"Witch hunt?" Desire wondered silently with not a little surprise. "I wonder what she must have done to have become the subject of such activities...." Whichever the case, it wasn't likely that the nerdy-looking girl with glasses would be witch-hunted in Magnolia, unless she actually did something nasty, or unless she was already wanted in Magnolia, in which case, just coming to the city for the sake of such a low-ranked mission was rather foolhardy. Desire turned with a raised eyebrow to look at the black cat, who seemed uneasy with her antics. There were a number of things that could be said to the Take Over mage that would get her temper over five hundred degrees, but fortunately, calling her crazy wasn't one of them. "Mmm, so you've had a record of running into crazy girls, have you?" she asked Hex with an amused smile. "Don't worry, 90 percent of the population of Earthland are stark and raving mad. 6 percent have a few screws loose. The remaining 2 percent are the stuff of nightmares. The sooner you adjust to that unfortunately poorly-believed fact, that no one is really sane, the safer you'll be. Anyway, you needn't be scared of me... I won't eat you... I suppose." Her lips cracked into a wide grin bordering on manic, as her voice lowered to the decibel range of almost a whisper, though Hex could still hear her, "there may be other things to do with cats, but cat meat may not taste nice. Whatever." Then she threw back her head again and laughed with the gusto of one who was thrilled with the prospect of performing an exciting new activity, and then turned her attention to Cleia. She had no ill will towards Hex, she just felt mischievous at the moment. A stroke of luck revealed that the three girls were going on the same mission. "I'm not against us working together," Desire replied to Cleia's latest question, since it's not gonna affect how much we're getting paid, it seems. "And I'll try not to have a problem with you doing the talking, Shortstuff, although if this client does not remember her manners...." She let the matter hang. "Well, let's go. The sooner we do this, the better!" |

Desire's reaction caused both Syeena and Hex to have a 'dread drop' fall from their heads as they realized she was a bit... awkward. As Hex had so put it, they had a bad luck running into crazy girls. "I really am a bad luck magnet, aren't I?" Hex replied with a sarcastic tone, laughing at her own expense being a black cat. Syeena merely patted Hex on the head and scratched the back of her neck to comfort her. All that aside, Syeena was pleased to hear they were all on the same mission. After a bit of thinking, tilting her glasses, Syeena agreed it was a good idea. "Sounds like a plan then, " Syeena replied. "We still don't know the details of this kind of mission but Hex and I are happy to work together. Right Hex?" Syeena said. "Sure, I suppose... but don't you try to cheat us out of our pay either. A kitten has to eat," Hex said, licking her paw to groom her whiskers. After Syeena rolled her eyes at Hex's warning, she followed Cleia to the place they were to meet the client. |

Cleia smiled and rubbed her hands together. Everyone had agreed to work together, and so it would be much easier to accomplish this mission. What was next on the 'to-do' list was to find the location of the client, and that was not going to be difficult. Since Cleia knew her way around Magnolia, the address was very familiar to her. It was not a quarter she often visited, though, because this section of Magnolia belonged to the affluent members of the society. The journey to the place was not long, and soon enough, Cleia stopped outside a massive gate, looked once at the mission paper in her hand, nodded and turned to the others. "So, this is the place. Remember, Didi, I do the talking... and no matter how it looks, I've got it all under control." The large black gate was locked, and there was no one in sight between the gate and the mansion, which stood some distance off. Glancing around for something that could alert the inhabitants of the house, Cleia noticed a doorbell, which she pressed once. For a moment, nothing seemed to happen, then presently, a stout man strode towards them. His two major defining characteristics were his mustache, which was rather long and curled, and the fact that he was more round in shape than he was tall. Cleia did not expect him to open the gate immediately, and he did not disappoint, but stood a few meters off and said in a gruff voice: "What can this estate help you with, citizens?" Cleia answered courteously. "Good afternoon, sir. We came in response to a distress summons. I believe a certain 'Sweetpea' is missing, and our services are required to find it." The man nodded once, turned sharply on his heel, and strode back to the building. A few moments later, there was a loud clank, and the gates opened of their own accord, allowing the three mages passage. The courtyard before the house was grassy and spacious, and the whole place looked pleasant, but a little too expensive. At the door of the mansion, they were ushered in by a mousy servant girl, who directed them to a 'waiting room'. She departed, leaving the girls to their thoughts for a while. Eventually, a door opened, and the servant girl returned, followed by a thickset woman who had too much make-up on her face, too much jewelry (in Cleia's opinion) and a very imperious air. She looked down her nose at the three girls and then said, to no one in particular, with a derogatory huff: "Are these the ruffians? They don't look like much..." |

