Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Cleia nearly jumped out of her skin when she felt the hand on her shoulder. Like a prey which is happened on by a predator suddenly, she froze, her eyes saucer-shaped, staring ahead into the darkness. The voice that spoke to them didn't sound menacing, but there were always people around who could not be easily predicted. Taking slow deep breaths, she calmed herself, though she could still hear her heart beating in her ears. Yuurei did not seem as worked up as she was, and he even answered the man calmly, with a chuckle.

"Good thing I didn't go screaming off..."

She glanced at Yuurei when he asked if she was okay. "I'm fine, thanks. Just a little shaken up, that's all."

She looked at the man who crouched between them, and she could make out his relaxed grin in the gloom. She felt a bit miffed that he was still acting so relaxed and cordial, after scaring her out of her wits like that. He didn't even try to apologize. How annoying of him. She held the man's wrist daintily with her two fingers, and pushed it off her shoulder.

"I don't like too much intrigue, and I think your friends have wasted enough of our time here. Since I'm guessing you're with these guys, you might as well just tell us whether we're getting our map back nice and easy, or not. As it were, without this turn of events, we should have left this town a long time since," she addressed the man in a calm but stern, reproving tone...

...and the man raised an eyebrow at Yuurei's question. "Why am I talking in low tones? That's because I like the way Tom and his pet are dragging on over returning the map. Tom is really a mess when he's distressed... hehe. Though, I suppose you're right. I should inform my friends of your arrival. They don't even know I'm not with them now... except Bro. Bro knows lots of stuff. I guess he's been onto you guys the moment you stepped in here."

The man straightened up and stretched. "Oh, and don't worry about your map, kiddo," he said to Cleia. "You'll get it pronto. But let's introduce you first to the rest of the gang, shall we? Oh, and please, don't be scared of us or anything. We're the good guys here, promise!"

Yuurei had heard her words, which reassured him not to do anything for the time being. He was happy that nothing had happened to her, but he couldn’t help wonder what the man was going to say, or do. It was quiet for a bit, but Cleia was quick to speak as he was waiting for the man to say something as well. He could only smile with what she said because she wasn’t happy, but at the same time she sounded demanding on wanting her stuff back. He understood how come she was like this, but he didn’t think she as a person would be like this. He just stood quiet wondering what the man would do now that she had spoken up before he could even release a word from his mouth. He figured he would get prepared for a fight if need be, but he wasn’t too sure right now.

The man had spoken up again, which was finally; he heard what the man had said and was surprised on what he heard. There was another guy there who could tell they had approached this place. He was sure it was different from how he knew they were there, but it didn’t matter. And this guy, was he so fast, or was his magic weird enough that he could be in two places at once without them noticing. He sighed as this probably could be worse than he imagined. He kept still though as he didn’t want to cause any trouble due to the fact that he was overthinking things. That was when the man had moved his hand to his side and off of Yuurei’s shoulder. The tension that was surrounding his body had been relieved, which was good, but he knew something wasn’t going to go as plan.

The man that was behind them wanted to introduce them to the people who were ahead of them. He didn’t want to do that, but they probably would have to fight, if he had refused. He was trying to avoid that, if it could be. ”I guess we can say hi to your friends, but after that we want the map. It wasn’t cool that your friend would steal from us, but to make us late to leave this town is something not even I find exciting,” he looked over to Cleia and sighed. ”You got nothing to worry about,” he was trying to reassure her that he would protect her if it had to come to that.

Cleia was used to people referring to her as a child, but even teenagers never really liked to be called 'children'. She was sure it had something to do with her size, but she would overlook it. She was being careful of not wanting to seem too hostile, lest a fight broke out. Be that as it may, she was not ready to act too reticent and patient, so that if possible, as little time would be wasted here as was necessary.

Cleia smiled at Yuurei when he assured her of his protection, and she gave him a nod. The smile would probably be lost in the darkness, but he would be able to make out the movement of her head. Since Yuurei had agreed to go and 'say hi', she of course, would tag along. It wasn't like there was any other option anyway. Yuurei seemed like a pacifist, which was something she was grateful for. Some other folk would opt to try throwing their power around, and everything would degenerate rapidly. With the way things were going, there might not be a fight after all, provided these guys, according to the man here, were actually the 'good guys'.

