After a little bit of time searching this part of the forest, Keiran had a feeling they weren’t as lucky as the other two, who were possibly probably making more progress than he and this old man. He glanced over to Baristan who was quite into the search himself. The old man was not shy to look so obsessed about this entire exploration thing, and while Keiran was keen to complete this mission, he wasn’t exactly as thrilled as the other was displaying. In fact, he was more conflicted. This may be his first mission but he wasn’t at all impressed by the scope of it. A search, damn it. Like a mundane thing.

He shrugged as he nudged a rock with his boots, feigning examination and then moving on. If this forest were to hide such a thing, he wondered if it would really be easy to spot it. After all, the people would have surely sent more delegates to look for it. Not like Baristan was the sole individual who knew of the treasure’s existence. And if that was the case, what was the chance of enemy attackers hiding in their surroundings and waiting for that one moment to attack?

Sayael raised a brow at the other’s words. He scoffed at those words. If there was anything annoying about him, it was the prevalence of cautiousness. He could almost smell from the way the other was moving and talking and just about breathing. But perhaps he could not fault the other for it. Unlike him, this man, er hanyou, was only half of it. Unlike him, who was a prideful winged-horde, this was a matter of the halfbreeds debate. Indeed, perhaps society at the moment didn’t look upon his kind too favorably. Nevertheless, he would have to make sure this fox doesn't temp his human.

And then, the next few words annoyed him the more. “Why on earth should I ask help from a primitive bird? I am a not a bird. I do not speak to birds. I eat birds!!!!” he growled at the other before he looked away and started to stomp as he walked on the path. “And don’t think you can order me around, halfbreed. You're not my keeper!”

And just at that moment, a couple kanas flew out from the shadows of the trees, aiming at the two. A couple of presence were now lingering with them and seemingly eager to end their existence. This was pretty much confirmed when a haughty laughter echoed in the air, followed by, “I didn’t think the old man would send such lousy pets to find his little toy. But I suppose it’s a good thing so that I can finally stretch my lazy body.”

A couple more kanas flew as those words were said, each deadly and accurate. And the enemy remains unknown.

“I didn’t say I was your keeper.” Ayn said flat faced, trying not to let his mischievous nature get too much of the better of him and screw this up before he even had a chance to cash in on the meal he’d been looking forward to. In this case the only part grounding his more human self was the gnawing hunger in his stomach that bubbled slightly but silently. “I was just asking anyway.” He yawned away at, it was true he’d never seen anyone like this before, and if they were working together for the short term future in something that the bird guy though might be dangerous, he was going to make sure that he knew what he could do.

Before he could enquire anymore about what else this guy could or couldn’t do, objects soared past his line of sight, it took a moment to realise they were throwing weapons. Stepping back behind a tree hopefully out of the line of any more Ayn looked shocked and turned around to see if there were any more deadly objects soaring towards the pair. “What the hell?” Ayn said under his breath, not sure on what that was about, the words that came with it were ominous almost a warning, this was the sort of moment he’d try and bolt for it, but without any real cover after exiting from behind the tree, there was little hope for him. Looking over at the bird brain, the half fox lowered his posture and his voice to match. “Any ideas?” He asked almost silently, feeling the side of his own trousers for the daggers stowed inside, he was by no means proficient with them, he’d only gotten them as a gift and kept them instead of flogging it for a bit of cash as it was better to be prepared than not to be.

Drawing the left dagger out slowly, the half fox perched it against the ground, using the shiny blade almost as a mirror to look out from behind the tree to see where the weapons had come from, hoping that they were still there rather than vanishing into the undergrowth to try and pincer around to the side. “I hope you have some bird power than can get us out of this mess.”

Sayael made a brief triumphant look as he saw the other clamp up. He didn’t like being talked to, aside from his human who has every reason and right to. He was about to quote another of his many quotes that themed around pride and dignity of the mythical folks when an unexpected assault concerned them both. Almost immediately, Sayael drew out his sword and parried the attack, deflecting the incoming kunais that were shot his way, eyes looking deadly yellow as he glared into the shadows. He could smell that rotten intent.

But before he could truly address the issue, the half-fox went and called him a bird. “I’m not a bird!” He declared, almost swinging his Rashomon to cut off the infidel’s head, stopping shortly when more kunais were shot at them, for which he went and deflected them once more.

