It was the height of night and the new moon in the sky glowed with its ever radiant almost incandescent light. It was the best time for stargazing as the light itself would provide a good viewing of the stars all across the sky. Tonight, however, was not a stargazing night for a certain pink-haired youth. He was standing on a high branch in the middle of the forest, clutching his chest and seemingly gasping for air. He wasn’t wearing his usual black beanie to cover his messy mop-head and was considerable agitated, sweat trickling down the side of his cheek, his pale complexion almost illuminating against the incandescent light. He was wearing his sleeveless jacket this time seeing as he felt incredibly hot, almost feverish with the compelling cursed magic urging him to feed. After three months of abstaining, it could just get too much of a bother and his body was ready to cave-in and just kill a man. A man. He looked up ahead as his nose picked up a scent. His magic did that for him. Well, it wasn’t a human’s scent that made him wary, it was the human’s blood scent, and the beating of one’s heart. It was like a rhythmic drug that often made him want for more. So despite his apprehension, the way he wanted to just step away and go back to where he had left his companion without a notice to his whereabouts, Keiran gave in to the unrelenting thirst in his burning throat and the deep heavy beatings of his heart. He needed to feed there and now, and sensing the human within the forest was his go-signal. With a powerful leap off the branch, he jumped onto the next tree, hopping one after another in the direction of his prey. And in every step he took, he could feel his urge deepen. He just hoped his abstaining would not cost him a great deal this time around. He did not want to kill another human again. |

Jace ran the back of his hand along his cheek and scratched the unkempt stubble upon it. With a big yawn, he stepped through the beauty of the Lavender Forest with little more than a tired determination. It was no more than three days ago that Jace decided to attempt one of his 'famous' endurance walks. He'd walk non-stop from point to point with few supplies. His largest was a full five days of walking from the Glacial Flats to Acacia after a detour to Magnolia; which needless to say, beat the stuffing out of him. The night was reaching it's peak, the moon was out and baring it's fangs upon the soft canopy of the forest. The chilled north-winds flew against the back of the tall man's fabric cloak, leading it's frayed edges to flicker lightly. Jace was more concerned about the grumble in his abdomen, inadvertently caused when he 'donated' the rest of his food to a surprisingly nimble thief. Not one to blame others for his own shortcomings, Jace regretted not noticing his pocket being picked, especially since he was pretty adept in the skill himself. Nonetheless, he continued his never-ending march at a constant pace, unaware of the threat lingering less than handful of miles away. |

Emily found herself wandering through the forest at night and it was something in which she took enormous pleasure. Others might have felt a primal fear rising in them to grip their stomachs in an icy vice but no such fear could be kindled in the flame-haired girl. She was dangerously immune to any of the instincts that seemed to animate other human beings, so strolling through a place full of predators and potential death caused her no concern. The crisp air cleared her head and the cool light of the moon bathed her pale skin in a way that made her feel strangely comforted. A sudden crack of a branch made the redhead look around. In spite of her immunity to a sense of fear, she wouldn’t have objected to a little fight right now. She drew the black dagger that never left her side and scanned more carefully for the sound. It had actually come from a place somewhere above her head. Glancing up, she could just make out the outline of someone or something above her in the trees. A smile crossed her features at the thought that something fascinating was about to unfold. The red-head’s smile grew broader when she noticed that there was a young man moving through the forest as well. As her green eyes scanned the scene, Emily noticed that the figure in the tree was looking intensely in his direction. She wondered what fascination was about to occur and decided to stay hidden and watch from cover. Perhaps she’d have a chance to exploit things in her favour as the situation unfolded. |

