"We got this in the bag now," Syeena said to Emily as they ran back outside. As they ran Hex fluttered next to them, keeping up as she flew with her magical black wings. "Hex's magic causes bad luck for her enemies, causing them to really trip up. With him under that spell, he isn't going to be so hard to beat."

The cat flashed a grin of her own. "Aye! This cat is in the bag," she quipped as they got a good distance from the house.

At that time, there was a crash and thump as Free ran out of the house, acting a bit more clumsy than usual. He had debris on him from both the bookshelf and clutter from the hallway, a picture frame around his neck after he crashed into a wall. He skidded to a stop, seeing them running. "Grrrr! You won't escape," he said inhaled, preparing for another howling blow attack like before.

He let out a howl and launched the twisting cyclone-- but it was going a bit too high as it would grace just above them, missing them. Still, Syeena kept low as she ran and threw a card she exquipt at his direction. The moment it struck the ground near his feet-- Syeena was gone!

She had teleported, once more close to Free's flank. She immediately swing a fun up and delivered a kick to his face. The kick diverted his howling blast further up, just missing Hex as she was airborne. After which, Syeena swiftly swung another kick to his face, and finally ending it with a snap of her left arm, punching him in the cheek.

She soon flipped back, gaining distance after her three-point attack against him. Despite her looking dainty in build, she was skilled at fighting hand to hand as well as weapons if needed. After the beating, Free cracked his neck back a bit, shaking his head and removing the picture frame that had been stuck around his neck. "Hey, don't be shy, sweetie. I like it when the ladies play rough. After all, I am immortal," he replied.

"Hm... so your into THAT kind of fun. Didn't figure you for a masochist," she teased, smirking. "Still, immortal or not, I would imagine this might sting a bit..."

She raised a hand and snapped her fingers.

KABOOOM!!!

The card she had thrown seconds ago was none other than one of her Major Arcana cards-- the Emperor. The card's power ruled over fire, and naturally produced an explosive charge that would deal a lot of damage to an unprepared enemy.

The fires were hot and would blow apart any other normal person. However... "Yow! Oh, hot! Hot! Hot! Whoo! Whoo! *Pat pat!* " Free remained in tack with the exception of blackening to his fur and clothing. Flames burned on him which he attempted to put out.

It left a good opening for Emily to attack as well if she wanted. He might be 'immortal' but he certainly felt the pain of attacks.

Syeena could only smile as she prepared her next attack and hopefully the final one.

In the face of all of this power, Emily could really only manage to feel jealousy. It was the kind of destructive impact that she craved, but her ambition outstripped her ability to fulfill it. In many ways, she was simply too focused on the acts of wanton violence and destruction that she perpetrated. It left her little room for the time and effort that it would take to become truly powerful. Dreams of power were no good unless they could be supported by actual power. However, for now, she still had the desire to inflict a little damage.

The ground under Free’s feet softened as her earth magic went to work. He would be standing in a soupy mire of mud now and it bought her the time that she needed to streak forward at a run. The werewolf was immortal but Emily wanted to leave a scar that would remind him that he could still bleed. As she ran past, Blood’s Tear lashed out and sliced a deep gash across his face. The pleasure of feeling the blade sinking in was intense for the crimson-haired girl. She proceeded past and turned before sprinting clear of Free.

As she ran, she shouted backwards to Syeena, “Whatever you’ve got planned, do it now!”

She was well clear of the wolf and was happy to be clear. Most of the card mage’s powers seemed to have flashy and dramatic effects that weren’t worth being too near. It would only result in injury to Emily and that was something the redhead did not favour.

Free really was walking into their attacks now. He was clumsy before but now he was just unlucky as he literally stepped into Emily's mud trap and was hit by Syeena's fire card. Hex's buff was not just making him slow and inaccurate, but unlucky in every sense of the word. "Oh, crap! Not this again! This is worst than stepping in dog--"

Emily's shout soon was the signal for Syeena to take action. She smirked at Free, knowing well that he wouldn't be likely to escape after this. "You're right Emily. Time to finish this," she said, a wicked gleam in her eye. At that moment, she spun about, magic radiating from around her as she conjured a new card. This one glowed with a dark aura around it as she brought it forward, her dancing motion almost aluring-- some even sensual. "Teloc Vpaah! " she chanted, speaking the enochian language of angels of demons-- translated loosely as 'Wings of Death'.

