Sometimes it’s odd when fate plays around with you too much that you end up not caring the least bit when confronted with trivial things that were, at one time, significant. Perhaps this was also the result of having been too much engrossed with work that he couldn’t even comprehend his own answer when he was asked to do it. All he knew now was that he was walking across Magnolia, looking for some excellent box of chocolates to give to this woman later on. He sighed as he eyed from outside the glass window of the confectioner. Shizuka was no sweet-tooth so he didn’t really understand what kind of “excellently made, refined dark chocolate marbles” were when his buddy from the barracks had specified. And why, you might ask? Well, a day earlier, the said “buddy” was struck down by sickness and was agonising about a certain important meeting today. It took about three hours before the guy managed to tell Shizuka completely what it was, and of course, Shizuka, coming from a week-long mission, just to shut the guy up, unknowingly jumped between thoughts and ended up agreeing…. To a dinner date. Well, technically, his buddy didn’t know the girl. He just met her along the way. Well, to be more precise, he just saw her, and instantly he fell in love. He was on his way to a mission and couldn’t really speak her for long, so he ended up writing a letter of confession and gave to her, promising her to please come to dinner a week later (which is now tonight). And of course, he ran off to slay some monsters. But in the course of that mission, he got sick and he can’t go. Now, to save face, and because he didn’t want the girl to feel bad, he asked the most reliable, seriously dedicated, and somehow good-looking knight in their division to go instead. And so, Shizuka now finds himself in this situation. Back to the present, he was still debating outside the confectioner before he looked over to the piece of paper which had the buddy’s notes written all over it. “And then flowers, huh? Is he serious? He never even met the girl. Well, I guess this should console her a bit. Really… that guy just makes trouble for everyone.” |

Life was strange, really strange. How in the world did Adel end up in this awkward situation? Sitting at an astoundingly fancy restaurant (which he could never afford to go to in his entire life) waiting for some random Fiorian knight to try his luck at wooing him on a date. A random MALE Fiorian knight at that. Well... he wasn't sure himself to be honest. When the man came up to him blathering like an idiot he just sort of shrunk in himself and nodded to everything the man said. He was kind of scary to be honest. He hadn't been entirely sure HOW to even react. He could only helplessly accept the man's note detailing how he had fallen madly in love with what he described as an angelic beauty and how he wanted to spend the rest of his life with "her". Wow. Dude. Just wow. So why did he agree? All his life Adel admired the knights. As someone with magic, albeit weak magic, he could never join them but he always looked up to them as a symbol of strength. They were people to aspire to be like. They were the heroic ideal in his mind. He wanted to be more like them and less like, well, himself. He was weak, fragile, timid, and not at all like the heroes in the stories he read growing up. He wanted to slay dragons, save princesses, and BE a hero. So any chance to meet and talk with a REAL knight was a chance worth taking; even if it meant dealing with an awkward social situation. Also the knight that came up to him, despite having "gibbering idiot" written all over his face was kind of handsome. Adel, even for his age, was aware of his tastes and stronger leanings towards the opposite sex but that didn't mean that, when he was ready, he'd rule out the same one ether. He rather fancied both to be honest. That probably would just make everything more awkward when he had to crush the poor gentlemen's soul by revealing that the fine piece of ass he was chasing was not, in fact, a lass but a lad. Though given his looks that was something that'd probably take a lot of convincing. It wasn't out of the question he could ever be mistaken for a girl. He had the figure of a girl (minus the, ahem, "bounce") and a girlish face. He might not walk or carry himself in an overly feminine way but he did move about with a sort of delicate grace that one could easily mistake for the mannerisms of a fragile flower. With his snow white hair and gleaming blue eyes... yeah... he'd fall for himself too probably. So here he sat, dressed in his usual attire with his worn traveling cloak on, with the hood up, waiting for his "date" to arrive and the awkwardness to begin in earnest. Oh boy was he in for a surprise. |

Shizuka decided to wing it. He asked around the confectioner for some help and was surprised when a lot of ladies decided to share their inputs as much as possible. He was rather flustered by it and in the end, he bought the ideal chocolate that most of them suggested. Of course, he had to hurry and escape from their midst soon after. Next, was the flower shop and there he, at least, knew what to get. After all, his buddy had been quite careful in explaining to him the particular flower he wanted to give on their first date. An orchid, apparently, was the most suitable for the occasion. How it was suitable?– Shizuka didn’t know but he had to follow orders or else that guy would be crying when he returns and learns he failed because of the wrong flower. In any case, he hurried towards the restaurant after he got the necessary items. He didn’t want to keep the woman waiting. It was bad manners, especially for a knight to keep the ladies waiting. So much for chivalry and dashingly mysterious knights when they come late for the engagement. Oh well, he didn’t want to get his buddy any bad reputation, though perhaps he was already since he wasn’t really knight-isn in his manner about this. It didn’t take long to reach the restaurant and he was allowed to enter when he showed the paper saying he had it booked– rather, his buddy had it booked. He was then led towards the table and the very moment he stood right in front of it, he couldn’t help but stare at the white-haired person who was sitting there. “Are you…. the date?” he couldn’t help utter since he was a bit skeptical and dumbfounded since he was getting signals that his buddy may have confused the person for someone else entirely different. “In any case, here.” He gave the chocolates and the flower before he took his seat opposite the other. “He got injured in a mission and didn’t want to offend you, so I came in his stead. Sorry for this, but please enjoy yourself nonetheless.” |

Well that was unexpected. On two fronts. The first was that the man who had practically pleaded with him and poured his heart out in note form didn't arrive. The second was the man who did was about a thousand times more handsome and rough around the edges it seemed. If he were actually a girl, or hand a stronger leaning towards the opposite sex he'd probably be swooning hard right now. Probably as hard as the original knight had done so over him. Oh irony. Instead the awkwardness finally set in. Followed by the realization that yes, he was indeed, on a date and not just a friendly get together. The gift of flowers and chocolate kind of made that apparent. He really didn't expect ether. Adel was about to answer that yes he was the date and ask where the original knight was but he got is answer in short order prompting him to suddenly ask, in a worried tone, "Is your friend alright?" Adel's voice was quiet, gentle, and timid. He spoke almost in a whisper that came off more as a product of his own shyness and less because he naturally just spoke that way. There was still genuine concerned conveyed in his words. Adel was such a kind young man. He was more worried now about the knight's health than the fact he mistook him for a girl. "Oh, sorry, I should... I should properly introduce myself when addressing one of the knights, or someone in general yes. I'm... I'm Adel, Adelheid Azurite, its nice to meet you Mister Knight. Thank you for the gifts and for coming in your friend's stead. I'm sure he will appreciate the gesture but... um... there is one thing..." He paused as if wondering how to best put it gently. "Um... is he... is he aware that I'm a boy?" Adel lowered his hood shyly as if that would make a difference. Indeed, for all the world, he looked like a young lady despite his saying the contrary. |
