Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Blitz and his new apprentice, Trevor, had set out from Acacia in order to return to the peak of Mount Hakobe, to begin Trevor's training to become a proper inventor. Since flying all the way there with him would be a tall order, however, the two opted to walk back, passing by some waterfalls and detouring through Lavender forest, which bordered on the southern edge of the Hakobe range, though due to the sheer height of the range and steepness of the cliffs, they would have to traverse the woods for a decent amount of time in order to reach a spot where they could begin the climb, at least at a place that wasn't so ridiculous that they'd need climbing gear to even think of climbing from there.

Blitz passed the time by chatting with Trevor as they walked. "So, Trevor, you said you're a wandering spirit - exactly where in Fiore have you been in your travels?" Blitz asked, glancing over his shoulder at the apprentice. "Anyplace interesting? Though I'm assuming Mount Hakobe wasn't one of your destinations, given the year-round cold weather that seems to cling to the mountainside."

"Didn't stop you from building a house up there," Shoop grumbled quietly.

It had made Trevor feel pleased to have a traveling companion. Wandering alone had been alright but everything seemed to pass by much more easily when there was someone along for the journey. It made him think about Julian and he tried not to dwell on that situation. After all, as his sword master had once said, the past was past and the future hadn’t happened yet. He could only live his life for the present time. There was no space for regret in the life of a true swordsman.

The sunlight that dappled the forest was soothing and Trevor felt comfortable talking to Blitz as they climbed through the lavender glades. His long legs easily ate the distance and he spoke smoothly as he said, “I’ve been to Trillium, Tessera, Oak Town...hm...Hosenka Spa and Empyrea International to name a few of my destinations. I suppose one might say I have wandered quite extensively for someone of my age.”

He added, “The under levels of Tessera were fascinating. Awful things happened down there, but the antiquity of those places and their strange beauty impressed me, “ he paused at hearing Shoop’s reply to Blitz and said, “Cold is no bother to me. I grew up on a high plateau that was mostly wrapped in winter. I shall enjoy seeing this house. How did you manage to construct such a thing at the top of a great mountain, Blitz?”

Ironically, Trevor's sword master and Blitz would have discovered that their methods of thinking were very different - whereas the sword master lived in the present, always remaining in the current moment, Blitz did so to some extent, but with inventing, it came with a reflection of past and future both - the past in that he sought to correct any errors that were found in past programming, and the future in that he tried to think of things that his current arsenal of inventions couldn't accomplish, then make something that could. A simple goal with a very complex pathway to the end.

Meanwhile, Trevor was telling Blitz about all the places he had seen in his travels - from the sounds of it, he frequented the major cities and a number of the major sight-seeing spots, like Hosenka and the academies. One that he made a note of specifically was the layers of ruins below Tessera. "I've been there at least once," Blitz said, trying to think back to the last time he was actually there. It had been some time, at least a year. "To be honest, it still surprises me a little that the whole place is stable, considering it's essentially a stack of ruined buildings with the nicer buildings on the top. If it wasn't surrounded by earth on all sides, I suspect it would have collapsed some time ago. I've been to alot of places, myself - listing them would be faster if I just said where I hadn't been yet," he added with a chuckle. Trevor's own question was about Blitz's home - less about the 'where' and more about the 'how'. "Pieces at a time, like you might imagine. Not going to lie, it took awhile, but eventually I got everything set up nice and proper for myself."

"And cold." Shoop noted.

Blitz sighed. "You're going to complain about that until the end of time, aren't you? You know I prefer the cold to the heat."

"Yes, but living on Mount Hakobe because you like the cold is like getting lost in the desert because you want a tan." Shoop shot back.

The banter between the man and his hat was definitely entertaining. It was clear that there was a great deal of affection between the two of them. It was enjoyable and kept his mind off all of the hours of walking they were doing. It wasn’t that he minded, he was quite fit but it could get a bit dull without some distraction. Tervor remarked, “The underground has some new denizens. They are distinctly unpleasant and I sincerely hope they do not escape.”

After shivering at the thought, Trevor tried to focus on what Blitz was saying about his home. He answered, “It is not everyone who can say their home is set up as they like it. You are a lucky man, Blitz. You seem to have achieved most of what you set out to have. I do not really know if I shall ever be in that position.”

