Well, Lee supposed he could confidently say that he had done a good job handling that little problem. Walking down the streets of Oshibana Town, the mercenary / soon-to-be Knight minded his own business as he walked. Wearing his leather armor and equipped with his lucerne, his shield, and a traveling pack, the young man looked rather exhausted. He had travelled all the way from Acacia, on Cortez's request, to handle a situation out in a small town near Oshibana. He had rendezvoused with some other mercenaries working for Cortez, and had worked to handle a bandit problem terrorizing a farming village. Things had gone rather well, actually, as they had only a short fight with the bandits before they had convinced the men to not attack the village anymore. Lee, at least, hoped that they would honor their agreement. But, regardless of the outcome, he had completed the job and had received his payment. A fat sack of jewels, hidden inside of the travelling pack he carried over his shoulder, was a well received reward for his job well done. Sure, a good portion of it would go to that old drunk, but there would be enough left over for Lee to pay his rent and afford at least three days worth of groceries. So yeah, he was in a good mood. Though his face didn't exactly display his mood well. It was still stuck in that uninterested, stoic expression that made people assume that Lee lacked any emotions at all. But, despite his mood he kept a careful watch over himself. Oshibana wasn't known for its law abiding locals. It was a dangerous town, one that even in his tired state kept Lee on his toes. The setting sun and twilight colors meant that night was soon approaching, and Lee was going to need to find a inn to stay for the night. Hopefully they weren't too expensive, but he was confident he could find a reasonable deal. As he walked along the sidewalk, the sudden sound of approaching footsteps caught the males attention, causing him to turn and instinctively reach for his weapon. "You! Boy! You look like a lad who's used to fighting! Am I wrong?" A voice suddenly, literally, shouted. Lee blinked, looking down at the pudgy old man who was coming up to his chest shouting up at him. He made sure he had a grip on his bag, but Lee was still rather confused by this. He couldn't but stammer out a response of "Y-yes, I...assume so?" The old man seemed content with that answer, making a "harumph" sound with a nod and waving Lee to follow him. "Got something I need you to do then. Jewels in it for ya! I know you fighter types love your money." he said, leading Lee down another road. "What is it you want, exactly?" Lee asked as he followed behind the senior citizen. The man looked back, a incredulous look upon his face before shaking his head. "I need you to deal with a snake." That got Lee to blink. A...snake? The old man wanted Lee to handle some little snake? He shook his head, sighing slightly. "Listen, sir, I am sure you're more than capable of handling some li-" He began, but was suddenly cut off with some more shouting "No you blasted idiot! It isn't some damn little garden snake. You think I would ask some punk like you for help if it was?! It's the size of a damned vehicle!" Well, that got Lee to blink. He wasn't too fond of being called a punk, be he sure made himself look dumb. Lee just decided to remain quiet as he was then lead to, from what he could tell, was a tavern of sorts. Well...okay. Lee noticed the old man standing there, arms crossed and looking at Lee expentingly. "Go get rid of it, kill it, don't care. So long as it's gone! Do that and you'll get paid." Lee sighed, pushing in through the doors and stepping inside to deal with whatever snake was inside. But, inside, he saw a typical bar. People sitting at tables, having drinks, but he noticed the look of discomfort on their faces. He blinked, deciding to scan the tavern for this snake. |

Xiayu had been in this Oshibana town tavern but that wasn't her real reason for being here. One of her father's contacts had gotten in touch with him for a job out in Oshibana and considering how elderly her father had become it was Xiayu that had been sent. Of course there had been a few complications with the completion of the job which had forced the half-snake to wait a few days and that was exactly what had brought her to this to this tavern. Having slithered in roughly an hour ago she ordered herself a bottle of nice wine and a glass then found herself a private out of the way table in a corner solely for the sake of getting some peace and quiet while she enjoyed her purchase. Xiayu had been planning to simply drink her wine in comfort and not cause any trouble but it seemed the locals and other tavern goers didn't think the same. Many of the other patrons had spent the majority of the evening glaring at her with fearful eyes but Xiayu had just ignored them so far; the ignorantly fearful were not worth her time especially if they assumed she was a threat based on her appearance. Had the locals just assumed she was dangerous, but not a threat, based on Xiayu's appearance then she would have had no issue with it whatsoever; after all every mage was dangerous to some extent however they were only a threat if you made them one. It was as Xiayu lifted her glass to her lips and took a gentle sip of the deliciously rich red wine that the doors to the tavern swung open. From her seat the half-snake had a direct line of sight with the tavern's door and so she saw Lee enter. Being as fun