What's The Point

It was not often that Cynthia Maximiliana ever found herself at any point higher than the ground for any extended period of time. But what was to be said? She lived a life of exceptions and firsts. Of course, being herself, the child did not dwell on this thought, instead opting to enjoy her current position for as long as she could, perhaps drift off to speak to Victoria, or perhaps Betsy. Now, one might inquire in what position she was exactly in that warranted such behavior. Currently, Cynthia was sitting rather comfortably on a large tree branch, a good twenty feet off the ground, kicking her legs casually and humming a broken, melody-less tune to herself. What was a 12-year-old girl doing twenty feet up in a tree? The child herself had no clue. And frankly, nor did she care. Not knowing and not caring was a typical combination within Cynthia's head, one that manifested when she simply did not want to focus on anything. It was a rather strange way to focus on something, but a strange girl like herself required strange methods to keep herself in check, inefficient at it as she was. The forest around Cynthia seemed to stretch for miles, innumerable clumps of foliage in every direction. It was a peaceful place, isolated as it seemed, a place that reminded the child distinctly of Betsy's domain. But speaking of the domains of the Dreamscape... ...It was getting late. Normally, this wasn't an issue, and Cynthis would care less had she been inside the walls of the nearby Poinsetta. However, it was the fact that this forest seemed to resemble the Dreamscape so accurately that took the thought to the forefront of her attention span, if only for a minute or so. Frank...Frank and his friends came out at night. Frank was pretty nice, normally...but you didn't mess with him at night. She should go. Soon. Of course, this wasn't the Dreamscape, and of course, she forgot that suggestion a second later. Some things just never changed. |

Yuurei had escaped the clutches of his guild master for the time being, but he had been taken out of Magnolia. It wasn’t like he was trying to leave the place, but they just kept coming at him to do jobs. He didn’t want any part in that, but it was happening anyways. He had made his way into a forest, but not he forest he was used to. This forest was way different and it was named the Lavender Forest. It was a place he had heard about and he been meaning to go to many times, but he never had the chance. It was until today that he had managed to find his way to this forest and it was something of a beauty. The place he had gotten himself into was all lavender. He didn’t think this place was actually lavender, but that there was something here that had lavender feature, which brought the beauty for this place. It was nothing like that though. Instead, he had found himself within the beauty of it all and he couldn’t help but enjoy it. There were a lot of animals in this place, but none of them bothered to mess with him. The ones that were the predator, were not making their moves on him because the sense the danger that came from him. He had noticed the kind animals though had moved around him. They didn’t see the need to fear him, which he knew that he himself wouldn’t do anything to them. The dragon slayer had climbed on one of the many trees that was in the forest and looked around to see further ahead of himself. It was nice and there were squirrels around him on the tree as it was their home and they were okay with him there. He looked at one of them and smiled, but that was all he could do before he had pushed himself off the branch that he was on. He had landed on another tree branch without a problem as he was used to doing this in the forest. He was a natural when it came to jumping from trees to trees. He just continued to do this as he could smell the fresh smell of the fruits that had grown through this place. What he did think about now was whether or not the fruits here were also purple. He figured he would find that out later, but for now he decided that he would continue to move through the forest and see if he would bump into anything interesting. He continued to move through the area though as he jumped from the tree to tree. It didn’t take long for him to come to a stop though. He was no longer jumping from tree to tree, he had come to a scent that was familiar to him. He had known this scent because he had met this person before. It was in an alley in one of the many cities of Fiore. He had moved closer as he noticed that there was a small girl on the tree branch. He smiled because he wasn’t the only one enjoying the scenery of this place. ”Hi there Cynthia. I didn’t think I would see you around this place. What brings you here?” he asked her wondering what she would say. |

Even as the man spoke, Cynthia didn't turn her head; she was too busy thinking about...things. Things, yes. Rarely did the girl ever think up anything more complicated than the word "things". At least, other than her little-not-really Dreamscape that she loved to skip off to whenever her attention span was not taken. It really was quite hard for her to focus on more than one thing at a time with her short attention span and constantly-moving brain. Bam. Like that, her attention poofed over to Frank again. How are you doing, Frank? He's doing just fine, thank you for asking. Oh, that's wonderful, what has he been up to lately? Oh, nothing special, just the usual Frank things, you know? Ah, yes, the usual Frank things, I see. "Headbutt" is the funniest word ever. Potatoes are yummy. I wonder how Bugsy's doing. Probably going to fetch himself a yellow-tailed pinhead pencil papaya. With pickles. Now, Cynthia had no clue what "headbutt", "potato", or frankly any of the words in the previous paragraph that started with the letter "p", even meant. This didn't stop her from acting (at least in her head) that she did. Aaaaaand there went her attention span again, seemingly just remembering that there was a man on a tree speaking to her. He knew her name. She didn't know him. Wait, she did. Did she? "Oh, uuuuuum..." Who was he again? Wait, no. She knew him. "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY, MISTER LIGHT-GUY...DUDE...PERSON MAN!" She yelled excitedly, quite forgetting how to speak proper English. |

