The blue-haired man dropped right on the spider, with an enlarged metal knuckle or something. Whatever it was he used, that seemed to instantly put the spider out of commission. That was very satisfactory, in Cleia's opinion. And it would seem that the pumpkins had mostly been smashed, sliced, or... bitten (?) to oblivion, giving our makeshift peacekeepers a little interaction time.

With the little breathing space afforded them, the blue-haired man started by greeting the two females. It would seem that he had met with the Grimoire Heart mage sometime in the past. And if he was not at loggerheads with her, dark mage as she was, then perhaps she did have many a redeeming quality. And speaking of the blue haired guy (he was polite, by the way, so that gave him some plus marks in Cleia's opinion book), she recognized him, though she had never met him in real life.

He was one of the strong mages in Fairy Tail, and he had quite some reputation, too. In fact, it was his reputation that caused her to recognize him, especially since Cleia had seen mission posters that specifically requested his services in the guild. Uh... what was his name again? Ah yes, she remembered. Blitz.

She would not have the chance to introduce herself or anything, however, as the spider that Blitz had squashed was not so squashed after all. It staggered back onto its legs, even uglier than before, thanks to its now disfigured gait. The black Exceed used some form of magic against it, which looked, and sounded like (from what the Exceed had said) bad luck inducement. The Grimoire Heart mage threw another set of cards, these ones wreathed in some sort of shadowy magic, as they streaked towards the big spider. Due to the effect of the Exceed's magic, the spider did not even try to dodge, but went blundering into the cards. It got two cards to the face, while the other four sliced through its two front legs.

The spider lurched forward, managed to regain balance with a lot of difficulty, then, to the surprise of all who could be surprised, suddenly hurled out a spray of thick webbing from what was supposed to be its maw. There was no aim to its attack, but the webs were spread over a large distance, which would make dodging via decent speed or conventional means, difficult.

"Eeeeeeeek!!!"

Cleia lost no time in throwing herself behind an overturned stall, letting the webs ensnare whatever could be ensnared there. Deciding to take the prop-turned-nuisance down once and for all, while hiding behind the stall, she summoned runes to her palm to form a sphere about the size of a golf ball. She didn't want to use the Jinrai in a place like this, as her technique had significantly improved in its destructive power. Maybe she could chuck the Jinrai into its mouth if it tried spraying webs again, or she could create a more localized explosion that would damage less things in the environment. She peeked out of her cover to see if there was any opening...

... and the spider, assuming that Blitz was the most dangerous, spewed another network o =f webs in his general direction, as it lumbered towards him.

Blitz's assistance didn't seem to be an issue with the two ladies, though with Syeena it was in question to some extent, if only by the fact that Blitz himself had to present in order to lend it. "Oh, I don't do that much anymore, not since a couple years ago," Blitz said. "But I'm not sure if it would matter if I did, as you seem to have beat me to it. At least you're not wearing it in front of a crowd of witch-hunters this time, so who knows, maybe I won't have to save both your lives again." Blitz added, matching her verbal spar with one of his own.

Hex, for once, didn't seem to feel like passing a comment - which, from Blitz's experience, nearly as rare as Shoop choosing not to comment - and instead used a burst of energy on the spider that seemed to make it more clumsy, though with most of its legs now sporting a dent, it was difficult to tell which was affecting the spider worse. Though afterward, Hex seemed to take the missed opportunity to fire off a verbal jab at Shoop. "And you're the halloween-reject fuzzball who was almost roasted! Without the witch hunt around, you should feel right at home," Shoop shot back.

The spider suddenly interrupted any further conversation, or rather, insult-swapping, as it opened it's maw and fired webbing across the room in a wide arc, clearly going for trying to tangle its targets instead of pinpoint-targeting them. Cleia ducked behind a stall and Blitz opted to dodge instead, dropping to the floor as a tangle of web shot past his head, Shoop flattening himself against Blitz's hair briefly to avoid being caught in it. Syeena probably fared okay as well, but Blitz decided to let her fend for herself for that one moment - if he had to free her again, perhaps it would tone down her commentary just a bit.

