“How long will it take?” Kieran ran towards Baristan as the old man was seemingly configuring something along the crystal’s panel. “Just a tad bit. Be patient,” said the old man. “Say that when you’re the one fending them off,” the youth replied with a pout before he turned around just at the right moment when one of the creatures had come and attacked him. He avoided the strike before he kicked the thing on the midsection and had it crashing across the platform, skidding without notice that when it hit a fellow creature, they both tumbled over the edge and fell off, like bowling pins. “But oh well, just don’t get too carried away with examining it.” With his pitch-black sword in hand, Keiran went to address the next batch of creatures having scaled to the top of the tower. At this point in time, Baristan was sliding between thin panels that came alive on the crystal’s surface. They were moving in tune with the beating of the pulse that resided within the crystal. The glyphs on each panel was unique, unlike any other and may even be new to scholars of Fiore, but the wizened old man knew them somehow. Perhaps the years of uncovering the mystery of this treasure had led him to numerous records and repository of knowledge to acquire the information needed for this very day. “Just a little bit more. Hang in there, boy,” he said as his hands raced along the surface. With the charging of more creatures his way, Keiran was more annoyed than ever. It would have been a different story altogether if Sayael were with him at that very moment, since he worked far better with his winged friend. He wasn’t exactly the fighter he had wanted himself to be– a hero, a legend, a king– but he was well-enough to handle a sword and direct its edge towards the path of its prey. Still, his cursed magic would have been better off it had actually helped with a more active role. Nevertheless, he saw the opportunity to increase his chances once more. His eyes glowed red as he willed his blood to release the curse’s potential within his body. No sooner did he feel overwhelming strength converging all over his body. As a faint reddish aura glowed above his body, his eyes remained deep crimson. Even the creatures may have felt the change in power now as they seemed to have stop mid-rush before giving him a second look and attacking again. But this time around, Keiran was far faster, stronger, precise and efficient, moving with so little effort and motion and yet dealing enough terror in his wake. A flash of light reflect from his blade as he sped through the numerous creatures atop the tower, limbs flying apart, blood painting the ground. He stopped as he neared the edge and struck one creature just as it lay beneath his feet, its head tumbling down the steps and causing the rest of the creatures to stop in their tracks. Though there were more coming his way, he wasn’t at all scared. He’d take them all on if needed be. But suddenly, a flash of light pierced the heavens from behind him. He turned to see the light originating from the crystal in the middle of the tower, bright and blinding, before the light seemed to explode, forcing him to close his eyes. At that moment, he felt a pushing force, and he fell off from the edge. The light from the crystal rippled down the side of the tower, to the ground, across the forest and to the mountains on the distance. It was a giant shockwave of light and energy. And in its wake, there was relative peace. Not one of the creatures were left, nor were there any traces of their existence.

Julian was quick to continue his climb, the tops of the trees slowly closing in. The beasts were becoming more numerous now, and Julian was forced to defend himself against the scrabbling masses. One more of the beasts were climbing the stairs behind Julian, a black mark marring the side of its face. The rage in its face told Julian that this wasn't a new creature, but a return. "Back for more, yeah?" He beckoned. "Fine, bring it!" The creature didn't seem much bothered by the shock it had received, but definitely pissed about the fall into the branches below. He swung at the young theif's face, but was blocked by Julian's lacrima gauntlet. With his free hand, Julian jabbed his sword at the beast, the strikes being shallow and weak, Tooth and Nail not being designed for stabbing. Still, it was enough to push the creature back for a moment, allowing Julian full range of motion with his left arm, swinging strongly at the creature's head. It ducked, the blade harmlessly clanging off the stone, a shower of dirt spraying across the creatures face. Its hand shot up, clawing at its eyes, as if that were the way to get them clear of the obstructions. In his moment of weakness, Julian took another swing. |