At that moment, the cards swirled around Syeena in a dark aura, her previous clothing vanishing upon her, once more giving a sensual appeal of Syeena being half naked. The cards and a glow of dark magic swirled around her, obscuring her more revealing traits that made any men drool like a dog.

Free was no exception as hearts flashed in his eyes and nearly went out of his head. "WOW! I REALLY like this spell! WHOOO! " Free howled, clearly liking the strip tease. Typical.

Syeena, still clad by only the cards around her, grinned at him. "If you liked that... then you're gonna love THIS," she said as she raised her arms, of course the cards moving in place where need be. As she did, the sound of a bird's caw came into earshot.

ANd there they could see it, forming above Syeena. The black magic like shadows gathered into a single form, becoming a large raven shaped creature with pitch black body and wings, marks of orange showing on its body like tattoos and in place of its eyes. It let out a caw as it spreaded its wings and took flight. This was the power Syeena had conjured.

The Power of the Arcana of Death.

The bird cawed and flew right for Free, stuck in the ground. The lustful grin on his face faded as he saw the bird fly right out him. "Oh fuc---"

BOOOM!!

The impact of the bird caused a sudden burst, and became a shockwave of darkness, a dome of shadow pushing outward in all directions that felt like an ill wind of a storm. It shook the ground and air, spreading out that would very much knock over Emily at least from her nearby distance.

As the spell ended and the darkness ended, Syeena's 'ritual' ended. Catching the card from the air, she held the death card and the cards glowed once more, replacing her previous outfit back on. It was a technique taught to her by the Umbra Witches. Part psychological distraction, part ritual to invoking far stronger powers.

"Seriously, Syeena," Hex spoke. Looking up as Syeena joined Emily, she saw the cat was now on the roof of the little cottage. The cat was near a second story window with an awning and potted plants nearby. "Stripping while in front of a little girl. Have you no shame?" the cat replied sarcastically. Syeena gave the cat a grumpy look and sighed.

At that moment, they could hear a groan from inside the dustcloud that had formed after Syeena's darkness attack. They looked to see the shadow of the werewolf-- and soon he stepped forward. He was clearly worn out. An attack like that-- no , both fire and darkness attacks would of torn normal men to tatters. Free was still in one piece but with a few scratches that were slowly healing and the burns from earlier. He slowly stepped towards them. But there was a good sign. He was slow, tired and was huffing and puffing from the exhaustion. He might of been a swift healer, but he clearly had expended a bit of endurance to just uphold those attacks.

Syeena rested with a hand on her hip, keeping Emily behind her. "I... I'm not done yet... I'm Immortal..." he said, clearly trying to keep in the game.

At that time however, Hex was watching from above from her perch upon the house. At that moment as Free was making his way closer to below her, she saw the nearby Geranium plant next to her. A cat-like smile spreaded on her face as she took a step on all fours to the plant. "Ah, the old Geranium to the cranium," she purred as she used a paw and tapped on the edge of it. She pushed more, till finally the plant and pot began to tip. "Whoopsee!"

*Whistle*

CRASH!

The pot smashed right on top of Free's head, as if all that damage before was not enough. There was a moment that Free looked stunned, and then-- he suddenly fell forward flat on his stomach with a thud. He let out a groan as stars, bones and moons rotated around his head, indicating he was clearly knocked out.

Syeena blinked, then looked up to see her feline friend above. "Nice job, Hex," Syeena replied.

"Naturrrrally," she replied with a purr-sound and licked her paw, tidying up her fur a bit.

As Free now laid before them, Syeena looked to Emily. "Good job, to you as well. Now lets tie him up and get him to answer our questions." she said.

Emily smiled more broadly than she had any right to smile. She circled free slowly and held her hands out to Syeena as she asked, "Can I please, please tie him up and make him talk? I mean you can help but I'm pretty good at making people - or werewolves - squeal. I mean it isn't like I can kill him if I torture him a little bit."

In that moment, the redhead seemed more like a young, innocent girl than she ever would otherwise. There was a disturbingly child-like excitement in her eyes as she fingered the sharp edge of her black dagger and thought about all of the tantalizing ways that it could be used to get anything that she wanted out of the werewolf. She was on the edge of slipping into the throes of a bloodlust that would end all reason. If Syeena gave her the go-ahead, she'd carve this furball up five ways from Sunday and not think twice about it. His immortality only made her thrill greater.

She paced in a circle around Free and smiled as she said, "I bet I can make you scream. You think you're a big tough wolf but I bet you'll be crying and screaming by the time I'm done with you."