loving and flirtatious as she was Xiayu tended to have an eye for attractive people regardless of their gender and sadly this new arrival, Lee, was neither. Sure he had a well chiseled face and defined features but his stoic expression and the general blandness of his facial structure was not exactly a turn on for the half-snake. From the doorway, or any part of the tavern that had a line of sight to Xiayu's table, one would easily be able to see the large purple mass that was Xiayu's tail. Earlier in the day, roughly an hour ago, when Xiayu had arrived she'd rested her large tail on the ground beneath her table however due to its size, the fact it poked out from beneath the table and its colour meant it was rather easy to see. "That's the snake sonny! Over there!" The elderly gentlemen, and I used the term gentlemen very loosely, gestured accusingly towards Xiayu would seemed to be one of two people in the tavern, excluding Lee that is, that wasn't having an internal panic attack. The only other person in the tavern that had no problem with Xiayu's business or presence in the tavern was the bartender which made perfect sense. It was bad business to drive away customers because you simply didn't like their appearance. |

A confused look on his face, Lee looked from the woman sitting by herself at a table to the old man followed by back at the woman. Looking at her, Lee couldn't help but admit that she was a fair looking lady. A well taken care of face fitted with fierce red eyes, atop of which rested a waterfall of purple hair, she appeared a woman whom attention was often directed towards though whether it was with well intentions could be questioned. But, as Lee looked on in confusion he noticed what it was that caused the man such fright. What Lee had mistaken for a dress was, in fact, the lower portion of her body. A collection of scales being the surface of a massive limb comprised of pure muscle. A tail. A big tail at that. A mixture of black and white, with cracks of gold amidst the colors. Lee blinked, now realizing why it was that the old man was so frightened. What was her species called again? It was either Naga or Lamia, correct? Or was Lamia the ones who were lion women...Lee wasn't sure to be honest. Naga sounded better, so he would go with that. After looking at her, Lee failed to notice any sort of "trouble" she was causing. While her appearance was definitely different, she just seemed to be a woman enjoying a drink. Lee wasn't the sort of person whom would simply go over and cause trouble against someone whom wasn't actually doing wrong. He wasn't a street punk, after all. He fancied himself a Knight, although he wasn't officially one yet. "Umm...sir.." Lee began, turning his attention back down to the elderly citizen. "What are you just standin around for? Go get rid of it, damn it!" He shouted, drawing the attention of the other tavern visitors. "Before I go do that, let me just ask...what exactly did she do?" He asked, raising one of his eyebrows as he did so just a tad bit. The old man blinked, looking up at Lee incredulously. "What do you mean "what did she do"? Look at it! It's a god damned monster! We can't be having...snake things sharing space with normal people like us! Do YOU invite goblins or wyverns into your home??" He shouted back. With that, Lee now understood the problem. With a sigh, and a shake of his head, Lee realized he was dealing with an old racist. "Okay, let me put it like this then. I'm a Knight in training, and it's my job and code to uphold the peace and safety of the people." Lee explained. "Well no shit! Go uphold the peace, as you put it, and get rid of that monster!" He shouted back. "Let me finish. What I mean by the peace and safety of the people that means all of the people of Fiore. Whether man or woman, adult or child, white or black. I'm not going to harass a woman just because you don't like the fact she has a tail. Take your money and go." Lee spoke back. One thing to note, though, was that unlike the clearly angered old man...Lees voice never rose. It remained calm, collected, and controlled. His was a professional air, a demeanor befitting one whom wished to become a Knight. Protecting the people was something he would be swearing himself to do. Whether or not she was a snake person, she was still a citizen of Fiore. The old man stared at Lee, his face growing redder than a tomato before storming out the doors, shouting more obscenities and calling Lee a "monster lover". With a shake of his head, followed by a sigh, he looked over at the woman for a moment before taking his gaze away and looking at the chuckling barkeeper. "Nice speech." He remarked amidst his chuckles. With a soft smile Lee approached the bar, sitting down on a stool across from the tender whom washed out a glass. "It seemed better than just telling him to shove it, you know." Lee replied, setting his traveling bag down by his feet. The tenders chuckles continued, shaking his head as he did so. "Ah, fair enough fair enough. Still though, Rickerts a racist old bitch. Thrown him out more times than I can count for harassing people who're either different colored than he is or just different." the tender explained, putting down his cup. With a hushed tone Lee asked "He wasn't right though...was he? The lady over there hasn't actually caused any problems...has she?" The tender shook his head "Her? She's minded her business and drank herself. People just get nervous around snakes. Human