Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

The man seemed to think that hurling things at Blitz was a good way to test his abilities in combat, but Trevor seemed to disagree. "I have made a few devices to assist in my training in the past," Blitz said, "But I don't think I'd feel like creating one for someone who assaults people out of nowhere. Or anyone that happens to be nearby to that person."

"An unfortunate loss," said the man. "But does that count him, as well?"

For a moment, Blitz thought the man meant Trevor, until another fellow leapt down from the trees farther back, another ninja-looking type, though by appearance, he was a bit shorter and a bit younger than his companion, with black hair as well, but cut short instead of being kept long.

"Deal with the spare." the first man said in a dismissive tone.

"As you wish." said the second, in a professional tone, before leaping at Trevor with a short blade in one hand.

The other man, meanwhile, turned his full attention back to Blitz, leaping at him just as the other ninja had leapt at Trevor.

(Assume the second ninja has similar stats to Trevor, with the exceptions that he has slightly less strength but slightly more speed)

It was fortunate that Trevor had spent hours having the basics of combat drilled into him along with the few actual experiences of being in a fight that he’d had in his travels. He responded without much thought as the ninja lunged at him. The man was very fast and Trevor felt the sharp edge of the blade knicking his arm although it only left a scratch as he jerked out of the way.

He brought his sword into a defensive position and parried the man’s next lunge. The sound of metal clashing filled the air as he (barely) deflected the short sword. His body was loose and fluid as he’d been trained to keep it and his focus seemed to sharpen even as adrenalin raced through his body.

He thrust forward, aiming to penetrate the ninja’s defences, but was successfully deflected by the man. Another wicked lash of that short blade whistled inches from Trevor’s face. This man was serious. Now the lean youth brought his blade whirling around to make a slash at his assailant’s face which forced him backwards and bought Trevor some space.

It was enough to allow him to press another attack as he thrust his blade in low, aiming for the mass of his attacker’s torso. He felt the blade bite a little before the other man danced away and flicked a high kick at his face. The lanky teen swore, ducked and came back into his ready stance. This was not so much fun but there was no escaping it now.

Blitz was concerned as the other ninja leapt at Trevor - he had no idea what Trevor's history with combat was, and certainly didn't want to lose a new apprentice before he'd even begun to train him - but Trevor seemed to respond well. The ninja did get an attack on him, but judging by his sleeve and his movements, he hadn't actually slashed Trevor with the blade, merely grazed his arm.

Assured that Trevor at least would be able to hold his own for a bit, Blitz refocused his attention on the man that had originally attacked them, only to see another hail of shruikens flying towards him. Remembering what had occurred last time, Blitz sidestepped to avoid them, and sure enough, they sailed past Blitz with a whirr and hit the tree a short distance behind him, exploding as they made contact with the wooden trunk, sending wood chips flying outward as the tree began to topple over, it's wooden anchor robbed of proper support.

As it fell, Blitz didn't get out of the way - quite the contrary. He ran over and leaned one hand down, as if to catch the falling tree with a single hand, which he did. Could have gone Takeover, but with the tree already broken free of its root-like hold on the ground, that level of strength wasn't needed here. Blitz hefted the tree trunk over one shoulder with both hands, then hurled it towards the man like a javelin. The man's eyes widened (as would anyone's who had a full tree chucked at them) and he jumped backward, the tree plowing into the ground in a sudden storm of sound as half the branches on the top snapped from the impact, the tree trunk plowing a short but deep furrow into the soil as its airborne flight came to a grinding halt.

Blitz risked a glance over at Trevor - both combatants seemed to be exchanging attacks, but Trevor looked like he was beginning to have a difficult time. Should I risk giving him one of my inventions to assist? Blitz pondered to himself. If he doesn't use them right, he could hurt himself more than his assailant.

In the midst of the fight, both Trevor and his attacker were distracted by the creaking, cracking noise of Blitz uprooting a tree. The impact that it made when it hit the ground made both of them spin but it gave Trevor a chance to try and sneak an attack on the other man. He drove inwards with his blade but the ninja had been expecting it. He parried and tried to break Trevor’s kneecap with a kick. The youth moved aside but the kick still landed hard in his thigh. He grunted at the pain and stepped back.

