Oh good lord. He was one of those lovely monologue types. Just Snow's luck. And of course he tried to bait her with Sophie. That was neither unexpected nor something to make her temper flair. While she did worry minutely that the woman might be injured, she had trusted in her too long to assume she would be so easily taken down. Snow heaved a sigh, readying her blades as the vampire drew his pretty one. It might have been a simple dual. A clashing of swords, and a quick end one way or another. It was simply unfortunate that her mind chose that moment to whisper something disturbing. "You thought the other was infallible too. Look how that turned out." A quick pain seared through her mind, leaving her breathless for a moment, and unfocused. It was a shitty time to be less than focused, as she winced away, and then found herself barely blocking the blow which had aimed to decapitate her. He was strong; far stronger than the others had been. His mere force pushed at her strong blades, threatening to break them wholly. She rolled at the last second, no doubt exposing most of her skin to both the vampire and the onlooker. If she didn't then, she would most definitely be doing so when she stood. It was only a table cloth, and only a simple knot. It came undone easily enough. She blushed as soon as she noted she was naked. The vampire was looking at her in the most annoyingly lascivious manner. "Stop that you pervert!" She yelled it even as she was trying hard to cover herself again. "Please. I am centuries old. I have seen more naked women than most men can count on a single hand. Its not as though I am unwanted by some. In fact, some women see the draining of blood as a most ... intimate act." Snow quirked a dark brow. "Look the mental illnesses which accompanied your former lovers are no concern of mine ok. Let's just get on with the stabbity bit if thats alright with you." That seemed to ruffle his feathers a bit. Snow thought herself prepared for whatever would come next. It was with no small amount of surprise that she soon lost track of his movements, as he was faster than her eyes could've possibly hoped to follow. Then she was bleeding, and her lip was busted, and she had several long deep gashes which scored her right bicep. "Son of a bi--" She didn't get to finish the sentence, as she soon found herself airborne, flung backward onto the podium where personunnamed had been standing before. Hopefully he had had the sense to move out of the way. It wad a peculiar sensation, cracking well made wood with one's flesh. Also painful. As Fuck. She was trying to get her breath back still when she felt her death loom above her. "Are you certain, you wouldn't move to my side? It seems such a ... waste. Killing you." He tried to look charming even. The audacity. Snow's only answer was to spit, saliva merged with blood, into his arrogant face. She'd rather die, said her eyes. And he was in a position to oblige. So he stood, less than amused, and raised his large ornate blade above his head. He would deliver the final blow in a moment, and Snow could have cared less. Her only regret was not being able to take the sonofabitch out. So it was with a mixture of relief and surprise that she heard steel clash with steel instead of with flesh. She opened her eyes, thinking maybe the guy from earlier had come to her rescue. Nope. Instead, a youth stood there. Not necessarily a very impressive one, but one with confidence nonetheless. He perried the death blow back toward the vampire with surprising ease. "I don't know. I'm not really in the habit of letting the heroes die when I can help it." His voice was the epitome of calm self possession. He might as well have been picking flowers or pouring tea. "Who are you? This is none of your business, and not your place." The newcomer grinned. "But I always make your kind my business. And this time of year business is booming. Now, I do apologize for my tardiness. I am Danzig Von Helpsin, third Earl of Lavender Forest, and vampire hunter. Pleased to meet you." The vampire threw back his head and laughed for a full minute. Snow tried to get her exceptionally injured ass back up. And the Earl grinned from ear to ear. Soon enough, a small thin glittering rapier was seen dancing through the air, fighting back the heavy blade of the vampire with ease. Snow had a fleeting thought that maybe the two were only playing with one another. Then decided she didn't care. She had other shit to worry about. Like the fact that a rather large splinter of wood had made it's way into her side, and was impeding her breathing. |

