Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Embodiment of Pandemonium/Aspect of Sacrifice
Zeph had to think on it, without triggering any pain. The block was not relevant to the boy, nor anything to do with Earthland in general. No, it had to have been set up back on Incendia. His first memory was eyes opening on the burning plains, but what if that was wrong. "It must be linked to my creation," Briefly touching his temple with his free hand, Zeph continued, "I am able to summon a perfect picture of my creator, Lord Zeref, however, unlike other demons of my world, I have not ever met him before. It was upon this realization that I hit the block, as the image does not match with my memories. I am unsure if my original awakening was truly my first breath of the world, or if perhaps something, or someone, place a block within my mind in order to keep me for remembering something." Or maybe he, himself, as trying to keep something a secret.

It was rather discerning for him, as he had not ever realized this block before. It was understandable that, while within Incendia, he would not realize since he was engaged in almost constant battle, but since coming to Earthland... Zeph had always been a very tactical individual, and since becoming human-ish, he had turned that inward on himself, trying to analyze who he wanted to be. Why was it he never questioned any of these memories, or knowledge that had no origin? Was it possible that whatever that had been done to him was responsible for him not discovering the block as well.

Pulling out of his thoughts, Zeph's head turned, very slightly. It took a moment, but he finally heard it. There was a very low, but distinct echoing of footsteps quite a distances behind them. Had these people just rushed them, Zeph would not have had time to notice that there was two much of an echo for it to have only been the sound of himself, and Varriden's feet. Glancing to his companion, Zeph's hand went down to the grip of his hidden blade. As casually as possible, he twisted it, giving an audible click as it unlocked, giving him the ability to pull it free at any moment. The longer they walked, the further they got from any area that may have citizen around, as they were slowly closing on the outskirts. He had to figure that once they were on the fringes, the people would confront them, hopefully, revealing their true intentions at the same time. Bringing his hand up, Zeph pointed at his chest, trying to indicate to Varriden that there was someone behind them, before holding up three fingers to indicate the number of pursuers.

Zeph seemed to think on the question for a moment before answering, and came to the same conclusion that Varriden himself had arrived at - that the mental block was something placed upon Zeph's creation. It was possible that Varriden's other two theories could have been the culprit, but given that he asked them outright, and no response from Zeph, it meant the block hadn't stirred in his mind, it was likely that neither were the case, as the block, thus far, seemed to respond mostly when something that it was trying to block was mentioned, so odds were that the block itself was on a similar, if less vital level from the block's point of view.

Zeph explained how his block was functioning, as far as he knew - he knew his creator's face, but at the same time, knew that he'd never actually met him face-to-face, and thus the cause of the block's uprising a few moments ago. "Which means it's linked to your memories in some way, and rose defensively when you realized that part of your memories didn't match up with your own experiences," Varriden mused, rubbing his chin with one hand. "There's a faint possibility that the boy you're possessing saw him, and that's a lingering memory from his spirit, but given the age you implied the boy to possess when you merged with him, I find that rather unlikely to an extreme. If I had to guess, I'd say it's either one of two things - either the block is suppressing the knowledge of how or under what circumstances you met your creator, or two, you truly did never meet him, but someone planned the memory of his image in your head, and the realization you had caused a clash of your brain's memory against the 'fake' memory of you seeing his face."

During a pause in the conversation, they happened to hear a noise, a fair distance behind them, but getting slowly louder - footsteps, and the steps of multiple people who were in some kind of hurry. Zeph gestured behind him with three fingers raised before drawing his weapon just enough so it would be easy to wield on a moment's notice later. Varriden quietly nodded and would have reached over his shoulder to grab the hilt of his greatsword, but he lacked a way to do so that wouldn't tip off their pursuers, so he let it be for now. He'd just have to move fast if the ones behind them chose to attack.

As silence enveloped them, Zeph began to focus his mind. In order to assure that he didn't lose control, creating balance during this time before the fighting was a good idea. It only took a moment to create the void within his mind, causing his left eye to shift, the black pentagram taking it's place upon his burnt-orange iris. Thankfully, he was standing on Varriden's left side, so the man would not be able to spot the change for now. He had no doubt, however, that the Archive Mage would soon see it, and probe towards the reason of it's appearance.

Very slightly, Zeph slowed his pace, this allowing their soon to be attackers to gain on them more quickly. Time seemed to drag on as he felt his demon blood begin to boil in anticipation of bloodshed, the lust for destruction growing with each step they took. Zeph was, by no means, a bad man, but he was not a good one either. He only killed out of necessity, but when he did so, it was a bit overboard. His master was teaching him ways, in which, he could curb his destructive tendencies, but there was only so much he could do, as he was not well versed in the impulses that ravaged the mind of an Incendian Demon. So what came next, was of surprise to him.