"Don't sweat it on the 'cheating about payment' stuff," Desire said with a shrug. "Yeah, I want the money, but I'm more interested in the acclaim doing this trash'll bring. The more interesting stuff is out of reach, unless we degrade ourselves so." She sighed and shook her head. "Whatever. The sooner we're through with this, the better for everyone...." The trio made their way along a street with magnificent buildings, obviously owned by the rich. Very soon, they came to one of these properties, with a giant gate to match. "Pfft," Desire exclaimed, "like this could keep out real danger when it comes." She idly wondered how people like this had survived the demonic invasion which had razed Magnolia; she knew, because she had fought in the city. It was interesting to see how the place had quickly recovered from the ashes of its past. Anyway, this was one of the things that got Desire annoyed. Those who shed blood and sweat for the well-being of the general populace tended to be forgotten, while the cheats and more unscrupulous were those who fed fat. Part of the unfair quirks of life, it would seem. Desire wasn't even listening to Cleia, mumbling a non-committal response, as the black-haired mage addressed her. Her attention was momentarily engaged, when the butler, or whatever he was, entered the field of her Night Huntress sense; she observed his characteristics with obvious indifference, and continued her introspection. Mechanically, she followed her friend into the spacious property, noticing, although without much interest, that a lot of money had been put into the furniture. But thinking too much about the past did little for one, especially as such events could never more be changed. The present was to be enjoyed... although whatever had intruded into Desire's extrasensory field, aside the servant girl, already gave her the feeling that she wouldn't enjoy herself much today. Well, she remained staring at the portrait of the (in her opinion) ugly individual on the wall, for all intents and purposes like a block of marble, unmoving even when the client spoke. "Better take care of this as you said you would, Cleia...." she thought silently, her stony gaze on the picture. |

Now that they were all on the same page and willing to work together, Syeena proceeded with Celia and Desire towards the estate. As they soon reached the large gates, the mansion was rather ginormous! It literally was 'stinking rich' as you could smell how much care went into the lawn, flowers and building ahead of them. Syeena looked around with mild awe as she observed the detail and soon approached the door. The moment the super plain butler with the 'whiskers' came , they greeted him. "Citizens sounds like an insult to me, buddy. Now be a dear Jeeves and bring me some milk?" Hex replied in a snooty rich person tone of voice. Syeena gave a husshing sound to the cat in her arms as they soon were let in. As they walked down the hallway, they saw all kinds of valuables. Artwork, statuary, and jewels adorn in them as well. Syeena was impressed as her thief-senses were tingling with the desire of kleptomania. "Wow... I could really do a number on this place," Syeena whispered in a half joke to Cleia, out of earshot from anyone. Finally they met the woman who owned the mansion and she was indeed... words couldn't even described the mortified feelings Syeena had to her overexcess of make up, weight and rather unlady like features. Thankfully her glasses obscured her somewhat shocked look as she held Hex for security. Syeena held her tongue, not wanting to say something to anger the large lady. "Who you calling ruffians?!" Hex spoke out. Despite the rather large woman, Hex didn't hesitate to speak her mind. "You are talking to some of the classiest ladies in Fiore. How about a little common courtacy, lady." Syeena felt the sudden urge to throw Hex out the window for her sassy behavior, but in the end, even a talking cat in this case, a cat is never one to do what it was told . However, the fact there was a cute adorable black cat dressed like a witch, might appeal to this woman. |