Keiran rushed with conviction of a beast, urged only by the thirst that his magic brought upon his mortal body and he could no longer stop himself from doing what its soft whispers dictated in his mind. With a mind already focused and his senses having claimed that first presence he found, he spared not a moment to the other being that was just beneath the towering trees he waded through. Each branch swayed the slightest at his heel, and finally he neared his target. The man was only but an ordinary man, Keiran thought, and it would truly be a shame for him to die. His stomach growled and Keiran grinned. Both were hungry, it would seem, though Keiran’s need was much more macabre and vile and inhumane. And unlike a human’s hunger for nourishment, Keiran knew that staying away from his sort of hunger would one day rob him of his sanity and perhaps be overcome by the curse and be a bloodsucker for the rest of his life. So without further ado, Keiran disappeared from the branch just atop the man. It was no trick. It was sheer skill and strength. He dropped with enough force to hammer the ground, but he made sure to be gentle. He grabbed the man by the back of his neck before pulling him backward, sweeping a foot under the latter’s in order to unbalance him, and then pummelled him sideways to the ground below. And with a powerful and quick hold, he would reach out and pin the other’s free hand behind his back as he leaned closer, kneeling a knee directly at the other’s back to keep his weight on top and stop him from moving (even though Keiran was obviously smaller in built, but perhaps his strength and surprise attack did the thing for him). “Just close your eyes,” he whispered to the other before he bit into the side of the other’s neck. With the New Moon at its fullest height, his magic would have lengthened his fangs and sharpen them more than a blade, thus would easily pierce through the skin swiftly and smoothly. And with a sucking noise, he would adjust his bite to unhook the fangs from the punctured holes on the neck (luckily not directly into the jugular veins) and squeeze and drink the other’s blood. The sensation the other would feel would first be a searing pain that turns cold and slithering, for unlike a normal bleeding wound, while feeding, Keiran could almost control the quickness of which he would drink the blood. FTG's Most Gentlemanly Snake of 2016

It all happened in an instant. Jace had no time to do anything but grunt as his body crumpled to the ground, the familiar, heavy weight of a person against his back winding him momentarily. His eyes flashed white, the pain in his head flaring up as a rock jarred the side of his skull. He groaned, feeling his eyes and ears adjust in perfect time to hear something that sent a chill up his spine. Laying on his side with his arm painfully trapped behind his back, Jace heard his assailant whisper into his ear "Just close your eyes..." before a sharp pain rocked through his body. Was... Was this person biting him? Jace was disoriented by the blows and his body was in shock by just how quickly he was overwhelmed. He couldn't struggle, far too dangerous, if this person wished they could rip his throat open without a thought. The sound of suckling put a pit in Jace's stomach. He sighed shakily and trembled in the pain magnified by the cold and the stress. He felt his blood pump and suddenly quicken, the pain tripling in an instant. The man groaned and writhed, just hoping he could either grab a hold of the staff that rolled away from his hand or for his blood-drinking friend here to be done. The staff was a sturdy weapon and there was no way someone could dodge out of it's full range if they didn't realise he was swinging. Not to mention it's powerful lightning attack was more than enough to at least stagger this impressively strong individual. His life was in the hands of this vampire/cannibal/haematophiliac. |

This was going to be too easy for the bloodsucker and if there was one thing that Emily abbhored, it was things proceeding in an order that was logical. Logic dictated that the vampire would simply feed and be done. Human life was incredibly cheap from the redhead’s perspective, but she also preferred a chaotic outcome in which she might gain some advantage. There was no advantage in a simple feeding transaction so she decided that an alteration of odds was warranted. It was perhaps still too reckless but what else was she if not reckless? Drawing Blood’s Tear, she stepped from the bushes and stood silhouetted in the moonlight, making her presence known with a slow laugh that echoed eerily in the forest. She said, “Well, well. Someone was a little hungry tonight, wasn’t he? I was never sure if vampires were actually a myth or not, but now I guess I found out. I wonder what I ought to do with you. Maybe I should help your dinner although it’’s a pity I don’t have any wooden stakes available. On the other hand, maybe you want help with him. The third option is that we can all walk away from this situation. I wonder…” The crimson-haired killer twirled her serrated knife slowly and smiled cryptically at both of the people in front of her. It was like tossing dice and waiting to see what would happen when those numbers rolled around. Taking chances was such a delicious thing as far as Emily was concerned. She would take chances even with her own life. Sometimes she tired of the constant struggle with the creeping ennui of existence. |

There was always a strange feeling of fulfilment every time he drank human blood. Whether it was because it was as if he had deliberately deprived himself of it for months and the joy that the first drop would give him was enticingly delicious beyond compare, or simply because his curse made it so, he couldn’t really say. He just knew of one thing and that was this could be dangerous in the long run, an addictive source of his personal elixir. But that joy would be interrupted when he felt another’s presence. A woman, it would seem, as she began her monologue while Keiran took a moment to lean away from his prey and lick his lips where blood dripped. His eyes were serious as they looked out to the intruding woman who gave out such laughable terms if they were indeed a sort of a threat. “Don’t you know it’s rude to interrupt when someone is trying to satisfy himself after months of waiting? And this bum here happens to have a rather delicious set of blood cells. The way the irony taste explodes in your mouth and gushes out in a warm liquified state only to intrude the throat and spread across tingling in your blood stream is surreal. And you just interrupted it,” said Keiran with a frown. Then, he raised a hand and waved the woman away. “Begone now. I’m still thirsty. I can deal with you later.” |
