Her lips turning into a wry smile, she turned her head to look behind her, gazing back at the pink haired girl. She had a point, neither of them could take it easy whilst in the company of the spectral man. She had to trust her gut and something about how the man had acted suggested that the worst hadn't been in front of them, what the feeling was seemed to be beyond her knowledge though. "I'm not sure if this guy is what I felt earlier... it's hard to say. I don't think he means us any harm, physically that is. I think that joke book is going to leave some mental scars." As the two continued to follow the floating man through the house, they were rbought through room after room of grandeur ornaments, bookshelves and furniture. There was no doubt that this man had been wealthy during his time alive, but how he had acquired such fortune was heavy in her mind. Step after step, she began to ponder if he had inherited the money or if he had made his fortune in some fashion. What really hung in her head was what he did during his time alive. Was he some big wig politician, or was he something else? The thought of asking him popped into her head more often than once, but she decided against asking for now. The man was too far away from them and she'd prefer that he didn't start talking again. she instead marvelled at the raw talent that must have been needed to craft the elegant hous.e Finally, they had made their way towards the back of the house, the man gestured for the two to follow up a stair grand stair case, the top of which was missing. Sett frowned after making it to the top. "Time to see how far I can go then," she muttered, swinging her arms back and forth for a moment before launching herself forwards, entering into a quick tumble before arriving to her feet. With a quick cough to signal her triumph, she left a small smirk on her face. "I'd like to see you do that without flying," she challenged. The ghost rolled his eyes before continuing on. At long last, they reached their final destination. A door swung open to reveal.... nothing but an empty space. Sett looked about confused for a moment, turning her head about out through the door frame. "I'm not seeing it...." she muttered, a hand going towards her stomach as she realised something did feel off about this place. The ghost didn't dare pass the door frame. "Don't worry, it'll appear any moment now. I feel as if I should help shed a little light on the situation though." |

From Sett's words, there was the very present possibility that the ghost with his cryogenic humor and less than amiable temper was the major source of ill feelings that hung over the mansion and its vicinity like some miasma of foreboding. As it were, it became more likely that the ghost might not be the source of their concern. Vigilance would be most necessary in a case such as this. Although the idea of the joke book leaving mental scars was nothing short of hilarious. "I think I'm gonna steal that book," the pink-haired girl said with a mischievous chuckle as she rubbed her hands together. "I'll use it to punish people who get me pissed off. Give them a few chapters to read...." As the ghost floated ahead of them, with doors opening and closing of their own accord, Desire was not oblivious to the spectacular beauty of the mansion. Wherever had the man managed to get such affluence? Maybe inherited? Or maybe there was something shadier to his wealth, which made it impossible to allow him cross over to the over side... wherever that was. At least, not everyone that died remained around, floating about and reducing temperatures to unpleasant levels. The world would have been a ball of ice by now. They had gotten to the back of the mansion, where a staircase stood before them. Desire's thoughts about the riches in the house were momentarily halted as the group climbed the stairs leading up towards the top floor of the house. She had to raise an eyebrow at the gap before them. The ghost floated across without event, and Sett managed to make the jump across. Desire paused. "What if I can't cross?" The ghost's expression showed he hadn't too much sympathy for the girl. Se snorted. "Wicked fellow..." She made the jump safely as well, as the ghost mentioned something appearing. "Please, do shed some light; we're all ears." |

Sett's stomach felt off, butterflies fluttering about. She felt a little sickly standind across from the door. Taking a stance by the wall, she decided she was better off not in its direct alignment. One thing was for sure, if there was anything worse in this house than the ghost that floated before them, it had to be the space where a room had once bean. Much like the rest of the front of the house, there were no traces of it left. Sett had a creeping suspicion that this was where the blast had originated from. The ghost, now having grabbed the attention of the two girls, clasped his ghostly hands behind his back before turning his back towards them, turning to face the doorway. Sett rolled her eyes at the theatrics that the ghost was trying to pull. "Before my untimely demise, I was a scientist, having worked in some of the finest labs of Belladona. I was years ahead of anyone else within my field of research. I'm sure when you two are older, you'll hear more about my triumphs over the crystals. Regardless, having retired due to my elderly age, I continued on with little projects. One of which was to harness light and fire it off in a pinpoint beam of energy so I can place an assortment of runes onto objects. The lachrima backfired, blowing everything around me to shreds." Upon explaining, something crackled as a red dot appeared, small streaks of red electricity crackled around it as it grew in size until was as big as a melon. Hovering in the air it continued to let loose a few more flashes, some of them hitting against the walls below, blowing bricks apart. Settle took a step back. "I'm afraid that we're stuck with that. Lachrimas are very difficult to handle and one exploding should always be taken care of with utmost care." Sett licked her lips as they felt very very dry. "So wait, how are we meant to destroy it?" she asked, disbelief in her voice. Normally she was more headstrong than this, but with the red presence before her, she found herself altogether more light headed. "You destroy the leftovers, of course." |