Yuurei was on the tree still, and he was looking at Cynthia as she was just sitting there. He had spoken up to her, but she didn’t anything to him. He was wondering what was going on, but remembered she had done this to the girl that had walked up to her before. She was an odd one indeed and her personality compared to Kitania was completely opposite. He kept his patience intact as she was a child and he was good with anything that tried to mess with his composure. He just stood there as he could see her moving her head around as if she was in deep thought. He found it quite adorable to see her act like that, but he figured it would come to a stop and she would realize that she just left him there without saying anything. What made things worst was that she didn’t remember his name. He made sure that he had just said his first name to not throw her off, but that happened anyways. She did, however, named him mister light guy, which he found funny because it meant that she remembered the flashy lights and that was it from him. He rubbed the back of his head as he took a seat on the branch he was crouched on, so he could have a better positioning and be more comfortable. ”Hi there Cynthia, the name is Yuurei, but you must have forgotten me already. I guess I’m not the important,” he laughed about what he said as he didn’t mind. She was young, she probably saw something far more important when he was there and decided to think about that instead. He just stood there as he figured that he might as well just bring up what he asked her again. His feet were dangling in the air now as he moved it back and forth right now. The two of them were high up in the air, but the fear of being this high wasn’t there for him at least. ”What brings you here Cynthia? I didn’t think you would be here in this forest and even on top of branch. Did you really climb all the way here?” he asked her. He hoped that he wasn’t stepping on any toes. He was just thinking about her safety and if she needed it, then he would be able to help her out. If not then he figured speaking to the little girl would pose as something interesting, weird, funny, and amusing. |

As little of a string of memory the little girl had hung onto the man by, the name "Yuurei" clicked easily enough in her head once spoken. "Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh, Yew-ray!" Came the inevitable exclamation caused by Cynthia's finally hearing the man's name after less than a few days. "Naaaaaah, Yew is totes im...por...imp-or...impor-bleh." She did not appear to have a wonderful grasp on her 3-syllable words lately (nor did she ever, frankly), but that didn't stop the child from trying (and failing). But hey, it's the thought that counts - particularly when dealing with one who barely spares thoughts for anything, ever. At least she somewhat made up for it with a toothy little grin she gave the man after the fact. Cynthia did not recognize the following inquiry (frankly, she hardly recognized it as an inquiry in the first place), but did recognize the one after. "Nah. Bugsy helped me! Say hi-hi, Bugsy!" With this, she raised the little bunny doll up and waved one of its appendages in a simple pantomime of greeting. The white-haired girl seemed to be quite enjoying herself, frankly; whether this was because of Yuurei or simply because she was in a self-imposed good mood was unclear. Of course, when one is sitting on a tree branch, and one removes one's hands from said tree branch whilst sitting on it, one tends to lose one's equilibrium alarmingly quickly, particularly when one is a child. This was demonstrated wonderfully by Cynthia, who, in the process of manipulating Bugsy's arm, did a bit of teeter-tottering and proceeded to fall backwards, completely off the branch, and plummet through the air towards the ground. The child's reaction? Negligible. Her expression barely changed as she fell off, and Cynthia even continued making Bugsy wave whilst airborne. Edited by Mango, Jun 12 2015, 09:23 AM.

