For the last few months, there was a member of Raven Tail who had been instructed to lie low. It wasn't often that this was necessary, but in the case of the particular member... well, the Knights were keeping an eye open for him. Unfortunately, that eye had spotted him. According to his sources, the Raven was being transferred to a Knight-sanctioned prison in Magnolia, leaving Julian plenty of chances to spring him before he was trapped in a high-security facility. Julian boarded the train at Oshibana: the number 9 to Magnolia. There wasn't any record of a prisoner transfer on board... although, there never was. It wasn't exactly something that one would advertise, in case the likes of Julian were sent to interfere. Fortunately, the Flock had an in with the local law enforcement. Despite the lack of evidence, this was the train he was looking for. It was only a matter of finding out where the prisoner was being kept. For now, however, Julian was content with finding his seat. There would be plenty of time during the trip to spring his guild-mate, but for now Julian needed to prepare. Timing was of the essence, and while Julian had been given instructions to free the prisoner, he had not been given a specific itinerary. Yes, the plan for releasing the prisoner and escaping the train was left entirely the Julian... perhaps it was meant to be a test of his abilities. Only time would tell how that would turn out. "Well, it's a long ride, yeah?" he mused, "Might as well take a fiver." As Julian sat, he thought more about the mission at hand. As far as a prisoner transport went, it was likely that the Knights wouldn't want to be disturbed. That means they would likely have reserved the rear car for their purposes... no traffic from other cars to worry about, and they could just lock up and hunker down for the majority of the trip. Seemed like the most logical option... For now, however, Julian kicked up his feet, not too worried, for the moment, about the task at hand. |

It was important to understand that the means of escorting this prisoner wasn’t a mundane thing. No, it had to be clear to Shizuka that he was not being ordered around by those bullying superiors of his the moment his direct superior was out on duty, thus he lay in the mercy of those scoundrels who saw fit to push the legwork to the younger ones while they busy themselves with windows of the offices and make home the desk affairs where one can wonder if any work was really being done when stacks of reports were only rising on each desk as opposed to have been checked. Clearly, he did not like those kinds. They besmirch the reputation of the knights that Shizuka had grown to respect, so it was best to keep rising until he could be one of those pillars to reconstruct the organisational ladder and be done with those paperweights. But telling yourself of the significance of a task was one thing, and believing it was another. And while it was important to note that this prisoner was on the watch list for a while now, it was also disconcerting that he was so easily dispatched alone. This was truly a bullying tactic if anything. He’d rather be out there collecting information rather than simply escorting. But perhaps the only source of pride he had in this task was the opportunity of what he truly wanted. This prisoner was part of a certain guild whose reputation is quite encompassing. Perhaps he can make use of this opportunity to gain some insights and favour in his direction. He reviewed the briefing once more as he glanced upon the prisoner sitting in the cabin, guarded by two more knights, cuffed in anti-magic chains both hands and legs. He could tell that this was a sign that he may be important, if not dangerous, and so he wondered why the higher-ups would approve a transfer using the train. Was this just a gimmick? Or was this to quicken the transfer? Or maybe, he thought and wished he didn’t, this was a fault in the system for something to happen, something planned to happen. He’d rather not think conspiracies exist within an order that proved loyalty above all else, but perhaps… that nagging doubt always spoke the loudest at times like these. In any case, he folded the report and placed it in the inner pocket of his black coat jacket and nodded at the two knights in the cabin. A wordless instruction. He then stepped out of the cabin and locked the door from outside. He assessed the small corridor of this coach, first class, quite unsuspecting of moving a prisoner, really. But it was quite astonishing the feat that this transfer was proving itself to be. He didn’t think it was necessary to waste such money for a prisoner alone. But to occupy the entire coach was absurd. He’ll have to report this to his direct superior later on. In the mean time, he went to inspecting each of the empty cabins along the corridor before stopping by the door that connected to the next coach. Only his footsteps trailed behind him, a confident cadence knowing his articles are well prepared about him. |

Julian hadn't wanted to work alone on this mission, but the guild wasn't able to spare any other members of the guild. Even his fellow Royals were too busy to lend a hand. Still, that didn't mean that Julian would be working alone. Just that he wasn't going to be getting any outside help. It was only a matter of getting his mark out of his cuffs so that he can aid in his own escape. Easy right? He just had to find a way to get around the Knights and use his magic to unlock the cuffs. It wouldn't be the first time he'd sprung a prisoner this way, although the last time, it wasn't at the behest of a criminal organization. The stakes were higher this time. Julian smiled, digging his heels into the carpet and worming his way deeper into the worn cushioned seat. Last time he had been on a train like this, he had to contend with a damned hell-beast. Now, he realized, the damned hell-beast wasn't an outside force. Julian looked over the tattoo that Callahan had given him, the skin was still sore, and according to the old man, the demon wouldn't be truly sealed until it had time to heal. It was possible... that the demon could take control at any moment of weakness. Julian hadn't slept in two full days. His eyes drooped and his head dipped, causing him to sit up straight, clapping his hands into his lap. "Coffee! They gotta have some in tha dinin' car, yeah?" Julian headed out, closing his compartment behind him. The dining car was adjoining to the one he had gotten into, part of the reason he'd decided to sit here. He wondered if he would be able to catch a cigarette there, too. Not every train had a smoking section, but he hoped this one did. It would be a pain in the ass to stand in-between the cars, but regardless, nicotine was a stimulant, right? It wouldn't hurt to keep himself alert, especially since he had been avoiding sleep like the plague. He wasn't going to give Rafiel another chance to escape... not like in Magnolia. The Flock probably wouldn't be too happy with his conduct on this mission. He wasn't as prepared as he should have been... but they didn't know what it was like, either. It wasn't just the fear that the demon would do something that Julian would regret, but the process wasn't exactly pleasant either. If his superiors knew what it felt like, they probably wouldn't blame Julian for his self-induced sleep deprivation... At least, that's how Julian rationalized it to himself. |

