Marceline snapped back to reality to find herself being barraged with an endless supply of questions from her mission companion. She grimaced, brain buzzing with all these queries about what she was, her magic, and her entire being. She took a step back, bringing both of her hands up before waving them in front of her. "Whoa, woah. There's time for all of that after the mission is done and over with, alright? Easy, Captain Curiosity. Yeesh. We still gotta get these cats n' whatnot." Speaking of cats.. Moros was the first to spot the cat smacking around the now colourless ball that Marcie had previously tossed. The Void beast grunted, tugging at locks of Marcie's hair to get her attention, eventually pulling the woman to look and see what all the commotion was all about. And that's when she'd spot the cat. She smirked, nuzzling Moros in appreciation before gesturing silence to Esper via index finger pressed to her lips. She would then crouch low, creeping up on the cat. She's pounced far bigger felines than this little pussycat, so she wasn't too worried. If anything, she'd get a few more scratches here and there. Creeping closer, she got in just the right range to reach outward. Slowly... Sloooowly... Then.. Yoink! She nabbed the cat by the tail and held on for dear life. Bad idea. The cat went off in a frenzy, startled yowling and a flurry of claws coming right for Marcie's arm. The woman grimaced as the cat tore into her like a child opening presents on Christmas morning. Her poor sweater didn't stand a chance, and neither did her arm. The cat grabbed her arm and bit down, fore-paws clutching the woman's clawed up limb while its hind paws delivered a flurry of bunny kicks to the underside of her forearm. The entire time, she grimaced and winced, but didn't cry out. Instead, with her free hand, she nabbed the cat by its scruff, practically paralyzing it right then and there. Stupid cat.. With her grip on it now secured, she took care in peeling the frantic feline from her torn up arm. "Fuckin'... Stupid hairball... Gonna take great pleasure shoving you up into a tree." She snapped. The cat, not having any of it, took a swipe at her face, nicking her nose. She recoiled, then spat expletives under her breath while searching for a perfect tree for this little fuzzy asshole. It had to be extra tall. She had a plan for this fucker. "Esper. Got any rope? Or cloth or something? Time to put the cat back in the bag..." Oh yes, she had a plan for this one. Meanwhile, Moros was more concerned with Marcie's injuries. Stray cats carried a lot of germs and diseases. He'd urge Marcie to heal up her wounds once she's done getting her vengeance on the mewling, slashy menace. Edited by Marceline, Jan 25 2016, 03:27 AM.

It would seem that Esper had indeed gone a little overboard with the rapid fire questions as he snapped out of his own out of character actions. Giving a bow of apology to be polite he'd apologize as Marceline captured the second cat while enduring some more superficial wounds. As the assistant he was starting to look bad with her getting all the injuries. Pulling open his satchel he'd go through his belongings. He had a little bit of robe but not much. It was mainly used to tie a cloth around anything sharp he might find so it wasn't very long, maybe about two feet total. Handing it over he'd make note that next time he was in town he'd need to buy some medical supplies and a first aid kit to add to the contents of his satchel. "Here you go. It's not much but it'll do the trick. Sorry about the wounds. If you want I'll see about getting the next cat. There's one not far from here I just saw but it's playing with a kid so I hadn't considered it as an option to gather. Interestingly enough it's a reddish-orange colored cat if if that peeks your interest any in it." Not being a bad or good guy Esper didn't want to take a cat from some kid but this was a mission and it might be less traumatic on the child if he went and gathered it instead since animals like him. Going over to the child and cat he'd bend down to pet the cat. "This is a pretty cat you have here. He's soft, fluffy, timid and so fluffy but he looks hungry. If you want I'll hold onto him right here while you go grab some food?" With glee the young boy would dart off to go get some food for his cat ironically saying to make sure mittens didn't go up into any trees. Picking up the cat in his arms and petting it's bad he'd walk over to Marceline to see what she wanted him to do with it next. |