The crimson-haired girl paused and stood regarding Free. She was beginning to get impatient with Syeena now but she had to resist the desire to do something stupid that would result in her own injury.

Syeena rolled her eyes. This Emily girl was indeed crazy at times. And people thought she was crazy being a willing witch. Hex too shook her head, her witch's hat tilting over her eyes a bit. "Just tie him up for now... leave the interrogation to me for now, sweetie," Syeena replied, trying her best to push the limits of the talk she could for the child. She may not be sweet but indearing all the same.

After Free was tied up, he was more or so awake, and now they could interrogate him. Only one thing was very clear-- they had to know what he did with Grandmother, and then they could figure out what to do with the mangy werewolf.

After Emily tried to scare him, Hex hopped up on the werewolf's chest and her claws digged into the 'shirt' that he wore to hold her in place. "Alright, fleabag-- you better tell us what we wanna know or I am gonna make you a scratching post," Hex replied, clearly doing her hand at interrogation.

Syeena joined the fray as she calmly walked over, a hand on her hip as she looked down at Free. Naturally, Free looked up at her. "What have you done with Grandmother. I swear If you killed or eaten her--"

Free jumped at that. "N-No I didn't eat her. Come on, that's disgusting. I didn't kill her either. I just locked her in the basement till I was done here is all," he said.

Looking back to the house, Syeena realized she had to check. "Emily, look after him. Hex, look after Emily," she said as she quickly ran back for the house.

Hex looked as she ran, her fur on end in irritation. "Hey! Wait a minute," she whined in a cat-like meow, " Why am I always the one playing babysitter!?" Of course, Syeena ignored her comment and kept going.

Syeena ran back into the ruins of the house and soon saw the door that led to the basement nearby in the hall. She quickly opened it, seeing it was dark but saw a person inside. "Hello! Grandmother? Are you alright?" Syeena shouted, treading down the stairs to see if she was okay.

"Oh... hello there, dearie," the old woman said. She was dressed in dark green and white dress. She looked like your typical medicine woman but she didn't seemed frazzled or scared. Perhaps her old age affected her sense of the encounter with Free, but it was good she was not hurt or traumatized as Syeena looked her over. "I was waiting for you. Did you come here from the city? I would love to make you some tea and cookies. "

Syeena sighed, glad to see the elderly woman was unharmed. It seemed Free didn't really wanna hurt her at least. "Come on, Grandmother. Let's get you out of here and rest. I can handle things," she said kindly as she led the elderly woman up the stairs slowly and towards the room that was still in tact despite the scuffle.

Syeena had quickly cleaned up the general area as the grandmother rested in the study in a rocking chair. Syeena had made her a cup of tea for her, despite her offer. Syeena had to admit, she was a very nice woman. Asking to be excused, she went back out and talked to Emily and Hex.

"Grandmother is just fine. I don't even think she remembers what happened... thankfully I guess,"Syeena told Emily and Hex.

The werewolf Free perked his head up at the news. "So um... could I go now? I promise to be a good boy, really!" he asked in a meek tone, despite having moments ago been trying to attack them.

This was the closest that Emily ever came to feeling disappointment, but she managed to push it aside. She knew that perhaps carving up an ally wouldn’t be the right thing to do so she said, “Ah well! I tried anyways. You go ahead and do whatever you need to do, Syeena. You probably know best in this situation.”

Acting was something that had been a necessity for the redhead to learn. She realized that her “impulses” weren’t really socially acceptable so she had learned to mask them and protect herself against too many people wanting her head after she’d done something that they considered dangerous or threatening. Now she pretend not to have just asked to torture Free as she said to Hex, “You don’t need to think about babysitting me, I won’t do anything at all. I just get funny ideas sometimes!”

When the witch had returned, the crimson-haired psychopath looked at her inquiringly after the werewolf had posed his question and then asked, “So should we let him out? I mean he was trying to damage us seriously! I’m not sure that I’d want him wandering around behind me. He might accidentally get stabbed or something. I don’t want to cause any accidents.”

Secretly, of course, she wished that the werewolf would do something if he was set free, but she had to tamp down her homicidal tendencies for now. Perhaps there was a larger goal at stake here anyways. She relaxed and let the situation unfold as it would.

"SAY WHAT?! " Hex shouted. The cat glared at Free as she pawed the ground. "You think we are just gonna trust you and throw you a bone?!" Hex did love to throw puns around.