He was still blinded but he knew he was no longer on stable ground. Heck, the breeze that slapped against his back was proof of it, and the absence of anything solid anywhere near him. Even flailing wasn’t helping at all. But he heard a voice so familiar, he could only trust. Calming, so as not to harm the owner of the said voice, he let his hands settle by his sides, his hold on his sword was firm but not because he was about to strike, rather, he didn’t want to lose that piece of weaponry. And with firm hands, he was caught. He gave an umpf! before his free hand quickly reached out to coil around the other’s neck, recognizing that familiar scent of his. And when his vision finally returned from that blinding flash from earlier, he saw the outlines of his face, slowly building, slowly focusing, until his eyes met those beautiful golden orbs. “You are really troublesome,” said Sayael as he was holding Keiran, bridal style, with a coy smile and leaning close to kiss the mage, which forced the other to cancel out all his magic in an instant because of embarrassment. Nevertheless, the winged-horde manage to get them both on the ground safely, where Keiran was still red as a tomato from that sudden kiss, too distracted for a moment before he turned his attention around them. It was only then that he noticed the absence of those creatures. “Are they all gone? Is it over now?” he asked, scanning the area before sheathing his sword back to its equally pitch-black scabbard. Just then, he caught sight of another figure along the stairways, just a little above them. “Who’s that?” “Someone. That fox-man left and this one appeared. He seemed useful so I brought him along,” said Sayael. Keiran couldn’t help but lick his lips, raising a hand over to his throat with a twitch. “Ah, I can smell the scent of his blood from here. He must have gotten hurt. Better go repay him for keeping you safe then.” “That’s it? You’re more worried about him?!” the raven was annoyed, for he knew that Keiran could also smell his blood, even if it was just a small scratch. “Don’t be jealous, you little kid. You’re not going to die from that small wound. He, on the other hand, I can smell a taint in his blood. Could be poison.” And so with that, he rushed towards the stairs to head over to where Julian was at, with Sayael, obviously jealous but following right behind him. And when he reached Julian, he quickly grab the other’s injured hand without so much as asking for permission and said, “I knew it. Whatever cut you here had poison tainted on its blade. You may not know it yet, but you’re blood is already consuming the poison fast. As part of my thanks for staying with my friend, here, I’ll help you.” Then, Keiran took out a small vial from his pouch and gave it to Julian, it’s crimson liquid just about half a glass’ worth. “It’ll heal you so drink it.” “What about the client?” asked Sayael. “Oh, we can go back up for him right after this. I’m sure whatever happened with the light was his doing. He’s safe, I’m certain.” |

“I knew it. Whatever cut you here had poison tainted on its blade. You may not know it yet, but you’re blood is already consuming the poison fast. As part of my thanks for staying with my friend, here, I’ll help you.” On a level, Julian had known it too. He wasn't bleeding nearly so much as to cause his discomfort... this was the work of a pretty strong poison, and even with the demon's blood coursing through his veins, Julian could tell the venom was stronger than Rafiel's blood could handle. He didn't know who this guy was, but, apparently, he was a friend of the man in black... for now, Julian supposed that we enough to trust him. “It’ll heal you so drink it.” Julian took the vial into his hand, uncorking it with his teeth and spitting the stopper over the edge of the obelisk. With little ceremony, Julian tipped back the liquid, the potion tasting bitter, an oily texture coating the inside of his mouth. He sputtered a bit, wishing that Dante were here. His healing magic may not be perfect, but it didn't leave such a bad taste in his mouth. "Thanks, Guv. Though, next time, could ya add something fer the taste?" Almost immediately after the substance was settled in his stomach, Julian could feel it going to work. It wasn't immediate, but it was definitely powerful, giving the thief a surge of energy which he hadn't expected. Even though, Julian kept smacking his lips, trying to work the remains of the liquid off his teeth with his tongue. The look on his face showed his utter distaste for the potion he had been given. |

