Cleia huffed as she tried to keep up with the short thief that agilely meandered its way through the bustling crowd. While her small size would permit her to dodge easily between people, she wasn't very fast. At this rate, the thief would lose her, and she could say bye-bye to her map... and her money (after all, the map was bought), of course. She suddenly heard Yuurei's voice beside her, and noticed that he was keeping up easily with her. He was obviously faster than she was, and it was very likely that he would be able to give the thief a run for its money (pun intended or no). Also, he just mentioned that he could smell out the guy anywhere he went, so hiding from them would be impossible. Cleia's eyes widened slightly and she gave a silent 'wow' as she stared at him in admiration. Of course, she had to return her focus to the chase, so that she wouldn't draw them back by stumbling or crashing into something. She had no idea what enabled Yuurei to be able to track like that; perhaps he was of mixed blood, human and something else, much like she was. Or then, it could be his magic. She had heard that magic was so versatile, and some even had the ability to alter the physical characteristics of the mages that wielded them. She soon put the thought out of her mind, anyway. She wouldn't jump to conclusions as to who or what Yuurei was, and if he felt like better explaining his abilities, he would let her know. If he didn't want to explain, it was none of her business. She smirked at a sudden idea. "I have a plan, Mr. Yuurei. At the pace we're going, he'll outrun us. I'm so sorry I'm this slow, but with you around, it may yet prove to be our advantage. We'll let him run off, then we'll follow him and find his hideout... or who he's working for. It better not be that cartographer from whom I bought the map..." Cleia wasn't usually violent, but given the circumstances, she was ready to give him a piece of her mind, and perhaps a fist or two, if he proved aggressive and recalcitrant. The pacifistic side of her, however, which was more often in control, hoped that there would be a more peaceful conclusion for both parties. "What do you think?" she asked Yuurei, about her proposal. |

Ooc: sorry about the post I did it from my phone Yuurei was quiet now they were running through the streets right. There weren't a lot of people to get in their way, which was good in their case. Still, the man who was running away from them was quick and they were not going to catch up to him with this speed. He looked over in her direction as she looked like she was surprised about how he was able to keep up with her without a problem. He just smiled as he used his nose to keep track of him right now, so he didn't get away with anything that wasn't his. He did, however, heard Cleia speaking to him right now so listened. His eyes were looking straight ahead though because he didn't want any stupid accident to occur. She knew that she was the reason why they couldn't catch up to him, but he wasn't going to say that. Instead he nodded at her idea because she wanted to do more than just get stuff back. He was impressed about this girl. There was a reason why she in Fairy Tail and this was it. It would be good if they found out, if this thief had more than just her stuff. They would be able to return the stolen good to the people who were the victims of all of this. There could be that or ever more to all this. It could be a bigger organization that was a part of this. Then that just meant this guy was one of many pawns. He didn't like that though, but it was a good idea, which meant he needed to make sure he didn't lose the scent of the thief. "That's not a bad idea Cleia it would also give us more to do if there is something bigger behind all of this. Still we can't lose his scent. he said to her. He sped a bit now as he didn't leave her behind. He was sniffing out the thief now as he was leading their pursue. He had hit a left now as he continued running. "This guy isn't that fast. Still I wonder who he works for if he does at all. We can make sure they can't do this to anybody else though. he said out loud but he wasn't sure that she could hear him. He was in front of her of course. Still, this guy wasn't stopping right now, which cause him to think that they were going to keep running until they were on the other side of town. That would be bad, if he missed the train leaving the area. |

Yuurei was approving of her plan, but she hoped that it wouldn't really be a big or complicated case. The major reason was that the more time they spent, the sooner their train out of Oshibana would leave. That would mean another wait, till a suitable train came around again. Fortunately for the two young mages, the traffic on the street they were on was low, allowing them to run for the most part without having to dodge or evade obstacles. As she ran, her mind began to do calculations of its own. This scenario was most likely more that just stealing a map. Like Yuurei had noted, some other things were most probably involved. For one, who on earth would bother stealing a map in broad daylight, without trying to do it secretly? Such a person was either desperate, or very, very stupid. And if such a one was desperate, what was pushing him... or her, or it to such lengths? Yuurei was running ahead of her, so she followed him, now praying that he would announce that their quarry had stopped, because her lungs felt like they were right about to collapse. Still, she managed to keep up the pace. She couldn't ask him to stop for her; already, he had accommodated her slow speed, and so she couldn't add any extra inconveniences to it. She tried to regulate her breathing and focus on Yuurei's back... ... and as though Cleia's silent prayers had been answered, the creature stopped, after a series of banking in and out of sideways and adjacent streets. It looked over its shoulder to ensure that it had lost its pursuers, and then it ducked into a side alley and monitored the streets from an otherwise hidden location. Satisfied that it had not been followed, it shuffled down the alley to its end, down some steps and into an abandoned basement. The lights were not very bright, and almost completely concealed in the shadows stood three obscure forms, humanoid, but difficult to tell in the dim illumination. |

