No sooner had Cleia stepped through the door, that a mass of about four or five figures suddenly detached itself from the crowd and charged the doorway through which she had entered. Initially, she thought that the dark guild representative who was sent to silence the playwright was already making their move, and she whirled round, though she did not yet activate her runes. The tall, lean man also noticed, and quickly threw himself between the doorway and the chargers... ... who only turned out to be a bunch of fans, seeking autographs. The tall man somehow did a very good job of using his body to block the entrance, and managed to keep himself from being knocked over. Perhaps his build belied his strength, or something else augmented his resistance, but he would not sway. Of course, as expected, on seeing they could not get through, the fans started a racket. "We know he's up there! Stop hiding him to yourself and let him come out," one of them yelled. Another pleaded, "Come on, I need Ben's signature on my copy of 'The Passing of Sir Mauldin'." The tall lean man, yet unmoving, simply said, with a stoic expression: "Autographs by nine, after the presentation. I'm sorry, but you'll just have to wait, if you're so desperate." As they yelled various things, ranging from apartheid to gender discrimination, he turned his head slightly and said to Cleia: "Be a dear, and shut the door behind me. My arms are... full, as you can see." Nodding in reply, Cleia closed the door and shook her head with a slight smile. Turning around, she found herself facing a small flight of stairs, which she ascended. Eventually, she found herself in a corridor that branched into various rooms. A servant standing by gestured to her and said, "You're here for the bodyguard mission?" Cleia nodded and showed him the scroll. He led her through a door and into a room that had a wide balcony, which showed a stunning view of the city. The room itself was a maelstrom of papers and scripts, and about four servants feverishly tasked themselves tidying the room and arranging the scripts, while a middle-aged, slightly eccentric but rather intelligent looking man paced to and fro, rehearsing a speech to another servant, who scribbled down some things. As Cleia entered, he looked up and tilted his head, with an appraising frown. "Hmmm? I believe I said I did not wish to be disturbed by..." he paused suddenly. Hands behind his back, he approached Cleia, waving off the servant who tried to say something to him. "Slots for the grand presentation are closed, not surprisingly, though you might have been a better choice for the lady knight of..." he trailed off again, mumbling something about contrasting sizes and large armors, then he suddenly snapped upright. "You are here for the mission." It wasn't really a question, because he said it with certainty. As Cleia nodded, the man burst into laughter and extended a hand. "Benzio Luminoso, at your service. Or at least, that's what everyone calls me. Ben is fine by me, though. Pardon my mannerisms; people say they're strange." "Cleia. Pleased to meet you," she said with a grimace, as the man shook her hand a little too heartily. |

Benzio Luminoso. That was their target. While Vector was blind-sided by the theater and the fact he was always one to go off topic, he kept his eyes peeled for anything. There was a major commotion going on near the back. A famous actor of some kind hogging the attention, especially of the women of the crowd. It was almost envious for Suijin, as he loved being the center of attention. But till they found their target, he couldn't do much. He had to wait till there was an opening he was out in the open. However, something did stick out to him. The woman he had spotted a while ago. She was there among that crowd. At first his interest in her was purely personal, as well as Vector's-- but out of all the crazy fans, she was the only one to actually be let in. This interested Suijin. She had access into it. "Om-nom-nom!" Vector moshed on his popcorn, pouring the last of the bag into his mouth and chewing the rest easily. The crocodile certainy had a big mouth in every sense of the word. "So, how are we going to find that guy. We got a picture of him, but still, if he is being guarded-- he could be in disguise or worse hidden somewhere we can't find him. Not like you can sniff out someone you don't know." Vector did make a point. He was a great tracker with his dragon senses, but without something to smell, he was just shooting at the dark. But there was one thing. The girl he saw and how she got in. It suggested perhaps she was a VIP, and he could follow her scent-- in a non pervy way at least (Hint, yes he probably does :P ) "I think I got some insight here..." Suijin said as he decided to check out the adjacent building next door. "Wait here and keep a ear to the ground. Let me know if any big events is going on." Suijin said and began to make his way to the next building. As an ex-monk and trained in the ways of the shinobi, Suijin was pretty much stated as a ninja in most people's eyes, despite his knack of flare. Finding the nearby building and in the shadow of the building itself, he looked around. Once the coast was clear, he began to jump and scale up the edges and crannies of the building, hoping to find his target. Even if he found him, he wouldn't act just yet. Right now he had to learn all he could about the target and the protection he had. |

