Halloween was high on the rise. The decorations were up and people were getting ready with halloween festivities. Though Poinsettia, the lavander city known for the city that was merged with the natural trees of the forest, was not known for halloween. However, many celebrated it all over Fiore. For here though, there was more emphasis because it was the rumor of that many 'witches' and supernatural entities called this city home.

And boy were they right.

The young woman could feel the magic humming in the air and every night it was getting stronger. Syeena Fateweaver was no ordinary mage like others in Fiore. She was a full fledged WITCH. The kinds that many stories were told about, the ones who could turn people into toads, gather around cauldrons and ride broomsticks. Not all exact but one would grasp the general idea. And for them, Halloween was the most special night of the year. It was so special, that as Halloween got closer, their own magic grew in strength too.

She was dressed in her casual attire, the 'nerdy reporter' look, with her jeans, vest and thick coke bottle glasses. She was looking at the many halloween stores, from their bake goods to costumes and 'prank items' to pull tricks for trick or treat.

Beside her, a strange looking black cat walked with her. A black cat with violet parts to her fur, with claw gloves on her front paws, and finally a witch's hat on her head, the ears peeking from it via slits in the hat. The cat almost hopped along in a happy demeanor as she would occasionally look up to her friend.

"Finally!" The cat purred with great joy and jubilant, a rarity for Syeena to see as the cat was often more sarcastic than truly glad. "Halloween! The only time when its good luck to be a black cat!"

Syeena chuckled, as she continued down the street. She was heading for an old magic shop, where many magical wears were sold. From wands to cauldrons, and all the recipes as well. "Please, Hex," Syeena said, glad that Hex was in such a good mood. "You always bring me good luck," she said.

It was without a doubt going to be an interesting halloween this year.

While Halloween was a celebration for some, there were those who hated it outright. Some probably thought all the "witchy" stuff a tad too diabolical; others, who were not very social, just hated everything that had to do with large crowds and gatherings of people. Such people also hated Christmas, by the way. The good news was, Cleia Everest did not fall into either category. The bad news was, she still hated Halloween.

Her aversion was partly her fault, though one could say she was a victim of circumstance. It had all started with herself trying to conquer her timid side and become a lot more daring. So, in one of those winds of recklessness that often blow the average teenager every now and then, she had decided to participate in some Fear Factor-esque freak show. And it was on her first Halloween. Everything had gone fine, she performed well in the physical test, and in the mental test, she got unexpected dumped in a tub of small but rather armored spiders.

And she had freaked out...

She actually had ended the whole program by detonating a Jinrai (while in panic mode) in the tub. The result was nothing short of... cataclysmic, but she was spared watching the aftermath, as the Jinrai knocked her senseless. The spiders were launched out of the tub, in all directions, flying like marble projectiles into any- and everything... including mouths. Let's stop at this point, but the fact was, the taste of the embarrassing fiasco was still fresh on her tongue (it was just last year...).

So, today, while everyone was here in Poinsettia, enjoying the sights, sounds and celebrations, Cleia was in a mildly dour mood, after seeing spiders and cobwebs decorating almost everywhere. Keeping her clenched fists in her pockets, she wandered around the stores, looking for a place that would sell her a new backpack... and one that had no spiders on it.

She also remembered that the most bizarre times of her life had occurred out of the blue, when everyone was seemingly oblivious of the fact that something could go wrong. Cleia sighed quietly and shook her head, trying to get rid of her pessimistic feelings, as she idly tailed a young woman and her strange cat.

"Wish Mauve was here... at least it would be more fun..."

Blitz was walking through the city, like most of the visitors to the area were, seeing the sights, with one noteworthy exception - he was staying on the rooftops, avoiding the semi-crowded streets down below entirely. For once, Shoop was against it, though for different reasons than was his usual standard.

"Why do you want to mingle so much?" Blitz asked Shoop, the only one of the group with any real issues about walking along the rooftops. "Last year, you seemed almost thankful that no one was in our line of sight during that little candy-hunting thing we took part in. And while we're both used to it, surely you can agree that a lack of those awkward stares from the two of us chatting is only a plus."