“I see you are quite capable. This might prove exhilarating. Hohohoho,” said the voice once more as the forest began to be engulfed in darkness. “I wonder if you rely so much on your senses that you could escape this void.”

Sayael clicked his tongue in annoyance before he grabbed Ayn by his free hand and got him up close. “Don’t lose your way. No, use your goddamn fox heritage! This is nothing to the likes of us.”

And if they were not careful, there were more moving about them in the shadows, all bladed, all intent on severing their heads from their bodies.

Meanwhile, Keiran and Baristan stumbled upon the entrance of what seemed to be a cave. They were hesitant at first and Baristan took extra measures to be certain it was no trap. He threw a rock inside and waited. When nothing happened, he supposed it was safe. It would be too cliché if they did find the treasure inside, but Keiran went along with his plans. The sooner, the better – he thought. Thus, the two explorers entered the cave, completely unaware of the events unfolding on the other side of the forest.

Ayn was a little surprised to see that the bird man could handle himself in a fight. Ayn had never really experienced this sort of combat before, the most he’d done was a few fist fights when he was a rowdier youth. This was a little too far out of his league, he was able to feel that but still he didn’t feel too affected by the knowledge. The fox half of him seemed to sate the worry with a sense of distance, sure this was happening in front of him but his supernaturally cocky nature seemed to make him feel a little too blasé about the whole thing. From his point behind the tree he could see what was happening and at least be out of direct line of the attacks.

But before he could fortify his position or be much use, not that he was going to be if he ha attempted to intervene, the bird man’s hand grasped his own and started to pull him along. Not the sort of thing he’d been expecting when he’d signed up to help not too long ago, but it was indeed more interesting than moving to the next city with no rations or having to go back into Poinsettia to trifle around with the oddest of jobs. “We should head up.” Ayn said in between short breaths as he endeavoured to keep his calm and not enter some sort of state where he didn’t care too much about physical injury, something that would get himself if not the pair killed in this situation.

He had little combat knowledge but felt like the advice was just, head up and then they only have one direction they can try and attack from instead of the numerous there where while on the floor. “Flank them to the tree top and then see if we can’t out run them up there?” He queried, wondering if the bird man was up for it, as he’d end up needed to aid Ayn who was indeed physically able, but in the light of what was happening, once again a little too out of his own league.

They were already surrounded in darkness and the foxboy wanted to go higher. That was great logic there, though wouldn’t that only make them vulnerable to attacks from all sides and the bottom and above as well? Sayael didn’t know what to make of it. He really didn’t. Certainly, if this was Keiran, he may have made a snarky come back because he liked ruffling his feathers, but this stranger was just a different matter altogether.

“There’s no need for us to play in their game,” said Sayael as he raised Rashomon above him, a charge of power running from the hilt of the blade and then coursing towards the tip. Then without warning, he struck down the sword, sending a charge of lightning bolt surging through the thick darkness, cutting the enveloping void as well as a couple of trees. And with the darkness rescinded, their foes were now to be seen, “An unusual surprise, I must say.”

Standing surrounding the two were five small kids, all garbed in what looked like ninja clothes, baring a sharp blade on one hand, and kanas ready to fly on the other. And they all looked rather surprised when their advantage had disappeared. Too surprised that they immediately stepped away from the two strangers, cautious, yet they glared with a seething rage.

Meanwhile, as Keiran and Baristan entered the cave, they were greeted upon quite immediately by a forking tunnel. This wasn’t at all that great. Kieran knew this would force them to separate from the other and who knows what could happen next. In fact, he wasn’t so sure if the old man could take care of himself. And it wouldn’t do him good if the client died.

“I know what you’re thinking but we’re not separating. I need you alive,” said Keiran quite bluntly as he and the old man began to take the right path. “Besides, two heads are better than one. If we can search this area fast enough, we can always backtrack and search the other path.”

“My mind exactly,” said Baristan as he led the way with a lit torch, quite handy really.

“So, just to be certain, I don’t need to be a bodyguard as well, right?”

“Ha ha ha. No need, young man. I am capable myself,” said the other with a quite lift of his strapped sword.

“A knight?” Keiran saw the worn out crest at the hilt.

“A few decades ago, yes.”

