mission request Keiran was still adjusting to life in Fiore though he was very thankful that the guild he had joined had welcomed him with open arms. That is to say, perhaps his predicament and goal in life were in tandem with theirs. After all, Lamia Scale was filled with geniuses and researchers and academicians to the magical lores of the universe and there was no other place to be in when he sought for something similar. In particular, he was hoping to rectify his current lamentable state of cursed magic so that he could finally return home and be a conqueror, even if it is still quite objectionable. In any case, there was a sense of pride that swelled up in him that urged hm to do his very best in assisting his guild. After all, they were out to help him with his current dilemma about his cursed magic, so it was only but natural that he should aide them in some form. That and because he thought it was only right for a soon-to-be-king that he ought to start on a good note and who knows if one day he’ll have to make treaties with Fiore and so a good relationship with one of its influential guilds was a must. Ah, but before he could dream further to his plans of conquering the world, he ought to participate in the guild. Thus, he was standing in front of the bulletin board. Thus, he picked out a random note that was posted there. Thus, he came to the counter to assess the possibility of taking care of the request he plucked. And thus, he was now on his way out to meet the client and starting his way of paying back the guild. Still, he couldn’t help but feel it was quite annoying that his companion, the winged-horde ninja Sayael, was having much fun eating ice cream as they were walking. And none for him. “You said you were quitting on sweets,” said the bird-man before he continued to lick on the delicious cold treat as he walked, towering, right next the mage. “It’s actually a good decision. Who knows what sickness you’ll get if you continue with your radical eating patterns. Though I do not mind at all since I prefer the you right now than a sickly man of skin and bones. It’d be hard to hug you at night.” Oh and perhaps the one thing forgotten to say about this companion was that he had already taken it upon himself that he would be Keiran’s husband. Though a wing-horde, a man with wings and talons for toes, he was big-boned and naturally taller and larger than a normal human. He was dressed in black garb and with equally black wings folded behind him, and equally black hair but with stunning radiant yellow eyes that had always captivated Keiran and onlookers alike. And yet, he was only a mere 100-year old young man. And sometimes, Keiran would wonder why the other acted too much like a child especially with him… when they’re both decent, at least. “We’re in a mission, Sayael. Try to focus here,” said Keiran in annoyance as they continued towards the outskirts of Poinsettia where they were supposed to meet the client. “And to think you were squishing me all night long. I swear I almost choked to death.” “But it’s only natural for me to embrace my bride at night,” said the bird-man as he quickly ate the rest of the ice cream and embraced Keiran from behind, which earned him a fist to the cheek. “I like it too when you’re being like this. But as agreed I’ll behave while on missions.” So he ended up kissing Keiran before he returned to walking beside the other. “There, all better now?” “Shut up,” Keiran spat though he was red all around the ears even as he adjust his beanie in an attempt to hide his embarrassment. Ayn stood at the edge of the forest; resting his back against a tree, his tails phasing in and out of the large trunk as though it wasn’t even there. He’d spend most of the morning collecting his things together from the bed and breakfast he’d been staying in and retrieving his pay from the small jobs he’d had around town on sort of a tick system. Instead of money what he’d hoped for instead he was given some goods for his efforts, true he needed food but what he was given would go off quickly and he needed to cover a good deal of ground. “Cheapskates.” He cursed in his Pergrandian tongue, flicking through the bundle of food he started picking out pieces of bread that had started to turn mouldy around the edges and fruit that was so bruised he’d have difficulty eating it without vomiting. “I thought people were supposed to be hospitable and fair here.” He thought back. There was still enough to get somewhere else and find work there for his next meal but he’d have to ration it. Folding the parcel back up and placing it in his pack with a collection of other things, the half fox simply stood there thinking through his next moves, if he had more food he’d have taken the scenic route and wouldn’t have been too concerned about how far away the next town was, but with his current luck he had little in the way of spare time to make it to the next town, no careless mistakes of taking the wrong turn would be forgiven and in any