The spider, however, noting Blitz's ease of dodging the webs, perhaps, unleashed a second volley, but this time, focused on Blitz alone. "Hey Hex," Blitz said, summoning a swirling cloud of shrapnel between himself and the oncoming webbing, blocking the webbing with it as it got draped over the shrapnel like a shredded carpet. "You should recognize this one." Blitz whirled the shrapnel as the spider approached, a tornado of metal and webbing that crashed over the spider, and for a moment, was just a whirl of spider limbs, metal, and webs, then the shrapnel shot to either side, the webbing stretching between the individual pieces, to reveal a series of webbing strings - in an oddly familiar pattern - with the spider tangled up in the center of it.

Shoop cackled "Ha! Cat's Cradle!"

The spider and the metal mage-- both not the most welcoming of issues as Syeena was concerned but now was not the time to argue. Hex on the other hand was a more chatty kitty. "REJECT?!" Hex roared out loud in aggitation, and glared at the talking hat. "Call me that again, you over-used scratching post! I dare you!"

"Can you argue about that a bit later!" Syeena replied as she dodged one of the spiders legs. It was then that Blitz took action-- and produced his shrapnel storm. It was a spell Syeena had not seen before and was impressed as he easily woven the metal into any form he saw fit and manipulated it, while also slicing at the spider as well. It was her golden opportunity too to add to the finisher... since she had a knack for flare.

Literally.

A card glowed into her hand and she grasped it with two fingers. She arched her hand back, showing the glowing sign of the card. The Emperor Tarot card. With a swing of her arm, she threw the card into the storm of shrapnel. The card was at least small and agile enough that it could get through enough to reach the spider. The spider or Blitz perhaps , to just surprise him, wouldn't see it coming.

With the card in the mix of metal, Syeena smirked as she stood there calmly. She raised her hand and brought her fingers together. "You may want to take a step back," she said with a chuckle. Snap! went her fingers.

BOOOOM!

A flash and fire erupted from the storm of metallic shrapnel inside, flames momentarily escaping from the gaps in the spell. The flash was impressive but contained thanks to Blitz. And more than enough to stop the giant fake spider.

(COmbat ends for now)

As the events calmed down, and the spider was defeated, Syeena took a breath of relief. It was a totally random attack but at least they were successful stopping it.

Unfortunately, there was no pause in the trouble.

"Alright, you talking-sockpuppet!" Hex argued. The cat now flew right next to Shoop and Blitz since he was on top of his head. "This is MY town and MY holiday. I'm not about to let you steal my thunder, got it?"

Syeena sighed, as the last of her cards vanished back with her magic. "Hex, come on. Behave yourself. I mean they did help us... despite their righteous minded attitudes," she said, poking a bit at Blitz from the fact they knew one another. If he tried to arrest her, he loses the benefit of the doubt :P

But this new girl here, seemed nice. She would be someone Syeena would consider a friend if she was open minded enough.

Cleia liked the artistic way the spider was defeated. First with all the webs it was spewing, the blue-haired man used some sort of metallic storm of shrapnel to defend himself and turn the webbing back on the enemy. As he did all this, the Grimoire Heart mage brought forth a card and managed to hurl it through the shrapnel, as they tangled the spider up. As the shrapnel spread out to string up the spider in a cat's cradle style, the Grimoire Heart mage snapped her fingers, and there was a sizable explosion, big enough to obliterate the spider, but well done enough to contain the damage.

Rather epic, that.

Cleia smiled and rose to her feet, the majority of her runes fading away, while the rest resumed their idle orbit around her wrists. Gingerly avoiding whatever was left of the spider and its webbing, she returned to where the Grimoire Heart mage was trying to calm down her cat, who seemed to have quite the temper. Cleia remembered Mauve as being the opposite and smiled wistfully as the cat challenged the blue-haired man's strange talking hat. She looked at the Grimoire Heart mage and said, with a slight shrug:

"Feisty friend you got there."

Watching the exchange for a while, although her mind was calculating, Cleia asked herself a question: "Where did all this weird stuff come from?" Someone had to be responsible for all this, and even if it was a simple prank, it might have turned out worse, if the mages were not around to stop it. Waiting until there was a slight lull of verbal activity, Cleia would then throw open this question:

"So, any theories on what... or who was responsible for this mess? We would be better off finding them and dissuading them from trying some other not-so-funny joke."

"You heard me, fuzzball!" Shoop shot back. "You're going to keep firing shots at me, I have no reason not to return fire. Hell, you noting one you don't like just makes it that much easier! So if you don't like being called that, maybe stop slinging names around!"

