Belladonna wasn’t far from where he was at the moment. He could easily arrive there before nightfall or so he had thought. He was stronger than before so he should be able to. But for some reason, things didn’t turn out as great as he thought. Gryffin leaned against one of the large trees near the end of the forest that perched on the hill that overlooked the town just at the other end of the horizon. As he did so, he could almost feel his energy leaving his body and he slid down to the ground, unconscious.

Earlier that day, Gryffin and Taiga were boarded on a train that was heading to Belladonna. He was hopeful to get there without much incident. After all, it wasn’t like this would be his first to ride a train so there was no real reason for him to be so nervous about it. Yet, along the way, the train broke down. Because of it, Gryffin and his fire tiger pet Taiga had to push through on foot since he didn’t want to wait forever to reach Belladonna. After all, he had only asked permission from his grandparents to be away for the weekend. If he was going to waste time, he was making sure it was on something cool.

But alas, the forest going to Belladonna was a dangerous one. He had to escape the wolves that hounded them. He jumped over the edge and fell off and tumbled down the slope. He got separated from Taiga and had been trying to look for his pet all day-long. That when he finally found the poor thing, Taiga was sick from eating a poisonous mushroom. Thankfully, it wasn’t lethal for his body as he could strengthen himself with his magic. Still, Gryffin had to carry the tiger on his back as they continued.

And he hoped to reach the city before nightfall so he could get his pet real food and a proper treatment. But alas, even he would succumb to exhaustion, hunger and so he laid the tiger on the foot of a tree and he would rest for a while. But he didn’t think he would fall unconscious when he had only wished to rest for a bit.

"Sendou, get off of him!" Tea chided. Her bearded vulture companion Squawked with disapproval, but obeyed; in a flutter of feathers, he returned to Tea's shoulder. Tea shook her head, and turned her attention back to the motionless--but clearly still breathing-- boy before them. The young lad looked a bit scratched up, but Tea had already checked his vitals; he'd be fine, provided he got something in his stomach when he got up. Sendou trying to wake him up by peckin' the poor kids face notwithstanding, Tea mused, casting a quick glare towards her feathered friend, I ain't worried about him. Tea looked towards her other patient, and frowned. The Tiger she'd found near the boy was clearly in worse shape. Tea sat down next to animal, and gently stroked its fur. Both of them would be fine, but such a situation was still troublesome; Forests weren't exactly havens at night. Letting out a sigh, Tea reached for her canteen; she could succeed where Sendou failed.

---------------------------------------------

Tea was almost as guilty as her new charges, and would have ended up similarly if not for her experience; she'd been practicing her magic in the forest when she'd realized it was getting late, and began heading back...before she'd decided that the day would be a waste if she didn't practice tracking as well...and after that, figured that since she was staying late anyways, she could do some quick crunches. After sundown, while Tea was jogging on her way back to town, she managed to nearly trip over the small redheaded child...when Sendou's angry squawking alerted her to the sick tiger nearby. Fully aware of the dangers of the forest, and of how foolish it would be to stay in the forest any longer than necessary, Tea resolved to wake the boy, or carry himself and the tiger to saftey.

She hoped she'd be able to manage the former.

--------------------------------------

Tea, still hoping that she wouldnt have to carry two heavy people on her backs, opened her canteen, and splashed water on the boy's face.

He looked pretty strong for his age; Maybe I can get him to help with the tiger Tea thought,

Gryffin felt something sharp against his skin but he was simply too tired and the darkness that enveloped him was comfortable. He didn’t want to leave it just yet. And as for Taiga, the fire tiger peered an eye as he sensed strange people about them, not knowing if it was going to be problematic. But his vision was blurry and he ended up succumbing to his own pains.

But after a good while, something cold felt on his skin. Gryffin grumbled lightly but then he managed to open his eyes. He was weary but he saw the canteen right in front of his face. He then raised his head lightly and looked at the stranger before him. He was confused at first but he didn’t mind anymore. He then looked to his other side and suddenly became worried when he saw Taiga.

Ignoring anything else, Gryffin suddenly felt awake as he rushed towards the tiger’s side and held him close. He then looked back with a frantic expression. “Can you please help? I need to... I need... to get to town... and” said Gryffin as he tried to stand, carrying Taiga, but he felt his strength weakening and he fell back on the ground. He grunted and then looked back at the stranger and glared at her. “Why aren’t you doing anything? He needs help!”