Whatever it was that prevented the ghost from entering the adjacent room (or, on closer observation, the gaping empty space that had most likely been a room before something made it disappear) had to be serious. Just like the large hole which conspicuously displayed itself at the fore of the large mansion, the edges were relatively neat for an explosion, although there was a decent amount of charring at the extremes, and the occasional remains of bricks and mortar. Desire began to wonder whether the cause of the destruction had been some criminal activity. As the ghost ensured that the two girls were totally focused on him before turning to back them, Desire made a dramatic face at his turned back, opting to trail the exaggerated modus operandi which the ghost had been utilizing all along. She could as well have made the face in his presence, but, heck, it was all in the spirit of being dramatic. With the spook's explanation, Desire realized that she had imagined the problem in the mansion to be another ghost, a more malevolent one. Now, it seemed the problem was one that had been created by the master of the house, his last problem, it seemed. "Well, when you say 'blew everything around you to bits', you make it sound like the outcome was rather nice," the pink-haired girl stated dryly, although the ghost didn't bother to pay her heed. And soon she saw why. The strange glowing red thing that grew and threw bolts around that destroyed bricks and stuff, that was what they were supposed to deal with? Of course, it was more than obvious that this was the culprit behind the carving of the front of the mansion. With Sett's question and the ghost's reply, Desire grew annoyed. He sounded like it was so easy to do. Walk in the park. "You seem to have omitted the fact that you seem to have this uncanny knack for downplaying the seriousness of events. Are we just going to walk in there and swat the 'leftovers' with a cobweb broom? What are we even going to get from helping you, seeing that there's no apparent advantage in aiding you. Please don't give me that irritating 'goodness is a reward in itself' cliche. I've heard it too many times to get vexed by the sound of that sentence." She paused. Even though she was trying to act all tough and stuff, Desire knew she had to help the ghost somehow. "So, how brittle are the lachryma leftovers? And do they have a lag time before they go all poppity-pop again in our faces? One more thing, if the very first explosion blew the initial lachryma to smithereens, why don't we just leave all the leftovers to blow themselves as well to 'Smith and his hearty neighbors'?" |

The sound produced by the lacryma sounded as if something were sizzling. The noise it created it would cut off and star back up at random intervals. The small bolts of electricity seemed to only go so far though, the direction in which it sot out from though seemed to follow no type of consistency. Her arms crossing each other Sett, let out an angry sigh as she tried to figure out what exactly was going on. Her pink haired accomplice brought up a good point. Why should they do anything if it isn't doing anything altogether bad. The biggest problem was the bolts accidentely hitting one of the teenagers that had been here earlier. The ghost shimmered for a moment, contemplating the question before nodding. "I can't be positive on this, bu from what I've managed to ponder. These leftovers of the lachryma are now releasing waves of negative energy, the same that had been emitted before my untimely demise. I believe that another blast will happen soon and that it will more than likely result in an escalated explosion. How long this cycle will last, I ca only imagine." Sett gulped at the explanation, one of her hands tugging at the end of her ponytail. So their reward was not having to worry that they had left Magnolia to being destroyed by a random burst of negative energy. Set decided to straighten herself up, the problem now having escalated somewhat. "As far as destroing it goes, I believe that two strong hits will be needed to destroy the lachryma. They need to happen at the exact same time and on opposite sides of each other. Handy that their are two of you with physical bodies!" |