situation he’d likely turn up with an empty stomach and have to undergo some sleight of hand to palm off a few loaves of bread to give him the energy to do a solid day of work. He did have another option though, if he were lucky enough to track down some traders, he’d be able to swap whatever services they needed for a guide to the next big town and an extra few meals along the way. “I have nothing else to lose.” He sighed, pulling out the best apple from the back and starting to bite into the fruit, it’s bitter sweet taste feeling a lot like how he had left the city. It didn’t take long for the half fox to circle a good distance around the city to one of the larger exits, he was still a good few hundred paces from the road but could already see traders entering the city on their path to riches. It was his hope he could find a larger caravan to pull out with, he’d stayed long enough in the city and wanted to see other places, he knew well enough that venturing back inside would mean a minimum of another two or so weeks stay and by then he’d likely find it easier to find lodging and his short detour for money would end up in habitation of the city. “I need to find a way for quick cash.” Ayn said out loud. Slowly approaching the main road while his hopes started to fall as he saw no outgoing trading caravans. “Nothing…” If he couldn’t find work on the move the only other hope he had was to find someone to direct him to the closest town this side of the city; at least then he’d have an idea of where he was going and have the minimum time on an empty stomach. Finally reaching the road, or at least a small off cut that headed more in a westerly direction, Ayn started to enquire. “Does anyone need any help, I’ll accept a good number of hot meals as payment.” Was his first enquiry to passing traders, most just batting an eyelid at his tails and silently moving on. “Anyone need any help, I’m looking for company to the next town over.” Was his next attempt, trying to lower his demands to see if anyone was at all interested, but still nothing seemed to grab the attention of the people; most seemed to have some well-equipped guard, maybe ex-Knights with them and the poorer traders thought they had nothing worthwhile guarding so weren’t going to dish out for a random teen on the side of the road. “Anyone need any help, or can anyone just give me directions?” Was his last ditched effort to attract attention, if that didn’t work he’d just have to wing it and go off without a clue of where he was headed. |

Keiran would continue to lead the way through the town they had just entered after a short train ride. He was still slightly annoyed with Sayael even though he was beginning to act more like a girl with the way he was being too bossy. And surprisingly, the winged one didn't resist. He would just tease him more after feigning ignorance to the other's claims which often ended with a kiss. And even if Keiran wanted to forget about it, he'd already gotten used to them. Still, a mission was a mission and he had to get his partner in the game... Even if it meant having to play along with the other's idea of their marriage. As soon as they were in town, they quickly went for the exit leading to the forest. The request bill had said that he was too meet with the client somewhere near the forest or perhaps he'll have to find him first. He wasn't so sure since there wasn't exactly any notice of where they would find him and the to leave the meeting place as simply "forest" would literally make this acres wide forest a sort of haystack to the metaphorical needle that was the client. And as they were just about to enter the forest he came across a tall man who was seemingly calling out for help of some sort. He paused and looked at the man and then back to Sayael. Immediately, he could tell that there was a kind of jealousy when he saw Sayael glare at the man in question. "Hey, don't be rude." "But you're mine," said Sayael quickly grabbing Keiran into a bear hug while still glaring at the White haired man. Keiran had to punch him to let him go. "I said we're still on a mission," said Keiran as he went and approached the man, "Hey, I know it might sound suspicious but if you need help to get to the next town I can help you but I think you'd rather earn that right, huh? Coincidentally, I'm on my way to earn my keep. Would you like to come along?" It was more of a simple invitation really, that and because he figured from the mission on locating a certain treasure in this forest that more help would be much appreciated. That and because, "By the way, what's your blood type? I think we'll be good friends somehow. Hahaha!" A blood bank was hard to find in Fiore and Sayael wasn't really human do he'll definitely need a source for emergency feeding, especially since the New Moon was getting near. It didn’t take long for Ayn’s perseverance to pay off a little; or that is what it seemed like on first glance of the odd pair. But from personal experiences he knew