Syeena reminded them that now wasn't the time. "For once, we can agree on something," Blitz said with a chuckle, staying focused on keeping the spider contained - it might be wrapped up in its own webbing, but animals didn't stay trapped in their own defenses for very long, and given that a rubber spider shouldn't even be able to shoot webs in the first place, there could still be more to this spider than was visible at first glance.

Unfortunately for the spider, the witch girl didn't see fit to give it the chance, calling out a rather brief warning before flicking something into the webbing, telling everyone that they might want to step back a bit. Sensing what was about to unfold, Blitz swiftly collapsed the net as the shrapnel closed around the spider like some great iron dome, the lines between the individual pieces glowing faintly for a moment as Syeena's spellwork engulfed the center in flames.

Blitz gingerly spread the shrapnel open like a curtain, slowly so the smoke only billowed upward and not outward over the mages. The webbing was completely gone, little more than bits of ash here and there, and the spider itself, being rubber, was now a tar-like mess of goo on the floor. Blitz recalled his shrapnel, the metal fading from existence as the spell came to an end. "Well, that's one halloween prop down, and probably one of the nastier ones, but there are probably still more around the city. We should-"

Blitz paused his speect as the cat, Hex, flew right up to stare Shoop in the eye, meaning she flew right up to Blitz's head. "I've been here before a few times, and I don't recall anyone mentioning a cat getting elected as mayor," Shoop replied. "And you might fit the holiday theme, but you don't own a day of the year. Last year you dressed the part, and almost got roasted like a thankgiving turkey for it, remember?"

Syeena didn't like the brewing fight, and Blitz wasn't a fan of it, either, partially because Hex would have to keep fluttering near his head to keep having a staring contest with Shoop. "That was more because she was thought to be a witch's pet than being magical herself, I think," Blitz pointed out, merely sighing slightly at Syeena's wink, knowing he wasn't, in good standing, going to arrest someone who just helped bring down a monster attacking innocent bystanders. "Besides, the other miss is right, we've got more important things to worry about right now." Blitz paused, turning to Cleia. "Actually, in all the chaos, I don't think I caught your name. Mine's Blitz, Blitz Ranfen. Normally I'd remove my hat for a proper greeting, but he's a bit busy."

"You have no idea, girl," Syeena replied to the girl mage next to her in a friendly tone and rolled her eyes.

Between the smart talking and "Halloween Reject", Hex's fur was all in a fluster as the cat took her role as the witch's familiar and an icon of halloween seriously. She liked the attention and found Halloween the one time of the year where a black cat-- let alone a Black Cat, bad luck causing Exceed could truly fit in.

"Hex, Come on. Just don't let it all go to your head," Syeena had said before, and now as the spider was dissembled and reduced to pieces. Hex was now agitated. She waited all year for this and her so called friend and others were pulling her tail about it.

"Okay sure Metal-head and Sock-puppet may be jerks but you're against me now Syeena?" Hex meowed.

Syeena blinked, perplexed why the sudden attitude. "Hex that's not what I--" she started but the cat had had it.

There was a brief look of sadness in her eyes but more stubbornness than anything else. "Fine, be that way! I know when I'm not wanted!" And in a rather sudden rage-quit moment, Hex took off flying into the air. She fluttered out of the festival area and into the trees above.

"HEX!! Come back!!" Syeena called out, reaching an arm for her but in vain as she vanished from sight. While the cat flew off and vanished, Syeena sighed and regained her composure. After she was sure the danger had passed, she slowly turned a gaze to Blitz and his talking hat. "You... " she said with clear venomous indication of the cat's anger. "Do you even know how to talk to a woman? No wonder you're single..." she said, blaming them both for causing her cat to run off.

At this time it was when Cleia asked who caused this disturbance and made the decorations come alive. That was something Syeena had no clue about. "No clue... Prank perhaps? What concerns me is the magic they used. Was it puppetry or... something else?"

She knew one thing. It took ALOT of magic power to actually bestow life to inanimate objects like that.

However, while finding her cat and the culprit was indeed on Syeena's mind... she had more troubling issues.

