Gryffin was on verge of snapping when Tea had embraced him. At that point, all his frustrations and exhaustion seemed to have overwhelmed him that he broke into tears and embraced the other as he cried. He didn’t really want to appear weak but at that very moment, he felt scared and useless. He had experienced losing the people he loved before and he knew the pain that comes with it, so the thought frightened him and he could feel the same helplessness as he did back then. “I don’t want to lose him,” he mumbled against Tea. “I can’t lose him. I’m not going to lose him too.” He cried and let out all his building frustrations. And though Tea was quite soothing and calming, he couldn’t help but feel weak all of a sudden. And by the end of it, he could only cling at Tea as he thought he might fall over. Just then, there was a man who approached them. He was a middle-aged fellow with a fancy dresscoat and three-piece suit. He seemed quite gentlemanly as he approached them. “I hear your dilemma, miss and young man. I think I may be of some help. You see, I’m a budding veterinarian and I’ve just opened my clinic. It’s a long ways down the street from here, but please, allow me to be of service. I cannot think I will be able to rest easy tonight thinking I may have allowed another poor animal to suffer.” He would say as he knelt and gently patted Taiga’s head. “He’s already suffering a fever. We must hurry or the complications will worsen.” Almost immediately, Gryffin felt like a thorn was pulled out from the sides and he wanted to do anything just to help Taiga, even if this stranger had just so suddenly showed up. |

Tea was suspicious, of course, but to say she was willing to put that aside was an understatement; calming the crying Gryffin triggered an unusual feeling in her, and though it wasn't unpleasant she decided she'd much rather save a life than comfort him at the loss of another. "Well, Lead the way, Mr. "vet", and we'll follow" Tea answered, keeping her guard up. It was a single person, something Tea could handle alone, but there could be an ambush, or he could be a mage-- the amount of things that could go wrong were too high for Tea to just blindly trust a man she met on the street in the middle of the night. She considered carrying Gryffin along with Taiga, but upon remembering how she'd felt holding him earlier decided that she'd settle for holding his hand instead. Tonight's been stressful enough without addin' in these here mystery feelings Tea decided, following the man down the alleyway. |

As the two accepted the offer of the Good Samaritan, Gryffin was surprised that the man carried Taiga on his own, even wrapping the tiger with his coat. He would have been possessive of the tiger but the man knew how to carry him well enough to avoid any injuries. At least, he knew that the man knew what he was doing. So he and Tea and Sendou would follow the man down the street towards the said clinic. It was still new, alright, the signage still having a mark from a recent paint job. “Come inside as well. It’s already far too dark to wait out here,” said the man as he showed them inside. The clinic was normal room and he laid Taiga on a white table. He showed them towards the lounge area where they could wait and make use of the hot water ready for hot drinks for visitors. Gryffin was still on the edge and insisted he watch the man treat Taiga, and of course, seeing the genuine concern of the boy, the man acquiesced to his request. It would take about half an hour, a few syringes and a few explanations as well. The important part was that they managed to pull out some toxins and inject some medicine into the fire tiger cub. By the end of, the man was sweaty but seemed satisfied as Taiga was now breathing normally as he laid on the table. “He’ll have to sleep for a while. Rest for a day or two before he can go back to being his active self,” said the man as Gryffin patted the animal on the head. “You did good, kid. You were brave. Come on, you and your friend should rest as well.” With a nod and a thank you, Gryffin would hesitantly leave Taiga at the table for the night as he and the man would return to the lounge to find Tea and Sendou. Perhaps the comfy couch got them both too comfortable that they were as sleepy as Gryffin was? “As you can pretty much see, to save rent, the clinic is just below my apartment. If you don’t have a place to stay for the night, you can make use of my room upstairs, I don’t really mind. I was just glad I could help,” said the man again as he patted Gryffin on the head. “You sort of remind me of my younger self after all. But this time, I’m here to save your friend.” And if the group would accept the offer, there was the spiral staircase at the corner of the clinic that led to a simple studio-type apartment upstairs where a normal bed was placed at the corner and where desks were filled with medical books and a kitchenette and a simple toilet and bath to another side. Of course, Gryffin would just collapse on the bed without another word and just drift to sleep. |

