The last two years had been filled with a variety of thrill, fun, and fright as they tried to make their way into Fiore - emphasis on tried. The original plans that Theodore had set had them going from Stella through Bosco, creating a simple and direct path into Fiore. Unfortunately, just before they were to execute the plans, a massive invasion involving Bosco and Fiore had gone underway. While Emiko was none the wiser, this meant trouble for Theodore, who overheard rumors of border restrictions being placed all around Bosco by the neighboring countries. This would delay their trip by at least a year, meaning that they'd have to travel through Iceberg and Seven, circling completely around Bosco, just to arrive in Fiore. Originally, Emiko would have just turned the age of nine as they entered their destination, but by the time they actually arrived, she was just a few months from being ten and a half years old. Finding one of the many benches conveniently located around the town, Emiko would take a seat and hoist her little friend up to accompany her. They had been traveling for the past two weeks on a dirt road, in which they'd have to camp out during the night as the mere thought of asking for transport from passersby could lead to an infinitesimal amount of bad situations. Certainly, it meant more time and complaining by a single party member, but in the end, she knew it would be worth it. Promising things were told about the country of Fiore, especially the guilds and culture, and they arrived at a particularly interesting time of the year as well. Halloween was looming with spooks and scares of all kinds, designed for thrill seekers of ole and new. Poor little Emiko had never experienced such an event, though she had heard great accounts of how fun they were and, "Teddy, are they really scary?" Digging through her open bag, he'd pop his fuzzy little head out to shake it, putting her concern to rest as he pulled out an apple for her to eat, "I'm not sure I want to do it..." |

"Aaah, smell that fresh fall air Persies!~" Jaxus took a deep, deep breathe of the crisp, cold air around him, making his way back into Poinsettia after quite another long journey. His clothes were abit tattered, and covered in grime, but otherwise fine. He himself had a multitude of small bandages wrapped around various parts of his body, after a very, very unfortunate encounter with a cliff side... "Caaaw!" //So coool!// Persies, atop his left shoulder, happily flapped her wings in response to the new stimuli, for her, this was her first fall season! It was filled with novel experiences! "Maaaaan, I can't wait to get a drink and kick back at the bar..." "Caa-Caaaw..." //Do you ever give it a rest...?// Jaxus' thoughts went to Jaosn's bar, and more importantly, a big decision he had to make. With Jason still gone, he'd need to open the bar at some point. The booze was getting dusty he had been gone so long...In any case, Jaxus shook off this thought, unwilling to think of the intimidating task of handing the bars management by himself in Jason's absence. "...Huh?" As Jaxus walked through the streets, he took note of a small, fuchsia haired child sitting on a nearby bench as he approached along the street, being given an apple by her teddy bear. "Huh...Wai-..." It took Jaxus a second to realize the bear was moving, but Persies had figured it out before him. "CAAAAW!" //Bunny!// "NO! BAD PERSIES!" Jaxus leaped up and gripped Persies with both hands as she flew off his shoulder, gently tucking her into his chest as he hit the ground hard, rolling afew times before landing right next to the bench Emiko was on. "Calm down Persies, I know yer' hungry but come ooon!~ It's not a rabbit, it's a teddy bear...!~ ...I think...~" "So, uh..." Quickly getting up to a sitting position, keeping Persies tucked to his side, Jaxus sat up in a criss cross fashion, looking to Emiko with a friendly, toothy smile and a chuckle. "I'm really sorry bout' my bird, she's kind of a funny one...~" "Caaw! Ca-Caaaw!" //You're one to talk!// "You be quiet, Persies...Anyway!" Jaxus rolled his eyes, before quickly observing Emiko's backpack, and more concerningly, her lack of any nearby parental figures. "Cool bear ya' got there, must be magic, right?~ Name's Jaxus, and this here is my partner, Persies.~ Did ya' happen ta' lose yer' parents somewhere? If ya' wanted, I'm part of the local guild round' here, Blue Pegasus.~ I could help ya' find them if yer' lost.~" After all, what respectable Blue Pegasus mage would leave a young girl like Emiko unattended with a free conscious. Theodore was, in a very literal sense, a demon himself. He knew that there was little in this world that could ever come close to being as frightening and terrifying as a demon bent on wrath, though he had only viewed it from one side of the glass for his life. He didn't fully comprehend the way emotions of fear worked and why humans were so afraid of such things in the first place, especially silly fears such as spiders or small spaces. However, some humans had taken advantage of this weakness, creating enterprises based on capitalizing these fears. They called these places "haunted houses" and there happened to be one here in Poinsetta that had a considerable amount of posters up, the exact same one that Emiko had found a flyer for. While Theodore had no desire to attend such an event, Emiko had shown both an abundance of interest and distress alike. He'd take pull out the flyer from the pack, place it down on the bench, and point at the picture of the haunted house before pointing at himself. "Oh, do you want to go too?" There was no way that she was going without her dear Teddy and Theodore wasn't about to leave Emiko to take care of herself, which meant that they were almost always tied to each other. However, before the stuffed bear could respond, the pair had been interrupted by a screech in the nearby vicinity. Out of habit, Theodore prepared to transform to protect his summoner, but would find that it was merely a human's pet that created such a concerning sound. With the young male and pet in tow, they headed over towards Emiko and Theodore, keeping one on edge in distrust while the other was on the edge of her seat, "Yes, he sure does look funny." She picked up Theodore by one of his arms, bringing him reluctantly in the air towards the strangers, "Oh, this is Teddy!" She pulled him close, then pointed at herself, "And I'm Emiko!" The offer to go somewhere sounded like a good time and she instantly jumped up with her answer, "Yes, please! That sounds go-" She flinched back as Theodore poked her on the nose, signaling that it was a bad idea as he shook his head, "But Teddy... Can we, please?" |