In the heated exchange between human mage and vampire lord, there wasn't a lot of room for a third party to get involved. A third party such as the young man who knew little of the world save for what he'd seen and experienced over the past 36 days and what the voice in his head informed him of on occasion for example. He'd seen both combatants and couldn't shake the feeling that Snow was grossly outclassed even before the fight had started. She was strong, ridiculously so by normal human standards, but against the so called lord of vampires? This wasn't going to end well. But rather than step up and intervene, something else had piqued his interest. The as-yet unannounced arrival of a new combatant, but also something that seemed to call to him from the darkness beyond the still open passageway that the vampire lord and Snow had both emerged from. You guys have fun now. He thought with a smirk before vanishing into the passage whilst Snow went flying through the air at the behest of her opponent. In his hand he held the dagger that she'd given him, though he'd taken it because it looked pretty rather than because he wanted it for self defense. By the time that Danzig Von Helpsin arrived, the passage had closed and he was alone in the dark... for now. He traversed the chilled passage quickly and soon came across the torch lit chamber in which the host's drained corpse lay in a small pool of dried blood. His death had not been quick or painless by his estimation. It looked like he'd done his best to struggle and run to the end and in a way, he could respect him for that. At least he'd tried to survive, right? Examining the room, there were a number of off-shooting passages, but he figured only one of them would be of interest... that being the one that the vampire lord had emerged from before killing the host of this establishment. In the back of his mind, he was also aware of the fact that Snow's accomplice- Sophie- was said to have been taken prisoner and that meant that, assuming she was alive, then she'd be down one of these passages too. With a sigh, he did a slow circle in the center of the room before choosing the one that felt lucky. As he wandered the twisting maze that followed, he wondered how things were progressing back in the ballroom before a muffled sound met his ears. As he proceeded the noise became louder and more distinct and he emerged into a circular room lit with torches that burnt blue and around the perimeter of the room were a dozen bodies secured firmly to the wall by rather thorough bindings. At first he thought that these were simply corpses, but as he entered the room and his footsteps rang out, he heard that sound again and realised that one of the bodies had made the sound and that all of them were blindfolded and gagged. Or in other words, they were very much alive. His next realisation was that all of the dozen prisoners were women and the peculiar bindings seemed geared towards restraining their upper bodies whilst leaving their lower halves with only minimal restraint. "I hope I'm not interrupting anything here ladies, but is one of you Sophie?" He asked brightly. It was quite difficult to recognise any of the girls, as they were all dressed in the same white dress and the restraints hid their faces. As it happened though, Sophie was indeed among the prisoners, though from her perspective, making herself known could be her salvation or her doom and there was no way of finding out for sure without taking a rather hefty gamble. Then again, she knew that if she remained here much longer than a fate worse than death awaited her... |

The eternal question persisted while Snow lay there in agony, some nice long spinter of wood stuck in her side, poking at inner bits which weren't meant to be poked at. Leave it in, or pull it out? She knew, without knowing how she knew, that there was also a dirty joke in that somewhere, and that she needed to not laugh right now. Cause it would make things worse. And more painful. Much like breathing was doing. Before her, an eternal struggle between good and evil played out. One man obviously the villain, the other obviously the good guy. She didn't really give much care who won right that second. She just needed to stop hurting. And so she made her decision, after weighing things like internal blood loss against infection. She pulled out the splinter which ended up being half as long as her forearm. Really more of a 2x4 in her estimation once it went beyond needle like. As a good sign, she began to bleed freely once it was removed. On the not so good side, she was bleeding freely. She moved slowly, watching the two men fight with fervor, and long and broken speeches of eloquent prose, which boiled down to "You suck!" "Nu uh! You suck!" While they were so engaged, she decided to crawl away. She couldn't stand just yet, and she was sure to keep one hand to her side to keep the blood from gushing out too quickly. After a little of this she found a new table cloth, and ripped it to shreds, using it as an impromptu bandage. People were such assholes. Injuring a girl for trying to do the right thing. At some point she realized she was likely thinking this was because she had already lost more blood than was absolutely necessary. She had just settled back against the balcony, when it occured to her some asshat had escaped with her dagger. She liked that dagger. It was super special. And could teleport. And she had gotten it froooom.... Somewhere. Someone. She liked. Her head hurt again. Fuck. This was becoming extra inconvenient. It took a few moments then, once she had dressed her wounds and settled herself, covering up her nakedness with a table cloth again, to realize she had company. Some of the vampires from downstairs, the newly risen, had smelled the blood and come running. She stood shakily, facing around 4 for the time being. She held her blades at the ready all the same. Even the tart with the yellow skirt was her. How nice. She sighed. "Okay. Motherfuckers. I don't have all night. If you want my blood, be prepared to work for it. Now. Let's dance shall we?" Because in this dance, the one which was blood and death and the music the cacophony of dying, she was a master. Edited by Inara Serra, Oct 19 2015, 10:22 PM.