Tea was paranoid, but far too tired to do anything about it. She'd watched closely as the shady Samaritan worked, and was surprised that he hadn't tried anything fishy. He was diligent in his operations, clearly explaining every step. That his medical knowledge surpassed Tea's was not unexpected; he'd claimed to be a doctor, so it made some sense that he was capable of more than simple field dressings and improvised remedies. Offering to let them stay was what bothered Tea. Throughout her entire adventure, no one had offered such a thing after already providing this much, and it was this simple fact that kept Tea paranoid, even after all the kindness she'd recieved; only exhaustion kept Tea from leaving the bed she'd been given. She looked to Sendou, and sighed. "...I'm starting to think that the only reason I asked to watch the operation with Gryffin, and been so paranoid about this fellow" She began, her loyal vulture looking attentively at a randomly selected part of the wall, "Was cause I wanted to...do somethin' for him." At this, Sendou turned towards his master, and stared expectently. Tea looked to him sadly-- and sniffled slightly. "After all this, I can barely deal with a couple of wolves, and we woulda lost Taiga if this guy hadn't just popped out of nowhere." "I'm..." Tea started, tears beginning to well up; After a few deep breaths, this display of emotion was stifled, and she continued as though nothing had happened. "I'm supposed to be better than this by now; that's what i've been working towards, and that's why I joined Lamia scale." Tea would have continued, but her exhaustion finally won out, and she was fast asleep. |

The two were quite exhausted that they would only get to wake up by noon the next day. Gryffin was terribly woken up by hunger and fell off the bed in the process. And it was at that moment when he smelled a very tempting aroma in the air. Without much thought, he walked rather lethargically from the bed and found the kitchenette at the other corner where the animal doctor was cooking something delicious. And when he was noticed, he almost jumped as he didn’t think he would act so inappropriately like that. “Hahaha, no need to be alarmed. You’re all probably hungry. I cooke a simple lunch so why don’t you both join me?” said the doctor as he continued to make some sort of fried rice. “Ah, what about Taiga?” asked Gryffin. “He’s still sleeping but you can go downstairs to check up on him if you want. He’ll be fine, kid. Trust me.” And without a moment to lose, Gryffin raced down the spiral staircase, albeit a little noisy to might have woken the others, and went into the clinic area to find the fire tiger cub still asleep. He leaned close and laid his head next to Taiga’s chest and was relieved to hear the other’s steady heartbeat. He stayed there for a while longer, placing a hand over the other and brushing against the fine silk-like fur that would be the primary reason why his species was endangered and often brought to black markets, but it remained pristine and fine. So he knew that the fire tiger cub was doing okay. “It’s okay, Taiga. I’m here. I won’t leave you,” he whispered as he seemingly forgot about the brunch. But with the table and the food set, the doctor thought it strange for them to not yet be up and about, so he went over to where Tea was sleeping and gently woke her. “Sorry for disturbing you, but it’s best to wake up and get some food and energy going. Otherwise staying in bed might end up detrimental to your health.” |

