It was slow going to an extreme measure. The need to rush their escape was clearly there, but it seemed they would have to move at a crawl in order to achieve anything. This was annoying at the least, and excessively stressful at the best. There were so many variables, so many ways for this to go wrong so quickly. She made sure, once they made it passed their first obstacle, that of the sleeping guard, that she whispered to each of them what would be waiting ahead, which exit they would take, and the fact that silence as well as swiftness was of the utmost importance. She instructed her most closely resembling lookalike that she looked like she could wield a sword, which brought a smile to the woman's face. So she was one of the first to pick up a weapon when they made it to them, and the others found small things, like a dagger, or a small ax, with which to defend themselves. It took a little time, and a lot of silent movement, but Snow had a boon in the form of her new set of keys. Every level of the tower had a door which locked, and she took advantage of this 3 separate times, giving them all a further barrier between themselves and their former guards. Once the third door, large and heavy and oaken, was shut and locked tight, she breathed a bit easier. Their doorway was only a few meters up now, not far at all. As they rounded the first bend in the stairs, the banging started. Apparently they had been found out, and just in time they had locked the last door. Now the sound was reverberating through stone corridors, and half the women in her charge were panicking. Not very helpful, and she realized belatedly they should have probably thrown all remaining weapons somewhere else. They might possibly be able to cut through at least part of the doors with ease given what was left behind. She rushed them now, keeping her face calm and passive, though none of them were stupid enough to believe themselves fully safe just yet. The door they sought was close now, and the sounds of splintering wood behind them were a reason to move even faster. They made it out, just, after Snow had tried three different keys in the lock. Once on the outside, she firmly shut and locked the door behind her, and turned to see that the moon was shining brightly, leading them toward the forest the back of the tower bordered on. It might have been simpler to disappear into the town itself, but it would have also been dumber, given the town. They started down the steps, catching a glimpse of movement in the window of the tower above. Now they were sticking to shadows, moving from tree to tree and into the woods, headed toward Snow's original destination. Hopefully, they would be there before dawn, or at least close. So she hoped. But now with freedom before them, part of the women were already showing signs of weariness. She would have to hurry, if they were to make it before morning. But she sensed camping was in her very very near future. |

Despite his growing time spent within Fiore over the past two years, Ranth had seldom made a concerted effort to explore new and out of the way places. Amusingly, the last time he had done so he'd ended up meeting his current lover and the very same woman he was now trying to find and rescue. As a result, he wasn't well versed on the geography of this area, much less the names of the towns and cities around it. He didn't know the nooks and crannies that smugglers would use to take their goods (in all their forms) from place to place without being seen by merchants or knight patrols. So when Ranth asked Alexandria his question, it wasn't rhetorical, he was relying on her knowledge as a local. "Well there are a number of little known smugglers routes in the area, but they all go through... Oh." Alexandria froze as her own personal puzzle fell into place and Ranth nearly grabbed her and started shaking her to wring the rest of her unspoken sentence from her pretty little head. "You've probably heard of High Noon as the capital city of corruption", Alexandria said slowly, "But it's Dandelion Sector that's the most corrupt city on the face of Fiore... and that's where all the smugglers in the area have to go through to take anything illegal. You could say they have a monopoly on being a criminal empire and it's historically been deemed a lost cause by the government", she explained. But Ranth was a little more familiar with the place than Alexandria may have guessed, though not personally but through the stories of one Artorius Sidonis who happened to call the place his home away from home and the place where he'd grown up into the man he was today. So Ranth was well acquainted with the reputation of the place and its people. But if that's where Snow had been taken, then that's where Ranth would go even if he had to tear the place down brick by brick. "Well then", Ranth said as he got to his feet. "Looks like we're going to Dandelion Sector Vince" "You're going alone?" Alexandria asked skeptically, but made no move to stand up or impede the pair from leaving. "There's a saying in the east that says five Tartaros mages equates to an army and five Tartaros mages equates to one Grimoire Heart mage", Ranth said slowly and he saw a faint grin appear on Vince's face as he recognised where Ranth was going with this. "I'm familiar with the saying, but what does that have to do with anything?" Alexandria asked through narrowed eyes. "Who needs an army when you've got two Grimoire Heart mages?" Ranth said with a wink as he left the room with Vince chuckling right behind him and leaving a speechless room in their wake. "To Dandelion Sector then?" Vince asked casually. "To Dandelion Sector", Ranth confirmed as they marched out of the estate. Edited by Fafnir Rakesh, Apr 22 2015, 01:10 AM.