Yuurei had finally come to a stop; the man they were chasing was no longer running, which meant that their chance to capture and return anything that was stolen was commencing. He just looked around making sure his nose wasn’t playing with him and he smiled. He looked behind him to see that Cleia was still with him. It looked like it was hard for her to run for that long, but he was happy that she had kept up with him. ”He finally stopped. I guessing making sure he couldn’t see that we were still chasing him worked,” he sniffed out the scent as it was leading into one direction. He moved over the place and moved into an alley that would have been hard to see, if you were just minding your own business, or running around the area. It was a perfect place to hide and he walked through the dark, mysterious, and creepy area. He slowly walked through the alley checking for the scent as it was definitely pointing this way. When he got to the end he looked around and noticed that the man wasn’t around, but his scent was to the left of him. ”Well he isn’t here, but he is still moving about,” he noticed the steps that led down a space. The young mage looked back at Cleia and knew that he should be the one to go in first, but made sure she knew that. ”We don’t know what is down there, but I am sure that there is something like a trap waiting for us. So I will go head down first and you should trail behind me,” he nodded at her. He looked at the place as he could the dimming lights, but understood that was a sign of something bad that was about to happen. He took his first step on the staircase and heard it squeak, then after that he made a few more steps and more noise to it. He looked down and noticed that there was nothing to be worried about. He couldn’t see much in the basement, but noticed that there was probably a path that would lead to something else. Still, he could smell the thief, but knew that if something stopped them here, then he would lose the man he was after. Still, he hoped that there was only a narrow path and the man’s scent would be lingering through the area. ”I should light this place up, but I’m not sure I want to see what’s down here,” he thought to himself as he waited for Cleia’s arrival. |

Just when Cleia felt like her lungs would shrivel and fall into her abdominal region, Yuurei stopped. She pulled to a halt beside him, one hand on her knee, the other instinctively holding on to his jacket, as she tried to catch her breath. She barely heard what he said, but she knew that he was trying to tell her that the thief had stopped. Boy, was she grateful for that. Her darkened vision (from the strain of the chase) brightening, she looked up at Yuurei and nodded to show that she was still with him. She straightened up and followed him quietly, as he walked into the rather hidden alley, glancing about frequently to ensure that nothing was moving in the shadows. Yuurei, with his exceptional tracking abilities, showed no signs that they were being tracked or followed, and so she allowed her tense muscles to relax, just a bit. He suggested heading into the thief's den first, just in case there was any danger. Cleia nodded again, feeling slightly ashamed of herself that she had to be protected by someone. But that was the truth; he was probably way stronger than she was, and putting herself into the line of fire was just plain dumb and without any form of advantage. Cleia was, for one of those few instances, grateful for her small size. Being lighter than Yuurei, she barely made any noise on the steps. She squinted into the gloom, trying to make out any shapes or forms, though it was really difficult to do so. Her heartbeat was slowly getting faster, due to trepidation; the thief was somewhere in there, and would most likely respond with hostility on finding out that he had been traced to this place. She steeled herself for what would happen next... ... and somewhere within the dark basement, much further away from the stairs, three figures hunched together, talking in urgent voices. One of them seemed angry, and Yuurei's sharp senses would inform him, albeit not clearly, that he was chiding someone else for stealing the map. the thief produced the map and muttered something incomprehensible, to which the first voice suddenly shrieked in dismay and began lamenting: "Fools! Fools! You've ruined everything! We have to return that map. Do you know from whom you stole it? What if they are dark mages?" Yuurei would hear the sound of scuffling, and a squeal of pain. |