"Caa-Caaw" //What?!// Persies flapped about wildly in Jaxus' lap as he kept her tucked under both arms, still sitting criss cross. "Calm down Persies, geez..." Jaxus gently petted the bird for a moment, causing her to settle down for a moment. //She's just a kid ya' know, she didn't mean ta' hurt ya'...// "...Ca-Caaw..." //...Fine...// With a huff, Persies went limp in Jaxus arms, seemingly resigned to her current place right now. As Emiko introduced herself and her friend, Jaxus nodded with a gentle, friendly, calm smile. Yet, he was taking in his surroundings at surprising speeds. As Teddy poked her nose, Jaxus took note of the poster about the Haunted House, and more importantly, how Theodore shook his head at the girl, giving him abit more insight to the situation. //He seems to be watchin' out fer' her...// Glancing over to the backpack, a realization hit Jaxus, this young girl could be a traveler like himself! And from the looks of it, Teddy was the one who had kept her out of trouble if this was true! "Aye, nice ta' meet ya', Emiko, Teddy.~ Persies here is a girl, by the way.~" Jaxus chuckled, pointing to his avian friend with a slight chuckle. With that, he'd slowly get to his feet, dusting off his pants in an ever so casual manner. "Anyway, yer' friend Teddy doesn't seem ta' think it's a good idea, but they seem like a good natured bear.~ Looks like they care bout' ya' alot.~" Jaxus was sincere in his words, and both would perhaps realize he said this with a goofy, friendly, rather innocent grin. "But hey, ya' know...That haunted house was made by Blue Pegasus.~ It'd be super safe, and it's a really fun place.~ What'cha think Teddy? That seem fair?~" Surprisingly, Jaxus looked to Theodore, still holding his goofy, innocent grin. He had realized the bear was Emiko's "de facto" protector, but otherwise, Jaxus didn't know the situation and didn't feel right leaving Emiko unattended unless he was sure she was safe. That said, the best route to go it seemed, was trying to get Theodore's approval. |

The bird was either really bothered by something or upset because it was hungry, at least Emiko had thought, so she pulled off her backpack to retrieve some saltine crackers which she would pass a few to the stranger. He had calmed the bird already, having her tucked beneath her arms, but Emiko wasn't too convinced that it wasn't because she was hungry. Teddy felt a little bothered by the fact that she hadn't consulted him first about giving away the food that he had so tediously stolen, but he wasn't about to lose focus on what dangers this stranger could possess. Certainly, he didn't look like some hoodlum street rat, but humans were very deceptive and Theodore knew one could never be too cautious. However, Emiko had fully lost any track of the constant reminder to be safe in the presence after the bird had come into play, completely absorbing her train of thought, "Oh, it's a girl? How do you know?" She stared intensely, examining the bird without any prejudice before coming to a lackluster conclusion, "Oh, I see. She doesn't have an atomic apple like me." As the man stood up before Emiko with his pet, Theodore would climb up Emiko's shoulder and onto her head, keeping more of an eye on the wild animal than the stranger. Still hearing the conversation between the two, however, he nodded his head as the man spoke Theodore's mind. While Emiko could feel the movement upon her head, knowing full and well what Theodore was doing, she gave complete disregard to his decision, "Oh, Teddy doesn't mind. He's just a little stubborn sometimes, isn't that right?" She grabbed him from atop her head, pulling him in close and leaving him helpless to give off all the gestures that he desired to give. His head was still out though and he was able to nod his head in agreement to the offer that was given, considering that Emiko wouldn't listen to him either way. As long as this man was able to give Emiko the motivation to get through the silly haunted house that she was so dreading, perhaps it wasn't so bad an offer since it'd help conquer those nonsensical fears. "Yay! I told you he wouldn't mind. I was kind of scared to go by myself," Theodore would tilt his head towards Emiko as if he been dropped in a puddle that washed away some pride, "... but if you come, then you can make sure nothing scary gets me. Right?" |