“What happened?”

“A long and boring story. Let’s just say I find adventure more thrilling than waiting for command.”

“Ah… Makes sense. I’m quite the same in that respect.”

But as they would proceed, they would be unaware of a pair of lingering eerie eyes, too large for a human’s.

The Sir of FTG
Julian was enjoying his time away from the Flock, although he probably wouldn't tell the others that. Still, coming to Poinsettia had been just the diversion he had needed, considering how busy he had been of late. The Lavender Forest was home to the GUild of Wishes, and that was Julian's current destination. He wanted to see what they had there... and possibly pinch some of it.

He was minding his own business, keeping to the path, but then the darkness came and the faint sounds of voices drew him away from his goal. Trying to keep quiet and unseen, Julian approached, not sure of what he might find. It was not long before his task was made more difficult, and with a flash of lightning, the darkness seemed to evaporate completely, allowing the sun's ray to shine down on the young theif.

It was defintely a strange sight to behold, with several children apparently facing off against a couple men who were about Julian's age. The thief craned his neck around the tree he was leaned against, trying to get a better look. The sound of a twig snapping underfoot gave away his position, earning a pair of eyes which seemed far too brutal to belong to a child.

Almost immediately, there was a flash of metal in the air, sending Julian ducking for cover. Three impacts were heard, and from them Julian could tell that he'd find the three blades embedded into the tree he'd used for cover. Almost immediately after, he was running through the trees, hearing more thwaks as he passed between the trees, en route to the other two which weren't trying to kill him.

"Aw'right, Gents, fill me in later!" he called to them as he approached, "Jus' tell me iffin' ya got a plan or if we're just kickin' some ass!"

His swords were drawn, hooked blades facing forwards. He didn't like the idea of being in these little bastards' lines of sight, but he figured it was best to stand with his potential allies. After all, the enemy of my enemy is my friend... right?

It was clear that Ayn wasn’t so sure about sticking around and Sayael wouldn’t want to force the fox-man about it. So he swung out his sword and three larger swords from the smoke that formed high above his head. “Go,” he told Ayn, as he would make a path for him to run away before facing directly at the kids. No, they weren’t at all children, not when they had a knack for throwing poison and kunais at their enemies. These were well-trained guardians of some sort.

However, it was at that very moment when a strange looking man had entered the fray. This blonde was seemingly as reckless as Ayn but he seemed more than eager to wrestle the case before them, which seemed like a great idea since with Ayn gone now, Sayael would have easily been outnumbered. But first, he must address a few issues…

“First of all, talk like a real person. I can’t understand you, human,” said Sayael as he deflected another kana aimed his way. The children were regrouping far from the newly made duo now. He flapped his wings behind him as the three large swords that hovered above him revolved. “Second, there would be no need for a fight if these pests were not here. I don’t have the luxury for the thrill of it, either. So if you’ll help, I appreciate it, but these kids seems to know what I came looking for. Try not to kill at least one and get it to talk.”

With that, Sayael dashed forward, the three large swords following suit and the moment one of the ninja kids were within range, the swords began to swing one after another. But as for Julian, he will have to fend off against another duo from the ninja kids, seemingly wearing almost identical black garbs, one now producing a katana and the other a kusarigama (chain sickle), and their fighting form was perfect in supporting each other to attack Jullian.

Meanwhile, Keiran and Baristan followed through with the right path and as they neared the end of it, they found themselves in a much larger cavern. This place was ancient, like a town of some sort, with houses built or carved from the walls. However, there was no one within sight. If anything, the most distinguishable thing about the place was that everything seemed…. miniature.

“Looks like a house meant for children,” said Keiran as he examined the small wooden door that was hinged against the earthen wall that seemed to have been built ages ago.

“I’ve heard about the under-dwellers of these areas before. They have long perished, sadly. But if anything, this means we should be near to the treasure we search for. After all, the last records say they were the protectors of it.” said Baristan.

Julian wasn't sure what to make of this guy. He was a bit of an asshole, but for now, Julian didn't have the time for arguments. Right now, he had to fight.

Julian stayed behind as the man in black rushed forwards, smoky swords flying after him. As he engaged in battle, two of the ninjas approached Julian. He braced himself, a bladed weapon flying towards him with a speed he almost didn't have time to counter. The kusarigama's chain wrapped around the smaller of his two swords, and with a flick of his wrist, the ninja tore it from his hand.