"Well, Glad to see..." Tea was inturrupted before she could finish, as the boy made his way to the tiger and completely ignored her. "...that you're awake." Tea's concerns as to whether the boy would help her with her other patient were proven unfounded, as it seemed the two were acquainted, but the human was in worse shape than she'd thought. He spoke, and Tea only nodded. When the boy became more frantic, Tea interrupted. "He ain't the only one who needs help, squirt!" She chided, pushing her canteen into the boy's arms. "Besides, neither of us can carry him alone; Drink up, and we'll take him together." Tea's frown shifted, and she grinned at the boy. "You ain't gonna save your friend by gettin' stressed and knocking yourself out again, alright?"

Sendou Squarked with delight, and flew over to the tiger. He moved to peck the creature, but remembering Tea's earlier command he stopped himself, and waited...looking quizzically at the canteen she held. Tea understood his meaning, and shook her head slightly. Sendou, if he could have, would have rolled his eyes; the smug standing position he took along with a solitary and defient squawk more than adequately conveyed his sarcastic intent.

Satisfied that her message was received, Tea put her hand on the boy's shoulder. "I'll make sure he's alright, ya hear?" she reassured him in as calm a tone as she could muster. Since the boy was not only awake but seemed to know the Tiger well, this presented an opportunity. "Look, can you tell me anything at all about what might have happened to your friend here? I want to be sure we should move him before we go an' do that."

Gryffin paused for a moment and took in the words that came the stranger’s mouth. He then looked back at Taiga with a worried face before glaring at the bird that tried to peck at the tiger. Then again, he sighed, as the thought entered his mind and appreciated the water canteen given him, thanked, and then took in as much as he could.

“Taiga, he... sort of ate something that wasn’t intended for his kind,” said Gryffin, wiping the back of his gloved hand across his lips before he took in another mouth full and then leaned over to pour it out just as he held the tiger’s mouth open enough. Clearly, Taiga was still indisposed to even twitch or nudge at the water given to him. “This is bad. He might need medicine for this.”

He then tried to lift Taiga again, and this time, he quickly turned around so he could place the tiger’s head over his shoulder as he lifted him over his back. This was a lot better, since the weight would then be on him and he could push like this was sort of training. “I’ll carry him. Please lead the way. I don’t know this place just yet. Please.” He said with determination on his face as if to say he wouldn’t hear anything else about the matter than what he was determined to do.

Tea nodded. There'd be no arguing with this youth, and she was in almost full agreement with his plan. If he collapses again, ill just drag them both to safety she decided. Tea motioned, and led the way. She momentarily considered sending Sendou ahead with a message to the local hospital, but decided against it; doing so would cost them valuable time, and the Tiger-- named Taiga, I think Tea remembered -- was stable for now. The biggest danger the four faced wasn't something that could be solved with medicine.

This was apparent, no doubt to all involved, when the night was pierced with a fearsome howl...followed by another...and another.

Tea took a deep breath, and calmed herself. Howling didn't mean that an attack was iminent...just that wolves were near; like many animals, wolves wouldn't strike unless their territory was crossed. Though it was dark, Tea had been careful to avoid any signs of wolf habitation that she could make out in the dim light.

I'm pretty good...but I ain't "25 hungry wolves good" just yet she mused, doing her best to remain focused.

As their small group began to walk, night fall came. Gryffin had hoped to exit the forest in time, but it seemed they were a little too late. Still, he was glad they had company now, seeing as how he was simply forcing himself to continue walking while carrying Taiga. He was already short on breath but he ignored as they moved. But to make things worse, there were numerous howls that echoed in the forest and he glanced back for a brief while to check. This was definitely not a good sign.

He glanced over to the stranger and her bird and realized that he didn’t even know their names yet. So he quickly spoke, “I’m sorry about earlier. You were kind enough to give us water and wake us up. My name’s Gryffin Lascelles and this is Taiga. What’s your name?”

He supposed that distracting his mind from knowing he was tired would be a good way to avoid from tumbling over from exhaustion. Besides, there was also that nagging voice in his head that spoke of pride and honor that he should keep awake and strong until they could get to town.

But even the simplest of distractions couldn’t help when something fast and strong and abrupt had hit him from behind, sending Gryffin barreling across the ground and hitting a tree nearby. The air was knocked out of him in an instant. And looking from he once stood was a large wolf who had good bite on the fire tiger’s leg, its eyes now set with dangerous intent on Tea and her bird. And to make matters worse, numerous eyes appeared surrounding them, the rest of the pack making their appearance.