She straightened from her crouching position and looked at Yuurei. Since he was the stronger one, and she was technically relying on him to protect her, he would have to lead the way...

..."Splendid! Splendid! We'll have this misunderstanding behind us in no time," the man said, clasping his hands together in delight. "And I'm Flick, by the way. That's what everyone calls me. Pleased to meet you. I'll walk on ahead now. You'll see there's nothing to be worried about."

He walked on ahead of Yuurei and Cleia, into the wide clearing where the other three were gathered, with two of them still bickering. He clapped his hands suddenly and announced: "Well, people! looks like Tom's in luck, and his 'unprayed' prayers have paid off. He actually got followed."

Flick gave a merry laugh, while the other three shadows turned to face them. Even in the darkness, one of them was very tall, at least two full feet taller than Cleia herself. the short one was there, and there was another, about average height.

"Lights, please!"

There was a clicking sound, and two lachryma lamps flickered to life. When Cleia's and Yuurei's eyes had adjusted to the new lighting (if Yuurei was affected by the light), they would discover that this basement looked like some sort of mission room, with maps and charts. There was the hooded thief, who shrank back slightly, a nervous looking man who was dressed in long robes, and a swarthy giant who wore a hood of his own, leaning against a sturdy table with his arms folded. He stood at his full height, then gave a bow.

"Good day, and sorry for all these inconveniences. I guess it would be polite to exchange names and pleasantries. Please, call me Bro."

The maps on the table all seemed to have markers pointing to various locations all around Fiore, and among them lay Cleia's map.

Yuurei was glad she was okay with going in this route. He wouldn’t have wanted it any other way for the time being. He figured if this were going his way, and he was alone, then he would have just turned this place upside down and left nobody standing. He heard the man speaking louder than he had done so originally. He figured there was no need to speak quietly now that things were settled. He figured something was off with all of these guys, but what else was he going to do about it. He heard the man’s name, but didn’t want to talk to him in that manner. He just watched as this Flick guy walked ahead of them as he figured that he would be able to snap his neck right now, if the chance had given itself. Still, he held back because he decided to see in what direction this would go in.

He was only angered deep inside because this man had such a delightful manner, but the guy who stole from them was a thief after all. Why be associated with someone who stole all the time? He figured it had to be that they stole from people from this town only and not from tourist. That would be smart because then they wouldn’t be stealing from someone who could destroy their operation one day. He rubbed the back of his head as he wasn’t enjoying the thoughts that were going through his mind. He didn’t want to be right on that, so he just sighed and followed the man to the group of men that he could smell from before. He just stopped after a while as he was able to see the silhouette of the others now that were there.

He figured it was a safe distance, if anything bad were to happen. He did look at this Flick man and knew he was the fastest of them all here. That just meant he would be the one that would have to be taken out before any of them, if something horrible were to happen. For now he just stood quiet and heard the man talk to the thief, which was named Tom. They were allowing them to know their name, which he figured was also something bad for them. The lights had been turned on and with that he was able to see the people who were around the room with him. This was better for them, but he could tell that this room was something of an operation room. He observed the small group that was here and he smiled because he could take the lights out at any time and then from there take them out with the use of his nose.

He looked over to the man name Bro, which he figured would be the leader of the group. It was how this Flick man had addressed him before, it just made it seemed like he was someone they looked up to. ”The name is Yuurei. What’s with all these maps on the table and the markers?” he had to ask curious now. He was just going to take the map and leave, but they had opened up in their home revealing everything to the pair.

Cleia stayed behind Yuurei as the Flick guy led the way into the wider basement. it was even harder to see here, though she could make out three silhouettes, besides Flick, and Yuurei, whom she was standing behind. So, there was a total of four people in this gang? Although the Flick guy seemed cordial enough, one couldn't be certain of these people's motives or characters. At least, she felt comfortable having Yuurei around. If things went to hell in a hand basket, there was a fighting chance they could make it out. Then the lights came on.