Syeena looked between Emily and Free, clearly trying to understand the nature of their situation. "The mission is more or less complete now that we know she is okay. I gave her some tea and helped her clean up and things. She was very grateful. Emily, she did offer some cookies if you wanna have some." Syeena offered, letting the little girl know what was there. "AS for YOU," SYeena now addressed Free, glaring at him angrily as he was now tied up. "Why in the world should we let you go? You have terrorized the girls strolling here at night, attacked an old lady and pretty much tried to kill us with your antics. "

At this point, Free perked up with optimism. "Oh, come on! I didn't mean any harm! I didn't kill anyone. They just usually ran away whenever I wanted to date them, so I had to get creative. Really! I didn't wanna hurt anyone. I didn't hurt the old lady, did I?" he argued.

Syeena didn't show any consideration physically but in her head, she knew that Free's attacks and efforts were non lethal at that point. "YOu promise to leave the woods and never stalk any girls coming here again? " Syeena asked.

Free nodded his head almost like an actual dog again. His tail was now wagging as if happy. "Yes, yes! I'll be a good boy, promise! I'm as loyal as a golden retriever. Please? " he said in a pleading tone.

Finally, Syeena sighed. A sign of her consideration.

"WHAT?!" Hex shrieked, her fur on edge. "Come on! Let's just make him into a throw rug instead!"

Syeena ignored her cat companion as while Syeena was a dark mage-- she was not without compassion. A lesson that Emily could learn from. Being a bad-ass dark mage didn't mean killing senselessly. There were far better ways to mediate things without resorting to violence all the time.

With a flick of her wrist, she drew one of her throwing cards and threw it right at Free. There was a slice right beside him, and the ropes suddenly dropped. Her card sliced right through the ropes that were tied around Free. Free looked down, seeing his robes have been cut. At that moment, steam or smoke emitted from his body as his form shifted again-- becoming the man version of Free from before. With a lean back and a hop, he flipped back to his feet and stretched out his arms and neck out.

"Thanks, a lot. I promise I'll won't bother them again," he said honestly, bowing his head to Syeena. "Though... part of me wants to be bad now if you're the ones who are going to come after me again," he said, clearly using that moment to hit on Syeena after all of this.

Hex then let out a cat-like hiss, showing her small teeth behind her cat like maw. "Get lost before she changes her mind, ya mangy mutt!" Hex shouted, tempted to claw his eyes out.

"Okay, okay," Free said, and quickly turned to leave. With a single bound, he hopped into a nearby tree and jumped again. He moved like tarzan through the trees, leaving the house behind and vanishing into the forest. "Making like a tree and leave!"

As he vanished, Syeena let out a big sigh of relief. "Glad that is over," she said. Turning to Emily and Hex, she smiled at them. "Good job, you two. Ready to head home?" She asked.

Emily wondered why Syeena thought that she’d actually care about the old woman’s cookies, but it seemed like something that she ought to respond to so she said, “Oh? That’s very kind of her but I think that my stomach’s still too unsettled from all of the stress. I’m glad that she wasn’t hurt!” There was earnestness creeping into the redhead’s voice and she hoped that her act of caring was at least slightly convincing. Acting really did take an awful lot of energy.

Hex’s sentiments were much more in keeping with what Emily was feeling and she chuckled and said, “Well he would make quite an attractive rug at that. However, I guess he didn’t really do anything that terrible so we can’t exactly justify it. Still...a girl can dream.” There was a lot about the Exceed cat that Emily liked. The small furball had something that the crimson-haired psychopath actually found to relate to and that was a very rare thing indeed. She smiled with as much actual emotion as she was capable of mustering.

She watched Free bounding away and said, “I hope that wasn’t a mistake. He seems kind of unreliable to me but I guess you know best, Syeena.”

With this mission done, Emily felt a sense of boredom returning to her again. She would stick around with her partners just so it didn’t look weird and so she agreed, “Yes! Let’s head back home. I think we’re done here.”

Several hours later...

After the mission and the long trip, Emily, Hex and Syeena returned to the Grimore Heart guildhall. They had received their payment from the agency that had hired them and went home. Syeena was relieved she could help Grandmother, especially since the Umbra Witches knew her well. But now Syeena and Emily could rest now. They were in the commons area of the Grimore Heart HQ, located underground of the main city. IT was not her ideal relaxing place, but it was the guild after all. She sat at a table, her back laid out on the chair and her legs stretched out on the table. Hex was on her lap, curled up and purring as Syeena held and petted her.

"I'm so tired and hungry... Can we get some fish?" Hex mewed, her ears twitching.