The woman froze, her back straight and stiff, as if a jolt of electricity had passed through her. She turned very slowly and very mechanically in Hex's direction, her beady little eyes eventually coming to rest on the black cat. Cleia mentally let out a groan and bashed her head on the wall (all in the mind, of course!) as she thought of the various scenarios in which this event would play out. For now, the best thing she could do was to watch carefully, and interject an appropriate action if things got out of control. What followed was... (for lack of a better word) surprising. In the silence that had followed Hex's 'outburst', the woman had just stared at her with a shocked, but otherwise difficult to read expression. Then she said slowly: "The cat can talk..." In the next instant, the woman was virtually all over Hex, gushing on about how priceless it was for a beautiful creature as Hex to be endowed with the power of speech. Cleia had an eyebrow raised, her natural "okay-what-on-earth-is-going-on" expression, as she watched the woman. Perhaps the woman was not as bad as she'd thought... "You are indeed a marvellous and wonderful darling, aren't you? Are you hungry? Would you need some milk? Do you need soft cushions? Pillows? That's ruffian's grip might be too abrasive for your soft, velvet skin. And do pardon me, dear, but anyone who is not connected to the Crocus nobility or one of Fiore's greater houses, is technically a ruffian. The ones that call themselves mages are rogues of rogues, no doubt. Please, pay all that no heed and make yourself at home..." Cleia mentally slapped her forehead. The woman was almost worse than she thought. However, there was a very neat advantage working for them. As the matron of the estate began barkiung orders to her attendants to get Hex whatever she wanted, Cleia gave Hex a sly wink, and whispered, when the matron's back was turned: "Looks like you're our bargaining chip, Hex. I'm sure you can play this game wisely, but just don't go overboard." Cleia might not have to do much of the talking here... |

Desire turned to give her friend a sidelong glance, when Hex stood up to the rich fat woman. From Cleia, who looked worried like a cat on a termite-infested rug, she turned her gaze to the big woman staring at the black cat, who stared right back at her. As it were, the expression on the woman's face could hardly be read, and Desire could read a jumbled mix of emotions, when she tried to rely on her psychic senses. The only thing Desire could tell was that the woman was quite shocked. Then the woman began dribbling over with sentimental affection and all that nonsense. While it was mildly irritating, Desire could see a potential bargaining chip here, although it all depended on the black cat. As it were, Hex seemed to be intelligent enough, so hopefully, the three girls would be able to get away with many less insults, and Desire would be spared having to speak to the woman, which, if she had to, it was likely her words would not be nice. From the rich woman's words, she had an aristocratic background, which was why she thought everyone else was below her. Desire felt she would vomit, if she had the ability to control her peristalsis. Whichever the case, she stood there and watched, with the expression of someone who had something unpleasant crawl into her mouth and die there. Tugging at Cleia's sleeve to get the girl's attention, right after Cleia whispered to Hex, Desire whispered as well: "I sincerely hope we're not going to just stand around smiling like spineless idiots, while that bigger idiot is gushing over a cat which isn't hers, when her own is wandering the streets. Let's just tell her we're going to get her fleabag and be done with it!" She looked over at Syeena, wondering how the bespectacled girl was taking the matter. If Syeena looked at her, when the woman's back was turned, she would point a finger to her own head, and move it to draw circles, as an indication of the state of mind in which she believed the matron of the expensive property to be. |