After several seconds of blind indecision, something occurred to Sophie that should have been obvious from the beginning, but given her predicament and subsequent panic had completely overlooked. She was certain that she recognised the voice that was calling for her, but from where? She wracked her brains but ultimately couldn't place it. But it gave her the final push to make a decision and so she started wriggling frantically against her bonds. It caused them to dig painfully into her skin, but it was a small price to pay for what she really, really hoped would be escape from this messed up situation. She'd been blindsided after she'd gone looking for Snow after the chaos started and before she'd even had a chance to fight back she'd been knocked out and when she'd regained consciousness, well, she was wherever she was now with no idea how long she'd been out or what state Snow was in or if she was out of action as well. Damn, if only Ranth had been here this wouldn't be happening. How dare he go off and die and leave her to grieve him while the woman who had stolen him away in the first place couldn't even remember her! Life could be so cruel sometimes... "Ah, there you are. I'll have you down in a sec...", that familiar voice was much closer now and there was a sudden vibration in her bonds before she found herself free falling for a sickening moment and then she landed neatly in the arms of her rescuer. * * * * * He set Sophie down before pulling the blindfold off and stepping back so that she could take in her surroundings and he almost laughed when he saw the look of relief and recognition as she saw him. Now free of her restraints, she was able to remove the gag and struggle to her feet. She looked wobbly, but that was likely due to the fact that she'd been hanging by her arms for the past half an hour or so. "Thanks... who are you?" Were the first words out of her mouth and his lips quirked into the ghost of a smile and he shrugged apologetically, "Not a clue". She regarded him with disbelief before something of greater importance came to mind and her eyes widened. "Snow! Where is she? Is she alright?" Again, he shrugged, but this time he had a little more information to provide. "Last I saw her she was mostly naked and getting thrown around by some vampire lord", he informed her and the woman's eyes widened and then narrowed. "He's the one who captured me, he's too strong for either of us to handle..." He realised that as she trailed off her gaze had come to rest upon him expectantly and he laughed out loud as he realised what the unspoken question was. "Are you stupid? What do you expect me to do against a vampire lord?" His bewilderment seemed sincere and Sophie found herself wondering not for the first time since being freed just what game this man was playing. Was he so scared that he'd gone a little mad or was this all one big game to him? Either way, she had to agree that he didn't seem like a warrior and Snow needed her help. She didn't have time to waste back here. "Fine, stay here and hide. But at least make yourself useful and cut down those other girls", she said to him before turning and making her way back towards where she hoped her guild mate would be found alive... that was about the most she could hope for at present. |

Had anyone been there for both her dancing and her fighting, they would have sworn to the gods it was a different creature which stood before them each time. Her blades were the finest in make, and the strongest, and cut through her foes much like a knife through butter. Easily, with little to no resistance. She grinned as she worked, not the least bit worried about the lives she was taking. Did she think of them as human anymore? Nope. Would her conscience have bothered her if they were human and attacking her? She highly doubted it. She twisted and turned like a ballerina, or a gymnast. Even through her injuries, in this she was all power and grace and elegance. When she was done, their bodies lay broken and scattered in pieces on the floor. She had taken no chances that they might rise again with their newfound strength intact. She sat once she was done, the adrenaline rush of the fight leaving her all too quickly. Now she was just injured and herself. And bemoaning her circumstances. She hadn't noted that as she hacked away at these beings the Lord and the incomer had been continuing their own fight. Nor had she noticed that each take down of a new vamp ended in the Lord himself hurting somewhat. For he was linked to them, whether he liked it or not. Each one was his "child" born of his blood and his thirst in equal measure. "Not suiting you, this dual?" The incomer laughed as the Lord took hits he hadn't delivered with his blessed blade. "Fuck you." A tsk from Helpsin. "Now now my lord. Your façade of calm control is slipping." Snow wasn't sure which one she wanted to throw something at more. She sighed, holding her hand to her side, which had nearly beld through the bandages in her exertions. "Stop teasing him you asshat and just kill him. Don't you know monologues and witty repartee are the downfall of most heroes and villains alike?" Like seriously. Had they never read a book? She rolled her eyes towards the ceiling and back down again. Both of the two on the other side of the room paused for a moment to consider. She hadn't made it clear to whom she might be speaking after all. Soon enough the dual commenced anew, and with both men seemingly full of newfound vigor. She almost instantly regretted even interrupting. This shit was going to take all night after all. Good gods. She hoped Sophie was safe somewhere, and the Lord had been pulling a bluff. She also hoped she wasn't about to pass out from blood loss. Can't have everything. |