Shizuka went past the door of the first coach and saw that the connecting bridge between coach was a meter-long ramp with heavy iron clamps that clasp about securely with an iron chain. It wasn’t one of those more modern type of trains where coaches were connected more closely, if not seamlessly. This would prove problematic later on if ever something were to happen along the way. He did not want to think it would eventually happen, but he knew better than to not expect the unexpected. From there, Shizuka surveyed around him as the wind blew against his face. The path the train tracks were built on seemed just enough for its iron stalwart which would make it difficult for mounting or dismounting the train while it ran. At least he wouldn’t have to worry about the prisoner trying to escape. Still, he kept a wary watching around just to make sure. He was vigilant, almost too vigilant, especially when he was tasked with something like this, even if it felt a little too suspicious. He ought to file a complaint next time to the Captain, about task appointments and perhaps he could have a better option of transport. Trains were just too risky. As he closed the door behind him, he made a double check just to make sure the door was secured before he went over the ramp as deftly as he could despite the train’s shaking. He reached the door that led to the next coach and entered it. Immediately, the setting was stark contrast. This was the saloon coach, were to the side was a small bar where a bartender was mixing some spirits for a few patrons seated on stools bolted to the floor to keep them from falling, unless they were too drunk to even balance themselves on chairs, and then to other side were small booths for diners of gourmet plated dishes. The fume of smoke from lit cigarettes made one part of the coach look foggy but a magical apparatus on the walls kept the smoke from entering the booths’ section. He supposed this was just proper for those who didn’t really fancy smelling like cigars. In any case, he didn’t attract much unwanted attention since everyone minded their business, and the waiters were coming and going from the opposite end of the coach which he figured led to the kitchen coach. This train was the One-day Express, which meant that breakfast and lunch was served on board, a rather prestigious train to be honest, and again he wondered just why the higher ups would bother to use this to transport a prisoner. A likely way to spend more money than necessary. He waved a hand to push the fumes of nicotine away from his face as he moved past the front of the coach and carefully found himself in an empty booth, the only empty booth at that, and sat. He paused for a moment. He figured he’d observe the patrons from there and merely ordered coffee and some bread to keep his guise. All the while, his eyes lurked like they belonged to a curious cat. |

Julian moved into the dining car, quickly making a beeline for the counter. Almost as if he could sense the young thief's needs, the man behind the counter was quick to produce a mug, filling it to the brim with a dark liquid. The young thief blew away the steam before taking a small sip. Julian thanked the barista, slapping a wad of bills on the table. "Keep the change, yeah?" he murmured, "I appreciate a good cuppa." Julian pulled out a small rectangular box labeled "Acalyphan Fortunes," flipping the top open with his thumb. He bit into on of the cigarettes inside, withdrawing it from its brothers in a practiced motion. He was just about to light it when he heard someone clearing their throat. Julian looked up to see the barista jabbing a finger to a sign: Smoking ONLY in DESIGNATED AREAS. Julian nodded, making his way to the area shrouded in smoke, mug in tow. He met eyes with a man sitting across from him, seemingly relaxed by the atmosphere. Julian didn't share his deposition. He didn't like being surrounded in smoke, it wasn't really elegant in any fashion... it was dirty. Still... nicotine was a stimulant, and in Julian's sleep-deprived state, he figured he could use every bit of pep he could manage. Julian lit his cigarette, keeping an eye out for anyone who looked like they might be a member of the Knights. While he did notice some odd people, that didn't exactly mean they were Knights. Plenty of random adventurers dressed garishly, be they interested for good or ill, and as such, Julian didn't think much about the man in the blue and black parka. Instead, he was keeping an eye out for armored enemies... But found none. It wouldn't be long before he would be expected to enact his plan, and Julian wondered what the Knights might have cooked up for him. He imagined he would need to use mundane methods to unlock his cuffs, people like his target were often kept in magic-binding shackles. Luckily, years of being a thief had trained him for the eventuality... but the real question was how long he would take to free the prisoner. For the last two years, he'd barely picked locks at all, instead relying on his magic. Julian sighed. This was going to be rough, wasn't it? ((OoC: Sorry I took so long... things have been a bit crazy IRL for me, and I haven't been able to get in the right mindset to write. I'm up to it now) Edited by Fairchild, Dec 8 2015, 09:25 PM.