Once the footsteps were close enough, Zeph knew it was time to attack. Stopping in mid-step, he rotated his body on his heel, pulling his sword free and swinging it all in a single motion. There was no hesitation in his action, no hint of resistance against pulling his weapon free. There was only the overflowing murderous intent, focused on those that would stalk them as if they were prey. So imagine his shock when his sword cut through nothing, but empty air. It would seem that those following them had noticed his sudden stop, and had to, stopped themselves. This had kept Zeph from striking one of their heads' from their shoulders. This also gave Zeph a good moment to actually view those that had been following them. Three, very average, extremely drunk, men. The look of fear was clear in their eyes now, as they had not realized that the two they had been following were armed.

"We're sorry!" One yelled.

"We th... thought we 'ould rough 'a up for some cash," The second look as though he was on the verge of pissing himself, words slurring so badly that his worlds were barely understandable. The third man didn't say a thing, having fallen to the ground, whimper like a wounded pup, and having actually wet himself. The three were quite the pitiful sight, which caused Zeph to blink in surprise. He had been so sure that these three had been a real threat to them, the thought that they were just simpletons too drunk to think straight hadn't even occurred to him. Flipping the blade around in his hand, Zeph sheathed it within the parasol and locking it into place, before looking to Varriden as to what they should do with the three.

Varriden spared a glance at Zeph as the ones behind them got closer, to the point where they'd have to move first if they wanted to have the first attack - Zeph had an unusual stare, but Varriden passed it off as mentally preparing himself for the upcoming fight, not able to see the other eye just yet.

When the followers got close enough, Varriden whirled, turning 180 degrees as he reached a hand up over his shoulder to grasp the hilt of the greatsword slung across his back, prepared to draw it if need be. Zeph seemed to be prepared to do far more than that, as he whipped back with the blade he'd secretly drawn a moment ago and sliced through the space behind him, which was thankfully empty of attackers, as it would have seriously hurt anyone hit by it, if not decapitated them outright.

The ones following them didn't seem to expect the attack, either, as they were already a short distance back - good for them, as otherwise one of them would have felt the bite of Zeph's sword. They also seemed to be currently questioning the wisdom of their attempted stalking of the two walking down the alley, though when they said they didn't know the two of them were armed, Varriden had to wonder if they thought the greatsword on his back was simply for decoration, as it was in plain view - perhaps in their drunken state, they couldn't bother to think that far ahead, Varriden thought.

As Zeph sheathed the blade back into the parasol he'd hidden it in - Varriden noting that he was right about why it seemed unusually heavy earlier when he'd held it for a moment - he said, "Given your intoxicated state, I'll give you a pass for attempting something foolish like that - on the condition that you leave now and don't bother us again, are we clear?" Varriden turned to Zeph, intending to say something about moving along or about the trio, but quickly forgot what he was originally going to say when he spotted Zeph's eye. "Er, what's up with your eye?" Varriden said.

It seems that deferring to Varriden's judgement on their current situation had been a wise move on Zeph's part. He seemed to have decided to let the three go, despite their, originally, ill intent aimed at them. Though Zeph would have simply killed them for merely thinking of trying to harm them, this was far better. No violence, and it did not draw more attention to them. In the end it was a good move. The three nodded their heads feverishly in response to Varriden's conditions. Without any hesitation, they tripped over themselves, and each other, as they tried to run like their lives depended on it. Of course, being as drunk as they were, they could barely do so without stumbling about.

As Zeph watched them running off, Varriden turned to speak, but seemed to pause, before putting forth a very obvious inquiry, "Er, what's up with your eye?" Reaching up, Zeph lightly touched right beneath his left eye, as if to signify that this was the eye that he had asked about. This is merely a physical effect of my efforts to maintain a balance between the new mortal mind, and my lingering demonic instincts. To the right, I remain mortal, to the left, I restrain my lineage. This is also proof that I cannot ever be human. The longer I live, the less human this body becomes," as he finished, Zeph dropped his hand, turning his gaze back towards the direction the three drunks had scrambled.