Well, that sounded absolutely lovely. If the ghost was correct, with every streak of energy coming out of the lachryma fragment, "negative energy" was building. And if the negative energy reached a particular level, a similar boom which dug out the front part of the dead dude's mansion would probably repeat itself. And make a bigger hole in the building. Even if it split the currently existing lachryma shard into smaller pieces, it seemed that did little to stop the build up of negative energy. At any rate, if luck was on their side, they would probably dig a well soon enough at this rate. Of course, the first thought that came to the half-demon girl's mind was to consider the situation as sagaciously as her wits would allow, then hit the road at full tilt, in an attempt to put as much space as possible between Magnolia and herself. However, there was that thing (what did people call it again, conscience?) that seemed to have become more active as the days ran by. Someone had mentioned to Desire a long time ago that such feelings ensured the shortening of the average person's lifespan, but.... With the ghost concluding his explanation, Desire cleared her throat, hoping it would sound more like a gesture of uncaring bravado, rather than what it actually was, to prevent her voice from sounding cracked when she spoke next. "Okay," she commented, sounding much more optimistic than she felt, "that sounds like our work's cut out for us, doesn't it? We'll just have to be careful when approaching it, to make sure it doesn't mine holes in us before we get close, and then we strike it on both sides, right?" Sounded so much easier than it looked. Well, it was a matter of "the sooner on started...", it seemed. But caution was the ingredient to an ensured extension of the girls' life spans. It seemed that the lachryma would throw energy about and do all its nasty red shinings, then take a breather, so to speak. Waiting until one such phase had just passed, and then turning to her rainbow-haired friend, Desire said, "come on, Sett. Let's get this behind us." Then before she had time to think her next action stupid, Desire slid into the large caved-out space, and began heading towards the maroon malignant menace of magnificent Magnolia. |

Sett slowly nodded at the final explanation. They both had to hit the floating red orb? At the same time?! How was she even going to get near it, let alone hit it with enough force to crack it. Sett and Desire would have to attack at the perfect time to pull it off and quite frankly, Sett didn't believe she had it in herself to pull such a stunt off. There was no margin for error. All of a sudden, she felt a wave of heat roll over her body as she grabbed at her collar, tugging at it ever so slightly. Despite the cold air that surrounded the ghost man, she felt a roll of sweat run down along her back. "Do you have anything you can give me? Obligatory magic power-up?" Sett tried, giving a hopeful smile to the ghostly figure. The floating apparition frowned at her before shaking his head. Her shoulders sagging, she figured as much. She turned hurriedly and chased after her pink haired companion, arriving at the explosion site. The red flashes of 'negative energy' had already died down, thankfully for the two adventurers, though as they made their way to it, the same dark feeling would overcome Sett. Shivering to herself, she reflexively clenched both her fists, winding up her shoulders. "Wait, I've got an idea. Stand back, and wait by the sides. I'll call you when I'm ready," Sett stated, hurrying away as she once again scaled the stairs after nodding to her friend. As she reached the top, she felt better once again. Taking a side door, she circled the building before arriving at one of the two side rooms which didn't have a wall left intact any more. Looking down over the red orb, she waved towards the pink haired girl. "I'll hit it high, you hit it low, okay?" |

Desire hadn't ever seen her rainbow-haired companion use magic before, so she was quite sympathetic to Sett's ordeal about handling the sparking lachryma, as she assumed that Sett could not use magic. She had to say she admired Sett for that continuous spunk, despite the fact that the girl was on the wanting side when it came to throwing magic tricks around. Turning to see Sett conversing with the ghost, she wondered what they were conversing about. Whatever it was, the ghost answered in the negative. With any luck, whatever the ghost gave a negative answer to would not affect their attempt at breaking the lachryma. As Sett approached, suddenly the rainbow-haired girl seemed to get an idea. Wondering what Sett was up to as she disappeared, Desire stayed close to the wall, at an area where there was no evidence of red lightning eviscerating, although the striking of the lachryma's pulses of energy seemed rather chance-controlled. She prayed Sett would quickly return; it would not do to be crouching by the wall when the lachryma began misbehaving again. Sett reappeared above the empty space that had once been a room, indicating that Desire attack from below the menacing shard while she smote it from above. A smart idea, in Desire's opinion. Since Desire could always go 'Take Over mode' and hit the crystal with increased power, Sett would use the force of gravity to attempt to even out the differences in power. It was really rather workable. "Sounds like a plan, Sett," the pink-haired girl called out in response. "Ready when you are...." Well, it seemed the lachryma crystal was not as interested as Desire in being ready when Sett was, because at that very moment, a low but clearly audible ominous hum suddenly began sounding, and from no other source than the lachryma. "Sett!" Desire yelled, the trepidation evident in her voice, "I think we'd better hit this thing now, or there'll be two new ghosts to keep our friend over there company." Her arms turned a purple hue, as she activated her powers in preparation for the strike. As the ghost had said, it had to be concerted, and it was now or never; at this rate, any extra hesitation would probably see Desire getting blown to pixie dust and smithereens. "Now!" the Take Over mage yelled, making an uppercut-like attack to strike the bottom of the crystal, hoping that Sett was attacking just that very moment as she did. Because if not.... |