"Because last year you were wearing that ridiculous costume, which was bizzare even by your weird standards," Shoop said. Crash and Morgan shared a glance - if Blitz's standards were 'weird', what did that make the talking hat he'd made by them? "Besides, you gave him," Shoop added, pointing to the glowing orb of light that was Morgan, "telepathy just so we could avoid that very thing."

Blitz let out a sigh that was half-irritation, half-amusement. "You're never going to let that one go, are you?" Blitz said with a slight chuckle.

"I haven't seen you burn it yet, so probably not, as you no doubt have it stashed someplace for a special occasion," Shoop grumbled.

Blitz walked out onto one of the wires stretching between the buildings - each was laced with various halloween decorations, including glowing pumpkins shaped to resemble lacrima to an extent. "Not exactly the safest route," Crash pointed out. "Alot less footing out here."

"Not like I'll fall," Blitz said with a slight shrug, one that didn't alter his balance any, almost as if to prove his point. "Besides, even if something happens that causes that, I can fly, and airwalk. Not like I'm short on options, should that become a thing."

"Chances of our presence being noticed are increased when directly over the crowds, Master Blitz," Morgan noted.

"True, but you'd be amazed how rarely people think to look up."

The celebration was open to all as the displays and games were in full swing. One wouldn't think Poisenntia was such a city that would celebrate Halloween, but as the leaves changed colors and seasons changed, they took the natural feel of halloween and the final harvest before winter with great enthusiasm.

"And naturally you can't have Halloween without ME! The witchy kitty, everyone knows! " Hex said, hopping up into the air and immediately made her black wings appeared. Adorn in her witch's hat, she really did look like some sort of cat-witch.

Syeena rolled her eyes behind her glasses, one of the benefit of dressing up like that so no one could read her expression. "Don't let it go to your head Hex. All of Halloween doesn't revolve around you," Syeena reminded the cat. "Show some humility and grace."

Hex's whiskers got all agitated as she looked to her partner. "WHat?! You saying I'm not graceful?!" the cat argued. And once again Hex was in one of her little hissy fits, that some cats like to be in . Even if it was over a petty reason.

NOw while people were playing in the cornfield maze, or bobbing for apples... something menacing was afoot. Up in the tree-buildings, hidden among the bows, was a mysterious figure. It appeared as a strange old woman with a staff in her hand. She stood before the crowd and grinned down at them. "Ah... so time for some early trick or treating..." the woman spoke in a calm but menacing tone. As she observed the festivities, she also spot Syeena and the strange flying black cat beside her. She could hear a little of what they were saying. An argument. She smiled, seeing an opportunity. "And it seems fortune is smilling upon me as well."

For now she focused her magic, and now looked for something she could use. And there, near a 'pumpkin carving contest', she saw scary and funny jack-o-lanterns. Raising her staff, she pointed it towards the pumpkins. "Quintessence..." She spoke, and the air around her suddenly crackled with electricity. A small, near unnoticable bolt of electricity flew through the air and struck the pumpkins. The discharge of energy scattered all over the building collection, and to the decorations around them.

At first, there was nothing but a little static, but soon one of the images of the pumpkins in the shape of a vampire-- grinned.

Moments later...

"WHAAAA!!" someone screamed, catching the attention of the mages around.

Syeena and Hex stopped arguing for a moment, and looked. Out of nowhere, pumpkins began to move on their own! They hopped, rolled and slammed against people, throwing themselves at the party-goers and participants. People screamed and ran as they were pelted at by the enchanted pumpkins.

And the madness was starting to spread elsewhere too if they were not stopped. Even worse, someone could get very hurt!