Syeena sighed, and waved for one of the guild waiters, stationed to deliver food for the guild members. "Salmon for my cat friend and a cold glass for me," Syeena asked, to which the man soon went to fetch.

As they were all resting at the table, one of the guild officials, a man with an eyepatch and elegant demeanor came up to Syeena. "Excuse me, Ms. Fateweaver. I have a request for you," he asked politely.

"No more missions, today, sir. I'm beat and I don't care," Syeena replied with her sarcastic rebellion.

The man ran a hand through his hair and cleared his throat. "That's not it. I simply wanted to inform you of a development. Since you have had such good results mentoring Emily, I felt I should inform you we have a new guild member and we hoped you could help show him the ropes for a while," he asked.

Fighting the groan in her tone, Syeena sat up and lifted Hex off her lap onto the table. "Well, as tiring as babysitting is, I suppose I can help out for a while." Syeena replied in a cool as ice demeanor. "Who is the newbie?"

"WOW! This place is great! Hey, there any snacks?" A boastful eager voice stated. The very sound of the voice, caused Syeena to turn and Hex's fur to stand on end.

"You gotta be kidding me..." Hex meowed with a sense of dread.

On the far end of the room, it was indeed FREE. The same werewolf they had fought and dealt with hours ago! He was eagerly looking around, even sniffing the area with his keen sense of smell. His gaze then came to the man who showed him in and finding Syeena and the others. "HEY! There you guys are!"

Syeena had a look of shock and outrage on her face. "Wha-- What is he doing here?!" she shouted at the man.

"THIS ISN'T FUNNY!!" Hex meowed loudly, "Why is that pervy werewolf in here?!"

As Free approached, the man introduced him. "This is Free. He came about an hour ago. We deemed he had potential and felt he should be considered for observation and membership. He will be of great use for our goals. " he said.

"You're serious...?" Syeena said, not liking the fact she had to take care of Free, the same menacing dim-witted werewolf she had dealt with before.

Free could see Syeena's hesitance but he pushed to get on her good side. "Daw, don't worry about me! I told you, I'm loyal as they come. Besides, you left a great impression on me, know what I'm saying? If Grimore Heart gotta be great if a girl like you is in it!" he said, not really grasping how a dark guild worked.

"This isn't a request, Syeena. This is an order," the guild instructor indicated. "You do have a responcibility to your duties here in the guild, i will remind you. We are curious by his abilites and since he said he knew you, we figure you can'keep a leash on him'. " he said, working the puns.

Syeena felt like she wanted to crawl into a hole right now and hide. What cruel twist of fate this was. "Grrr... fine, I'll do it," Syeena agreed, turning away and putting an arm on the table, her chin resting against her fist.

"Alright!!" Free cheered happily. Without hesitation, he slid into the booth beside Syeena and swung an arm around her in a friendly shoulder embrace! "We're gonna have so much fun, right?" he said, smirking.

Hex had a sour look on her face as she saw Free wrap an arm around her friend. "Just terrific... " she pouted and covered her eyes with her paws.

"Hey, no hard feelings about before, right? Let's be friends," Free said.

"Move your hand two inches lower and I'll cut it off," Syeena retorted, only causing the macho werewolf to laugh.

The very notion that she was being “mentored” struck Emily as funny. It wasn’t something that she’d ever found interesting. She’d never been one for learning anything from people, but tended to seek out knowledge for herself and force feed it into her mind. The more she thought about it, though, the more she realized that if she truly wanted the kind of power that Syeena possessed she might actually have to submit to learning from someone else. Once she had the power, she’d be able to do what she pleased and that was what mattered.

Her reverie was broken by the voice of that damnable werewolf. She couldn’t believe that as ancient and venerable a guild as Grimoire Heart would allow someone as questionable (and irritating) as Free into their ranks. Surely they had to be delusional? However, she was glad that it was Syeena that was being left to deal with the wolf rather than her. She glanced across at Hex and said, “I agree. What are they thinking letting the likes of him in? I mean, I could understand using him as an experimental test subject, but letting him join seems like a step too far.”

However, she did enjoy Syeena’s sentiments about removing Free’s wandering hands, so she said, “I’m wishing you good luck, Syeena. I do believe that you’re going to need it with the pervy wolf. I guess I’ll just hang out with Hex for now. C’mere Hex, come sit in my lap!”

Emily wasn’t usually one for petting animals but somehow it seemed like an appropriate gesture at this point in time. She was finally feeling like she belonged in Grimoire Heart.