The biggest problem for Trevor right now was the man’s speed. The Northern lad was quick and nimble but he wasn’t blurringly fast like this man was. He drove a slash forward to the man’s face but found it blocked and turned aside. He glanced across at Blitz briefly before ducking a whirling roundhouse and trying to thrust forward at his midriff. This was frustrating and he began to worry that he might not quite have enough skill to avoid being injured or worse. He tried to focus and the sound of metal on metal rang out once more as he parried another lightning attack.

Blitz had been so focused on his own fight, and the pros and cons of lending Trevor an invention, that it hadn't even occurred to him that the sound from his plant-based offensive would be a distraction for the young apprentice. Thankfully, it seemed like it rattled his opponent just as much, so it didn't end up backfiring for Trevor. Unfortunately, Trevor seemed to have misjudged just how rattled his foe had been, as Blitz, watching out of the corner of his eye, noted them clash once again, then Trevor stumbled backward with a curse, meaning his attempt had failed, at the very least.

He needs help in some fashion, Blitz thought. I shouldn't take over the fight, he should be allowed to fight his own fight, but he needs some kind of edge if he's going to prevail. He might pull it off on his own, but right now, I'm not liking his odds. How to pass it off to him, though? Blitz pondered. If I shout his name, he'll get distracted, and if I just fire something at the other guy, it's the same as taking the guy out for him.

Blitz sighed. I guess it's not 'what' I should send over, it's 'who'. he thought. In the past, Blitz had loaned out Shoop on occasion when he'd been traveling or fighting with another mage that needed a combative edge or a quick healing, but he'd loaned out another of his creations, just once.

Crash, go help the kid, Blitz thought, using their link to communicate mentally. Don't win the fight for him, just give him some backup as a support.

You got it, boss man, Crash mentally replied, soaring away from Blitz to fly towards Trevor.

"Can you afford to be so focused on another?" a voice said, just as Blitz raised his arm to deflect a sword strike from the first ninja. "You're fighting me. Take care to remember that."

"Make me fight seriously, and I promise to write it down later." Blitz shot back, earning a scowl and a 'tch' noise from the ninja.

Meanwhile, Crash floated up alongside Trevor. "Here to help, apprentice! Boss man's orders."

Having Crash beside him gave Trevor a sense of confidence. He parried a nasty thrust from the ninja and said, “Thank you, Crash! I appreciate..the...assistance!”

The man was quick but Trevor hadn’t spent hours doing the same repetitive exercises with his sword for nothing. He had the stamina to keep on fighting. He knew that if he could outlast the assailant, he’d eventually be able to rely on his fitness to be sharp when the other man grew exhausted. The problem was keeping him distracted so Trevor shouted, “If you can give our friend here something to think about now, Crash, it would be greatly useful.”

The wicked short sword blade came at Trevor again and he blocked, whirled and drove a slice at the man. It forced him back but it wasn’t long before he was coming forward again. This time Trevor was ready and felt the reassuring feeling of metal biting into flesh. The ninja swore and rolled away, coming up to attack again, his upper arm bloodied. Now the lanky teenager hoped that Crash had something up his...well...metaphorical sleeve to help him press his advantage home.

Crash nodded. "No problem, kid, can do." Crash waited for an opportunity to assist, watching as the two faced off, clashing close, not leaving much room for Crash to assist without doing them both some harm, but then Trevor helped make an opening - he managed to pull off a success in the last clash, blood spiraling away briefly in a ribbon from the ninja's arm as the ninja put a bit of distance between the two.

"If the two of you are square with each other in ability except Speed, then that's an easy fix." Crash said, clapping his robot hands together with a slight 'clank' and then casting his hands outward, a purple aura around them. A moment later, the same purple aura began to enshroud the ninja, as the ninja's body was slowly dragged towards Trevor.

Meanwhile, Blitz was still squaring off with the first ninja. "You never did explain why the hell you want my head specifically," Blitz said, parrying another sword strike with his metal arm as sparks burst and snuffed themselves out in the soil below. "Surely there are better ways to test your own abilities than flinging them at random strangers? I get wanting someone who can hold their own as a testing standard, but this seems a bit far to go."

"Ah, but when I heard tales of your hide, I knew you'd be an ideal target, though I admit, I thought your iron skin would be a bit more metallic. Still, you can't fool me with that form of yours - who else would have that kind of defense built into their very skin?" the ninja taunted.

Blitz paused, a confused look crossing his face. "Wait, what? What form are you talking about?" Blitz's face went blank for a moment, then he facepalmed with his free, non-metal hand. "Oh, please tell me you don't think I'm who you think I am, or this is going to be absurdly ironic..."