(Someone has enchanted the decorations to make them come alive! Use your magic to stop them. Feel free to improvise what decorations have been enchanted if you have ideas. )

Cleia watched with some interest as the cat sprouted wings and flew about in the air. There was only one race she knew of that were very much akin to cats, except that most of them boasted of a higher intelligence, speech and of course, flight: Exceeds. And Mauve was one of them. Almost instantly, a wave of so many confusing emotions flowed through her mind. She was happy, wistful, sad, distraught, angry even. None of the negative emotions was aimed at the Exceed or the woman with her, but mostly at the ones who had deprived Cleia of her family. However, she understood that right now, being angry and upset was mostly pointless, so she would just have to distract herself...

She took a deep breath and closed her eyes. On opening them, it seemed the black Exceed was getting a bit cross, though of course, Cleia couldn't hear what the issue was all about, and she felt that 'eavesdropping' was rather rude, so she didn't try to come any closer. How many times had she argued with Mauve? It was a bit frequent, but it was still kind of fun, even when...

"I have to stop thinking at these things, or I'll get pretty much upset again," Cleia instructed herself mentally, as she closed her eyes again and took another breath. And when she opened her eyes, a vampire looking pumpkin, for all intents and purposes, was grinning at her. She glared back at it, then chided herself. She was being silly. The pumpkin was certainly non-sentient, so it couldn't even know whether she was scowling at it or not. Though, she could have sworn that the last time she saw it peripherally, before closing her eyes that second time, its smile was not that... intense.

A scream caused her to turn sharply. A pumpkin was moving. No, a huge rat was not making off with someone's Halloween decorations, it was moving on its own, like it was alive. With no little degree of shock, she turned in time to see the vampire pumpkin jump off its shelf and onto someone's head. In no time, the market place would turn into a maelstrom of mayhem, and a stampede would probably occur, and people would get hurt. Cleia was a Light Mage, and perhaps that was the reason she was here today, so that she could try to set somethings right. It was getting fairly common now though, that whenever she was in the midst of many, something was bound to go wrong. Ah well, she had once complained to Yuurei, one of her guild mates, that life was sort of boring...

"Here we go again..."

Holding out her hands to either side of her, at hip level, she conjured two razor sharp sickles, and grinned... almost manically. This would be some fun, actually, slicing flying pumpkins and stuff. It kind of reminded her of the plant fiascoes she had fought against sometime in Magnolia, because plants were involved again. At least, they weren't saying anything...

The first pumpkin that flew in her direction was sliced neatly in two, and Cleia began to make short work of any insane fruit that managed to come near her. With any luck, whatever fell enchantment that was causing pumpkins to party would not be responsible for animating any other stuff...

Blitz was still doing his tightrope maneuver when he noticed a faint spark of magic below - he glanced downward towards the crowds, expecting it to be some kind of halloween firework or some other magic-based attraction, but saw instead a cat with a hat and leathery black bat wings - something that was, admittedly, heavily halloween-themed, and most might have written it off as another attraction, as Blitz nearly did, but the cat seemed familiar to Blitz. Haven't I seen that cat someplace before? Blitz thought to himself. Just as he realized where he'd seen the cat - and who he'd seen the cat with, who was surely nearby, if the cat was here - a scream cut through the murmur of crowd noise like a knife, and after a brief instant of silence, the streets immediately devolved into a plague of chaos. Such was the chaos that it was difficult to tell what had happened at first, but after a moment, it became clear that the decorations had somehow gained sentience and were attacking the populace of the city.

And it seemed the trickery that was afoot wasn't limited to decorations on the ground, either, as the wire Blitz was walking across shook slightly - thankfully, the wire itself stayed as a simple object, having nothing to do with halloween by itself, but it was a different story for what had caused the wire to shake - the various halloween jack-o-lantern hangings that had been hooked over the wire. The bulk of them descended on the crowds below, but a good amount of them floated upward instead towards Blitz, wreathed in a very convincing-looking aura of flames that most certainly hadn't been gracing them mere moments ago.

"Usually I find ones who go around smashing pumpkins on Halloween very petty and spiteful," Blitz said, as the jack-o-lanterns rose around him. "But just this once, I'll make an exception to the rule." As the lanterns lunged at him like a bird of prey descending on a target, Blitz knelt, bending the wire slightly, before using it to launch into the air, narrowly avoiding the lanterns' assault, several of them clacking together - the good news was that since they were props and not actual pumpkins, they didn't have as much impact to them, but the bad news was that they were more durable as a result of not being a plant.

