"Wait, hold the fuck up. That thing has WINGS?!" Michael sat down on a chair, running his hand through his hair. He listened to the explanation that, in order for that to happen, they need to get into some kind of coccoon before emerging into the terrifying thing he saw in front of him, in the book. "A bestiary?" Hanna nodded and handed it to Michael, assuring him he can use it as much as he needed for this situation. "Damn, so this lizard is actually like a butterfly? Freaky..." Hanna nodded. "The most important part that could help you is that the Kanima only acts as an instrument of vengeance. It is an obedient beast that only attacks those targeted by its master. Something like-" "An instrument of vengeance?" Hanna nodded. "Yall need to be careful. If it isn't the beast itself, it's the master. Both are dangerous." Michael nodded, shook Hanna's hand and left. As they left, he sighed. "You should come back in a couple of hours. I'll have an antidote prepare from the remaining toxin in that claw." The mage crossed his arms as they tried to come up with some kind of strategy. "Obviously, we have two courses of action. A, we found and capture the master and B, we defeat the beast. But how we turn it back, I don't think even Hanna knows..." Michael sighed. "So now the question is, who would have the kind of thirst for vengeance that would drive them into this? I mean, it's not like we're saints, but still, we are able to control the flow of crime and vendettas here..." |

"It's already been a hassle to take it down now, but if it evolves then..." Adam bit his lip, frustrated by the entire situation, "I highly doubt that this...metamorphosis, is purely physical. He's bound to have some change in the type of magic he uses, am I right?" As Michael took the bestiary to take a look at the beast, he looked repulsed at the sight before him, the Nightingale raising a brow before walking over there, looking at the illustration of what was supposed to be a fully evolved Kanima. He widened his eyes for a brief moment before scowling, We can't let that thing evolve. Adam immediately thought. "I'm not even that sure, there's no proper documented evidence of the strengths and capabilities of those bastards when they're fully fledged, so if I'm going to be completely honest, if you face one, you're essentially going in blind." Hanna admitted, his eyes lowering, as if he was disappointed in himself for not being good enough. "But...will we be able to take a fully evolved Kanima on?" Adam asked, although in all honesty, he wasn't completely sure if he wanted the answer. Jack looked away, scratching his head, opening his mouth to utter something, but his voice faltered, his unspoken words answering the question. "I see...so that's how it is." Adam breathed, his back resting against the wall and his arms crossed. Jack also managed to tell the two of how above all else, it was essentially a weapon for revenge towards it's master's foes, an instrument of vengeance, as Michael so eloquently put. Adam narrowed his eyes before thinking, Why is the master seeking revenge, then? We're a dark guild, but to go so far as to have a beast such as a Kanima in your arsenal for your personal vendetta...what did we do to that man? This whole Kanima ordeal was starting to just straight up frustrate the Raven. He was sent in to investigate the murder and eliminate the perpetrator, not slay this horrific deformity of a mage. But, maybe it was the fact that he wanted to conquor something that made him feel helpless, or the fact that he wanted to impress Michael so that he'd put in a good word for the Nightingale to the rest of the guild, or maybe it was just because. But he had too much pride as a mage and a member of Raven Tail to abandon this mission. "Hanna, one more thing before we leave," Adam began, the beast scholar looking up to meet the Raven's eyes, before proposing the idea, "If we attack it while it's still cocooned, will it be vulnerable?" Hanna nodded, informing, "Definitely, despite leading to it's most powerful state, the cocoon is when it's most vulnerable. You'll be able to take it out easily, that is, if it's master isn't guarding the damn thing." The Nightingale nodded in acknowledgement, before actually smiling at the man, "Thanks." Before following Michael out the door, Jack saying for them to return in a few hours for an antidote to the Kanima's poison. "Walker, should we even turn that man back?" Adam asked, not hesitating to ask the more harsh questions, "Like Hanna said, prior to becoming a reptillian nuisance, they were already slimy bastards to begin with." He continued to walk and speak, but now his hazel eyes were steeled, "I'm not sure what your moral standing is, but I must remind you that we're Raven Tail, a dark guild. Our task was meant to hunt down the thing that was killing our members, not revert it back to it's original state." "As for the previous idea of capturing the master, we don't know a thing about him and he controls a volatile monster that's hellbent on killing Raven's, he's bound to have some sort of scheme of killing at least a number of us off and probably vast amounts of power. It looks like your ideas all revolve around non-lethal measures on the things that seem determined to kill us. Why should we show them the mercy that they do not show for us?" After his monologue was over, Adam groaned, muttering, "Honestly this job is getting too complicated for my tastes, but it is a job, and we gotta complete it." Although after hearing Michael's questions of why someone would be after Raven's despite them heavily regulating their crime, the Nightingale simply stated, "There are a multitude of possibilities, Mana, but remember we use physical intimidation and assault to keep our so called peace. Someone's bound to be pushed over the edge by that and somehow end up controlling a Kanima." |