A very relieved Cleia dropped her hand to her side when Benzio finally let it go. He seemed a nice enough guy, warm and all, a little animated beyond normal, but more or less a good fellow. But he seemed oblivious of the danger he was in, even though he was aware that there was a mission. "You don't seem... apprehensive," Cleia stated simply, expecting him to explain the reason for his calmness. Maybe he had a fail-safe plan somewhere; something he could fall back on, if the mission went awry. "Me? Oh no, no! I am quite agitated. Very nervous. Even though I've staged many a play, I always get the butterflies in my stomach when one is about to kick off. Many times, I expect the feeling to pass with time and experience, but it doesn't. It can be annoying, sometimes, but I daresay I enjoy the thrill." Cleia blinked in surprise. Was this man serious? Here she was, on a mission that involved his life, and he was more concerned about his plays. Before she could respond, though, Benzio noticed her expression. "What? You expect me to hide and cower in a hole just because some dark guild has put a hit on my life? Sorry, child, but I'm not running from anybody... not at this stage I'm in. Besides, I doubt you should take this mission that seriously. It's a... how do you call it again... D-rank mission, no?" Cleia shook her head. His courage was commendable, but she knew what it was like to lose someone, and courage never brought the dead back. "This is a dark guild we're talking about, sir. What if they send someone stronger to silence you? We should take precautions..." Benzio gave Cleia an indulgent smile. "You know a lesson I learned from this life? Come, child." Beckoning Cleia to come over to the balcony, he pointed at the view of the entire city. "Call the concept 'defeatist' if you will, but the fact is that one cannot contend with a force greater than he. Once upon a time, demons overran Fiore, but Fiore drove them back, because Fiore was greater. Yet Rosalie Island fell, for the demons were greater there. I stand against the forces of darkness, with the hope that somehow, should luck be on my side, and your help, I shall be greater. However, if in this conquest, I fail to hold strength, I am not afraid to relinquish my life to nature. It is, after all, the order of things." |

Suijin had scaled the building where the playwrite was and to his surprise, he found a suitable spot to spy on. The BALCONY!. Sliding onto it and hopping past the railing, he leaned against the wall that was next to the windowed-door that overlooked it. He could hear people talking in it and lisened. It was a young woman and a man. Peeking over it briefly, he caught a glimpse. As fate it seemed chosed, the woman was in fact the same woman he had spotted on the way here. He knew something was off as she was let by. And as he listened carefully, more was revealed. She was on a mission to protect him-- which meant SHE was one of the light guild members. He listened with more interest. THe man was Benzio alright, and Suijin took this moment to get a good wiff of the guy. ANd boy did he stink of arrogance and vanity! The way he talked and the way he acted was so self-absorbed and almost delusional with reality. Reminds me of a certain reptile friend of mine, Suijin thought as he kept listening to their conversation. "ACHOOO!!" Vector sneezed. He wiped his nose with a hankey he had and looked around. Someone one was talking about him somewhere as he waited in the lobby. Suijin listened. They were aware he was targeted but the fact the playwrite was in fact a little off his rocker seemed to be a good sign for Suijin's mission. The real issue was now the woman sent to guard him. He didn't know what she was capable of but he was sure she would be interesting to find out about. He contained an inner smirk as he did like how she looked. Before he could think further on her, the man said to come to the balcony. Suijin's expression turned to surprise and knew he had to get gone fast! Moving away from the edge of the window, he quickly jumped to the banister of the balcony and jumped higher. He grabbed on to the stone engraving of the building and climbed up skillfully. Reaching the top of the balcony's awning, Suijin