The lanterns flew upwards towards the ascending Blitz, like moths towards a flame, as Blitz drew the sword off his back - might as well keep this thing from collecting rust, Blitz thought - and slashed through the first two pumpkins like they were ripe melons, slicing them neatly in two, their flames instantly snuffing out as the halves tumbled to the ground.

"Your laser probably would have done them all in at once," Shoop pointed out as Blitz hacked through a third lantern.

"True, but we're not alone, and there are more than just violent props below us, there are ordinary citizens who wouldn't appreciate a laser blast overhead, nor would they deal with it any better than these lanterns are." Blitz noted.

Hex fluttered her 'feathery' black wings that matched her fur. "Come on, we all know you can't have Halloween without the black witchy cat. I am a valuable celebrity this time of year." Hex said, using a paw and licking it briefly to clean the fur of her ears, as any cat would.

"You're inflating your ego, cat and I--"

"AAAAHHHH!!" the screams of nearby citizens spooked Syeena from her conversation, and Hex's ears stood up in alert. They looked to find the entire fair in chaos now, as someone pulled a prank that caused the decorations to come alive. Some mages, that Syeena had not known, were already on the move. One thing she did notice, one of them were Fairy Tail-- Blitz, well known among Fiore as one of its strongest. This made things... complicated.

"Purrrrfect! Hex to the rescue!" Hex said, wanting to join in on the pumpkin smashing. "You better get changed," she commented, hinting to Syeena to 'transform'.

Syeena looked to her cat friend. "Naturally, whiskers," she replied sarcastically to her friend and ran for the nearest ally she could find.

The nerdy looking girl ran into a dark alleyway and moved in it far enough so that no one could see. She didn't want her two idenities to clash. As a woman of mystery, she couldn't afford some people, especially a metal-headed mage from Fairy Tail making a connection of who she was. An Umbra Witch, and a member of Grimore Heart. After looking around to make sure she was alone, she called on her magic.

A single card appeared made out of shining light. It fluttered before her, turning to reveal The Temperance Arcana-- the key of her transformation to her more signature attire. "Persona!!" she shouted, and with a swish of her hand, slashed the card in half in an upward gesture, causing it to shatter into specks of light. A flurry of cards of light spiraled around her, bathing her form in light as the cards spiraled around her, and her appearance began to change. AIr swished her hair about in the air as she transformed.

The light and cards soon faded away-- revealing her true form and appearance. While the nerdy attire reflected her more innocent nature, and obscured her identity-- this was closer to her true appearance, not needing glasses and showing off her more lovely features that were hidden under such horrible clothing.

"Something wicked, this way comes..." she said and took off back to the festival.

Meanwhile, the pumpkins were rolling and bouncing about, crashing into stalls and people, bursting apart and knocking down structures. As the others also jumped into the fray, they also had to take care not to hit the bystanders and people running.

Hex was already on the offense now-- in her own way at least. The cat had attacked a pumpkin with her claws, trying to cut it, but failed. She was now on it like a giant cat toy, biting and clawing at it as it rolled around with her. Still, she was holding her own in the 'wrestling' match with the animated gourd.

Cleia was doing well too, but more pumpkins came for her-- approaching from behind her. Just as they were about to pounce...

SWHICH!! A flash of metal-like movement flew out from the air and struck the pumpkins. They were suddenly burst open by the flurry of attacks that had struck them from afar. As she would look, she would see it-- in place among the pumpkins, were a series of cards. Metallic like throwing cards with the intriquit backs of Tarot cards-- and the logo of Grimore Heart on them.

Appearing on the scene was 'The Temperance' or the handle she went as while in this state. She stood there like a super hero, her black hair wafting in the air as she held a single card in her hand. Of course whether she was a hero or anti-hero, remained to be seen. Though if one looked enough, they would see the grimore Heart logo on her left thigh, indicating her alliance to that guild.