Tea and Sendou had just returned from a morning jog at this point. ------------------------------------ ...In theory; in practice, Sendou flew around and taunted Tea with loud squawks as she jogged beside him. Her worries of last night had been swept away by slumber's embrace, and though she was still unsure if their good Samaritan doctor had any licence or qualifications at all, Tea had decided that he was probably harmless. After all, he hadnt charged them anything, and this (Tea's finances being what they were) was a definite point in his favor. Slowing to a stop near a bench, Tea beckoned her feathered companion to her side, reaching into her fanny pack to produce a treat for him-- a cube of bone marrow. Sendou perched on his master's shoulder, and greedily consumed the cube while Tea stretched. "y'know, I ought to go back and talk to Gryffin she thought aloud, "See how he's holding up. Errything worked out ok I reckon, but it ain't like this was a walk in the park". Sendou responded by squawking angrily at random passersby as they looked at the duo with confusion (those who were close enough to smell Tea had a different reaction; having been running all night and morning without changing clothes tended to have that effect.) Satisfied, with her stretches, Tea plopped down on the bench. "Sendou, I gotta say i'm glad I met that kid" Tea said, her bird only paying the bare minimum amount of attention to her. "I mean, they always say things change when you bring a youngin' into the picture, but I reckon I never thought they meant it much." "Fortunately housing is pretty cheap these day, and I hear the schools in Belladonna are top notch, so its just a matter of getting the adoption papers and--" Tea stopped herself as soon as she realized what she was saying, her face bright red. Even Sendou picked up on it, Looking at his master's face with something superficially similar to concern. "I...I cant afford no adoption--wait, I dont even know if he's an orphan or not!" Tea stammered, "And since when was ANY of that even on the table?? I'm too young for all this!!". Panicking, Tea took a deep, gasping breath. The hell am I thinking? She wondered, ignoring the numerous looks from onlookers. When did I get all...mother-y? ----------------------- Tea remembered her embarrassing outburst during her jog as she sat down to eat with Gryffin, and smiled as she pushed it out of her thoughts. With the insistence of the doctor, Gryffin took a break from staying with Taiga and joined them for brunch. Tea looked quite lively as did Sendou, but the doctor looked rather spirited today. Perhaps it was because he was happy that Taiga was doing okay and with the progress of his recovery, he was expected to be up and about by the next day. “Thank you very much, doctor...” said Gryffin. “Calum,” said the doctor as he began to serve them some freshly brewed tea, “Doctor Calum Stein, at your service. And it was really no problem at all. Like I said last night, what kind of an animal doctor would I be if I would just turn a blind eye to one that needs my help.” “Still, it was very generous of you. How should I repay you? I don’t have much but I’m a hardworker so if you’ll please, I can render some sort of service,” said Gryffin. “Nonsense. This was on the house,” replied the doctor as he patted Gryffin on the head. “I did mention it reminded me of when I was younger so I’m just glad I was able to help before anything serious happened to him. But if you really want to do something, I’d say you just have to be ready to take care of him more properly. He is a fine creature and a rare one at that. He’ll need an extra more care than your usual pet.” “Oh I will!” said Gryffin, cheerfully and lively before finishing his meal. Then, Doctor Calum would turn to face Tea, “Speaking of which, I am quite curious, and I do apologize if I offend you in this manner, but what exactly are you? In my profession, yourself is quite amazing.” |

The question took Tea by surprise, and she didn't hear clearly at first. "Oh, Sendou here is a Bearded Vulture; I found his mother up on gillimancaro, and ended up meeting him later" She explained, hungrily consuming her brunch. It wasn't until Tea began to wash it down with...tea...that she realized what had actually been asked. "Oh...ya'll meant me?" She stalled. "Well, as a matter o' fact i'm" Tea began, quickly looking about. She found her cup of hot tea, and took another long sip. I dont actually have an answer for that! she thought, panicking. Certain that she'd used up every possible method of stalling, Tea set down her cup. Sendou, sensing that his master was in distress, pecked her slightly, and squawked loudly in her ear; he'd had quite enough of Tea's distress during the jog, and wouldn't suffer any more. Tea sighed, thankful that Sendou had at least given her another second to think, and after taking just a bit too long to clear her throat, she answered. "I ain't really sure..." she began...stopping herself when a brilliant idea presented itself to her. "...That I can answer that durin' mealtime; there's a lotta particulars, and I reckon they ain't all appropriate for this kinda settin'" She said. "I'll tell ya'll this though; I make good use of what I am, and I reckon ya'll ought to try the same" she finished, smiling. Tea sat, satisfied that her not-quite-a-lie-under-the-right-light was successful, and that if worse came to worse she could smoothly admit that she actually had no idea what she was. Sendou seemed satisfied as well, and returned to the important task of gnawing on Tea's hat. Edited by Anta, Jul 7 2015, 05:25 PM.