The forest after dark was not a scary place for Snow. The same could not be said of most of her companions. The tower was fading into the horizon behind them, and ahead, the sheltering arms of the trees opened wide to hide them. They went slowly, but the terrain was uneven, and full of things to trip them up. Branches hung low and caught unguarded faces; roots stuck up here and there to stop forward progress. Not to mention the night sounds which plauged the place, and made those unused to being out after dark cower against one another in fear. They were in far enough that the fear of being readily sighted, even from the tower, became moot eventually. And it was about now that people started to complain. It was cold. They were hungry. The night was dark and full of terrors unseen. Couldn't they stop, just for a bit? Just until dawn became clear in the sky. They had slept for a week straight almost, and freedom was at hand, and here they were, complaining about said freedom. Snow sighed. "And if we stop and our pursuers find us?" There were a few murmurs from the group. Of course it didn't take overly long for one to pipe up. "But we locked them in, and you have the keys. It will take them hours, if not days, to hack through all three doors. Besides, we out number them. And we're armed." Snow didn't quite have the heart to tell them that most of them would likely only end up hurtimg themselves. "And if they have more keys?" The girl who looked the most like Snow stepped forward, her smile soft, even as she held her own weapon properly. "I'm Mokra, as I haven't properly introduced myself. But, I would say, that if we take up a patrol until dawn, switching out shifts, it would be possible to allow rest." The woman leaned forward and spoke softly for Snow's ears only. "They seem set on this. And a good leader knows when to give in to the demands of her people, and when to hold back. Of we give them this, it should keep them quiet until we are safely away." Snow nodded reluctantly, and they set about making up the camp. Not being especially tired herself, she offered to take first watch, along with Mokra. She was the only other able bodied fighter, as far as Snow could see, and she needed her in case their pursuers did show up. It would be awful, sure, and she might regret later that she had not saved the woman's strength and skill for later in the night. But regrets were for when people had time for them. A small smokeless fire was started, around which the women gathered, drawn like moths to the heat and light. They chattered, though it was jovial. And Snow almost wished she hadn't heeded the other woman's advice. It was slightly louder than she wished, as they exchanged information in those high pitched voices. An irritant, nearly, to have so many people chattering at once and throwing off her usually preternatural hearing. She stalked away a little, to better hear the sounds of the night, and if they were being persued. "I'm going to kill that Grimoire Heart bitch. If its the last thing I do." It turned out there was a spare key. And the holder of said key, which unlocked any door in all of the tower, was the mercenary who had been on the lowest level. He might have been kicking himself for sleep so soundly, but being nearly constantly drunk after night fall, he didn't feel that bad about it. He had unlocked the door a good while after the women had gone, after finally awaking to hear the pounding on the door above him, and the screaming and cursing of Skinny locked in a cell. Of course it was apparent that Marvin had started the whole mess by unlocking the mage's cell, but that hard stopped Sir from being pissed off that they had managed a clean break. They were smart. He would give them that. And now, as they unlocked all doors, and took their own equipment and started the search which would lead them to the forest's edge, they were all already dead in his mind. |

Leaving Sampaguitown proved to be every bit as difficult as the... as the... guard had... I'm sorry I can't finish that sentence with a straight face. Leaving Sampagutown was simpler than beating Snow at a game of strip poker (because Ranth always cheated and he always got away with it because he could create the face of any card in the deck and possessed the sleight of hand mastery required to do so undetected). But whilst getting out was easy, it was far from subtle... Approaching the main gate, the guards stationed there spotted them and hailed them- not unkindly- with the intention of guiding them through the gate and to the end of the enormous line of people still trying to flee the city. When the pair of Grimoire Heart mages ignored their initial