Don't worry, Pumpkin," she said to Cleia, in the enduring term of how she was on their side in this instance. "I got your back."

WIth an elegant jump through the air, she spun and threw her cards at the hopping pumpkins. It almost was like a game to her, throwing the cards to hit the moving targets. Perhaps she would get a prize out of it when she was done.

The sickles were the best tools for this job, in Cleia's opinion, as all she had to do was move her hands in particular sweeping motions, while the razor sharp glowing weapons cut a clean swath through the pulverizing pumpkins. However, it would seem that the pumpkins had decided to swamp her, and perhaps things might get painful quickly. She knew there were pumpkins before and behind, but she had to focus on the ones in front, because they were closer. There was no option, then: she would have to brace herself for the hurt, and attempt a counterattack...

A counterattack did occur, or well, should we say, preemptive strike? Before the pumpkins could pelt Cleia from behind, a bunch of what seemed to be metallic tarot cards tore through them. Metallic cards that bore what looked like the mark of a dark guild. Her good memory lost no time in identifying it: Grimoire Heart. She turned to see where the help had come from, and noticed a dark haired woman, in a not-your-average-day-to-day somewhat skimpy outfit. Her expression was one of indifference, until the woman assured her that she would cover her. Then her lips twitched into a smile, and she nodded. True, the woman was obviously a dark mage, even proudly sporting the Grimoire Heart on her thigh, but Cleia was aware of a pragmatic fact:

"Other factors being equal, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Besides, nothing is as it seems."

She had once made friends (of sorts) with a half-demon girl, who when Cleia got to know her, was not a bad person. Thus, rather than just rule this new benefactor off, Cleia would let the woman's actions judge her opinion of her. So far, she was helping to protect innocents, which was more noble than a selfish 'Light' mage, who would say that this was not his concern, and leave. But that did not mean she wouldn't be cautious around the woman.

Now that she knew that she had some cover, she could risk glancing upwards at some commotion that had occurred earlier above. She saw a guy with blue hair and a strange hat. Well, that was most of what she could see with that one short glance, before bringing her gaze back onto the battlefield. At least, it seemed he too was on their side...

Cleia would not have the time to take another glance at the tightrope walking blue haired man, as she noticed the ground beneath her get darker. A shadow? That meant... Without looking up, Cleia took a dive and roll, allowing her instincts to work first. And in good time, too. For where she was a few moments ago, a huge spider had crashed down there. It was black, glossy and made of rubber, but it was almost eight feet from maw to abdomen. After a slight wobbly bounce, it turned to 'look' at Cleia. It may have been rubber, some people may have considered it cute, but not Cleia. Rather, she felt that this day had just taken a dip for the worse.

"Spiders again?!! I swear Halloween is the worst holiday ever!!!"

Blitz smashed a fourth pumpkin lantern with the hilt of the sword, smashing it into a dozen pieces - the flames brushed around his wrist, but with his reinforced skin from years of transforming into machines, the flames didn't even tickle, though he knew not to make a habit of that. Using his body to attack as the Living Weapon was one thing, just using his limbs for attacks because he didn't feel like using his actual weapons properly was a different matter, though Blitz would admit that he tended to rely more on punches than sword slashes, most of the time, and lacked any blunt weapons, seeing little point when his own fists worked just as well. Still, perhaps it's time I invested in something that can smash, but that isn't attached to me, Blitz thought as he cleaved a fifth lantern down the middle with an overhand slash of the blade.

A brief flash of magic caught his eye - or rather, his Radar Sense, as his eyes had been busy keeping tabs on the floating halloween props - his Radar had made note of it, as the magical flash had registered as a different type of magic than the ones engulfing the living props. Glancing at a nearby alleyway, he noted a girl emerge - one he recognized.

"Hey, wasn't the the girl who's cat you saved from becoming a barbecue?" Shoop asked, spotting the girl a moment after Blitz did.

"I believe so," Blitz said. "Wonder what's she's dong here." I hope she's not a part of this, Blitz thought, recalling how the girl was accused of being a Witch in the past. He didn't want to stereotype like those villagers had, but her appearing in a town full of haunted halloween items was unusually coincidental.