As they wound their way through the forest, the lanky youth queried, “Have you faced many dangers in your time? I imagine you have seen some truly terrifying things. Even I have and I am much younger than you are.”

Blitz glanced at Trevor as he mentioned the creatures lurking underneath the ruins of Tessera, or above, or within, depending on how you looked at it. "Really now?" Blitz asked. "I hadn't heard of any dangerous creatures roaming that area. Not that they're obligated to inform me about the goings-on below the surface," Blitz added. "Though usually stories about stuff like that tends to travel a bit. Usually the worst you hear about Tessera is stuff like bandits and things like that - opportunists and the like that prey on lone travelers and people who managed to find something of high value in their excavations."

"If they're concerned about it escaping, though, I can head over and take care of it," Blitz added. "Normally, if they had a monster crawling around some ruins or a cave, they'd just stay away or seal the place off, but with Tessera, the ruins being right below the city kinda rules out the first option, and with the ruins being the main reason everyone visits Tessera - and that some of the artifacts found down there go towards the city itself - the second option isn't viable, either."

Trevor seemed impressed that Blitz had his ideal home. "Only because I've had years to do it," Blitz noted. "Given enough time, you'll surely manage the same feat."

Trevor asked about Blitz's own run-ins with dangers, as well. "I've seen a number of dangers. I've dealt with bandits, assassins, demons, elementals, rogue knights, rogue mages, freezing oceans, even an active volcano. Twice."

"Speaking of..." Blitz said, glancing up ahead. There was a man in what appeared to be all black garb, with a pair of swords crossed on his back, neither drawn just yet, the man himself having black hair tied into a short ponytail. "Can I help you, sir?"

Blitz blinked and snatched at the air with one hand. When he opened it, a shruiken was in it. "What...." Blitz said, about to ask, only to glance back up at the stranger and see a swordpoint going right for his eye. Blitz grabbed the sword before it touched him with his metal hand. "Oy," Blitz said with irritation, his mechanical hand flexing as it crunched the sword in his grip, shattering it in half. "What's your deal?"

"You're better that I thought you'd be, but I won't give up so easily, beast." the newcomer said.

A surprisingly bleak expression crossed Trevor’s face as Blitz spoke of heading to Tessera to “take care of” the threat. He said, “I am not sure they’ll have much choice about stopping it. The creature that is down there is not of this plane of existence. It is a Hell Lord named Yxtraggoth. I was with a powerful demon hunter and he was unable to stop it. I do not doubt your strength but this is something that will require a much more concerted effort.”

He lapsed into silence at the thought of what had happened to his friend Julian down there. The jolt up his arm as he’d had to cleave his only real friend’s arm from his body still haunted his nightmares. The look in Julian’s demon-possessed eyes also stayed with him.

However, the teenage swordsman’s mind was soon focused violently on the present time. The man who’d appeared in front of them attacked without warning and with blurring speed. Trevor was shocked by the reactions that Blitz offered to the situation even as his training forced him to draw his sword. His body easily fell into a combat stance as he said, “Blitz? What’s going on? Do you know this man? He appears to know you!”

Trevor got an odd look when Blitz mentioned that he'd deal with the creature lurking below - it wasn't a look of doubt, as if he didn't think Blitz was strong enough, but more that he seemed to know something about how strong the monster itself was, which caused him to doubt in general when he stacked his own strength up against that of the monster's. He seemed somewhat disquieted by the fact that the monster wasn't from this plane of existence - something Blitz was no stranger to. Hell, he'd even traveled to other planes of existence himself to help deal with problems, though he kept that to himself, as Trevor seemed to have enough on his mind already.

"I see." Blitz said. "Well, no disrespect to your demon hunter friend, but I think a Hell Lord is a manageable threat. I actually ended up facing off against one, years ago - one of them liked the idea of moving to the surface world, but had some sort of issue with the atmosphere here - that, or he wanted to bring his home along for the ride with him, because he tried to raise a plane of Hell where Hosenka Spa stands. I ran around the city destroying seals while my friend Alfeo got some people to safety, then we faced off against the demon lord - well, I did, Alfeo and I both dealt with the ninjas, the army hired by the conspirators that were the guy's agents on the earthly plane. Sounds ridiculous, but it's true."