It was then, that the hairs along his arms and the back of his neck raised on end. A chill ran through his body. Cautiously, Zeph turned his head to look back the way that they had originally been walking towards. In the dark stood a exceedingly large figure. The lack of light made it quite difficult to describe, but it stood at least seven feet tall, maybe eight. It was humanoid in appearance, but it's muscle seem quite exaggerated, bulging withe every breath it took. Large ham-like fists slowly opened and closed at it leered at the two of them. How could something that large have gotten so close without either of them noticing it?! It's very presences should have set off red flag long before it got close, and Zeph's hearing should have picked it's movements up. "Varriden," Zeph was very short, saying his name to ensure that his attention was brought to the massive creature staring them down. Was this the thing that they had felt watching them, instead of it being the three idiots from before?

Varriden was caught off-guard by the appearance of Zeph's eye - while they had been a sort of burnt-orange color when he'd first met him a few minutes prior in the the nearby inn, one of them was now overlaid with a pentagram that was a deep purple color, and glowing rather brightly. Is that the kind of vibe people get when they see the Decipher runes glowing over my own eyes? Varriden thought for a moment. Maybe I should adjust it slightly, if so, as that could be alarming to some people.

As the aforementioned trio scrambled to get away from the mage duo, Zeph explained that the appearance of his left eye, in its current state, was a physical manifestation of his struggle to balance his mortal body with his demonic nature, and that it seemed that he was becoming more and more of a demon, physically, as the years passed. "Probably a bit of a blesssing, really," Varriden noted more casually, the eye explained. "I mean, really, think about it - the soul of a mortal infant against that of a fully-fledged demon? Small wonder that your demonic side would slowly begin to encroach on your mortal core. If anything, I'd say it's a bit surprising that an eye is all that's shifted back to it's original state thus far," Varriden added, glancing at the eye. "Still, a good thing for you - perhaps you won't be able to pass as a human in about a decade or so without some sort of disguise, but if your demonic nature had immediately taken over when you'd possessed that body in the first place, the sudden metamorphosis might have ripped that form apart just as the gate did your previous one, but this time, you would have had no parallel entity to be drawn to. I'd say you lucked out."

Varriden noted the creature's presence around the same time Zeph did, but as a shadow cast over the two of them. Varriden slowly turned to see the hulking creature staring them down. Were we so focused on those drunken fools that we failed to hear it approach? Varriden thought. No, that can't be it, it should have made some kind of noise on the approach, being that size. It must have some ability. "Yeah, I know," Varriden said to Zeph. To the creature, Varriden said. "Hello there, I don't believe we've met. Can we help you with something?"

Zeph wasn't sure if trying to talk to the creature was a good idea, though the thing's response did not tell them either way. After Varriden spoke, the creature bared it's teeth at them, showing them the thing's jagged teeth. If it tried to take a bit out of them, it would probably tear out enough to kill them instantly. After a moment of silence, the creature began to slowly walk forward, as it did, Zeph realized that he couldn't hear it's footsteps, not change in anything around them. It was as if the creature didn't exist, and thus, wasn't affect the world around it, however that would be wrong. It was obviously there, they could see it, and hear the thing breathing. With every step it took, Zeph's body became increasingly tense, heart racing, breaths became short and shallow.

It did not take long before it was right before them, looming over them like a great tower. Now that it was close, it was clear, the thing was covered in a thick black fur, it's face was flat, like a human's, not at all animalistic aside from it's deep red eyes and fang like teeth. It's ears were narrow, angled back, it's fingers were tipped with claws. Zeph, for a moment, thought it might be some kind of werewolf, but it lacked any wolf specific characteristics. This thing was, obviously, beastly, but it wasn't reacting like an animal. There was no rush, or sense of blood-lust coming from it. Despite this, Zeph couldn't bring himself to move, it was like he was being held in places by hundreds of wires.

After a moment, Zeph was able to move, which resulted in his hand flashing to the handle of his blade, but he never got the chance to pull it out. The moment his fingers touched the wood, the beasts hand swooped over and collided with Zeph's body, throwing him through the air and into a wall. Pain shot through him, wiping his mind of all thought. His body went limp as he collapsed on the ground, he didn't even know where his parasol had gone, as he lost it in mid-air. After clubbing Zeph, the beast turned to stare down at Varriden, as if waiting to see if he tried something like Zeph had.

Varriden asked it a question, knowing there was a small chance that any attention sent the creature's way, hostile or not, might end up provoking it, but if it was going to leap at them for any kind of reaction, no reason that they shouldn't at least try to talk to the thing first - given it's bulk, the odds of it being sent their way to have a friendly little chat with them were slim to none, but there was always a chance, however minor.

Unfortunately, Varriden's 'hostility upon reaction' suspicion was proved correct as the beast only answered by baring it's fangs at the duo and letting out a growl. Definitely a carnivore, Varriden noted, looking at the jagged molars. So if we lose, we don't just get beaten up, we get eaten, potentially. Isn't that a lovely thought.