Cleia's eyes adjusted to the brightness, and she was able to see them more clearly. The Flick guy was of a slender build, but even through his clothes, one could see that he was no stranger to physical exercise. The second, the dwarf thief, the one called Tom, still hid beneath his hood. Cleia mentally smiled to herself. Today, she was not the shortest person in this place. The third looked familiar, very familiar... but before Cleia could openly identify him, the last member of the group spoke. By far the tallest and heftiest of the group, his size and mien alone set him apart as the leader. He seemed to have good manners... for a thief.

Cleia waited for Yuurei to finish speaking, before she introduced herself.

"I'm Cleia."

There was nothing more to say at that point; most of the talking would have to be done by the thieves, so as to explain themselves. Yuurei had asked the question that was on her mind; anyone would want to know what these maps were and what was being marked on them...

... "Yuurei, Cleia. Pleased to meet you. I'm sure Flick, being the blabbermouth that he is, has already introduced himself. The other two are Tom and..." he chortled with amusement, "... here's where it gets funny: Tom. If we want to make a distinction, we just say 'short Tom'. Heh." Flick, being his usual cheerful self, waved when he was introduced, while the two Toms shuffled uneasily, obviously uncomfortable in the presence of the young mages.

Bro looked at Yuurei, then at the table. "I'll have you know that we're not thieves, even though it may look that way. We're uh... you could call us freelance mage detectives. But so as not to waste your time further, in answer to your question, have you guys ever heard of the Pieces of Eight?"...

... Cleia had been peering at Tom, the taller Tom, since she was sure she'd seen him before... and then it clicked.

"Hey! You're the one that sold me the map!"

Yuurei was waiting for an answer from these guys, but it felt like things would be silent for a bit. Cleia had introduced herself to them, but that was it. He just looked around though as he couldn’t help himself. If he had to do something, then it would be best that he knew his way around the place. He looked over to the leader of the group now. He was talking and he had introduced everybody again. There was of course one person who had not been introduced through all of this. He figured they would never get a name, which he was cool with that. He just wanted his question to be answer and well he figured they would get the map already. The longer they waited here, then the longer it would take him to get Magnolia. He just heard the man say another name, but it was also Tom.

There were nothing weird about that though as that name was something easy and common. Still, he didn’t seemed like a bad guy, but there was always a catch. His eyes had returned to the leader of the group as he was wondering what he would say now. He was waiting for the answers that he had questions about now. He had defended himself and the group he was a part of. They weren’t thieves, or so he said. What Tom had done before was something a thief would do in a heartbeat, but he kept his mouth shut for now. He just heard the man as he was asked if he knew about the Pieces of Eight. He had rubbed the back of his head because he had never heard of that. He figured it was something they were either affiliated with, or they were looking for this Pieces of Eight.

He was about to say something, but heard Cleia speak up. He looked over to her and it seemed like one of the men that were here was the man who sold her the map. He chuckled slightly because he figured this was merely a coincidence right? He shook his head as he figured that the man would soon tell him who or what the Pieces of Eight was. ”Nah I never heard of this Pieces of Eight. What do you guys have to do with this name?” he asked wondering what Bro would say. He looked over to the Tom who had sold Cleia the map. ”If you had sold her the map, then I can assume you were the one beating up the smaller Tom for stealing it?” he also asked curious to why he had gone into doing such a violent act.

Cleia tried to keep a straight face as she waited for the taller Tom to give a convincing answer. Glaring at him seemed justified, but since Bro had said that they were not pilferers, and she wanted to give them a little benefit of doubt, she would pull a straight face, but watch him intently, as she expected his response.

The 'Pieces of Eight', as Bro had mentioned, was something she had never heard before. Of course, like Yuurei, she was curious and passively interested in the subject, but since Yuurei had voiced her mind and asked the same questions she would have, she let him do the talking and remained silent...

... the two Toms cringed at her 'accusation', and the taller one wrung his hands together in distress, though he occasionally cast baleful glances in the direction of the smaller Tom. "A very terrible misunderstanding, Miss, I assure you. It's all the fault of this bungling idiot here. You see, I am a cartographer by profession, and I have been aiding my colleagues here to find the Pieces of Eight. The map I sold you, your map, has an important clue to solving our puzzle. It is a special map, and was never intended to be placed among the merchandise. However, the Tom fool here did just that, and in my ignorance of such an action, I sold it to you. Of course, I was very wroth with him, and I ordered him to return the map. I expected that he would walk up to you and explain himself, but no! He had to cause all this trouble."