With Sophie's departure, he was left alone in the dungeon with the remaining girls and wondering if he should do as she asked or walk away for the sake of asserting his capacity for free will. He tsk'd quietly under his breath as he tossed the dagger into the air several times before catching it decisively and went to work cutting them free. It was the socially correct thing to do and there was when neither course offered anything of greater merit than the other then there was no harm in being the nice guy every now and then. It was as he was cutting down the last of the terrified damsels that he realised he wasn't alone. Unfortunately, the point that he made this realisation was when something hit him hard in the side of the head and sent him crashing into the closest wall. It was the first time he'd experienced pain and he lay where he'd fallen for several moments relishing the bizarre and uncomfortable feeling as his vision flashed an assortment of vivid colours before slowly returning to normal. "I think you killed him... way to ruin the fun before it can even start", a male voice said and he turned his head to see three men were now in the room with him and from the way the women he'd freed cowered away from them, it was safe to assume that they were either the ones who had brought them there in the first place, or at least on the same team. Exhaling deeply, he climbed to his feet and winced as a particularly tender spot on the side of his head made itself known and the pain dulled as anger flared. Apparently that was the instinctive emotional response to being hurt. Interesting. "Oh look, he's still alive, it must be our lucky day!" The third man exclaimed in delight and their gaze turned towards him as he poked gingerly at his head. "We might have let you die painlessly if you hadn't interfered with the sacrifices", the leader of he three sighed, though he didn't sound at all disappointed by the turn of events. He paused however as his superhuman vision allowed him to see the human across the room grinning back at him. "Uh-oh, you must have hit him pretty hard, I think he's lost his marbles", he chuckled before the man's voice floated out of the darkness. "I've been waiting for this all day..." |

Sophie emerged from the tunnels on the ground floor. She knew that Snow was more likely upstairs, considering the dead vampires, and here and the ringing clash of metal on metal upstairs. She hurried upwards, still being cautious as she went. Soon she heard something like a death scream. Very loud, and long and girly. She moved faster, thinking Snow had probably just met her death. Then another yell sounded. And another. All very dramatic. As she neared the top of the final staircase, all out of breath, she heard very distinctly, "Oh for fucks sake! Die with some dignity man!" At the top of the stairs Sophie stopped, looking at the people gathered with nothing short of confusion on her face. In a corner, Snow seemed to be bleeding to death by the looks of her side, but she was giving a seemingly running commentary any way. She was using her sword as a pointer, while her face paled considerably faster each time she moved it. In front of Sophie, a man was sitting on the floor. Kneeling rather. He was clutching his chest, occasionally making noises of pain as the large sword protruded through his chest. But from the way Snow was acting, it was taking a while. Sophie went to Snow as quickly as she could, while the one called the Lord continued to gloat and make sure his enemy was dead. "Are you okay sweetie?" Snow hugged her a little and tried a smile. "I'm glad you're ok. Might want to make your escape while you can. I think he will soon be done talking. And then he will be trying to kill you. And me. Though...I think I'm halfway there." Snow was indeed halfway there. She had lost more blood than was good for any being. Had she been slightly less strong she would already be dead. She sat against the wall, trying to rejoice in her friend returning. But at once sure that she was about to die. And Sophie too probably. She looked on as Helpsin finally finally (this had been going on for a good 15 minutes) died. The Lord turned to Sophie and Snow just as the guy flumphed over. Snow didn't see anything in particular, aside from Sophie standing up and whipping out her fan. "You caught me unawares last time. You won't do so again." And then Snow passed out, hoping if either of them died it would be painless. |