"FREEZE!!" Out of the crowd and chaos appeared several Fiore knights. They soon gathered around the three-- their spears pointed to Syeena as they identified her. They didn't pay much notice to the other two , and now just focused to her. "As suspected. You! You're that thief! Grimore Heart's Thief-- The Temperance. Hands up and surrender. " the knights demanded.

SYeena looked around, finding six guards around her and pretty much simple men to outwit. "Hmm... Sorry boys. I'd love to Trick or Treat with you, but I have a cat to catch." she said, completely at ease. As she spoke, a magic card appeared before her made of light. On it, Blitz and Cleia could see the picture and name of the card, called "The Moon" Arcana. "Persona..." She swished her hand upward through the card, causing it to shatter and create a flash of light.

It appeared as if she exquipt but as the light faded... she was gone.

The knights looked in confusion where she stood and didn't see her. They looked around, frazzled. "D-Don't just stand there. Spread out. She couldn't of gone far!" they said and quickly scattered.

It took all of Syeena's control to not laugh as she stood there as they left. She had to remind herself to thank Agil for the Arcana garment-- The moon. IN fact she had not moved as she was now invisible. She had exquipt into her Robes of the Moon, a magical garment which allowed its wearer to become invisible to the naked eye. While it did offer a small outline of vision or distortion to one with high enough accuracy, she was invisible to most citizens and rookie knights.

As the knights scattered, she quickly took off. She hated to run especially after she felt she almost made a new friend out of that young girl mage-- she didn't want to risk Blitz catching on to her either. He would very much spot her, invisible or not. So she left, darting through the street and into an ally-- heading for the general direction where Hex had been going.

Meanwhile, Hex was flying down one of the quiet and narrow streets. She looked at the decorations and different autum leaves of the city trees. However, it didn't ease the black cat's catty mood. "Stupid Syeena... Stupid talking talking hackeesack..." Hex grumbled, her whiskers twitching. "No one can have Halloween without the adorable black cat. Hmph what do those stupid boys know... " she sulked--

OMPH!

The cat bumped into something. She had not been looking where she was going and flew right into something soft but solid as well. "MREOW!" Hex gasped, shaking her head to regain her focus. "Excuse me-- sorry I was---" She stopped as she looked up.

What she ran into was a person. An elderly woman with a staff and gray hair and cloak.

The same creepy old woman who had enchanted the decorations back in the Halloween street party!

"Aww... what an adorable little cat we have here," the woman said, her voice deep but sultry as she tried to calm the feline. "Are you lost, little one?"

Hex blinked at the old woman, not sure who she was. She looked like a witch, much like any other if one would describe the woman. "Mrrow... no. Just got lousy friends," Hex said defensively, " No one appreciates how important a black cat is for this time of year. My so called friends... They..."

"Oh, dear. You poor thing. I think you are absolutely perfect for Halloween," the witch said, her eyes wide with interest. "Well, they don't sound like very good friends, now do they? Why don't you come with me for a while? I have a nice house you can rest in... and plenty of milk if you want something to drink."

Hex's ears perked up with interest at the mention of milk. The cat was thirsty so that sounded great to her. "Oh, that sounds great... Um thank you!"

However, as the old woman began to lead her home, Hex did not see the wicked smile on the woman's face. It meant anything but hospitable for the little cat.

As Hex, as the Exceed was called, started a staring, and of course, jibing contest with the talking hat, the blue haired man managed, even with the flying cat suspended in front of his face, to introduce himself to Cleia. He seemed to be a very polite and proper person, alright. She responded with a demure smile and a slight curtsy.

"Yes, I can see that your hat is... busy. Pleased to meet you, Mr. Ranfen. I'm Cleia. Cleia Everest. And I've heard quite some stories about you. You're more famous than you think, in Magnolia. It's an honor to meet you face to..."

Her pleasantries were cut short by Hex's angry outburst at her friend, the Grimoire Heart mage. So, her name was Syeena? Before Syeena could apologize or say anything though, Hex was gone. Cleia blinked with surprise, then looked from Syeena to Blitz, and back. How rather abrupt. Fortunately, Syeena's anger didn't seem to be long lived, and they could settle down to discuss about the living prop problem.