The smaller Tom, obviously unable to take the vituperation, began jumping up and down and yelling in a very fast stream of words how he had been put in a pinch, and that Cleia would never give up the map since she thought that they wanted to rip her off, and that he was going to return a map to her after taking it, and other sentences that need not be documented. In his ranting, his hood fell off, and Cleia and Yuurei would see that this smaller Tom was a gnomish man with a white beard and glowing eyes. His face and skin, showed, however, that the snowy color of his beard was misleading, for this Tom was a young man himself.

Bro sighed and shook his head as the two Toms looked for all the world like they were going to begin a fistfight, then he lifted one hand, opened his palm, and brought the hand down on the table. The noise was like a thunderclap, and a hush fell over the room.

"That's better. I don't think our guests would be amused watching the two of you slug it out, so can it. We've already said we'll make it up to the girl, so let's leave it at that." Bro looked at Yuurei and Cleia with an apologetic smile.

"Sorry about that. Now, about the Pieces of Eight. You see, there is a belief that a certain treasure exists somewhere in Tessera. Without a guiding map, it is all but impossible to find. Now, your little friend's map is one of eight different Fioran maps that together, will show an intelligent mind the location of the treasure. We have long since been finding and retrieving the maps involved, through legal means, of course (haha), and this one, which has so far been our most illegal venture, is but the fifth. Our prize is the Eye of Purple Moon... you haven't heard of that either, have you?"

The Dragon Slayer was waiting for people to speak and they had done just that. The taller Tom explained the situation and why everything had happened. Yuurei was surprised that any of this happened, which brought them into it. He hoped that they didn’t have to be drag into this, but that never really worked now. Still, he listen as they were looking for the Pieces of Eight. It was still something that he didn’t know about, but figured their leader, Bro would answer that very soon. He just looked at over at Cleia and then over to the smaller Tom. This guy could talk and fast as well, but the hood fell off and he noticed this wasn’t a kid. That was interesting, but if these people were looking for this Pieces of Eight, then it must have been something truly important.

That was when the slap on the table had come down and it made Yuurei sighed because he could hear the ringing through his ears. He looked at Bro as he was waiting to see what he was going to say. This had better be interesting because he wanted Cleia to get her map back, so they could be on their way out of this dungeon. He did, however, quiet the two Toms from arguing and possibly starting another brawl between the two. He figured the taller Tom was the stronger of the two, but the smaller one could have possibly be skilled in stealing, or in seizing the opportunity in a situation. His eyes only met with the man in charge with the operation now as he was waiting for the explanation that he had asked for now that he had to be introduced to them.

Yuurei listen to the man’s story and while he continued to listen, it only allowed him to deduct that these guys were treasure hunters. They were interested in finding something new and be the first to discover things. It was interesting indeed and the map that Cleia had was one of their prized maps. He wasn’t sure they were getting these maps the right way, but he figured they weren’t really stealing from the people in this town. It was what he was worried about and was going to do something. Still, there was a treasure in Tessera that he honestly didn’t know about. He had been there a few times, but he had never searched for something like that there. Still, their quest was for something called the Eye of Purple Moon.

Yuurei had never heard of it, so he figured he would just answer him, so he could answer that too. ”Nah I never heard of the Eye of Purple Moon. The only treasure I found is my power and that’s it,” he chuckled as he wasn’t a treasure hunter, nor was he truly someone who could find clues and figured them out and gain access to treasure. He looked over to Cleia as he wasn’t sure if she knew about it though. ”Do you know anything about this Cleia?” he asked figuring she didn’t want to answer them, so he would ask nicely in their stead.

She had done a bit of traveling of her own, but since she was actually searching for something, or someone, her searches had limited her to some particular areas of Fiore, and Tessera was not one of them. True, she had heard of the city, with its wonders and ancient ruins, and how treasure hunters flocked there to nail themselves a large fish, but she had never been there herself, and personally thought that whatever anyone would find there now would just be otherwise worthless trinkets, what with the number of people who flocked there, searching day in, day out.