that odd wasn’t always wrong or something to avoid. “Hello.” He said friendly enough to warrant a response but not overly exuberant to make himself too childish or turn off his potential employer. There wasn’t much of a rundown of what he wanted doing but after having enough time to think things through while standing looking for help Ayn was sure that he couldn’t care less he just didn’t want to take a detour back into the town and spend the foreseeable future trying to pay off over priced accommodation. “As Long as I get money or food and get away from the city; I’m fine with any sort of jobs.” Ayn admitted, shrugging to himself in a careless fashion, it was the truth and there was little point dolling it up. “I’m Ayn.” The half fox explained, wondering how to respond to the second statement, he’d heard that some cultures valued blood type as a way to determine personality and potential matches, not that he was readily looking for any sort of relationship, especially one with some random person at the side of the road. “I don’t think my blood has any real normal type.” Ayn stated looking blankly at the pair or spiritual tails floating behind him that until this point had been cleverly hidden by his own back. “I don’t think I’m entirely off the shelf.” It was the only explanation he could come up with to brush over it enough to not have to explain his entire messed up history. “And you; is that your friend or a guard?” he asked, pointing at the other figure who was much taller than the person he’d been talking to up until this point. Pulling out a small snack from the little edible food he had left, thinking now he’d found himself a job and he could use that to sustain himself, the half fox bit into another piece of fruit, this time a sweet tasting one that made him think of a peach, however the almost purple flesh of it made him sure it wasn’t. Swallowing sharply at the bitter aftertaste he continued with the small talk. “So what exactly do you want me to do?” He started, thinking about taking another bite of the bittersweet fruit, thinking it a rather iconic metaphor for his stay in poinsettia, “Is it just traveling companion or something more substantial?” Ayn asked, curious if bandits and vagabonds would openly recruit people looking for work at the side of the road; he’d heard of stranger things before but it would still be a tale to tell the grand kids. |

Keiran was a bit happy that the guy seemed quite interested, and though perhaps he was hoping there would be a little bit resistance because he had hope that this new country was a bit more cautious, he was a bit puzzled if this man would simply accept any offer given his way without a moment’s notice after his earlier shout for help. Oh dear. If that were the case, then Keiran truly needed to help this fellow. In fact, he was beginning to think about regretting on thinking of having to drink this man’s blood after finishing the mission, and he just wanted to keep him in his pocket and keep him safe. Such was the mindset of a proper conqueror, a person who should be caring of his people and this man would, in the far future for now, be one of those denizens. “Ah, never mind, never mind. Your blood type doesn’t matter, you’re right,” he quickly said as he neared the other and shook hands with Ayn. “My name’s Keiran. From your name’s etymology I can almost assume you’re from Pergrande. Don’t worry, brother, for I am the same.” He really wanted the other to feel less apprehensive now, especially after his realisation that this man could very well just accept any other job had it been thrown his way and such a life would be terribly sad to think about, let alone live. “Don’t you worry at all. I’ll help you, not just now but to get you back on your feet. To hear you say all of those earlier makes me cringe at the thought that some ill-intentioned folks would do harm upon you!” “He’s not an infant,” Sayael suddenly said as he seemed to have moved in between Keiran and Ayn, trying to creating some distance between them while still glaring at the white-haired man. “And I am his husband. If you even think of trying to–“ “Hold it! Hold it!” Kieran quickly interrupted and grabbed Sayael by the mouth, “How many times did I tell you not to say that in public? Geez. I keep telling you. Your culture is different from ours so please be careful.” “But it’s true. You are betrothed to me.” “Shut up!” Kieran quickly took off his beanie and pushed it at the other’s mouth before turning to face Ayn. “Never mind what he said. It’s a very complex situation, you see, but you need not to worry about that. So, where was I…. oh right! It’s a simple task but the more the merrier, especially when it involves searching ten hectares of forest land. In any case, I’ll be very grateful for your help and if you want, I can offer a portion of the prize. It’s a simple search, really, but first we’ll have to find the client in the forest.” He then shot a glance at Sayael who took the liberty of replacing the beanie back on Keiran’s head before glaring back at Ayn. “He’ll be part of the mission so don’t go looking for fights.” And so, as they would head towards the forest entrance, he couldn’t help but ask Ayn, “You do know about missions, right? I can sense you have magic about you so perhaps you’re already part of a guild. Not a dark guild, I hope.” |