Michael had listened to the exchange between Adam and Hanna when it came to their chances against an evolved Kanima as well as the possibility of killing it in its cocoon form. "Well, let me put it this way," he said, when all was said and done, "Let's hope for the best, but prepare for the worst." As they got out, Michael could visibly see the frustration on Adam's face, despite the fact that they hadn't done much since the beginning. Still, it was understandable. The job was simply to find the one who was harming their members and now, it became this whole pseudo-supernatural thing. Michael listened to Adam as he ranted about letting the Kanima's human form alive and how to stop the master. The Raven understood what he was going through; Michael had been in his shoes not so long ago when it came to morals. Michael took out his gun. "This is a Mana Colt M1911 Custom. It's a pair of semi-automatic, magazine-fed, recoil-operated pistol chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge. It was especially made so that, when I pick it up, it will take a small portion of my magic and create the bullets needed to make them. By nature, a mana bullet does not kill, which is why I took that kind of pistol." "99% of my job in Raven Tail, outside of official missions, is about extortion, assault, physical intimidation, bribery, protection, you name it. Assassination and the likes only comes once per three months, even less. If I have to kill," he said, as he extended his left arm and created a ball of ki, "I have the magic necessary for it." "The job given to me is not to destroy the Kanima. Malcolm gave Raven Tail one task: found who's responsible of this and kill him or her. The Kanima, while the one who killed the members, is not responsible of their deaths. It's just a means to an end. We can't just kill the master without taking away his toy, because the Kanima seeks a master. Killing it would be the 'easy' option, no matter how truly difficult it would be. However, if we can save the Kanima's life and revert it back to normal, then not only will we have taken away from the responsible parties, there is also the possibility of having that Takeover mage in Raven Tail's debt. A nice little bonus." He put his gun back in its socket. "If we can save it, we do. If there's nothing else but death for it, we kill it. Simple as that." He then put his hand on his head. "The main issue is to find the master. The instrument is strong, but the user either had great magic or great resolve... We need to gather information, find out who could have possibly have the cojones to do such a thing." Michael took a paper from his pocket and scribbled on it. "Here are four people I can think of." Jonathan Wayne En Sabah Nur Karn Albrez Falk Seelenfreund "At the very least, if they are not responsible, they might know something. We have to find that master as soon as possible. If we found no information before sundown... We'll have to play bait. That's the only way." He made his magic flare. "If needed, we'll attack on two fronts. I'll keep the Kanima busy while you find and kill the master." With that in mind, they went to visit the first man, Jonathan Wayne, the owner of the bar where the tragedy happened. |

Adam narrowed his eyes, sucking his bottom lip before biting it quite roughly. As Jack had managed to describe the threat level of the beast they were facing without even saying it aloud. The general summary was: Extremely Dangerous with a Low Chance of Living. Just another day of being a Raven...damn. He thought, unaware that his thoughts had inadvertently caused him to scowl. The frustration that had managed to build up over the past hour during this mission was evident on Adam, his facial features seemingly in a permanent frown. His jobs almost always went wrong but he always managed to get out in the nick of time. But this felt different. Out of everything he had faced: criminal organisations, back-stabbing contracts, treasure-hunting, and every other fucked up situation that the Nightingale had managed to pit himself in, he somehow survived another day. But despite this, the air of this mission reeked of uncertainty and a creeping sense of danger because of this monster. Perhaps it was the mystery surrounding the Kanima itself, there was virtually no information regarding the weakness, abilities, or strengths that it had other than, "It's a big fucking lizard with big fucking claws and sharp fucking teeth that shoots fucking acid from it's fucking mouth." Other than that, nothing, and that was when it was in it's first stage of evolution, the final form of the Kanima, or, the illustration of it, anyway, looked terrifying to face. It went through a complete metamorphosis and there was a huge possibility that it's magic abilities could completely change. And as Michael introduced his pair of pistols to him, along with it's purpose and abilities, Adam nodded, before summarising, "So it's a pair of incredibly powerful guns that can't kill." He sighed, scratching his head before asking, "You can at least switch off the whole non-lethal thing, right? When it comes down to it, we might have to put that beast down, permanently." "Funny, my choice of jobs for Raven Tail is essentially the opposite." Adam chuckled, before continuing, "Although I mostly take up assassination contracts, my two weapons are the Shock Batons: a pair of well-forged escrima sticks that can combine to make a bo staff...however, considering the Kanima has protective skin, I think that my weapons are obsolete since I'm used to taking out people who don't have armor-like skin." Michael also had managed to provide a well-founded argument on reverting the Kanima's back to it's original form as a takeover mage, Adam's eyes softened, "You make a good point, alright. However, do we even know how to revert a Kanima back to a human?" "If the master has enough power to control something as volatile as that, then both of us ought to be careful. Adam watched as Michael scribbled down a few names, the D-class Raven read all their names aloud before asking, "These are our four options for the guy? How do you know they have the capabilities to control it?" Adam still trusted Michael's instincts, knowing that the Mana Marksman's accomplishments as a member of Raven Tail far surpassed the amount of work Adam has done in his time in the guild, so he followed the Marksman, nodding at his strategy for handling master and instrument, "Tell me about Jonathan Wayne, anything I need to know in case I have to take him out? It'd be nice to know what I'm possibly getting into, type of magic, strengths, weaknesses, anything?" OOC
