FTG's Most Gentlemanly Snake of 2016

Alexis Cicada, an aspiring knight and brilliant fighter with a formidable body and temper was busy squealing to notice the strike of the noon hour in Magnolia. After twenty straight minutes of non-stop trying, she had finally managed to catch the duck damned koi in the duck damned paper ring-thing. The game was most-obviously not rigged, though her shouts of frustration after the third attempt suggested otherwise. She was the only one playing the game as she furiously dove the paper into the water, surrounded the squirmy, hate-filled koi and watched it tear with at least three of the folds in her brain. This game was expensive and surely would've cleared her out on the tenth attempt if she hadn't won a lottery a few weeks before the festival. Not the amazing kind of lottery that would let her buy those sexy-ass dumbbells she saw the same week, but one that allowed her the entire day of free festival games. So, Alexis decided to get the most out of it. While the koi returned to the trough it was lifted from, she was given a large, stuffed animal in the shape of a children's manga character that she secretly adored. She held the thing tight, 2foot of fluff to her body as she walked proudly from the stand in search of new lands to conquer. Her eyes fell upon another version of this cat character. A bigger version. A fluffier version. She needed it. Without a second though, the very slightly soaked young lady started toward the shooting gallery. |

Out of sheer luck, or perhaps someone would say in reward for a good deed, of all the merchants that Lysus ended up traveling with, of all the roads they could have shared, of all the items that had been carried by the merchant, she managed to assist in the one situation that needed her expert usage of her fan staff. That is, really, just attracting a frightened mule from behind its hiding tree back to its owner by repeatedly opening and closing the fan of the staff. She never thought her creation would be used in this manner, but, all's well that led to it. Heck, the mule almost slobbered on it. Lysus stayed on the same route as the traveling merchant, though mostly out of having a shared destination. Sometimes that person talked, sometimes the mule huffed, most times Lysus simply listened. Stories from those experienced on the road were always a treasure, she could agree. It was only when they neared the gates did the merchant stop once again, though this time with a look of gratitude. Apparently they had managed to win a lottery that graced them with a free day for the carnival in town, but with being busy with their wares, it was wasted on them. She found herself unable to decline. Perhaps spending some time playing games would do well for the traveler? It certainly did sound fun. Lysus smiled at seeing all the families, couples, individuals, and the whole crowd that both meandered and excitedly flitted about. What could she start with? The sound of shooting caught her ears, not dangerous gunshots mind, but the sound of careful aiming and shouts of glee. Well. She didn't have too bad of an eye, she hoped, and turned toward the booth's direction. A couple was already leaving with a prized sack of fluff in their arms. From here, she could see the majority of the game. It looked simple, ten cups stacked, knock the pyramid's second layer and higher down with up to two shots. A lot of the prizes only grew in size the higher the reward, which wasn't something Lysus could afford to carry around. But hey, free play! Closer and closer, she could see the shapes of rifles. It mainly reminded her that she still needed to find gloves for travel. Maybe there was a booth somewhere that gave out gloves as a prize... doubt it, with all the children and adults walking around with stuffed, admittedly plump, toys. |

While normally the teachers of the Lucifuge were a bunch of strict tight asses, insisting on extreme training every day, apparently Eru had done something to impress them in his lessons, possibly in relation to him mastering a new way to use his magic. Or maybe one of them finally remembered that demon blood or not he was still 15, and less than a year ago still a normal teenager. Regardless of the reason, that had given him the day off, as well as enough jewels to actually go to a fair they were holding in Magnolia. Not one to question acts of kindness, even if they were completely out of character and unexpected, he had made his way to the fair as quickly as he could. Their only restriction was that he still had to take his sword with him, just in case, they said, but he had it peace-tied and out of the way and strived to ignore that he had it on him when he was here to relax and have fun. The fair was alive with numerous sounds and sights, the laughter of children and colourful banners and tents; and all sorts of people playing all sorts of games and just...looking so happy. Well mostly happy, there was the occasional person screaming bloody murder about a contest being rigged, but Eru figured that couldn't be helped. Asides they couldn't be that rigged with people running around hugging plush toys taller than they were. While the games did seem fun, the demon-boy had something even more important to take care of now that he was here, his mouth watering as he thought about it. It wasn't long until Eru had his prize, the most obscenely sized chunk of fairy floss ever, perhaps larger than a small child. Half of it pink, half of it blue, all of it pretty much diabetes on a stick. Not even caring he was showing off his pointed canines with every oversized bite, he tore into the candy like he hadn't eaten in weeks. Sugar based awesome in hand, he walked around the fair as he consumed it, looking for an interesting game to follow up to it. |

Wow. That. That went badly. Alex strode confidently toward a large booth, designed similar to everything else. Blue ribbons and banners adorned the white-painted wooden booth where a tall, top-hatted man stood and grinned and barked out his advertisement for the game. It was, as she predicted, a shooting gallery. In triangular stacks of 10, tin cans stood and waited to be knocked down by the small weapons some 20 metres away. Alexis grinned and took her spot on the far left of the booth, flashing her golden lottery ticket to the boothmaster and pulled the gun from it's holster in the counter. There were six stalls at the booth, three on the right with blue guns, three on the left with pink guns. Alexis examined the small firearm that was made obvious to not be dangerous. Made of a cool plastic, the brightly painted weapon had lachryma blanks, ones that cause impact but can't hurt people. It had no safety catch or anything like that, just a trigger, a battery for a magazine and a chain keeping it connected to the booth. She was told each try gave her two shots before the tins were reassembled. Without further ado, she smiled and tried her best. With one hand gripping the weapon, she instantly felt uneasy and awkward with the weapon in her fully stretched, muscular arm. She took a pot-shot, aiming down a tilted sight and jumped out of her skin when the gun made a loud crack and recoiled violently. With an uncharacteristic squeak, the gun jolted out of her hand and clattered loudly onto the counter. She blinked and her cheeks burned in embarrassment, some others enjoying her little mistake. The boothmaster said nothing, handling a new customer, a shorter young lady in a stylish beret and billowy dress. After a moment, Alexis picked the gun back up and aimed harder, taking the same stance and firing, managing to keep a good grip on the weapon. Sadly, she missed completely, the small poof of air hitting the back curtain a few metres left of the tins. A robotic sound of a gun reloading echoed out of a speaker on the side, Alex guessed that's how it reset the round, or something. She then sighed and scratched her head, looking over to the giant cat plushie and then the new girl to see how/what she was doing. |