"It wasn't puppetry... at least, I'm sure of that much," Cleia replied, with a shake of her head. "Some of the props were glowing strangely, and that rubber spider was shooting webs. A puppet master, no matter how talented, cannot give his or her puppets any extra ability beyond what they were constructed with. No, it's something much more powerful. Meaning that we're up against some prankster who got their hands on some powerful magic, and care little for the repercussion. That, or this person knows what they're doing, and that does not augur well for Poinsettia, or us, for that matter."

Just then, Poinsettia's police department showed up, right after the problem had been taken care of. Maybe they were doing their own part in another part of the city, but somehow, Cleia didn't think so. She was just going to try to talk the knights into accepting that Syeena was an ally, and part of the solution, not the problem, when Syeena suddenly disappeared. Cleia hid her surprise behind a mildly amused look, as the knights fanned out to search for Syeena. She was quite unaware that the woman had been standing there all along, and that she had slipped off into an alley. So, that left her with Blitz.

"Well then, Mr. Ranfen, what do you say we solve this mystery, Fairy Tail style?" she asked. Blitz was famous enough in the guild that anyone who had spent time there ought to have heard of his name, at least. She forgot that she had not introduced herself as being in the same guild; she would have done so, but Hex's emotional tantrums had interrupted her.

"Or, should we find Syeena first?"

Hex seemed to get flustered, enough so to actually fly off, much to the surprise of everyone present, Syeena included - apparently, this wasn't normal, though Blitz suspected that Syeena and Hex both were more used to the other party simply remaining silent or rolling their eyes instead of verbally replying. Then, for some odd reason, Syeena decided that it was Blitz's fault that she'd left. "Excuse me?!" Blitz said, perplexed. "Shoop didn't help the situation, I'll grant you, but how on earth was that MY fault? Besides, I'm single because I'm married to my work, inventing and combat doesn't leave you time for much else in the day." Blitz replied, now as irritated with Syeena for jumping to conclusions as she was with him.

They began discussing the puppets, though for some reason, neither female thought to ask Blitz for his view on the magic - they were free to ask or not ask whomever they pleased, but you'd think they would have thought that Blitz had no less than 3 Pets that were completely inorganic in construct, so he was the only one present familiar with granting life to inanimate objects, though in fairness, Shoop's creation hadn't gone quite as perfectly as Blitz had originally planned, as his original version was less of a smartass.

The other girl, at least, was courteous enough to introduce herself as Cleia Everest. "A pleasure to meet you, Cleia," Blitz said with a polite nod. Cleia also seemed more of a mind to discuss the magic of the props, though in Syeena's defense, Cleia didn't have a Pet that had just run off. "True," Blitz said in response to Cleia's breakdown of the magic from her own viewpoint, "But as someone who makes weapons for a living with his magic, I'll say that the magic bestowed on these props could have been made more lethal, so whomever is behind this either isn't trying to kill so much as scare, or spread their power so thin between all the props that they had to tone down what each prop could do on its own."

Any further conversation was interrupted by the arrival of the local knights. About time the local authorities got their backsides in gear, Blitz thought with mild annoyance. The response time had been a bit longer than it should have for a city-wide emergency, or Blitz assumed it was city-wide, at least, as he saw no reason that this part of the city alone should be hit. Unless the one controlling these things has a limited range for his or her powers, Blitz thought suddenly. If they're controlling this many within the city limits, they must be in the city somewhere, surely.

The knights recognized Syeena, who seemed to take that as her cue to leave. She threw a card into the air, and vanished in a flash of light - or so the knights thought, as they quickly stormed after her, but Blitz could see her just fine, though she was slightly blurry - no doubt an illusion of hers, like the one she used to trick the villagers into diving into the river at Oak Town, Blitz thought. She left for real a few moments later, no doubt to give the knights time to get some distance.

After she'd left the tent, Blitz turned to Cleia and nodded. "We should probably start with finding Hex. As irritating as the duo can be, it is 'someone's' fault that she ran off," Blitz said in a stern tone, glancing up at Shoop.

"Okay, maybe I could have toned my responses down a bit," Shoop admitted with a slight shrug, the hem of his hat-self rising then falling slightly. "But if you'll recall, she started firing insults first. As did the witch girl who owns her."

Blitz sighed, facepalming. "Nevermind. Let's find cat. No doubt Syeena's already searching on her own, so we'll have a better chance of locating her if we search separately from her. Besides, she seems irritable right now, can't imagine why," Blitz said with a slight roll of his eyes.