Doctor Calum accepted Tea’s explanation, not wanting to pry any further since he could tell that she was uncomfortable with the topic. Nevertheless, he remarked his amazement at her actions in taking in the vulture. “Well, I can tell that you have a kind soul for caring for your partner, here. I’m sure that you’ll manage brilliantly,” he would say before then patting Gryffin on the head. “Since your friend is still recovering, would you like to come along to the market with me? I have a few things I need to buy. And I also would have to restock on some of the treatment vials I used last night.” “Oh, ah me?” said Gryffin quite confused and giving Tea and Sendou a glance before looking back to the doctor. “Of course. I’ll do anything to help along.” “Sorry if it sounded pushy of me. I just need your help since I’ll be gathering some nutritional supplies for your fire tiger. I’m certain you know already what he best needs to eat for times like these. It’s better to get first-hand information from the owner after al, rather than simply guessing. I have to say, this is my first time to deal with his kind so I don’t want to mess it up.” said the Doctor before he looked over to Tea, “And I figured miss ... uh... Tealin was it? I figured she’d be okay with watching over the clinic in the mean time. After all, she seems quite kind and any client coming in would feel at ease with her than someone so meticulous and frank like me. Don’t worry, though. Gryffin and I should be back quite shortly, so if there isn’t any immediately medical emergency, you can have the client wait at the lounge. I’ll give you some anesthetic candy for the animal to lick as well, just in case it were seriously in pain and just to help it subside.” And so with that much planned out for the day, they would depart right after breakfast and after Doctor Calum would show Tea where the anesthetic candies were. Little did she know that it wouldn’t be long after the two would leave for the supplies that a strange customer would come upon the clinic with a rather exotic looking pet, seemingly complaining about its lethargic form and insisting that Tea would do something about it. |

"Looks like we've got the run of the place, Sendou!" Tea announced as she wove off her new friends. Sendou Squawked in agreement, and began heading towards the basement. Tea noticed this, and quickly moved to block his path. "Now don't you dare, Sendou; Taiga still needs rest." she said, her pleas protested with angry squawks. The vulture first attempted to fly over Tea--an effort which was stopped with a quick glare on her part. Sendou pulled back immediately, and upon landing attempted to find another way. Another stony glare from his master ended these machinations as well, and Sendou finally gave up. Defeated, Sendou perched himself on Tea's shoulder, and rode along as Tea ensured that the front door was securely locked. Just as she finished sliding the bolt into place, Tea heard a loud and frantic knocking. "Some timing, right Sendou?" she mused sarcastically, Sendou squawking happily in response. Smiling, Tea slid the bolt back to the unlocked position and opened the door...to be greeted by a man wit ha frantic expression carrying something hidden by a blanket. "Ya'll need help with anything?" Tea asked. Whatever animal he's got there, I can help with! This time i've got the herbs I need for field medicine, not ta mention the run of the good doctor's place! she thought, smiling brightly. After the prior night, proving helpful was a rather high priority for her. The man looked up, seeming as though he'd already prepared a spiel...but instead gaped in shock as he beheld Tea. This was confusing for her; people normally didn't think much of her appearance (Calum was forgiven for this, as a man of medicine would have every reason to be curious) so the fact that this man was so interested unsettled Tea. "Uh, Can I help ya'll?" She said deliberately, a hint of condescension in her tone. The man said nothing, and instead nudged his blanket-clad animal. The creature that emerged took Tea and Sendou both completely by surprise. Edited by Anta, Jul 15 2015, 03:35 PM.