Trevor smiled and said, “Well now! That is much better. My thanks, Crash, I do believe I can manage now.”

The ninja still readied himself for combat, in spite of the fact that Crash had slowed him down, and he tried to make a battle out of it when he came in sword range but now he was easily matched by Trevor. He slashed and the lanky youth dodged and moved again. The dance of blades was easier now and the ninja began to tire under the blows rained on him by his opponent. He was driven back and back again. He looked around desperately as he was backed into a corner. Whatever Crash had done, it had definitely slowed the enemy up.

He was still a competent swordsman but without his speed edge, he wasn’t any better than Trevor who was in fine form. There were beads of sweat forming on the man’s forehead as he was driven backwards. Now the question was how to end the fight. Leaving the man dead was potentially possible but the young Northerner wasn’t sure he should go that far. He was trained to kill in a situation where there was no choice but this time, he figured there was. As the ninja stepped into him, Trevor sidestepped and brought his fist crashing into the man’s temple with all of the force he could muster. The man’s eyes rolled back in his head and he fell into an untidy heap.

Without hesitation, the lanky youth removed the unconscious ninja’s belt and tied his hands behind his back. Standing over him, Trevor watched the scene unfolding between Blitz and his attacker with interest.

Crash nodded. "I'll let you take care of the workload here, but I'll step in again if things start going sour."

To the ninja's credit, he did try to lash out at Trevor once he was in range, but thanks to the slow pull from Crash's, well, Pull technique, Trevor had more than enough time to prepare a strike of his own, as well as prepare himself to counter any thrown at him in the last instant. After a few clashes, Trevor eventually got the better of the second ninja, managing to clock the ninja soundly upside his temple with his fist, knocking the man out cold as he collapsed on the ground, Crash letting his magical assistance fade, as it was clearly no longer required.

"Nice job, newbie!" Crash said, floating over to peer at the fallen ninja briefly. "My job's done, technically, but right now, I'm content to just watch bossman dust his guy's friend." Crash turned to watch Blitz's fight, which had actually slowed to a near-stop, as there now seemed to be confusion on both sides, though the level of confusion seemed to differ.

The ninja glanced at his fallen comrade, then back to Blitz. "Exactly who do you think I'm mistaking you for? Iron skin is a fairly unique feature."

Blitz sighed. "You're looking for the beast said to lurk in these parts, right? Iron skin for its hide, horns said to be made of magic itself? Am I correct in thinking you've mistaken me for that creature?"

The ninja looked slightly nonplussed. "If the beast has horns of pure magic, surely shapeshifting is a feasible feat for it."

Blitz shook his head. "Glad you're thinking outside the box, but I'm not the beast. Hell, I MET the thing once, and if you saw us side-by-side, I think you'd agree that we're very different from one another."

The ninja was silent a moment, then leapt back and sheathed his blade, though his air of hostility didn't seem to fade much. "I'll admit, I mistook you for a different target, but this encounter has had a silver lining - I've found a new target worthy of testing my skills on. Tell me your name!"

"Blitz Ranfen." Blitz replied. Not like it was a big secret, and given his history, the ninja wouldn't have much trouble finding it out on his own if he did some research - after all, how many other people had one robotic arm and a talking hat?

"Blitz! Once I've honed my skills, I'll return for a rematch. But I won't be satisfied until I've managed to defeat you!" The ninja vanished in a puff of purple smoke, and was gone.

"Well, he was an interesting sort, wasn't he?" Blitz asked, relaxing slightly. "Don't suppose we could ask his friend?" Blitz turned, only to find nothing. "....Except that his friend has vanished as well. Ah well."

The positive response that Crash gave to Trevor made him smile. He felt like he’d really acheived something by managing to vanquish his opponent, but his jubilation was short lived as the ninja who’d been tied up and his leader both seemed to melt into the air.

Trevor wondered what sort of magic it was that had made these two vanish, but it didn’t seem to be anything demonic so he was less concerned than he might have been. He turned to Blitz and said, “How could he have mistaken you for a horrible creature? I do not think such a being would bother to speak to him. At any rate, I am impressed by your abilities. Perhaps I shall similarly be able to enhance my own abilities as I train with you.”

The lanky youth added, “I am mightly impressed by Crash’s powers too. Thank you again Crash! Your assistance was most helpful.”

Turning to Blitz he gave a firm nod of his head and said, “Shall we continue? I am excited to reach your laboratory and home.”