It was certainly a drop from the ledge that Sett had herself perched on, though it did offer a fantastic view to the destruction of the manor. Holes had formed all along the walls, offering views of all sorts of rooms. It was sad in a way, the the ghost had lived alone throughout his former life, such a wealthy living and yet there had been no one to share it with. Giving a soft nod, the rainbow haired girl tried not to think of what will happen to the ghost after they destroyed the lachrima. She could still see the faint glow of his clothing as he hovered around the house, was he aware of the consequences, or was he certain that there would be no repercussions to their plan. Before she could try calling to the floating form, or to her pink haired companion who waited patiently down below, the lachryma began to softly hum, the sound slowly rising. Sett's eyes widened. She was no expert on lachrymas, but she could give a quick diognosis that the audible noise could only mean on thing. That it was about to enter into a very destructive track within a moments time. Her normally cream-like palor began to turn a pale colour as she backed up a little along the ridge. She quickly nodded to herself as she took a running start before she found herself soaring through the air, her legs kicking as she did so. "Here goes nothing then!" she cried, rearing her fist back as she went for a punch. Gravity suddenly took hold of her, as she began to plummet straight towards the ground. The lachryma blinked for a moment before a flash of red lightning burst free, catching Sett by her leg, sending them back behind her. As she went for a full dive, she let loose a punch, hitting the object at the same time as her partner, the lachryma shuddered for a moment, catching them both in place before shattering like glass. The force of the impact had left Sett hanging in the air for a moment before it let its grip over her and she fell to the ground with a loud thump. Her legs stung and as she gripped it, she realised that was going to have a very nasty bruise by the next morning. "I-I'm not going to explode too, will I?" she asked hurriedly, her head snapping up to attention. |

Desire could see that Sett was already moving when she prepared to make her attack on the killer lachryma. She was very sure the rainbow-haired girl could hear the quite audible and not-so-encouraging hum which was beginning to steadily emanate from the crystal. If any more time was delayed, and they had to hit the glowing and lightning sparky things that were soon to start issuing out of the crystal, would that result in another explosion? To be quite honest, Desire was quite unwilling to think of such unpleasant scenarios and their possible outcomes, whether good or bad. The next time Desire looked up, she was already swinging her uppercut, which was directed at the bottom of the floating crystal. Sett was in the air, having already leaped from her perch up above. And then, due to the rush of adrenaline in the blood and the critical nature of the moment, everything seemed to slow down. Not as though time had actually decided to slow down to lend credence to the suspense of the moment, which, in Desire's opinion, would have been much better witnessed as a spectator, since the participants couldn't tell whether the crystal would suddenly amputate any of them, or dig a hole in their faces, as a worst-case scenario. Needless to say, it was epic. In that moment of pseudo-time-slowing, Desire was able to capture a great deal of information with her senses: the rainbow-haired girl aligning her body to execute an aerial punch, a bolt of crimson energy streaking outwards to strike Sett's leg (Desire got close to having a heart attack at that point), Sett's body aligning into a diving position which the average mammal would fear to position itself without a softer substrate beneath it on a good day, the feel of static on Desire's exposed skin, the continuous, ominous hum from the crystal... And bang! They'd both hit the floating object at the same time. If time had slowed down then, it seemed to pause, then the crystal shattered into tiny pieces, and the hum was silent. Sett thumped to the floor not so comfortably, and Desire was quick to run to her side. "Well, at any rate, you're not glowing, and there's no audible hum," Desire replied to Sett's question, hoping that would reassure the rainbow-haired girl, "so at the very worst, I think you'll just have a little burn or something like that. Right, Mr. Ghost-guy-with-the-pernicious-joke-book?" So saying, Desire turned to look for the ghost. Hopefully, he had nothing else for them to do.... |