As he took his first step towards the vampire trio, he knew that they hadn't been impressed by his words, not did they appear to feel the slightest unease. To them, he was merely a human and humans were good for one of two things. Sport or sustenance. In this case, he supposed that their intended role for him was the former of the two. "You're trapped in here with us, so try to entertain us for as long as you can", their leader jeered as he stepped forwards with exaggerated slowness as though to make a mocking imitation of a human's gait. "Gentlemen, there seems to be some sort of misunderstanding", he said as he waved a finger at them. "I'm not trapped in here with you. You're all trapped in here with me", he informed them laughed and before they knew what was happening the human before them vanished, leaving their eyes struggling to focus on the suddenly empty space that they'd occupied and then came the sickening crunch as the vampire closest to the exit cried out in pain and alarm. He'd decided to save the leader with the loose tongue for last, purely out of a scientific pursuit of whether or not the undead could feel fear like those who still counted themselves among the mortal. He swept past the closest two enemies and came to an explosive halt as he thrust out his right hand towards the chest of the third vampire and was rewarded with a satisfying moment of resistance before that resistance caved in beneath the blow and the sheer concussive force of the blow tore open a hole straight through the creature's chest. Of course, being a vampire meant that injuries that would have proved instantly fatal for any living being were not so for then, but as he pivoted into a spinning kick against the second vampire, he found that he knew where to target that would do the most damage without incapacitating his opponents completely. In the span of three and a half seconds he'd torn a hole in one vampire and crushed the left arm of the second as his kick sent it crashing into the wall in the exact spot that he'd been thrown during the earlier surprise attack, except that when the vampire collided with the wall, it left a spiderweb of cracks in the mortar as he straightened and gave them a moments grace to regather themselves. "I wasn't planning on getting involved in any of this, but it turns out that even the undead can make interesting impressions in the face of certain death", he remarked with interest as he surveyed each of his opponents in turn. "What the hell are you? You can't be human!" The leader exclaimed, taking an involuntary step backwards as he did so and this led him to bark a short laugh. It was a hollow sound however, devoid of any humour and instead filled with a chilling dread. "All you need to know is that I'm your worst nightmare", he stated flatly and hefted the dagger that Snow had given him with a flourish. "Now then, I think it's time I put this to good use..." |

Snow awoke later, though she couldn't say by how much. She knew it had been a while, since she was tired, and she felt the softness of a bed under her. At least she hoped it was a bed. If it was a coffin, she would be highly disappointed by the cliche. But then she felt the weight of someone sitting down on the mattress beside her, and she was oddly reassured. In pain. But reassured. She opened one eye to see that it was midnight, and she was back in her room at the Lavender Dog with Sophie, who looked quite rough herself. "What happened?" Sophie, in the low light, shook her head. Nothing for you to worry about tonight. You're hurt. The physiker has been in, but he could only do so much. Stop the bleeding mostly. You need food and rest." Snow sighed. She would get the story eventually, but for now she needed food. Her stomach hurt. "Is 'the Lord' gone?" Sophie nodded, though she hesitated at first. "All right. I'm going downstairs for food. And a bath. I feel like I need a bath." Sophie only nodded. It was the middle of the night after all, and Snow would do as she pleased. Sophie knew that. Snow moved down the stairs, grabbing food and a couple of butterbeers from behind the bar. She went passed that into the large communal bathing room, and dropped the sheet she had been using as a robe on her way into the water. She wasn't sure Sophie was being honest with her but she hoped very much that she was. Not that she was going to bother investigating. She instead relaxed into the water and started to munch on whatever cold meats she had gathered. She had a fleeting moment of worry for the masked stranger. She didn't doubt, she thought with a frown, that he had found his way out of the place unscathed. Maybe tomorrow, when she returned to the guild, she would be able to sleep. |

In the dead of night, almost an hour after Snow and Sophie had fled the mansion in dire straits, so too did one other living soul emerge from the now lifeless castle where hundreds of once happy and affluent guests had been having the time of their lives. Now it was home to a sea of corpses adrift in an ocean of dried blood and the figure that made its way into the forest had gone to great pains to ensure that every lingering threat that had taken up residence within the castle of corpses was eliminated. The battle in the dungeon had been a massacre to which the only witnesses- the girls who had been held captive- were blindfolded. But the sounds they'd heard would gaunt them for the rest of their lives both in waking and in sleep. Although they had been saved from the vampires, each and every one of them could only wonder what sort of monster had been in their midst and if pushed, none could have said with a straight face that the lesser of two evils may have perished on that night, for what sort of entity could have torn apart not just those three vampires, but also the remaining vampires who had thought that simply laying low only to take up the mantle of their dead lord once the dust had settled. The figure did not return to the town, for there was nothing there for him except for uncomfortable conversations. Besides... he'd come to acquire such a beautiful dagger, it would be a shame to part with it so soon, would it not? Grinning as he wiped the last of the dried blood from his face by the river that through the valley behind the mansion, he straightened and tucked the dagger into his clothes. In time, he would return this dagger to Snow. He found her and her companion interesting, though he couldn't quite say why. She wasn't strong enough to measure himself against, but still his interest had been piqued. But right now didn't feel like the right time to indulge his curiosity. Somewhere far away the howl of something ancient and ferocious split the air and he smiled. The night was dark and full of terrors and he couldn't wait to meet them all... |