“Aynariun” He admitted giving his full first name instead of the earlier to pronounce nick name he told to Fioreans to they didn’t spend too much time trying to sit it in different accents, an event that had happened a fair few times when he arrived in this country. “I don’t see many people this far away from home.” Ayn said, wondering what motives this guy had for traveling the Fiore, true it was a capital of magic in some sense but at the same time it was so far away from the kingdom they were both from that it wasn’t worth coming here unless you were looking for something in particular or trying to escape something, but it wasn’t his place to ask right now. His main concern was working for money and food. If he could coax some details later on in the trip after procuring a good amount of both of his goals then it was a win-win. The companion of this guy was a little strange so to say, but then again Ayn knew that he wasn’t exactly a cookie-cutter sort of person so thought it best not to play on any jealousies that could come up and fly under the radar, unless of course he could come across some sort of win-win-win scenario where he had food and money, with information why this other person was in Fiore and could have some fun messing with this husband. But having a losing hand he’d play it safe for now. “I know of guilds and missions but I’m not a member of any. I only arrived in this country about maybe a few weeks or a month ago if that.” The half fox admitted; blinking blankly at the thought of what these things would entail. “I’m at a loss on the aims of missions; is it different from task to task? All I know is that it can be used as a source of income for mages in this country.” He’d not really thought about guilds, the idea was nice in concept but having to tie himself down to one location in particular especially when he’d seen so little of this land wasn’t something that interested him too much, in fact he’d prefer to stay away from those sorts of establishments for now. The questioning look was clearly seen on the white haired teen’s face as he wondered if he’d be best finding some other employment and skirting clear of these guilds or if he should just play the hand he had and roll with it. In thought for some time Ayn finally went with it, thinking it best to see where this adventure would take him, the fact his interest was piqued already helped sway the tides in favour of helping this fellow Pergrandian. “Well what exactly do you need me to do on this guild mission? I hope I don’t have to up and join all of a sudden.” It was his only condition; he was fine with working with the two strange guys as long as there were no strings attached afterwards, if that was alright then it was time to set off to wherever and to stop hanging around the side of the road. Daylight wouldn’t last for ever and the sooner they started, the sooner he got paid. |

“Oh? I haven’t been here that long myself. Oh wait… I have been here for months now so I’m supposed to be your senior in that respect, but trust me, I still feel like I’ve just gotten off the train just yesterday sometimes. The people and the customs are just different from what I’m used to,” Keiran told the other before glancing towards Sayael’s direction. “Especially that bird over there. I swear, Fiore has so many places that customs sprouts as fast like mushrooms at every corner. But that doesn’t really mean it’s all that bad. It’s just… how would you say it? Ah, just a bit culture shocking at times.” As they would proceed towards the entrance of the forest, he added, “Oh and don’t worry. I was merely wondering if I would have to ask for help from a dark guild mage. It’s fairly alright if you don’t want to join any guild. Makes sense for one who prefers to be free to roam about as they please. Though I should tell you, there are also certain advantages from being part of a guild. For one, you won’t find it difficult to pay for your travel expenses, and two, you are likely to have more explorations and journeys around the kingdom than you would have imagined you would have if you would be on your own. Why? Because each guild has its purpose and their mages would go around the world in search to help that aim… or simply just hang-out in the guild hall, get some great food and be with good company. “That said, my guild in particular, Lamia Scale, is more into research and exploration, which is also my purpose in life. So I suppose you could say I’m actually at the right place and doing the right things. Though at the moment you might think looking for a lost item might be mediocre, but this particular item has rumors of its magical