Marceline was too focused on vengeance against the cat, that she didn't really say much after being given the rope. Taking it, and the cat, she strolled right up to the tallest tree in the park. Tying the cat to her chest, as odd as it may look, she would then begin to scale the tree. The cat wasn't going quietly, that's for sure. It yowled and flailed its limbs about, claws hooking into the bark and inhibiting her movement every now and then. Then again, the cat had every right to be utterly pissed. Snatched away from its toy and tied to the body of a strange woman whom was now climbing a tree with it? Anyone else would surely be ticked off. Finally reaching the top of the tree, she wrapped her legs around the swaying trunk, rump planted on a sturdy branch as she untied the cat from her chest. She would then tie the cat to the top of the tree, like a fuzzy Christmas star. Despite how cruel the act was, she was surprisingly careful in tying the cat to the tree. Not too tight to restrict its chest movement, but not too loose where it could slip and fall free. Once the feline menace was securely tied, she shimmied her way down the tree and back onto solid ground. Once settled, she inspected the damage done to her arms. Scratches everywhere with that black blood of hers smeared over her pallid skin. It stung. Oh boy, did it sting. But it wasn't the worst thing in the world. Tugging her sleeves back down, she'd just ignore the damages for the time being. She wasn't too fussed about it, and if she got sick, she knew a couple folks with healing spells. Blammo. Her attention soon drifted to Esper, whom was now approaching with yet another cat in his arms. She perked a brow. Not even a scratch on him. Must be nice. Then again, he was actually pampering the fuzzball instead of snagging it by the tail or something. Kindness leads to zero scratches after all. Either way, this was cat number three. Easy. But from any experience Marcie had in collecting a specific number of things, the last one was always the hardest to find. So instead of trying to find and collect the fourth cat straight away, Marcie focused on what to do with the one Esper had. She'd leave him to hold it while Marceline glanced about. The soft sounds of the other two cats meowing started to draw a small crowd. How annoying. Can't have people rescuing these cats before she completed her mission. This is where Moros came in... With a simple nod, Moros took on a silent understanding of Marcie's command. Leaping from Marceline's shoulder, a swirl of dark energy enveloped the tiny bird, it getting bigger and bigger before dissipating with the thundrous cry of a much larger version of Moros standing before them. This was Moros' illusion spell. One he used for intimidation and territory defense. The large, wyvern-like version of her Void Beast companion stomped his hand-like wings against the ground, vapors billowing from his toothy maw while he shrieked and hissed in an attempt to frighten off the park goers. The attempt happened to go pretty successfully with people scattering like roaches, far away from the trees that Moros aimed to defend. Marceline simply nodded, leaving Moros to his job while her attention returned to Esper once again. "Hm... I think... I think I have an idea with this one. But I need a cloth sack. Something breathable. Or.." Marcie paused, pulling off her sweater. It was damaged anyway, and she had plenty more like it. Unraveling a strand of yarn from the torn sleeve, she tied off the sweater's neck hole, turning the sweater into a makeshift sack. Perfect. Now to pick out the perfect tree to trap this poor, unsuspecting cat in. If Fiore had an SPCA, Marcie would be on their most wanted list by now. Sure, she felt a LITTLE bad, but a job's a job. |

Esper holding the cat would continue to comfort it as he held it. If anything it would save Marceline from getting scratched even more as she awkwardly climbed a tree with a cat strapped to her but then again she comes from a guild that will do anything in order to complete a mission. Stepping to the side he'd wait for her to come back down as people were starting to stare at them. The cats bringing even more onlookers from their loud protests being stuck up in trees. "Maybe I shouldn't have taken a job that could net me negative attention. Not that this is too horrible of a thing, I should consider my job and that I have to live here in the city...naw it'll be okay." Stuck in his inner thoughts for a moment he'd be snapped back to reality as the bird that had been accompanying Marceline decided to shapeshift into a large wyvern-like creature as it pummeled the ground in a display of aggression. The screams of scatters of people would break for the hills as Esper himself also took to diving behind the tree he was near placing his back to it. Adrenaline rushing he'd almost not even notice the claw marks being dug into his chest and stomach by the now frighten cat who was trying to escape as well. Keeping his grip he'd try to sooth the cat down while holding onto it to no avail as it continued to claw and bite him. Getting annoyed he'd stand up while keeping his back to the tree trying to hide from the creature that had appeared. Shoving the cat into his satchel while latching it shut he'd toss it up into the tree as it caught on branches in the foliage. Sufficiently logged up there he'd no longer have to deal with the cat and it's attacks as he peaked ever so slightly around the corner of the tree to see what was going on. Marceline would stand there completely unhindered or afraid of the monster and it's display as she seemed to be inquisitively looking around. Taking a slight step out from behind the tree he'd address her in a calm tone, internalizing his fear and pain from his voice, even if his actions said otherwise half hidden behind a tree with a blood red stained shirt. "I'm taking it he does that often and hasn't just gone berserk or you'd be doing something right?" |