Yuurei looked around, but couldn’t see anything. He had noticed something that he didn’t before. He was so focused on the thief that he didn’t get the scent of the other people who were down here as well. He was surprised to know that there were more people down here, which he the guy who stole the map wasn’t working alone. That wasn’t good news because it meant he was going to have get into trouble with more than one person. He shrugged his shoulders as he figured he would be a man who listened and see if anybody would start talking. He wasn’t sure if anybody could see him, but he sure couldn’t see anybody at this point. The smell of these four people were close together and he didn’t know why. He could tell one of them was the thief, but what was going on here. He just got a little bit closer as he knew that Cleia was behind him. He could smell her too, but he didn’t go into any real details into that. Instead, he focused on the scent in front of him. That was going to lead him in the right direction, and they would be able to get her map back. Yuurei stopped right in his tracks though. He could hear one of them scolding the thief, or what it sound like what they were doing. They were smart and careful people, but it seemed like the thief had done something that had screwed things up. He kept his guard up, but soon he could hear the noise of someone in pain and the sound of a small beating happening. He moved closer as his eyes adjusted to the dark scenery down here. He couldn’t see very far in this darkness, but he could see the person he was with. He figured when they got a vision of these people, then they would also be able to see them as well. ”I don’t think he is alone here Cleia,” he whispered to her as he shook his head at the thought of seeing something disgusting. He rubbed the back of his head as he knew something would go wrong here. ”There are four of them there including the thief. Do you want to go say hi to them?” he asked her. He wasn’t sure, if she wanted to stay hidden a little longer to see, if there were more people or make their entrance now. He just stood where he was as he was hoping they didn’t come this way. It would only reveal their location and that the thief had been followed at the same time. |

Unlike Yuurei who could sense a lot of what was going on down here, Cleia was quite in the dark as to what was transpiring. She actually paused when he alerted her to the fact that the thief was not alone. He had probably regrouped with his gang, and who knew what other diabolical plan they had cooking? She sort of wished they were out in the open, but that would mean that they would not have the element of surprise on their side, which was currently working for them. Cleia's eyes widened in the darkness as Yuurei suggested that they go and 'say hi'. With a frown, she shook her head vehemently. "No, no. That can't be safe. I think we need to know whether they're going to be hostile, so that we can perform the preemptive strike, if need be. The problem now is finding out whether they are going to be hostile." She paused. Yuurei was actually the one who was better suited to taking that decision. He was the stronger of the two, with obviously more experience. "What do you suggest is the wisest course of action, Mr. Yuurei?" If he still wanted her to decide, she was up for waiting it out a little bit more, so as to learn as much as possible from the small group gathered here; who knew, they could even start fighting and beat themselves up enough to make fighting them a lot easier. Which seemed like that was what exactly was starting to happen... ... and with more scuffling sounds, yelps and grunts, even Cleia, without dragon-heightened senses, could tell at at least two of them were fighting. Suddenly a sharp bark cut through the darkness and silenced everything: "Will you cut that out?!" Silence reigned in the basement for a while. Then the new voice continued speaking: "It's simple, really. Tom said you stole the map from a little girl, right? So, return the map to the lady, apologize and take your leave. If you need to make it up to her in cash or kind, do so." The new speaker did not bother so much as to keep his voice down; he spoke freely, like he wasn't afraid of anything in the world. |

Yuurei couldn’t see her reaction, but it was safe to say she wasn’t agreeing with that plan. He didn’t say anything as it was just a suggestion and he wasn’t going to do that unless they were caught. Still, he listened to her, which he understood where she was coming from and decided to wait and relax for the time being. He just didn’t mind what they were going to do, but it didn’t seem like things were going to be in good terms with these guys. He looked over to her again as she had asked him about what they should do. He had suggested something, but it wasn’t the wisest choice that he could think of. He figured they might as well continued on with how they were doing things. ”It was your idea, which was why I’m okay with doing anything. We could just simply watch them and wait for something to happen,” he whispered. The young man had said, but figured he would answer her properly. ”Still, I think we should see what they are up to. If we stop then now, then they will recover and do whatever they are or were planning to do. I’m okay with just being laid back and see how things turn out,” he of course made sure he whispered these words to her. His attention had shifted to the area where the mysterious people were at. Someone had joined the group now and it seemed like things had gotten serious. They had stopped fighting and were paying attention to the man now. He had heard the man’s words and was actually surprised to hear them. It wasn’t something you would hear from someone like this, but it seemed like he was offering to return the item back. The Dragon Slayer blinked a few times as he didn’t expect that and things would have turned out bad, if they had rushed in there and started a fight. He just rubbed the back of his head though as he didn’t know what to do. ”Well that man isn’t a bad person, but I don’t think we should just appear in front of them and saying that we will be accepting the thing you stole back. They probably don’t want this place to be found, so if they know we know about this place then things might turn out for the worse,” he warned her, but didn’t know how they were going to do this. He figured they could hide and wait for the thief to run back and look for them. |