was pretty much on the roof now as he was now perched over them like a gargoyle. He kept quiet as he listened, and continued to recolonize the scent of both people of interest. He had the gall to talk on about the demon invasion-- which HE himself had aided in stopping as well, talking as if he did some great service. Furthermore he said he stood against dark forces and relinquish to nature. That in itself, almost made Suijin want to laugh out loud. This man was hilariously dumb from Suijin's point of view. He as an ex-monk of Minstrel, knew more than anyone how nature worked. And Chaos was the true order of nature. Rules, guidelines, even the definitions of 'light' and 'dark' mages was pointless in the light of nature. It was all on one law-- the law of the jungle. A law that Suijin valued above all others. He wanted to face nature and the darkness. Suijin grinned, knowing that the man would soon get his wish. He shadowed them for a bit longer but would soon duck behind the roof. He didn't need to keep an eye on them now. Now that he had their scent, he could find them now with ease... |

Cleia continued to listen to the playwright, not knowing whether to smack him upside the head for being an idiot, or actually commend his bravery. Such bravery, though, was going to get him killed, at the rate he was going. It was up to her to try to dissuade him from just accepting whatever came at him and making himself a sitting duck for an enemy whom he felt he had no chance against. "Let me tell you what life has taught me, sir, " Cleia said firmly. "I may be young, sure, but I do know these two things: One, with all due respect, sir, there is only a thin line between bravery and recklessness. Recklessness is actually like bravery alright, but you don't think your actions through. And that makes you a bit of an idiot, because you're gambling with your life. The second thing I've learned is that you only live life once, and once you die, it's over. All your aspirations, dreams, goals, promises... gone! You may say you have no regrets, but that's selfish if you think you'll just die off like that and no one will miss you, or mourn you, or regret that there were things they'd never been able to say to you. Unless you've got no one who loves you, in which case, you'd probably be no different from the dark mages you're speaking against." Benzio stared at her with surprise, then smiled and turned back to the city. "I lost almost everything to a dark guild: my wife, my daughter. I can't just not say anything against them." "And if they snuff you out today, how will that help anybody?" Cleia shot back. "If anything, your quest will be a failure." Silence reigned for a while on the balcony. Then Benzio chortled and said, "To think that in my quest for securing a safe life, I seem to have lost regard for mine. Life is rather ironic." "Tell me about it," Cleia agreed, resting her back against the balcony. "So, about keeping you alive..." Benzio inhaled deeply. "Yes, that. I suppose we have some planning to do, no? It's not likely the assassin would try to take me out here in my quarters, though that is still a possibility. I'll be most likely targeted in the evening, during the live presentation or after, during my speech. Come, Miss Cleia; I believe we have some plans to make." Neither of them was aware of the dark mage that skulked above them, on the roof. |

It was indeed the poor time to take on the target, especially his good looking bodyguard. Despite her words, Suijin understood well what it meant as well. He was not one of good-and-evil types. He was just there to do a job. Hell, he wasn't even going to kill him. But he was probably going to get a few good scares for his life to keep him from talking smack about the dark guilds again. His real concern was the bodyguard now. As a Fairy Tail mage, she probably was strong and he had no idea what kind of power this girl had. Still perhaps it was his physical attraction to the girl or the itch for a good fight, but he hoped to find out soon enough. He had scaled back down the building with ease and without being seen. He dropped down and landed in a crouch on the ground next to the theater again. This time, he went back to where Vector was. Making his way back, he casually entered the theater again, to find his green friend. He wasn't in the usual place, but a quick sniff in the air and he found him. On the far side of the room, he was waiting in a line iwth other people, holding a series of papers in his hands as he read them. "“Life ... is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,Signifying nothing.” " Vector spoke as he waited online. It was then that Suijin came up behind him and pulled his tail. Vector gave a gasp as he was pulled back by it and looked to find it was Suijin. "What are you doing?" he said, almost regretting asking as he knew his partner so well. Vector blinked at him with annoyance. "What? I figure since we are here, I try and audition for some of the plays! " For the love of the ocean... Grrr! Suijin continued to tug Vector away so they could talk. "HEY! Wait! Come on! MY DESTINY IS FOR THE STAAAAGE!!" Vector wailed as he was dragged away, causing a small scene for those nearby. After the moment passed, Suijin explained things to Vector. "I found the target. He is nearby and under the care of one mage. I think we can handle it, at least separate them for us to ... talk to the playwrite. " Suijin said to his crocodile companion. "And just how are we going to get at him hmm?" Vector asked. |

