fact that they were the exception and not the rule and that she herself could also be considered above average. It had been a funny trivia she had discovered in her travels, specially after feeling small for so long. "Worry not for my condition.", Lib answered to Varriden's concerned question, "Something like this isn't something worth calling an injury." To Lib an injury would be something that would leave a mark, and she would only worry when she got one that left a permanent one that could rival with the ones that littered her body, even if only a few could be seen on the skin that her armor left uncovered. They were like trophies from her victories, and reminders from her defeats. "As for why I'm on this forest...", Lib started, she didn't what to say she was looking for a dragon outright, it felt weird no matter how one would put it, so she would omit that part, "Well, I do not really have an answer. I could say that I'm sight seeing but not really. I'm not from this country, and despite the fact that I've been living here for some time, I still want to see more... so I guess you could say that I'm exploring? Although I'm doing so to pass time between jobs, and as you could see before, I'm not really putting much effort in that regard.", Lib added jokingly, before returning the question to Varriden, "What about you? Is there an interesting reason to be in this forest? If so, I would like to hear about it." Edited by LibertyGear, Mar 2 2016, 01:40 AM.

The girl shook his hand, and as she did, Varriden noticed that the girl was about the same height that he was, which was somewhat rare - Varriden wasn't oblivious to the fact that he was a bit tall, and actually grateful for it for multiple reasons - the primary one being that if he was much shorter, his greatsword that was slung over his back would drag along the ground when he walked. The girl herself didn't seem concerned with her own fall, saying anything that had happened as a result was so minor that it wasn't even worth trying to patch it up. Varriden decided to let the issue drop with that - if she was that unaffected by it, then if she was injured at all, it wasn't something that was going to slow her down. "Fair enough," Varriden said with a slight nod, releasing her hand from the handshake. She began to explain her purpose in the forest, but paused, seeming to think something over - no doubt the wisdom of telling a stranger what she was up to, or if she should even mention it at all, perhaps. Those were usually the two biggest reasons to hesitate when given a question like that, generally speaking. She claimed to be sight seeing, but not for seeing the sights, if that made any sense. She said she wasn't from Fiore - which, given her garb and unusual style of weapon, wasn't difficult to believe - but in short, she was killing time while enjoying some downtime from work. When she turned the question around and asked Varriden what he was doing here, he responded: "I'm here to visit the Guild of Wishes - it's a place where stuff is traded and sold, like a market, but comprising of a fair amount of rare or magical goods, and the stuff that's sold there is said to vary almost day-to-day, as most of the ones who supply the goods are the same merchants who park their wagons to sell those same goods." Varriden pointed in the direction further into the forest. "It's said to be somewhere near the center of the forest, and given the size the place is supposed to have - even if it's just a temporarily or mobile setup - that many people in one place have to be making at least some level of noise, which should make it easy enough to locate, once I get within a decent proximity of the place." The guild of wishes... that was a rather ambitious name for a market, but Lib listened with interest to what Varriden said. However, if the name was some kind of way to show off their ability to sell any items for any need, then it might be a good idea to check it out at least once. Besides, she had failed to find what she was looking for already, since she was already planning on going deeper into the forest, she could at least make a detour. Although, if the market was indeed there, then the changes of the dragon being there were extremely low. Still, a market running its sales deep inside a forest? What reason could they have to do that? Maybe they are running a black market? So many reasons crossed Lib's mind, and every single one of them added to her curiosity. "That actually sounds interesting.", Lib replied, "Mind if I join you? I would love to check their wares." Lib looked around, checking her surroundings, making sure she hadn't been turned around by the little incident earlier. Even if she didn't knew where she was going, she should at least know where she was coming from, partly cause she needed to go back later, and cause her pride as a hunter and tracker didn't let her get lost. She could always use Ray and fly, it was just not her way of doing things tho. "Well, I hope it doesn't take too long to find it. It would be annoying to wander around aimlessly." |