Marceline seemed quite pleased with Moros' intimidation attempt. Once the park was fairly clear of people, the large beast that was Moros quickly vanished in a haze of dark energy. With the day being sunny, the void creature had a hard time maintaining his magic in all the light. He was more in tune with darkness and thrives better without light. Since sunlight weakens him, his magic suffers as well. Now back to his right size, he waddles himself back to Marceline before splaying out on the ground in front of her. Marcie sighed, placing the makeshift sack on the ground to free up her hands. She quickly scooped up the weary creature and placed him on her shoulder. Being too worn out to keep up the gruff bravado, he just huddled himself up against Marceline's neck. He used her hair for shade and her body for warmth. Nap time for Moros, meaning he was no longer useful for the rest of the mission. Poor guy. Her attention now pulled back to Esper, whom she had almost forgotten when Moros popped up. She peered at the male, noticing a significant lack of pu- cat. She perked a brow, then glanced over at the tree that he was walking towards her from. She smirked, then lightly patted his shoulder. "Good one! And Moros? Nah, that's only an illusion. He uses it to ward people off if he needs to. If he had gone berserk, he would have been pecking the hell out of people. Or scratching. He's an aggressive lil' shit when he wants to be. But is only really active at night because of his origins." Marceline shrugged, reaching up to pat Moros' head while her eyes scanned around for the final cat. Three out of four were in trees. Not too shabby. And they were making good time, too. However, Moros' little intimidation efforts had scared off a good portion of the stray cats around the park. This would make finding and catching the last cat a bit more difficult. They'd be a bit more skittish, and likely hiding. So it was time to hunt some pu- cats. Cats... |

Accepting the pat and praise he'd feel a bit more at ease over the fact it was nothing more than an illusion. A very convincing one at that which made him wonder what other effects illusion magic could actually produce. Was it completely false or could a illusion effect you on such a level that it causes mental fatigue. The thoughts were flooding his mind but his new "friend" was right, it was hunting. Something he could gleam from her as she scanned the area for more cats. "An illusion huh. That's my first illusion I've encountered. It's quite effective. I guess we should look for the last cat. I'm not sure it will be so easy even with my natural magnetism to animals now that any in the area are most likely frightened and on high alert due to the cries of the already captured ones in the trees." Taking a spin he'd see if he could spot any before crouching to see if he could spot any in the brush near the area only to see he couldn't spot any at the moment but there was something left behind by someone who had run away thanks to Moro. Moving over to it he'd pick up a box in the shape of a heart that was filled with little chocolates cake pops. Over a few of them were a red drizzle next to a tiny labeled saying Strawberry Glazed Red Velvet Cake pops. Picking it up he'd take it over to Marceline. "Here. You might like these. They are chocolate and they have a bit of red to them." If she accepted he'd Give Chocolates to her hoping she accepted them. In truth Esper was incapable of strong feelings of love or hate but eh still could feel aroused and like someone and there was something about this woman; her power, skills and uniqueness, all on top of the fact she was a rare spatial dragon slayer that used similar magic to herself. "I wonder if she'd be willing to go on a date after we hang up the last cat. It'll mean a slight delay in informing the contractor the deed is done but that shouldn't be to much of a issue...I hope." |