shout, they repeated it (less friendly this time) and when they continued to be ignored and the man were nearly upon them, they made to seize Ranth by the shoulder to stop their progress towards the gate. But as he began to raise his hand, Ranth raised his own first and with a flicking gesture, the enormous gates exploded spectacularly, leaving the way completely clear save for the scattered debris that now littered the ground. "We left our passports in our other pants", Vince shrugged apologetically to the stunned guards as they continued unhindered through the gate and past the assembled crowd of reverse immigrants and the checkpoint guards- all of whom were deathly silent and still as the pair proceeded casually on their way and before without any apparent signal from either man, they were soon joined by their faithful steeds. "I love these horses", Ranth chuckled as he patted his black stallion before vaulting onto its back and taking the reigns. "Next stop, Dandelion Sector", Vince grinned before kicking his steed and leading the charge. It wasn't exactly a short journey to reach the city, but after a brief consultation with Vince as they rode they reached consensus that they they could reach the forest that bordered it by nightfall and then could cut through it to arrive before first light. Little did they know that they wouldn't need to go as far as the city itself to find what- or, more accurately, who- they were looking for. But they weren't the only party out searching for Snow or her new found flock and they would all reach the forest - albeit opposite sides- at roughly the same time just as dusk set in. |

They had been patrolling on and off for some time. Snow had shot down some simple game, and was roasting it over open flames with hopes it would be enough for all. "So you're from Grimoire Heart huh?" The question took her by surprise but only a little. She smiled. "Yes I am. Probably not what you expected, but there it is. A lot of my fellow guild members aren't as bad as you'd think. And then, some of them are." She gave a shrug, thinking of the labels people liked to put on things. She didn't much think that people expected a member of GH to give a damn about the well being of someone else. But, it was in her nature to give a damn. At least when it suited. Her hands were hardly clean after all. The girl...Mokra, she thought she had said, looked pleased all the same, if in a slightly surprised way. That was the end of the questions, surprisingly. She had expected to, at the very least, be interrogated about her magic, but no one said a word. Instead they ate quietly, and then seemed content to leave it at that. She didn't complain, and certainly offered up nothing. But dusk was beginning to fall well and truely, and that made the forest look more like night than dusk. The women cowered together (yes that was the only word for it) as they tried to accustom themselves to a forest wherein no one lurked but themselves to keep each other safe. Snow stood after eating, and stretched. The continuation of patrols seemed important, but the chattering had died down a decent amount. She was content to stay slightly closer this time, though she patrolled the area closer to the tower, and left Mokra to patrol around the opposite side of the forest. She couldn't know that both rescue and damnation were on their way in the same instant. Though her mind was on one. And how nice it would be to see his face, even if he drove her insane ninety percent of the time. It was still one of her very favorite faces in all of Earthland. So she sighed, and continued her patrol, mind wandering slightly as she did so. How the hell she kept managing to get stuck with people who were in need of rescue was beyond her. She was only certain that she had been screwed over luck wise. Many many times. With very few, but major, exceptions. On the other side of the forest, as the sun was sinking, it became necessary for the three men to regroup. They had searched the edges of the forest, with varying degrees of success. "I found their trail. I think." This was from Marvin, the one with the head wound. Darius looked incredulous. "No I did. It's on the western edge." The sellsword scowled at them both. "No.. I did. Its right fucking there. Straight ahead. What are you idiots on about?" And with that the three most inept people in all of the forest began to argue amongst themselves. For like thirty minutes. For no reason. Meanwhile the uh...Heroes? of the tale were closing in on the other side. And soon the peace of the forest would be all kinds of broken. |