(Would be nice if you guys chase after Syeena. Or run into her in some form-- spotting her. It would be 'oh god they can see me-- i gotta tell Agil to fix this cape' moment :P)

Syeena ran through the allyway, making sure she was not tailed by the knights or the Fairy Tail mages that were there in the street. She had nothing against Fairy Tail, with the exception of uptight Blitz and his 'rightous than thou' attitude from her point of view. Not to mention his smart talking hat. True, Blitz was NOT completely at fault for Hex's anger. Still she held BLitz responsible. Who was at fault, the hat or the one who wore the hat? That was her argument there.

Right now, Syeena kept on her Robes of the Moon cloak. While others wouldn't see her at all-- for Blitz and Celia, they would see a transparent silhouette of her appearance, with the distorted image of the background behind her. Invisibility magic was common but never perfect as it had plenty of drawbacks. Still, as a thief by trade, it came invaluable in certain situations. Still, she felt her search for Hex would go smoother if she kept up the magic of her cloak and remained unseen.

For now, she was seeking any trace of Hex. She wished she had invested in a magic to help her track her cat friend but sadly no luck thus far. She was in the allyway leading further into town, but no sign of her cat.

"Come on, Hex. Quit pouting and come out of hiding," Syeena said to herself. Little did she know that the Fairy Tail wizards were hot on HER heels as well.

In an older tree, devoid of leaves but built as a house inside just within the rest of the tree-filled city, were Hex and the old woman. Inside it was a typical witch's lair. A large cauldron in the center, several shelves of books and ingredients, some like eyes of some animals and other things one probably didn't want to know. The very atmosphere of the woman's home screamed 'wicked witch'.

Still, the soft sound of purring could be heard as the old woman had Hex on her lap, as she scratched below her chin. One of Hex's weak spots to where she LOVED to be petted like a real cat.

"That's a sweet kitty. You really are quite beautiful," the woman said, lightly petting the cat. "It's such a shame your 'friends' don't seem to appreciate your worth..." the woman said.

After enjoying the petting, Hex slowly stood up and hopped off the woman's lap as she looked around. "Oh, well its not COMPLETELY bad. I mean Syeena is nice... just sometimes we argue..." she said, starting to miss Syeena. Despite being a sassy kitty cat-- Hex really did feel that being with her best friend made HER be at her best.

The old woman stood up and walked around her small home, gathering some ingredients and putting them into the bubbling cauldron. "Ah, I can understand that... Still, what is Halloween without a Black Cat. They undervalue your significance to this important holiday. A witch can't do any REAL magic without their 'familiar'. " she said.

"I know, right?!" Hex said, her ears and spirit perking up. Though she still missed Syeena. Regardless, this old woman was very comforting. Hex soon sat down and lapped at a small dish of milk the witch had given her.

However, as she ate, the witch was softly dropping things into her caldron, which slowly began to bubble and boil...

Blitz had suggested finding Hex. His point was very reasonable: searching for Syeena, if they were successful, would still end up with all three of them searching together, as opposed to searching in different places. So, where were they expected to start searching? Cleia looked around, tapping her chin thoughtfully.

"Hmmm... don't know if you have any sort of tracking magic, Mr. Ranfen... but I guess we could start searching in that direction," Cleia said, pointing towards an alley (which was ironically the same location the invisible Syeena had escaped into). "I think Hex was just trying to get away from us, so she would probably not think to perform some maneuvers that could shake off would-be pursuers. Hopefully, we should find her if we went in that general direction."

She looked at the alley, then up at Blitz. "Meh, I'm actually very awful at tracking. We'd probably just end up running off in the wrong direction. What do you think we should do?"

Whatever Blitz decided on, she would go with it. As they headed off, Cleia said:

"You mentioned that you make weapons from magic or something, Mr. Ranfen, and from the way you spoke, you have some knowledge of magic similar to what we just witnessed. Could I know more about what we're up against? Since the magic sort of resembles how a puppeteer would function, would the caster have to stay in the vicinity of the 'charmed' items? Or are they imbued with some magic that may fizzle out over time? Is such a thing as permanent animation even possible?"

She stopped talking almost abruptly, then finished in a more subdued voice:

"And, I'm asking too many questions. Force of habit; sorry about that."