Tea hadn't even had a chance to introduce herself; before she could speak, the pack had made their move. She'd been hoping to avoid them, but preparing just in case of such a situation. Steeling herself, she called out: "Sendou, now!" Without a second of hesitation, her bearded vulture left his perch upon her shoulder, and flew towards the wolf. Expecting a divebomb, the ravenous carnivore loosened its grip and prepared itself...

...only to be blinded a moment later as Sendou emitted a white hot flash of light from his beak. Tea wasted no time, and dove towards Taiga. She struggled to move the beast first, and sighed. Closing her eyes, Tea became enveloped in a softer light, making her body appear as a silhouette against the glow...and any who witnissed what followed would be thankful they could only see as much. Tea's skin began to bulge as lumps made their way around her body, and her very physique began to change; her straight legs twisted and changed, her bones rearranging themselves as muscles moved to occupy locations they had never been before. Her shoes slipped off her feet-- though one could hardly call them feet anymore, as they'd shifted in shape and become coated in resin...as though they were hooves. Tea's already inhuman fur spread across her body, quickly covering far more than it had before, while her horns, though unchanged, now seemed far more fitting. The only thing that remained human of Tea, as she adapted to her now quadrepedal form, was her face. Tea mused that a human opponent might have found this funny, and smiled. Guess its good this feller ain't human she thought.

Half blinded and now seemingly outsized, the wolf hesitated; rather than striking, it snarled and hissed, backing away defensively while the rest of the pack seemed too shocked from the flash to act.

It went just as Tea was hoping it would. Hurriedly moving on all fours, Tea managed to utilize her now hoofed hands to hoist Taiga on to her now goat-like back, and scurried to Gryffin. "Run, now!" She yelled, not stopping her escape. Sendou flew above, ready to utilize his magic again should the pack pursue. "Name's Tea by the way, from Lamia Scale! Nice to meet you!" she yelled, smiling wildly; for all the danger they were in, this was actually quite exhilarating, like something primal had once more been tapped into.

Gryffin took a while before he could collect himself. He managed to get back up and only then did he saw Tea turn into some half-goat like shape and was carrying Taiga on her back. She quickly pulled him as they started to run away, while the opportunity was there. And he could only hope that those wolves would be stalled long enough for them to escape. And no farther than they have left the forest would they know they were finally within reach of Belladonna.

“We’re almost there,” said Gryffin as he ignored the pain from getting knocked down earlier and ran as fast as he could alongside Tea. This stranger who took the moment to help them was kind, and he would do he best to return the favor later. For the mean time, he just wanted to reach town and find a doctor for Taiga.

It would not be too long before they would reach the gates of Belladonna and the warm glow of lights from within was a relieving sight. Gryffin could almost melt into the thought of comfort but he persevered. He had to find a doctor for Taiga so he helped Tea as they would enter through the gates, and when they reached the main street began to look for places resembling a clinic. Sadly, most of them were for humans and Taiga was not exactly their forte.

“I don’t understand. What difference does it make if he’s not human? He’s in pain and he needs help!” he shouted as he left through one of the clinic’s doors and looked miserably at Tea. “I thought this place would save Taiga...”

After a bit of uncomfortable shifting, Tea was once again human -- or at least as human as she had been before her transformation. It seemed that they were out of trouble for the moment once they reached Belladonna, but it soon became clear that there would be no relief just yet as they were turned away from hospital after hospital. Tea sighed as Gryffin vocalized his frustrations, and put a firm hand on his shoulder. The pair had just been rejected by yet another clinic, and it was starting to get to Tea as well. Yet, she hid her own frustrations, and focused on comforting Gryffin. "Don't hold it against em'; I reckon they just ain't used to working on folks like Taiga" she explained camly, "and they don't want to accidentally do more harm than good."

This kid's in bad shape Tea thought, holding him close, I get it though; if anything happened to Sendou i'd be feeling the same way

Tea looked wistfully upwards, and sighed; the closest animal clinic she knew of was out in chrysanthemum, and while the trains were still running there was no way that they'd make it before Taiga's condition worsened. To Hell with this! she silently exclaimed. I reckon I know a bit of medicine, and there's a zoo nearby. If i can make a stomach remedy that wont make things worse, then-- Tea stopped, remembering that the plants needed for the remedy grew far from there, and frowned.

Without realizing it, she held Gryffin a little tighter.