To watch and wait and find out what the clandestine group was up to seemed to be the best option. If they had any ominous plans, then Yuurei and herself would be able to get wind of them, and if possible, nip them in the bud. Cleia was surprised with the new turn of events: the introduction of the authoritative figure. She could hear him clearly, because his voice was naturally resonant, and the silence in the basement served to make hearing things a lot easier. "And here I was, thinking that we'd be in for a fight," she said in a low voice, so as not to be overheard by the group in the basement. "Still can't be too prudent, though. I think you're right. Let's wait a bit more, and hope that they'll leak out some of their plans." A thought came to mind, and she wondered whether Yuurei and herself would be able to beat a hasty retreat if the basement skulkers decided to come back out into the light of day. Well, it wasn't likely they would come running, unless something suddenly started chasing them, so the concept of escape would not be too difficult... ... and there was a brief hush, after the new speaker had spoken. Then a voice spoke, most likely the thief: "Eeh... so I'm just to walk back to the girl and return the map?" The authoritative voice sounded unmoved, replying after a scoff. "Pray they forgive easily." "O-okay. I'll go along now, and..." "Fool!!! Do you think she'll wait for you where you stole it from her? She could be anywhere around this town. She could even have left." This voice belonged to the very first voice Yuurei had heard; the one who was chiding the thief. "That would be a relief..." "No, it won't! You'd better pray you find her. Our reputation is at stake here." There was a wicked chuckle. "Looks like you've got a lot of praying to do today, and the sooner you start..." Yuurei and Cleia would feel a subtle tingle on their skins, and out of nowhere a voice spoke, literally in their ears, as two arm dropped rather casually, and in friendly fashion, on their shoulders. "Well, well, aren't we the splendid detectives here? How long've you been here, I wonder? Can't see you guys too well with all this darkness. Sheesh! Bro never listens when I tell him to improve on the lighting!" The person who spoke lowered his tone to match theirs, so that the basement skulkers would not likely hear them. To Yuurei's surprise, he would discover that one of the smells of the basement skulkers had suddenly changed location, and was now right beside him. |

He was looking over in the direction where the four were at. He couldn’t see them, but he knew where they were. Still, he looked over at Cleia who had spoken up to him. He had though the same thing and honestly he wouldn’t have mind. It was something that the Fairy Tail mages in their guild were usually known for. He didn’t know why, but it had usually ended up like that. He just shook his head as he could only shake his head at these thoughts. It was funny indeed, but he had heard her agreeing with him, which allowed him to smile a bit. Still, things were a bit too quiet right now, which he didn’t know what was coming next. The scent of these guys didn’t get closer, so he didn’t have to worry about hiding right now, nor did he need to worry about them running back into the opening. Instead it seemed like this moment of silent was to allow the thief to think about what he was going to do. He just focused trying his best to hear everything clearly; Things were being quite hard now; the opinions through the four were different. Well only three had spoken so far as it seemed like one of them had been quiet the whole entire time. Still, the person that told him that Cleia might not have been in town anymore had a point. It was a logical sense that he wouldn’t be able to find her that easily, if of course he hadn’t been followed. Things were going smoothly, but his eyes widen when he noticed that one of the scent that he had in his nose shifted into a different location. He didn’t move to the direction of it, but he wasn’t actually enjoying the fact that he was surprised. He felt his shoulder being touched, and knew that it had been done to Cleia. He was ready to do something and it would probably be to protect the girl he was with. Still, the man’s voice was in a whisper as well, which confused him. He figured he would have alerted the others, or they probably already were the moment he had disappeared from where he was before. He chuckled lowly after what the guy had said and didn’t do anything for the time being. ”I guess you can say we been here for a while. I mean I would probably have made it dark down here anyways, if there were lights around,” he whispered to the man as he looked slightly over in Cleia’s direction. ”Are you okay?” he asked her wondering, if he was holding anything against her, or anything suspicious. ”Why are you talking low anyways? You not going to tell your friends you guys have company?” he asked. |