Well. She didn't have too bad of an eye. Just, she didn't have a good enough one. By the time Lysus reached the booth, there were still others there. She had briefly took note of the current shooters-- a snickering child and a tall female whose clumsiness was being snickered at. At the sight of the mage's lottery ticket, the booth's owner scratched the back of their head at the coincidence of another lottery ticket winner, but seeing as it was also valid, they only shrugged and allowed Lysus to pick a rifle. A blue was the closest, so Lysus set aside her staff and handled the tethered item gently. It felt relatively light, as expected of something that was only supposed to imitate the real thing. Still, it was comfortable in her hands as she looked at the pyramids. From watching the other female, it seemed the battery-powered rifles still packed quite a recoil. Lysus offered an unseen smile at the woman's underestimation, and waited until she was finished. Not that Lysus thought she could do better, but she felt it best to not distract someone if she could help it. And now, she brought the rifle up and aimed at her own stack. There was something similar to a cross hair, but, it was tiny enough to be realized as mainly for decoration's sake. It was still something to aim the barrel, she guessed, but it wasn't like Lysus was going to complain. Or could, really. Breathing evenly, Lysus aimed at the bottom tier of the stack. Just like how her brother did all those years ago in a similar game... She fired twice without a pause. The uppermost, tippy-toppy cup rattled from almost being grazed, but otherwise the stack remained unchanged. Lowering the rifle, Lysus didn't notice herself frowning at how bad of a shot she was. It was fun trying, and it would've been more fun actually succeeding, but she didn't want to repeat the same game for the entire day just because she had access, so she set the 'rifle' back into its slot. They weren't real anyway, and she hasn't held one in a year or so. She noticed the other female still there, and offered a quiet smile to both of their misses. It had been fun to try either way, and there were other games to try. |

Passing by various stalls and dodging small children running past him without a care in the world he found himself stopping to watch several people use a plastic rifle to try and shoot over stacked cups; which in itself didn't look too hard but he wasn't going to judge when he was a terrible shot himself, much more comfortable with anything he could get up close with and use his muscles. Devouring more fairy floss like he was trying to give himself hyperglycaemic shock his tail coiled around his torso a little tighter as he spotted something more his style, a game involving a raw contest of strength and a mallet. The announcer for the game was encouraging people to come play while explaining the quite simple rules, hoping to entice people in. Using the giant hammer, simply slam a metal plate, the force of it moving a weight up a board with measurements and points. The further you knocked the weight up, the better the prizes were. If you were strong enough to knock the weight all the way to the top and ring the bell there, the top prize were plushies larger than a small child that were, 'so fluffy you'll die holding them'. Possible adorable rewards aside, which Eru most definitely wasn't interesting in honest, this was more his type of game, so he agreed to take a crack at it. The man running the game took one look at Eru, and let a grin cross his face that suggested 'yeah, right, you don't have a chance at this'. Well nothing like a challenge to make things more interesting, the demonic mage finding someone to hold his things and making a little show out of the proceedings. While true Eru wasn't the strongest, his infernal legacy made him much stronger than his appearance should suggest, picking up what should have been a two-handed sledgehammer in one hand, before gripping it properly and swinging, a flickering a blue flame horns appearing for just an instant as he slammed the weapon home. While not scoring the top prize, he did still do better than most of the adults he had watched try before his turn, a smug look on his face as he turned to the operator, "So what do I win?" |

Freeing up space for others as she left the booth, staff in hand more comfortably than any gun could, Lysus didn't have to walk far to discover another fun game. It was another festival norm: power testing via hammer! Currently, there was cheering, clapping, and even muffled laughing and snickering as Lysus walked forward to see who had just won. There stood a young boy, definitely taller than her but maybe near her age so maybe not a boy, looking rightfully prideful. She could see his teeth as he spoke smiling, but even as the man looked half apologetic, part embarrassed, maybe even partially irked, he did offer a choice between beanie hats patterned like a dog, a cat, a fish, or a cactus. There was someone else standing near the duo trying not to look too congratulatory yet was so obviously impressed, and who unbeknownst to Lysus was the person holding onto the bo- guy's stuff. Thinking it was a line to try the game, and spurred by the guy's success to want to try too, Lysus stepped forward to stand behind him. She knew she wasn't strong, but the game looked fun anyway, and it wasn't every day that she could swing down a mallet with the express purpose of smashing it into something. Heh. Being this close though, the impressed person turned around to the sound and moved out of the way for her. It hadn't been a line, and the crowd and even some kids were staying once they saw there was another person up to swing. Well, maybe the kids were just waiting their turn now. They looked like they were waiting for the guy to leave first, but then came this lady just waltzing right up. She hadn't meant to be assertive! But then Lysus determined that thought to be silly, and so waved at the three and more so at the man running the game after the prize would be chosen. Letting her staff lean against her shoulder in her elbow, she'd show her free play admittance in one hand and hold up her memo pad in the other: 【 I can't talk. I'd like to play. 】 Only after an ample amount of time for the man to read would she pocket the note, grab her staff, and place it... hmm. |