She raised an eyebrow slightly at the Tom squabble, and was a little surprised to see that the 'smaller' Tom was not a child, but an adult-ish fellow. Watching the two about to go for each others throats made her instinctively play a mental gamble. She would put her money on the... smaller Tom, of course. First of all, she had to hand it to him, he was nimble, very nimble. And he was fast. So, unless the bigger Tom had such on his side, he might not emerge the victor. Besides, she would put her money on the smaller Tom out of solidarity. Why would people just want to quickly think the larger people were stronger than the smaller ones? That could be termed as a racist...

Her thoughts flew back to the present as a loud crashing sound caught her attention. It was Bro, trying to get everyone's attention, and he succeeded. He then began explaining about the Pieces of Eight, which seemed to be a sort of guide to some other thing called the Eye of Purple Moon. Cleia just watched Bro as he spoke, with a passive interest, because she had never heard of such things before. Neither had Yuurei, apparently, since he asked her if she'd heard of any such things. She decided to reply vocally, so that she would not appear too cold.

"No. Never heard of such things. I'm not really into treasure hunting, so you can say my knowledge of artifacts and special maps is limited. I wonder, though, how you have managed to acquire these maps using 'legal' means. Just curious, if you don't mind," she said, directing the last part of her statement at Bro...

... Bro laughed at Yuurei's response. He seemed to admire it, though. "Your only treasure is your power, eh? Heh! That's my kind of guy. Well, that aside, the Eye of Purple Moon isn't really known in many circles, so I'd be surprised if you knew much about it. As to how we procured these maps, aside yours, why, we bought them! The previous owners just thought they were normal maps, we offered to buy 'used' maps for a slightly higher price than normal. Who doesn't want to make a little extra coin these days?"

He beckoned to Flick, who walked to the table and picked two maps: both of Southern Fiore, though one was Cleia's map. He handed them to Bro, who said, while offering them to Yuurei and Cleia, with a courteous bow:

"Now, you know what we're after. I'm returning your map to you, although, even with all the trouble we've caused, I would like to request that you take another map and leave this one with us. I'm willing to throw in any extra thing to compensate for this misunderstanding, so that there'd be no bad blood between us. What'd you day?"

This Eye of Purple Moon must really be something worthwhile for these treasure hunters to want it so badly.

Yuurei had asked a question and Cleia didn’t take long to answer him. She was on the same boat as he was, but there was more to it. She was more interested on how they had obtain the map. It was something he was curious on, but he wasn’t sure if they would tell them the truth. Still, he kept his mouth shut as he knew things would either be cleared up now, or he could just repeat himself if need be. He heard Bro’s laughing, but he didn’t know why, but figured that the man wouldn’t keep that to himself. He seemed to have taken a liking to Yuurei. The things he said about the maps made sense, but he figured he would believe it. They haven’t been lying to them and they could have easily gave Cleia her money back and allowed them to leave.

He wasn’t told about the Eye of the Purple Moon though. That was what he wanted to hear about now that he had brought it up. Still, the man never brought it up as he was trying to give Cleia another map and at the same time he was planning on giving them something extra as well. He looked over to Cleia as it was something for her to answer. It was her money that she had spent, so it was really up to her. He just stretched his arms into the air as felt more relaxed now. His hands dropped to his sides as he looked over at the four men that were here. ”That is up to her, but I’m really curious to what this Eye of Purple Moon is?” he asked wondering what he would say. He rubbed the back of his head as he figured he would explain a bit more too why he wanted to know.

”I understand it’s important to you guys, but to go to this distance, then it could only mean this treasure is something of great importance. I mean you guys have been telling us all of this for a reason right? I figured it was because you were trying to convince her to allow you take to the map back right? Still you could have done it differently; did you want us to know that there was something call the Eye of Purple Moon out there?” he asked as he couldn’t help himself. His words were just coming out now, but he figured that this would be it. He knew that Cleia would come an answer and he would probably get some answers of his own.