The second ninja was quick to approach, katana drawn to strike. The blade glanced off Julian's gauntlet, sending sparks flying through the air. However, the ninja was not finished with his assault, quickly sending a kick into Julian's gut pushing off the thief's stomach to leap backwards.

"Oh, you little shits!" he murmured.

Julian was quick to reciprocate, holding onto his remaining sword with both hands, his lacrima replacement gripping the blade in lieu of a better hand-hold. The smaller of the two, wielding the Kasuarigama, was the target of Julian's attack, but did not end up the recipient, quickly dodging out of the way. His friend was quick to back him up, slashing at Julian's arm with his sword.

Julian growled like a feral animal, lashing out at the larger of the two in retaliation for the wound, the edge of the sword just barely slicing into the young ninja's hand. A look of surprise flashed in the boy's eyes before reverting into fiery determination.

As Sayael pushed the three brats, they were completely busy trying to deal with the lunging flying swords and the winged-horde’s own katana, Rashomon. Each swing was deadly and precise that the kids had to help each other out, especially when the blade could almost nick at their skin. Another step forward and this time Sayael changed the rhythm of his strikes, attacking from above and then below, cutting through the thick of a tree without a second thought, slashing open one of the black masks that the ninjas wore.

And lo and behold, his suspicion was true. There was no child to fear. There was but a man, aged and mutated, cringing at the freshly cut scar across his cheeks as he jumped backward and two of the ninjas guarded him. He who wore the flesh and body of a child, but whose real identity and nature was of something ancient, oh how Sayael could easily see it now.

“Under-dwellers, I see,” he snarled as he parried one of the ninjas’ attempt to strike at him before he countered and the three large swords followed suit.

“So, do you think we’ll still find that treasure?” asked Keiran as they forced open of the wooden doors that led into that miniature house carved into the wall of the cave. It was dark, alright, but Baristan’s torch was bright enough to illuminate the scene.

“Well, considering how this house hasn’t been used for a long time, but seem well-preserved, I can assume there was nothing too serious about how they vanished. No sign of chaos, hence, no sign to say the treasure would have been taken away either,” answered Baristan as they examined the shelves where the wares were all kept, fine and dirty, but no chink or scratch.

“Well, they could have just migrated with it,” said Keiran as he tried to open another door and they found the dinning room where the table was all set, though no food was served but the cutleries were all prepared. “Like, so sudden they didn’t pursue dinner.”

“Perhaps it was magic,” said Baristan.

“Like they just disappeared?”

“We’ll know eventually. Let’s check the next one.”

Julian was starting to feel the tides turning in his favor as he continued his fight against the pint-sized shinobi. It wasn't a landslide, by any stretch of the imagination, but it was, at least, a fair fight, despite the stilted odds. Julian wasn't quite as fast as his opponents, but his power and size made up for it in spades. Still, the ninja still had some tricks up their sleeves.

The smaller of the ninja threw his weapon at Julian again, this time, the weighted end coming straight for Julian, wrapping around his left arm. He struggled with the chains for a moment before a grin started to show from the corner of his mouth. He flexed his hand, electricity crackling along the gauntlet. In a moment, the electricity found its out, traveling along the chain and into the ninja's weaponry.

The small man wasn't ready for this, dropping his weapon to the ground. With a quick tug, the weapon skittered across the ground to Julian's feet, the chains slipping from his armored replacement hand. Still, the smaller ninja wasn't discouraged, however, instead pulling out a throwing knife. In a moment, it was airborne, headed straight for Julian, sinking into his shoulder.

Julian's lacrima hand instantly shot up to his shoulder, pain getting the best of him. He yanked the blade out, blood spilling out from the wound in small spurts. He looked at his shoulder, then the ninja who'd wounded it, seeing that another small blade was moments away from following its brother, sending Julian scrambling for cover. Finding none, Julian did his best to dodge the blade, the cutting edge whizzing past the young thief's head.

Julian was quick to close the distance, understanding the dangers of being at-range of this little menace. He glanced around quickly, looking for his missing weapon, which the smaller shinobi had tossed aside. It would prove to be the difference in this fight, if only he could get his hands on it...