Marceline's attention quickly focused on the pilfered treats she had been gifted. Chocolates, huh? This time of ye- Oh right, it was almost that time, again. The season of love. She shuddered. Love. Something the woman never understood. Literally. Just like fear, she was created without any ability to acknowledge or feel the emotion that is love. Lust? Sure. Desire? Oooh yes. But love? Nah. Seems her 'father' was some kind of perv. Or something. Either way, she accepted the box of chocolates, a grin splaying across her ashen lips. "Gee, thanks, 'Valentine'." Marceline chuckled, then leaned forward to plant a smooch right on the male's cheek. How nice. Moros was nearly choking back vomit. Poor dear. Cheesiness aside, it was time to get back to the task at hand. Marcie shoved the box of chocolates into her bag, tucking them right next to Hambo for safe keeping. She can eat them later during a bubble bath. Now, it was time to find that last cat and get this job over with. Motioning for Esper to follow, she'd lead him down the park's main trail, eyes scrutinizing every bush, trash can, bench, and anything else that could serve as a good hiding place for a wily feline. Those sneaky bastards couldn't hide forever. Or maybe they could.. Marcie didn't have forever, though! She needed to get back to Coreopsis eventually. Magnolia wasn't exactly the best place for a dark mage. And with all the cat-astrophic nonsense she's already created, surely the knights would come running soon enough. Or worse, Fairy Tail members. Marcie visibly shuddered at the thought. Soon enough, a small wriggle of a fluffy appendage caught Marceline's eye. A plush tail, poking out from a bush. Unsuspecting. Innocent. Prime for the taking.. It was hers. Surely. Silencing her steps, Marcie crept close. Closer... Closer.. Once at a close enough distance, she leapt forward, hands grabbing hold of the tail. Bad idea.. A canine's whine, followed by extremely displeased snarling. Shit. Not a cat.. NOT A CAT. Marcie frowned. "Shit. It's a dog.. Uh, Esper?" Was all Marcie could get out when the dog turned, grabbing Marcie's forearm in it's maw. Marcie winced, then frowned again while repeatedly flicking the dog's nose. Sure, it hurt like hell, but if she kept flicking the nose, it'd let go eventually. Right? ![]()

After getting the kiss and being called Valentine it would become very apparent to Esper that he wasn't in love with Marceline but just enamored by her skill, power and uniqueness. Not surprising since he had never felt real love before, not since the death of his parents when his emotions shut down and since he didn't have any real friends he didn't know if he could love them or not either. Shaking his head there would be no need to ask her on a date but it would make him wonder what dates were like. He has been with women at the Inn but never tried to get romantic with someone. "Maybe I'll ask out someone just to see what it's like after this mission. First we need to find this last cat." Stalking pray with Marceline he'd skulk behind her moving as quietly as he could to flank whatever might run away from her. Getting read to pounce she'd let out a a warning it wasn't a cat but a dog and that dog was now firmly in her maw. Moving forward he'd slide with his knees on the grass into position as he wrapped one arm around the dogs body and the other around it's neck to hold it into place. In most cases an animal will change it's target if it's being grabbed and this was no different, it would be a lucky thing Esper knew such things about animals but unluckly as it's bite changed it's target. Turning it's head it'd be able to get just enough of his shoulder to clamp down onto him, forcing Esper to release the dog as it bolted away. "Damn dog. Ugh that hurt he got in deep." While he was certainly upset he wasn't angry with the dog. After all it was frightened and in it's mind had just gotten attacked but his right arm would be far less useful until he managed to get it mended up by a doctor or a mage with healing magic. "You okay Marceline. Haha don't suppose it would be considered cheating to just go buy a cat and put it up in a tree? A cat in a tree that needs saving is still a cat in a tree after all." |