Keiran grinned when the other drank the vial and commented about the taste. He then placed hand over to Julien’s head, somewhat patting him but not, and his eyes glowed a crimson light for a moment. At that very moment, Julian would feel a strange cooling sensation where the liquid he drank had passed through, a gnawing like irritation on his wound, and without much waiting, he would feel the wound healing, tissues sort of mending and regenerating. “Can’t help you there with the taste since it’s basically my blood you drank. But this was the only way I could truly heal you,” answered Keiran before he patted the man, finally. “My name’s Keiran, by the way, and I’m quite certain my friend, here didn’t bother to mention his, but it’s Sayael.” He then looked up to the top of the tower and seeing as the bright light from earlier had faded, it was a safe guess that they should go up there now and find their client. “Look, I really appreciate that you helped in this. I’ll try and talk to the client to see if he could spare a moment’s gratitude for effort. That said, we better head up and see to him. He might not like the idea of waiting forever for his employees to get back to him right when his request seems just about done.” And so, with that said, Keiran would lead the way up to the tower, following the spiralling stairway along the side of the tower. Sayael chose to follow from behind, clearly glaring at Julian now as it would seem he wasn’t really a fan with Keiran sharing his precious blood with a stranger. No matter how noble the act was, it meant war. After all, this was his wife, and his wife shouldn’t be paying attention to any other male than he. But he made sure not to let his killing intent ooze out any further, else he would earn a striking reprimand from his human. It didn’t take them long to reach the top of the tower where Baristan was. Surprisingly, the old man was as lively as ever, and the crystal pillar was gone. In its wake was a smaller pedestal, made of rock, and on it was a small dagger made of fine crystal. “What took you so long? We finally found it!” proclaimed Baristan, still admiring the dagger, not daring to touch it. And only when he looked up did he notice the blonde companion. “Eh? A new guy?” |

Julian sputtered and spat, trying to wipe away the taste with renewed earnest. The pink-haired kid had just given him his blood to drink? and didn't even warn him? What the hell!? Still, if it was as he said, Julian didn't have much to complain about... but that didn't mean he had to like it. The pat on the shoulder just made him more on edge. “My name’s Keiran, by the way, and I’m quite certain my friend, here didn’t bother to mention his, but it’s Sayael.” "Julian." he eventually sighed, extending his hand, "Nice ta be meetin' ya, Guv." Noting the fact that his employer was at the top of this structure, Keiran continued up the spiraling staircase, Julian quick on his heels. As they ascended, Julian could feel a pair of eyes boring into his back, Sayael having taken up the rear. He had seemed like a bit of a hard-ass before, but now, the man in black was starting to give Julian the creeps. "What took you so long? We finally found it!" After a moment, the man's attention came to Julian, Eh? A new guy? "Julian. Pleasure's mine." The curt reply came with a small bow, indicating that he was currently in service to the man. Still, as always, Julian's true allegiance was to Raven Tail second, and himself first. It didn't really matter to him what this guy was after, only that he get compensated for what he'd done for him... Taking that coward's share would probably do well, for a start. |

Keiran neared the pedestal and examined the said dagger as well with curious eyes. As far as the information was about the item they were searching for in this forest, there was nothing to say that it would be this incredibly small weapon. Heck, with the way those demonic creatures were so guarded about it made it seem quite anti-climactic now that the true treasure has made its presence known to its explorers. “Ehhh, such a small thing? What do you reckon it really is? I mean, no one has actually recorded any specific detail about the treasure of Icweiner, right?” said Keiran once more as he tried to pry for information, trying his best to ignore the warmth on his back now. Apparently, Sayael was quick to follow but instead of merely looking at the item, the raven was embracing him from behind, being all too protective now… or just plain impatient because he knew well the mission was done now, so he couldn’t care less about holding himself back anymore. “Oi… wait, will you?” “No. We’ve been apart for long enough,” the raven insisted and Keiran knew better to just give up because that tone usually meant that this winged idiot would not accept another answer from him. And it often makes him question just who exactly was the master in this relationship of theirs? In any case, Baristan gave Julian a look over before he returned his gaze to the dagger and cleared his throat as he took out a journal from his satchel and began to flip through the rather used pages, turning yellow from time with dog-ears and torn sides. “Indeed, there is nothing about the usage of the treasure, but if I can bring this to the Institute, my research will formally begin.” He showed the page with a rough sketch of a dagger of similar design as the crystal before them before finally closing the journal and putting it back to the satchel. He then took out a piece of leather and wrapped it around the crystal dagger before placing it inside his bag as well. “In any case, I am in your debt for this service. Despite your strange crew, you young ones proved capable. I hope to hire you in the future for future services,” said Baristan as he then handed them a pouch filled with the payment. Keiran took it and said his thanks. The group would then begin to descend down the tower, and only when they had actually reached the ground would the earth shake once more and they would see the tower descending until it was hidden in that underground town past the cave they entered earlier, leaving no trace of its towering might. “Guess this is good bye. Until next time, boys,” waved Baristan. Keiran waved to the old man before looking back to Julian and giving him his share of the money, “A token of gratitude.” Edited by Sinjin, Nov 19 2015, 10:19 AM.