conditionin, you know." Lee nodded, content that he hadn't made a mistake. "So. What can I get you anyways?" The tender asked, eyeing Lee curiously. The man blinked, thinking for a second. "Information about the town, really. And a drink would be good as well. Something cheap, though, not really looking to get buzzed tonight." Lee replied, placing some jewels on the counter. Enough to cover his drink and some talking money. He didn't like parting with it, but he felt this was the best way to get his questions answered. Taking the currency, the bartender began pouring Lee his drink as he asked "So then, what do ya need to know?" "I'm just looking for the most inexpensive inn in town." Lee replied. "Livable or not?" "Preferably livable." The tender nodded, handing Lee his glass of alcohol. "Try the Mad Moms Inn. It's three blocks away. Weird name, weird owner, but it's decent. Stayed there myself." The tender explained. Lee nodded as he walked away, leaving the young man to take a drink from his cup alone. The bitter, stinging, taste of the cheap booze woke him up slightly. Swallowing it with no problem, Lee sat his cup down and retreated his attention back into his head. He would drink for a bit to relax then head off to find that Inn. Of course, that was if nothing distracted him during that time. |

Xiayu just smiled politely at Lee as he stared at her shooting him a sly wink as if to say that she didn't mind being looked at. It was true that she didn't think Lee was the most attractive individual around but he was still male and the half-snake couldn't deny that she liked male attention. Of course there were plenty exceptions to that rule and one of them was the racist old sod that was currently barking with Lee. With a knowing smile on her face the half-snake watched the argument between Lee and that old man take place. It seemed that, after failing to make Xiayu leave the tavern and putting all of the other patrons on edge, that old man had decided to try and wave some jewels around to hire a poor sap into helping him. Sadly for him the person he hired turned out to be more than a simple sheep. As Lee sat down at the bar Xiayu had to admit she was growing fond of the knights despite being a member of Grimoire Heart. Lee was the second knight that had worked to try and put the fears of the people at rest and while that was great there was one thing it didn't change: Xiayu's utter lack of respect for racist fools like the old man that had tried to hire Lee into booting Xiayu off the premises. Despite being slightly drunk the half-snake's acute hearing was just as good as it always was and so she listened in on the conversation between Lee and the bartender. From her eavesdropping the half-snake learned that Lee there, not that she knew his name yet, needed a place to stay for a while. Despite being a dark mage Xiayu was a generous soul inclined to helping those that had helped her out in the past such as, you guessed it, the knight in training. Moving her powerful tails the half-snake downed the last of her wine from the glass and moved out from her seat. She slithered silently towards Lee's back in a way that could, at best, only be described as predatory. Despite the predatory way in which she was moving, which was really just how she moved naturally, Xiayu had no intent of actually inflicting Lee any bodily pain or harm. Once she was close enough the half-snake coiled her tail around Lee tightly and moved her face in front of his before winking. "My my..one racist fool and one white knight to balance him out all in one day? Hora hora..aren't I lucky? I hear a certain knight in training is in need of a place to stay for the knight and lucky for him I'm feeling generous. I have a two person room in one of the nicest hotels in the city. You're welcome to share it." She uncoiled from Lee and slipped down onto the stool next to him. The half-snake used the full length of her tail to pick up her now empty wineglass and wine bottle then place them back down on the bar. The bartender had been nice to Xiayu as well so she decided to bring her bottle and glass over to make his job a little bit easier in form of thanks. "So knight in training what's your name? I feel I should be on first name basis with such a lovely fellow. Mine's Xiayu Serpentera. Rather a coincidental name given the tail hm?" Speaking of said tail it was currently resting on the ground, coiled up, around Lee and Xiayu's stool. As much as the half-snake loved her tail she had to admit it did get rather inconvenient at times such as when she was trying to sit down in a chair or on a stool. The bartender chuckled as he scooped up the half-snake's glass and empty wine bottle. He placed the glass in the sink to be washed later and threw the empty bottle into the recycling with was a good thing to see. Not everywhere in Fiore believed or enforced the concept of recycling so it was nice to see this small little bar out in Oshibana town did especially considering how Xiayu often recycled a lot of the alchemical ingredients she used well she recycled the ones that she could recycle but more often than not once they were used they were used up. One thing the half-snake was curious about was why a knight in training was here and not in Chrysanthemum undergoing training. "So what's a squire like you doing here of all things? Aren't your fellows holed up in Chrysanthemum?" Xiayu was aware the knights had outposts in other cities but the knight academy was in Chrysanthemum. |