The thing slowly approached, which was in line with it being a beast of sorts - the whole 'stalk, then strike' approach was a standard for larger carnivorious beasts, usually those in the Felidae Family of Taxonomy, which was full of beasts like panthers, cheetahs, and the like. Only this thing didn't have a beast-like face - no snout, no whiskers, no oddly-shaped nose, only it's eyes and fangs to hint at it's beast-like existence in the face area alone.

Zeph moved first, but not by much, as the second Zeph went for his blade, the beast lashed out with one clawed hand, slapping Zeph aside as one might a housefly, Zeph slapping against the wall hard enough to drive the wind from him as he dropped to the ground before his umbrella did, which rolled to a stop partway between Zeph and the beast. Then the beast turned its eyes on Varriden, who merely gazed back up at it, not going for his greatsword, as clearly any sudden moves caused it to lash out. "As I said, can I help you with something?" Varriden said casually, as if he hadn't just watched his friend get slapped against the wall. I might not be able to out-muscle this thing, but if I can perplex it enough for it not to attack, I can help Zeph after it leaves, as long as Zeph doesn't provoke it further, Varriden thought.

Ok, so that was a bad idea.

That single thought was all that Zeph could muster as his eyes slowly began to refocus. It took him a moment to realize where it was that he was at. The cold ground was quite the feeling of relief, as his whole body felt like one massive bruise. It was quite obvious that Varriden had learned from his own mistake, as he made no move for his weapon. The beast was strong, the was obvious, and quick, it's reaction time was superb. These were not good signs, though Zeph was sure that they could probably hold their own for awhile, he was not sure if they had the required strength to fend it off for very long.

Slowly, he pushed himself up to a sitting position as Varriden posed his question for the creature once again, though Zeph was pretty sure it hadn't come down here just to have a little chat with them. Of course, weirder things had happened before. He glanced at his parasol, it was too far out for him to reach it without drawing attention, but that didn't occupy his mind for very long. His head slowly turned as he heard the creature speak to Varriden, "Yes." That single word was more than enough to determine this things identity, and Zeph was sure that Varriden would pick up on it just as quick. The beast was Big Pops, there was no mistaking his voice. He had probably slipped out of the inn a few moments after they had, as to not let them pick up on the fact that he was following. The three drunks had been the perfect decoy as well.

Zeph was sure that Varriden was going to ask another question, probably to have Big Pops elaborate on what his intentions were, but it was quickly apparent that it was not necessary. This time, it was his turn to react. The beast's claw began to swing back before coming forward at Varriden, but Zeph raised his hand and snapped his fingers, using Focused Amplify. Though the sonic beam was enough to knock the creature backwards, it was not enough to debilitate him. Big Pops would be back on his feet soon, but this would give Varriden time to make his move. For a moment, Zeph had completely forgotten he could use magic.

As Varriden posed his question once again, he noted Zeph eyeing his parasol that he'd lost in his fall, and Varriden silently prayed that Zeph wasn't foolish enough to try and grab for it after what had just happened to him when he'd tried that but a moment prior.

Surprisingly, though, when Varriden asked his question again, the beast answered. More surprisingly was that they both knew the voice, though Zeph seemed to realize who it was a moment or two before Varriden did, due to his familiarity with the true identity of the creature - Big Pops, the barkeeper back at the tavern they had been in moments ago. And looking mighty different than he had when they last saw him. No pun intended.

I pegged him as non-human from the beginning, Varriden thought, but I have to admit that this isn't what I envisioned as his true form. "Well then, how might we assist you?" Varriden asked, his tone still calm. "I realize we left in a bit of a hurry, but I'm fairly sure I recall leaving payment for the drinks on the counter before we left. Unless one of those drunks who pursued us snatched it off the counter before you had a chance to pick it up, that is." Varriden mused. Any further jests or comments were brushed aside as the beast swung a claw back, intending to strike at Varriden as it had at Zeph, but before it could hit Varriden, a beam of sorts shot out and hit the beast, making it stumble backward - Varriden quickly looked over at Zeph, who had fired the beam. Seems like he's learned a new trick or two since we last met, Varriden thought, Decipher already active and noting the technique's effect and casting.

With the beast staggered, now would be a good time for Varriden to launch an attack of his own. Normally, he might use something like Fault Lines to trip the beast up, but given its instant attack on them both, it had clearly been prepared to fight them from the get-go. So Varriden summoned two Ravagers, constructs of fire and iron, floating in the air before him, who leapt at Big Pops with blades drawn, intending to strike the beastman.