After the fellow who ambushed them called out, Trevor already had his sword drawn, asking Blitz if he knew the guy. "Never seen him before, but clearly he has some kind of bone to pick with me." Blitz said, before saying to the newcomer, "Don't suppose you'd be willing to tell us who you are? Or more importantly, why exactly you're trying to kill me off?"

"I've heard that you could be found in this area," the man said, "But I didn't think I'd find you this soon! Such luck!" the man said with a dark grin as he hurled more shruikens Blitz's way, Blitz deflecting them off to one side with his metal arm, away from Trevor. "The heck is this guy's problem?" Blitz wondered aloud.

There was no time to continue their discussion of the fight against a Hell Lord and its ease or lack thereof because their interlocutor seemed bound and determined to wreak some havoc. As the exchange between Blitz and the unknown man continued, Trevor began slowly edging towards the side of the path. He was hoping that the man’s attention would remain on Blitz so that he could work his way closer.

His sword master had always taught him to take advantage of every opportunity in a fight. Distraction was a distinct opportunity but he’d have to go carefully. He wouldn’t do well in a full-on fight against a superior fighter, but if he could knock the man in the head or at least divert his attention, it might give Blitz the opening he needed to strike.

Although he still had some of the bad risk assessment skills of his age group, he had also been trained for most of his life in the art of combat. One of the lessons that had been drilled into him was that charging blindly into a situation often resulted in your severe injury or death as well as that of your companions. He just kept edging along slowly, trying to make his movements as subtle as he could, hoping that their assailant would be most interested in Blitz.

While Trevor was busy sliding off to one side, hoping to flank the attacker, Blitz was defending, but still rather confused. The man seemed convinced that Blitz was the one that he was looking for, but he'd never seen or heard of this guy before, and his facts didn't seem to match up - he mentioned that he'd he could be found in this area, but he didn't frequent Lavender Forest very often. It WAS at the base of Mount Hakobe, but he just passed through it now and then, and if flying above the treeline didn't count, then he passed through it even less than that. It just seemed like incredibly vague information to go on for him to be so certain he had found his target.

"Exactly why are you looking for me, anyway?" Blitz said. "If you just wanted a strong foe, surely I wasn't the closest option to...wherever it is that you came from."

"Perhaps not, but you made an ideal target for testing my skills, as you have the best defense of the known targets. Of the targets nearby, I couldn't be sure they'd survive if I turned my wrath on them." The man's gaze flickered over to Trevor. "For example!" he said, hurling a flurry of shruikens in his direction. Blitz cursed under his breath - those would be moving too fast for Trevor to dodge them all in time - and Blitz shot over, across the forest's mossy ground and between Trevor and the incoming shruikens, deflecting them as before.

Or that was the plan, anyway. As soon as they made contact with Blitz's arm, they suddenly exploded, though thanks to Blitz's semi-burly frame, the explosions didn't reach Trevor. The man, meanwhile, laughed. "You need to dodge my Carnage Barrage, not block it." The man's laughter paused when the smoke cleared and Blitz was revealed....unharmed, no less, though there was a scratched spot on his metal arm.

If Blitz expected the man to be disappointed, he was mistaken - the man actually grinned. "Ideal defenses indeed. Getting past your defenses will make for a fine test of my skills!" the man said, taking another pose. Blitz sighed, shaking his head. Some people never gave up.

It was an annoying fact but Trevor had a long way to go when it came to ability in battle. Despite his extensive training and forced marches through the rough terrain of his homeland, he was hardly a seasoned combat veteran. He was embarrassed by how easily the man had dismissed him and was unsure of how he could proceed. He wouldn’t fancy his chances against their assailant in hand to hand combat either. It occurred to the lanky youth that he hadn’t seen Crash since they’d left Trillium. He wondered if the drone was around and what he might do to aid Blitz. Did Crash follow along discreetly or was he still back in town? Now wasn’t the time for this line of inquiry.

There didn’t seem to be much for him to do but observe, “If you required Blitz to test your skills, I have no doubt there are less obtrusive ways to conduct such a test. His prowess as an inventor undoubtedly means he could construct a device to aid you in more thoroughly assessing your talents. This is a rather inefficient way to experiment with those abilities that you possess.”

Feeling like a spectator was decidedly annoying for the lanky youth. He had managed to escape some fairly tough scrapes but he had to admit that he was outclassed thoroughly in this situation. Any attack he made would likely fail.