Marceline blinked in surprise when Esper took out the dog, taking a rather nasty bite himself in the process. Brave fella. She smirked when the dog went running, she grabbing a rock found nearby and chucking it at the fleeing mutt. Stupid dog. She huffed, then turned her attention back to Esper. His shoulder was almost as bad as her forearm. Red.. A fair amount of red. Delicious red.. But blood. She hated the taste of blood, surprisingly, given her vampiric appearance. Huffing once more, she inched over to Esper. Taking her already damaged sweater, she ripped a few strips away before taking a bottle of water she had in her bag. Biting the top off the bottle, she grabbed Esper by his upper arm. "Hold still. Gonna clean this up. My arm will be fine. Don't you worry about me. Brave little idiot." She teased while pouring water over the bite on his shoulder. Carefully, she dabbed away the bloodstained water with bits of shredded sweater, getting Esper cleaned up to the best of her ability. She was no medic, but she knew enough to get her by. Pulling her scarf from around her neck, she quickly tied it over the exposed bite to keep it covered. Clunky and gaudy, but effective with her lack of general medical supplies. With her arm, she just dumped the rest of the water onto her charcoal stained skin, rubbing away the inky blood from her own bite. Again, she kind of got what she deserved, since grabbing stray animals is never smart. Marcie wasn't exactly known for thinking clearly when doing something.. Now tidied up and bandaged up with sweater pieces, Marcie stood and smoothed her hair out. What a day. And there was a cat still at large that was just begging to be put up in a tree. Now, she almost considered Esper's idea to buy a cat just to put in a tree, but she didn't want to waste her money on an animal she was just going to ditch in a tree. She'd feel bad.. Hell, she felt sort of bad for placing the strays in the trees as is. With a grunt, she rubbed her head before looking about a bit more. Her pointed ears slightly wiggled with the grinding of her teeth as she became slightly irate. She began to regret having Moros scare people off, not realizing it would scare any animals off too. "Damn it.. Shit, let's split up. I'll take the north end of the park. You take the south. If you spot a cat, yell for me, alright? We'll find one eventually. And no more fuckin' dogs. Sound good? Good. If we finish this job before sunset, I'll buy dinner. Deal?" She smirked, giving the male a thumbs up before heading off to the north end of the park in search of another cat. |

Bandaged up by Marceline he'd inspect the patch job. It wasn't horrible but it wasn't the best either, certainly enough to get him buy but moving his arm to much would be painful and would keep the wound open and from healing. He'd just have to deal with it as best he could. "Luckily it didn't nick anything important or I'd have to worry about blood loss. With this bandage it'll keep that from happening as long I take it easy." Satisfied with everything he'd simply nod before moving to the south as directed while she moved towards the north, the promise of dinner being paid for urging him forward and if he was lucky some healing magic at the clinic. The further he moved to the south the more silent the cries of the cats became in the distance as he began to exit the parks edge. Soon coming up to people they'd give him a weird look due to his injury but otherwise would leave him alone as he continued to look around. Birds, dogs, cows and horse could be seen throughout the area but no cats. "Maybe the cats know to hide right now. They have sharp hearing and probably heard the cries of the ones we hung up." "You there. What's going on? Why are you injured?" Stopping Esper would turn to see a young man, maybe 17 at best, dressed in thick cloth armor with metal greeves and a breastplate. Dangling at his side a common knights sword giving note that he was a knight in the area, maybe there to investigate the situation after Moro's illusion scarring people. His general appearance was that of a trainee on general guard duty in the city, more like a traveling police officer than anything. Coming up on Esper he'd hold his arm forward with hand held out as his other hand grasped the hilt of his sword ready to draw it from the sheath if needed. It would become evident to Esper he'd have to employ his skill in acting if he was going to get out of this one. "Hello officer. I don't know what you mean by what's going on but I'm injured because a stray dog attacked my kitten. I fought off the dog and it ran away but my kitten is now hiding somewhere so I'm looking searching. Actually, now that you're here you can help me! Protect and serve right? I need service right now. The longer it takes for me to find the kitten the longer it will take for me to get medical help." Taking to Espers pleas the young knight would fall for Espers guile as he let down his arm and his guard. "I'm sorry to hear that sir. Yes of course I'll help you find your kitten. I'll check the allys here and you look around the trees and brush here. If I find one I"ll bring it to you to see if it's yours or not." "Sure glad he didn't ask for specifics. Look, sex, age. Then again I was vague as possible and he's just a young errant in training. Oh well. If he can help me find something it'll make this mission all the more easier."