prowess.” And just a few walks into the forest itself, they would finally come in contact with the client. The man was seemingly tall, a researcher by the way he looks, old and wizened and seemingly irate already. Kieran quickly stepped forward to greet the man, only to be interrupted mid-speech. “You’re late,” said the old man who looked at Keiran and the rest of the party with skeptical eyes, “And this are your companions, I take it? Would it really be alright to have asked for your services?” “Apologies for the tardiness. I’m Keiran Yuf Lassiter from Lamia Scale. It wasn’t my intention to be late, but I assure you we will find the item,” replied Keiran, trying to be as polite as possible. Sayael could be heard grumbling already. “Hmmm? Very well. I am called simply Baristan. Here is the image of the item in question,” said the old man as he showed the group a folded paper with a rough sketch of the so-called Treasure of Icweiner, “As you can see, it is a mysterious elongated case made of brass. The contents are said to be important to our culture and finding it quickly would help advance our knowledge of the ancient civilization.” “It looks roughly the length of a full adult. It’s rather big, but if it’s lost in this forest, it might be hidden quite well.” “Which is why I supposed bringing along this many helpers may have been a wise decision. We can split into two groups. You will come with me and your other friends can make for another.” “What? No. I am destined to be with–“ “No, that is perfectly fine!” Kieran stomped his foot on the bird-man’s forcing him to shut up. “After all, I am the mage who accepted the request and sent by the guild. It would only be proper to deal with the client personally. Sayael and Ayn will also profit from each other’s abilities since I have strong faith in their tracking… at least, Sayael’s.” “But!” “No, buts. Besides, you pride yourself with tracking so put it to good use. The sooner we find it, the faster we can get back together.” And with that, the bird-man couldn’t help but to agree before turning to glare at Ayn and scoff before looking away. There was obviously something that annoyed Sayael but for the sake of this mission, he would gladly do his part. “Come on, boy. We’ll be having a head-start.” Edited by Sinjin, Sep 9 2015, 01:06 AM.

Ayn simply nodded at the information he was being given; he wasn’t too interested in the guild system currently, it seemed counter intuitive to his current position. If he wanted to be lumped together with other weird people and do magic to keep himself above board, then there were plenty of options back in his home country. “Sure.” He shrugged at, trying not to be too impolite but not caring either way. The country had so many cultural beliefs made it seem like the Fioreians just couldn’t make up their mind on what to choose; the places he’d seen so far were a port which was very much plain in terms of architecture, besides the lack of frost proofing, the port was similar to the one he had left to travel here just with a different language being spoken and of course the city which he saw just as rich people showing off their wealth in the most visual of fashions. “It sure is different.” The half fox mumbled, wishing it had been a colder climate to warrant pulling on a coat and hiding his bored expression behind the collar, but not everything could go his way. They were still a few questions plaguing his mind as they continued onwards through the forest to whatever destination they were headed too, he’d been too distracted by his own inner monologue to note down too many details but just continued to follow on the heels of his meal ticket. But with enough room between the pair to aggravate the other dark haired one, he seemed to have some sort of infatuation with pinky and Ayn for one didn’t like the idea of placing himself dead set in a lovers quarrel. “Is it always warm around here? Or does it cool down later in the year?” slipped out from his mouth, curious to if he’d have to start saving for some warmer clothing; but once again he was too bored to care either way. In fact he almost bumped into the back of one of the pair as they stopped to talk to who he quickly realised was their employer. Once again the half fox took in a minimal amount of information but looked a lot more attentive this time; the fact was they were meeting the person who’d give the money to the person who was going to hopefully give him money, it was a dubious time to mess around and even his more wild side felt like keeping in line for the time being with the threat of hunger imminent if they didn’t play ball. “Whatever.” Ayn said, looking at the weirdest of the pair as it seemed like they’d be pairing up for a while, he’d never really had to work in any sort of small unit team before. And even when he did, he was always spouting commands which usually lead to him being kicked out. “So should we just start off in a random direction and take it from there?” Ayn asked, already making his way to the far side of the path to go off into the forest, it they got lost then they could use this guy’s apparent good tracking skills to find their way back but finding something like that would take more luck than it would skill. |