The witch girl seemed to want to help, and the other girl pragmatic enough not to look a gift horse in the mouth, and the two were dealing with the crazed gourds when the giant rubber spider leapt into the fray, much to the displeasure of one of the girls. Before it could move more than that, however, a small burst of rain would fall from above - not actual rain, but orange fragments of shattered pumpkin lanterns, followed swiftly by a giant metal fist crashing into the spider and smashing it into rubbery paste against the pavement, Blitz at the end of the fist. Blitz retracted the fist, making a slight face at the gooey substance on his knuckles and shaking it off before turning the fist back to normal and addressing the girls. "Good evening, ladies," Blitz said, ever the gentleman. "Don't suppose you mind if I join in on the fun? The chaos here aside, the girl doing card tricks there," Blitz noted, pointing at Syeena, "Still owes me quite a lengthy story from when I had to save her hide in a similar fashion back in Oak Town last year."

Shoop merely grinned at Hex. "Long time no see, fuzzball."

Though to be honest, their compliance with his assistance wasn't really a factor, as he was hardly going to stop trying to save lives if they felt like they didn't need helping, but he felt it was nice to ask, at least, even if the answer and outcome would both remain the same.

Apparently, though, assistance might have still been needed, as Blitz had already hopped off what was left of the spider and begun walking towards the duo when he turned, hearing a sound behind him, only to see a now slightly-misshaped spider lurch to its feet from the small crater Blitz had punched into the ground using its body. "Damn, thing's more sturdy than I gave it credit for," Blitz said, turning fully around to face the thing again. "A regular spider would have popped like a ripe fruit. Guess being a prop means its more durable, too."

As Syeena landed on the ground and the other pumpkins became scare, little did they know another one of the props had been enchanted by the witch who remained out of sight. As the spider came falling down, both Hex and Syeena turned from their pumpkins to see the giant spider on the attack. At least it was not spitting out webs, or so Syeena hoped.

"Is the Halloween Committee going overboard this year or something?" Hex commented as she fluttered beside Cleia. As the Spider moved in to attack, using its giant legs to try and hit the people below, Hex quickly flew and wove her way around the spider's fake legs.

Finishing her share of the pumpkins, Syeena turned to see the giant spider come into play. Just as she was about to fight it-- Blitz showed up to lend a hand. ANd of course, Syeena suddenly remembered him and his talking accessory. "Oh, great... It's YOU..." Syeena said in her form of a greeting, recalling the annoying Fairy Tail metal mage and his talking accessory. "Dress up for Halloween already I see?" she added, playfully knocking on his clothing being silly especially wearing the talking hat.

But humor and jabs were going to have to wait as the spider went on the attack.

Hex however, was well ahead of them. As she wove and flew between the spider's rubber legs, she fluttered under and above the spider, her paws sparkling. "Don't ou know a black cat can give you bad luck. Mreow!" she said and suddenly, a flurry of halloween symbols-- ghosts, pumpkins and bats suddenly danced out. The small display of halloween sparkling and lightning coated the spider-- and suddenly it became more clumbsy and sluggish. Hex had in fact put a 'hex' on the spider, which reduced its accuracy and speed-- also giving it a rather clumsy sense of bad luck!

And with her own magic, Syeena produced more cards-- this time from her own magic, making them appear in a wave of her hands. As she grasped them out of the air, she focused the magic in her hands towards them. And in her hands, the cards began to become covered by a strange, bewitching aura of black. An aura of darkness magic.

AIming at the front legs and body, she threw the cards with a crossed gesture. The six cards of darkness magic went flying at the spider, striking and setting off the charged magic on the projectiles, adding magical damage to the spider.

As Hex soon came flying back down to the mages, it noticed Blitz and of course Shoop. She recognized the hat, seeing how it had a Halloween look to him as well. "Hey! I remember you! You're that half-price off clothes reject hat from before!" Hex said, once again teasing how raggity Shoop looked like.