So, it was settled then. It was going to be more or less a long night, and as it was only a D-rank mission, the dark mage assassin was expected to be rather shoddy. Thus, his or her assassination attempt would be most likely noticed before any real damage could be done. And that was where Cleia came in. She would stay with the playwright, Benzio Luminoso, acting for all intents and purposes as a protege and attendant of sorts. The assassin would most likely strike when Benzio was giving his speech, or even before then, probably as he was making his way up to the podium. The assassin would likely have a sort of technique with which to avoid or break through theater security, but that would be when Cleia would have to rapidly launch her counterattack. With any luck, even though the mission looked like it wasn't supposed to be ranked so low as a 'D', it would stay within the confines of a D-ranked mission and be resolved quickly. After all the preparations had been made, and seeing that the playwright was relatively safe until eventide, Cleia took her leave, with the assurance that she would return well in advance before the plays began. She wasn't ready to stay in Benzio's quarters till then, and since boredom would probably reign until the action began, she felt it would be better for her to take a more leisurely stroll through the city. Walking down the stairs and squeezing past the lean butler (probably?) who still stood at the door through which she had gained access, Cleia walked through the small crowd and made her way out of the theater. She actually missed seeing Vector and Suijin by a fraction of a second, but as Providence would have it, a group of passersby blocked her view as she turned her head in their direction. Out in the open, and away from a crowd in an enclosed space, she felt much better. Now to find something to eat. She would probably try to learn more about Poinsettia, and do some other fun stuff, until the time was drawing closer to six o'clock in the evening, and then she would return to the theater, so as to stay in her position and watch this particular drama act itself out. Vector's question was a good one, but one Suijin knew how they were going to get at the guy. Finding him was no longer an issue. So would that girl guard there. He omitted telling Vector about the girl. Knowing him, he might try to see if he could distract him by 'charming' her. And the crocodile called HIM the pervy one. Still, shaking away the thoughts of the Fairy Tail mage for a moment, and focused on the plan. "The playwrite makes his debute after a series of performances tonight. We are going to make our move before that happens," Suijin said. With that, he knelt down to Vector and whispered his plan. After listening, Vector grew a crocodile-grin on his face. "Aha! I like it!" Vector said a bit too loudly, causing some people to look in his direction. "Seems my genius is rubbing off on you, eh?" Suijin felt the urge to muffle the crocodile for his loud-mouth, egotistic credit hogging. "Don't spoil the moment, crocodile, or I'll make you a stage prop!" he growled at him. So they got their plan. Now all that was needed was for them to wait till the shows began. And it would be easy for them to get in. All they had to do was join the audience. Easy enough, as they just would buy tickets or sneak in-- whichever was simpler. Either way, Suijin was confident this mission would be promising for them to accomplish. (Awaiting time skip) |