It was a rather tense silent moment... till suddenly the woman had took Hex out from Syeena's own grasp and was immediately showering Hex with adoration! "marvellous and wonderful darling, aren't you?" she gushed, and immedately began to smother the cat into her large body in a hug. "MMRRROOOWWW!!" Hex meowed as if she was smothered with affection by the large noble woman. It only lasted a couple of seconds till the woman pulled Hex back and she finally got a breath of air. Syeena was a little put off by how Hex was rudely yanked from her arms, and then added insult to injury by referring to her holding Hex as a ruffian's abrasive skin. Syeena had an upset behind her glasses as she looked at the lady. "Excuse me... " She asked, but soon stopped when the woman explained that anyone else was considered a ruffian. With that, she kept her mouth shut for the moment and continued to play the nicer girl act oppose to her more rebellious nature. But her skin was fair, not callous! Hex struggled a bit, but then the mention of milk did indeed tickle her fancy and whiskers as she stopped. "Um.... well if you are offering, I love milk. :3 " Hex replied with a purr. Replying to Cleria and Desire, Syeena turned to them. "Somehow I doubt Hex is the one to go overboard here," Syeena said to them, and still listened to the woman. "Um... if I may, perhaps you can describe your lost pet and where you last saw it? " Syeena asked. |

"That's what I paid you ruffians for, isn't it? To find my Sweetpea. So, what are you lot waiting for? Be off with you and return my darling to me," the thickset woman said impatiently, as she let Hex down on the velvet rug. A bowl of warm, fresh (and whatever other adjectives cats would like) milk had been prepared for the black cat, which she would no doubt enjoy. Unfortunately, and annoyingly, the woman still did not seem to hold the mages in any higher regard than when she had first seen them. "I believe my friend here asked you to describe your pet, so that we could start looking for it," Cleia replied patiently, though she was not smiling. "Even the finest detective around would have to be given some clue to start off with..." "Oh my Sweetpea! If anything has happened to you...!" The woman obviously was not listening to them, as she suddenly seemed on the verge of breaking down into a hysterical fit. "Howard!" the woman screeched, causing the short stout creature who had let them in to come running. "Show them where it happened." Thus saying these words, the woman abruptly departed to some yonder room upstairs, leaving the mansion staff muttering how much power this Sweetpea had over the madam of the house. Howard, for his part, being all business and such, gestured to the quartet (counting Hex, of course) and marched briskly to the back of the mansion. On getting to the back, they would notice a large hole somewhere in the fence, with a lot of glitter around it. Howard looked at the scene, then turned to face the girls. "Miss Sweetpea escaped through this hole, as was reported by certain eyewitnesses. Thus, we can say that she is not on the mansion grounds, but she cannot have gone far. Oddly, I am not permitted to inform you of the exact details concerning Miss Sweetpea's appearance, but you have your work cut out for you, I believe. Just follow the glitter trail, and you will find Miss Sweetpea." |

Desire wanted to find a vase, or any other suitable earthenware article, and fling it as hard as she could at the woman's head, while said lady continued to gush over Hex, probably not hearing what the black cat's owner had just said. When Cleia was patient enough to repeat the bespectacled girl's words, the woman went hysteric, and began screeching. If she didn't stop soon, the three girls would end up probably failing the mission, and that due to Desire stuffing things forcibly into the loud woman's mouth. Very soon, the mustached fellow, who incidentally was called Howard, came running, to whom the irritating woman issued a command as regarding him showing the group where some event occurred. Then the woman vanished, with the mansion staff expressing their thoughts on the matter. "I have just two words," Desire said, turning to Cleia and Syeena, just before they followed Howard. "'Eww', and 'eww'." Howard led the girls to the backyard, to a hole in the fence, through which he announced that Sweetpea had escaped. Surprisingly, he refused to divulge the matter of Sweetpea's appearance, making Desire even more disgusted. "So, if we come back with a two-headed mutant goldfish covered with glitter, your dame had better be ready to pay us our due, even if said two-headed beauty isn't her Sweetpea," the pink-haired girl announced in a rather peeved tone. Then she turned to Cleia and Syeena once again. "This is why we shouldn't be so nice to that lump of lard," she stated in a voice too low for Howard to hear. "There are a few things I've seen about her; I could get her to be at least cordial to us, or pay her for her rudeness, the latter of which I most certainly will do, when this travesty is over, unless that overgrown scamp does something to change my mind, which is unlikely. Just informing, for those of us who are supposed to keep up with the irritating facade of politeness, which I must add, is rather useless." She had her arms folded with her eyes closed and her nose up in the air, a dramatic picture of petulance. |