Almost as soon as he had money in hand, Julian was counting his take. It was way more than he had expected, given how much work he'd done, but it was definitely enough to cover the hazard pay, as well as the unpleasantness pay of having to drink Keiran's 'elixer' just now. "Julian Rousseau, old man. Remember that name. It'll do ya good." Perhaps it wasn't the best impression that Julian could have made, but it was definitely a very telling one. He had grown cocky and arrogant since leaving his past with Moreau behind him. This was only exaggerated by the demon's influence on his subconscious, an activity which Julian still wasn't privvy to. Julian almost didn't notice what Keiran and Sayael were up to, too busy with his own activities to bother. It seemed that what Sayael had mentioned before wasn't a joke, as Julian had assumed... These two were a couple. Alright, Julian had to admit that was a bit unexpected. Still, it didn't really color his opinion of them any. Sayael was still a creepy hard-ass and Keiran was still a pompous blood-giver. "Right." he started, not bothering to bother the two of them, "So, the thought occurs that I still have no fuckin' clue what those things were..." "... And honestly, I don't care. I got paid." He wasn't sure who these guys were, exactly, but he knew that working with them was, at the least, revealing. It hadn't been much, but this little excursion had taught Julian a lot about what magic and a good sword could do. In honesty, Julian was vaguely relieved that the demon's magic had overtaken his own, non-combative spells. He figured he should take his leave, but before he left, he figured he should make sure the other two were OK. "You two... all right?" |

That wasn’t really the best of time to ask how they were since Sayael was sneaking to kiss the pink-haired mage again, only to get a smack straight at his face. Then Keiran turned to look over to Julian as if this was a normal thing to him by now and waved at him. “No problem. We’re just off to return to town. If you need to rest as well, you can drop by. It’s just near. Heeeeh…. I still have an inn to pay for, especially when a certain someone had decided to book it for two nights. Seriously, I dread for tonight.” Sayael, his smirk returning to his face, quickly grabbed Keiran entirely and placed him over his shoulder as he began to walk in the direction of the town. “No complaining. I’ve been very patient all throughout this mission of yours, even had to deal with those disgusting things and those humans. You have to keep your end of the deal. The mission is over with and I need you to keep your word.” “Will you put me down, you big bird!” “I don’t hear you. I don’t hear you at all,” the raven continued to walk despite Keiran’s attempts at flailing only to be deterred and he was already embarrassed at being manhandled that way in front of the blonde. Good thing the client was long gone now else it could have proven problematic for future employment. In any case, he looked up to Julian once more and waved, “I’ll see you around, Julian. I’m sure our paths will cross again. And until then, try not to get wounded or anything, because really, your blood smells delicious I might end up not helping you next time around… I mean, try not to bleed to death. ‘Kay, bye!” And thus, with another hefting motion, Keiran almost tumbled over but Sayael got a good hold over him and the raven took faster strides to get away, disappearing into the forest and on his way to the town’s entrance. |

"... Riiiight..." The way those two were acting... Julian wasn't sure if he wanted to stop off with them. Nah, he figured they would probably need their space. Besides, Julian had other things he needed to attend to... Like, for example, getting his hands on some choice items from the Guild of Wishes. It wasn't really ethical to be stealing from one shop to sell in another, but Julian was never really one for ethics anyways. Besides, it would be a while before his shop was up and running, the building where it would end up still being little more than a hollow husk, unfinished and falling to pieces. Still, it didn't hurt to start building up his stock now. "I'll try not ta bleed out," he laughed, "But I ain't promisin' nuthin'." He moved in the opposite direction of the duo, headed deeper through the forest in the direction of the merchant encampment. He had been distracted by all this for too long, and there was still a lot of work to be done. The thief pulled the bone fragment from his interior pocket, the blackened hunk emblazoned with a new passage. "No matter where you go now, The future stays the same Doesn't matter where or when or how Death will follow, with your fame." "Always a well of inspiration, innit you?" |