“Any path is better than nothing. I want this over with quickly,” said Sayael as he would approach Ayn and the two would continue down the path they chose. He would only cast a glance back to see Keiran seemingly talking to the employer a little more, which sort of got an irritated response from, a soft growl before he turned to look ahead and move past the man. Well, if you call him that. “He may think you’re human but I could very well tell you’re not as ordinary as you look. What? Ashamed to show your tail? If you have the bloodline of creatures more nobler than humans, you ought to flaunt it, not hide it.” He added as he flapped his wings for a bit to indicate his own pride of his own pair of noble wings. It was always strange for him to see people of all sorts, especially the ones with the rare share of other bloodlines such as his, to want to hide their heritage. Traitors. In any case, they would soon continue down into what seemed to be like a darker and more narrow path, where trees were larger and thicker and the canopy of leaves blocked out the sun. It would be a good place to hide anything, really, but it would be too much of a coincidence to truly find the treasure so easily like that. “Keep your eyes open for anything remarkable. Forests tend to be dull unless they’re inhabited by unknown creatures.” Meanwhile, Keiran and Baristan went over to the map of the forest and crossed out the section where Sayael and Ayn were seemingly going to search at. That would save them the time of going in circles and unknowingly following their tracks. So it was to the west for them. “I do hope you’re all prepared for the worst when you took this mission. I heard that the reason why this treasure had long evaded our grasp was because of a certain obstacle. I couldn’t get much information on what that obstacle was, but I believe it was sentient,” said Baristan as he folded the map and kept it in his pouch before they proceeded to the path. “You mean there’s a creature of some sort that guarding it with it’s very life? Like a dragon?” asked Keiran, half excited and half cautious. “I mean, aren’t those just fairy tales? Well, considering how Fiore is full of fairy tales and they have become reality now with magic and all that, but dragons? I know they love treasures but I don’t think one would be hiding with the treasure in this forest without anyone in the town knowing about it.” “No, not dragons. Something far more dangerous, I believe.” “And what’s that?” “Well, I, for one, believe that the most dangerous creature in the entire world, are humans.” “Hmmm… makes sense. In that case, I’ll just have to go kick his ass.” |

“I’m not ashamed of my bloodline.” Ayn said in a condescending tone, this guy knew little of the matter as did Ayn to say the least but still he disliked people pushing ideals onto him simply because of the tails floating softly behind him. Usually it was berating him about how he was different or a menace, which in part did have something to do with his own behaviour around other people but still even if he was praising him saying he was better than the common a run human, still he didn’t like people dictating their actions around his because of this hereditary hiccup. “Lets just find whatever then I can get going.” Ayn coughed at, looking around the nervous trees to see if there was any semblance of something they would be searching for but unfortunately he was running blank of that front. As the path grew darker, Ayn found himself losing more and more interest in what was actually going on, he watched his impromptu partner scavenge his eye line for any clues while the half-fox strolled behind lazily simply waiting for this whole thing to come to a nice roundabout end. “I doubt there are going to be too many dangerous creatures so close to a city.” Ayn said to the bird brain, wondering what his reaction would be if he kept of pushing and trying to find a nerve. The sense of hunger the only thing rooting him to his human side, so he didn’t send himself off of the handle and go too far. Still they went on, out of sheer boredom, Ayn started to help once more, but all he could seem to see in the din was sticks, trees and moss. The occasional rabbit hopping by in the corner of his vision caused him to twist his head slightly, once even causing the ghostly tails behind him to perk up slightly, but generally everything was quiet and still besides the chirping of the birds in the distance. “Maybe you can ask an owl or something?” Ayn quivered, pushing a button once again but also letting his curiosity run wild, wondering if the bird brain could live up to Ayn’s nickname for him and tweet away with the pigeons and jays. “If not then fly up and see if you can find anything shiny.” |