TiMeSkIp Cleia had a strained smiled on her face; though there was some ill-concealed form of malice behind it. "For the umpteenth plus fifth time, I am not putting on that thing. Look, Mr. Luminoso may look okay in his waistcoat and whatever else you call it, but I'm not cut out for all that gobbledygook." The servant looked like he was going to protest, but Cleia waved him off. "Your... dress thing will not let me do my job, okay? I'm not here to look pretty, and we all know that. So, thanks and go away, please!" The flustered servant looked to Benzio, who looked amused, but did nothing to convince Cleia to put on the dress. So, he resigned himself and left. Benzio clapped his hands once and looked around. "So, everything is set, and we're good to go. Come to think of it, our fashions so do contrast themselves. I would have taken you by the hand if you'd dressed a little more... formal." "Yeah, that's forty five percent why I didn't," she said with a shrug... The next few moments, were in Cleia's opinion, long and very horrible. Noisy fans, a few reporters, flashing cameras, and all what not associated with a public life. Cleia almost instantly hated everything around her. But she just bore with it, and held a special "Win a seat with Benzio" ticket in her hand. She was surprised to notice that some of the female fans were glaring at her with envy. "What rot! I almost feel like chucking a Jinrai at someone here..." Of course, it looked like she had won the raffle draw and got herself a ticket to watch the plays in Benzio's shadow, though her real reason for being here was to keep him alive. The job description, and the ticket never mentioned that she had to look thrilled being here, so she just looked how she felt. |

It was now early evening as people came into the theater and filled the seats. People were in a pleasant mood as they expected a series of performances for the classy and artistic. It was an interesting line up of upcoming performances, including dance, small plays and musical acts. It really was a nice gathering of people. Suijin and Vector were sitting a few rows further behind. It didn't matter to Suijin which seats they got. He was good from any point but he did have a good view of the spot where the target was. Four or so rows ahead of them. Vector sat beside him, munching on his third bag of popcorn and Suijin doing his best to ignore the crocodile's munching. He got a few looks from the more dressed up people, but he didn't care for their opinion on him. He wouldn't be sticking around long. The lights soon began to dim down and the first performance was beginning. Suijin sat back as the lights faded, his time coming soon enough as he inhaled. He smelled them clearly, and soon waited for the first performance. "Let's get ready, Vector," Suijin said as he sat up and got up. Vector had a mouth full of popcorn as he looked to his partner. "What? Can't I just finish my snack--WHAA!" Vector sqeaked as he was suddenly pulled out of his seat, his popcorn falling over as he was dragged. The first performance was indeed a simple dance performance. Many people in tights dressed up in elegant disguises with masks. All in sync they moved, trailing streamsers with their motions as magical lightning illuminated the stage. Clearly they valued their special effects as they performed. Many people, into that kind of thing anyway, had their eyes on the stage and display. Little suspecting Suijin's ingenious plan. As Vector was positioned close nearby, Suijin snuck up down the isle where he was before and got low. As he knelt close to his target a few rows behind, he focused his magic. Using hand signs, he weaved them into a series of shapes, ending with a 'tiger' sign of two hands together in unison shapes, his index and middle fingers up. "Water Dragon Mist Rain-- Kirisame..." he breathed out softly, and exhaled lightly. It took a minute or so, as the music played and the dancers danced, a strange mist was softly rolling in around the theater. It appeared to take root around the stage and spread outward magically. As eerie as it seemed, it was not unheard of for stage props and special effects. And as the mist spread across the theater, no one thought the wiser. "Ooooh! Wow special effects! They are going all out!" a few people said in excitement or similar variation, while the mist slowly enshrouded the stages. This no doubt wouldn't go unnoticed by Cleia that was for sure, but it served its purpose. As the target looked around, and probably compalined a bit -- that was his chance. "WHat the--" SNAG! Suijin jumped and grabbed the playwrite by the back of his shirt. With a simple tug and throw, he hauled the man right out of his seat and carried him off like a piece of luggage. As the man struggled and probably even shouted, Suijin got him out of the seats and to the isles where Vector was. "What are you--?! MRRPH!!" Vector was waiting with a series of ropes that he easily wove around the playwrite, tying him up while under the cover of the now much denser fog. Cleia would have trouble keeping up with them while nearly blinded by the thick fog, only allowing her a couple meters to see beyond. With that, Suijin, Vector and captive made their way to the far end of the theater, leaving on the side exit and making their way to the more secluded upstairs staging area. "Phase two complete!!" Vector cheered happily as he lugged the tied up captive on his little shoulders, being strong enough to drag him about as Suijin led them upstairs. |