He had heard recalling his name and he smiled at her because she had gotten his name right even though she had a short pause on it. Still, it seemed like the next words that came out of her mouth were words she couldn’t say. He didn’t know why, but he figured that they were too hard for her. Still, the girl was harmless in his eyes and there was nothing she could do right now. However, he noticed that she wasn’t in the cleanest state that she could be. That was when he figured why he didn’t think it was weird that she didn’t have her parents around here? She was in a forest alone without any parents, which made him come to a conclusion that she was an orphan, or she was a runaway. He didn’t know the exact answer, but he figured he would look out for her. Yuurei had met another little girl who was in the same situation, and the two were just as jolly. The difference was their speaking manner and their appearance and the stuff animal they were carrying. His question had been answer though and it seemed like the stuff animal she had with her had helped her get to where she was now. He blinked a few times as he was lost for words at first, but remembered that Kitania had been able to bring things into reality by simply drawing them. It could be that this girl had some ability to do something like that? He wasn’t sure it would be the same thing, but she noticed that the bunny had waved at him and being who he was, he waved his hand back at the stuff animal. It didn’t take long for him to notice what was going on. The girl had lost her balance now and she really didn’t get up there on her own. She was falling from the branch she was sitting on and was making her way to the ground below her. He did noticed though that her reaction didn’t change though. She was oblivious to what was going on and he had shook his head and laughed a bit because this was unbelievable. ”I guess things just happen to happen then,” he had pushed himself off the branch as well as he was falling head first now towards Cynthia. He was moving faster than she was, but his magic would be the reason why he had caught her. The tails on his back started to come out and without much of a problem they had stretch and reached out to the young girl who was waving the bunny’s hand still. It was a simple task as he had grabbed a hold of her. It didn’t solve the fact that they were still falling, but he had an easy way to stop this. His hands and legs had light magic go around them and he was quick to grab a hold of as he latched onto it without much of a problem. Their fall had come to a quick stop, and he realized that it was best that they made their way to the ground actually. He had begun to climb down the tree now as he had Cynthia with his tails. The two made their way to the ground and when it was safe he had placed the girl on her feet before letting go of her. ”Nice to meet you Bugsy. You got to protect Cynthia more. She was falling to the floor,” he said as he looked at the animal with a smile on his face. |

Cynthia's life was one that likely should have ended long ago by various means: dehydration, starvation, severe head trauma, etc. But, these things were always circumvented by...something. Be it inconsequential adolescent girls for her to fall on top of, kind women who housed her, bathed her, and fed her, or guys with magical tails. In this case, it was the latter. "WEEEEE!" The little girl squealed in delight, waving her arms as if she were flying, even as Yuurei's long tail wrapped around her and the man brought her safely to the ground, the child landing on her feet with a bit of a stumble. "Bugsy, Bugsy, did you see that!? I was like whoosh and Yew was like neeeeeeeow and then I was like p'chow, p'chow!" One might wonder if the little girl was legitimately referring to the events that just took place, or something completely different that she had absent-mindedly thought of whilst she was falling, as she clearly didn't care for the fact that she was not in the position to be reminiscing about previous events. Truly, one might find that falling through the air is one of the best times to get some quality thinking in. At least, she never found time to in the first place, given the white-haired girl's mind was always in one facet of her imagination or another. "Noooo, nonono, Bugsy's a nice bunny! He heped me get up on Jon!" Cynthia pointed up at the tree as she said this, apparently using a made-up name for it. Or perhaps it was indeed named "Jon", and would come alive any second to scoop the child up and place her back on its branches. |

Yuurei had heard her as she was excited about what happened. She almost fell to her death in a sense. The way she was falling from the tree would have gotten her into a serious situation. She wasn’t even trying to break her fall, saver her own skin, so it would have been bad. Thank god he was here and he just smiled because she had found it pleasing at the end of the day. It was enjoyable since he was there and he understood where she was coming from. There was also the fact that she was a little girl, so there was nothing to worry about and she could live her life freely hoping those around her would watch over her. He had done so and he hoped that other people would do exactly that as well. Still, she was quick to defend Bugsy and he was okay with that. The bunny helped her get on the branch of the tree, which she called Jon, but why didn’t he help her when she was falling? He was confused about this, but didn’t question it as he figured he was going to keep that to himself, so he didn’t end up arguing with a little girl. He walked over to her though and he looked at her as he kneel down to be in the same position she was in. When he did that he could only smile at her, and patted her on her head. ”I understand he got you there and he is nice, but you were falling, and if I didn’t help you then who would have?” he made things simple for her and tried his best not to use any big words. He sighed as he stood straight up now as kneeling as a bit too much. ”You need to be more careful Cynthia. We don’t want anything bad to happen to you,” he said as he rubbed the back of his head. ”That is good to know you have a lot of friends Cynthia. Have you eaten, or bathed anytime lately?” he asked her. He could smell it a little bit on her, but he wasn’t sure if it was just because she was busy running around like little kids. The Dragon Slayer then figured that he shouldn’t have asked that, but it was too late. He did, however wonder if he should be on his way home. It would be best for him to do so, or he could just go on his way to a nearby Inn. Yuurei had kept his tails on his back because he wasn’t sure what Cynthia might do. He noticed that she was unpredictable, so he had to be prepared. ”By the way where do you sleep?” he asked nicely. He was looking out for her and he figured after she had answered his question, then he would continue with what he needed to say afterwards. |