As the sun set, the Grimoire Heart rescue team dismounted their horses and faced the forest that stood between them and their destination. "The forest is no place for horses. Especially not a fine pair like this", Vince said as he patted each of them on the nose and crooned his farewells to them. "You know... if things don't work out with Sophia... you could just find yourself a nice Mare to settle down with", Ranth pointed out as he watched his friend and guildmate go about his horseplay. "Horse are great, but there are some needs they can't satisfy... or itches that they can't scratch... or-" "Yes, I got it. I don't need one hundred and one of your analogies for sex thanks", Ranth cut him off with a raised hand. Making their way into the forest, Ranth noted that the temperature was dropping quickly with the onset of darkness and with no defined path through this part of the forest they were forced to 'bush whack' in the pitch dark with nary a streak of moonlight to guide them thanks to the thick canopy of the tree's interlaced overhead like a living roof. But Ranth and Vince weren't as hopelessly confounded by these poor conditions as others might have been as they possessed guild issue disposable contact lenses that came with built in night vision that gave them reasonable sight within ten metres. "For all his guff about the research and development arm of the guild, at least Eric and his lot managed to produce at least one thing that's actually useful", Vince chcukled as he placed the lenses into his eyes and blinked until they fit comfortably. "Sometimes I wonder if I should tell him that he's far and away the most enthusiastic advocate for all that stuff... but then I figure why spoil his fun? He's always trying to drag people down there for guided tours. I think he just wants someone else to find it as interesting as he does", Ranth agreed with a wry grin as he fitted his own lenses. "Well, I guess it's good that he has an outlet for his free time. Who knows what he'd be liable to do if he started going stir crazy", Vince remarked. "I like the guy, but he's got a few screws loose since his... growth spurt and don't even get me started on that summon of his", Vince said with a shudder and Ranth couldn't bring himself to contradict his companion. He'd seen first hand how unstable Eric could be when he'd turned on him for an instant during the Demon Inquisition. It had been a brief lapse, but where Eric was concerned a brief lapse was plenty of time to end up dead. Falling into an uneasy silence after basically agreeing that one of their most powerful and well known members was an unstable, volatile individual with an unhealthy obsession with 'not strictly legal' experimentation', they'd walked for perhaps an hour before Ranth spotted movement between the tree's up ahead and he placed a hand on Vince's shoulder to signal him to stop and pointed towards where he'd seen the flash of movement. Meanwhile, somewhere on the other side of the forest Darius, Marvin and Garen had long since concluded their argument and also received a sizable contingent of reinforcements from their mysterious benefactor that had put them up to and funded this kipping venture in the first place. Each of the men was appointed a squad leader and given ten of the finest (a questionable term in a lot of ways) mercenaries from the roughest circles of Dandelion Sector. Every one of them were veteran's of combat- many having served in the Boscan War- but they were also savage, brutish people who would pose all the wrong kinds of danger to a group of defenseless women hiding out in a forest at night. But there was no referee here to ensure 'fair' or 'socially acceptable' means were adhered to and so thirty three men entered the forest with only one goal in mind: Find the women and kill them. The men weren't idiots and they knew that among the dozen women who all looked alike one of them was a Grimoire Heart Mage and if they underestimated her they were all liable to wind up dead. But they knew that she was out there and they had taken steps to deal with a single mage... Though little did they know that soon Snow White would be the least of their worries. |

Mokra thought she heard something moving in the brush, but it went silent, so she didn't signal her fellow patrolman. If she were being quite honest, she was impressed that a member of a dark guild had bothered to actually save all of them. It was something she wouldn't soon forget, and she would, with any luck, soon be in power elsewhere. Then she would be making a point of eradicating the lord who had been petty enough to try and steal her away to steal the whole of her power. And who better, she mused, to take revenge on the man, than a dark guild where she had an acquaintance? Snow, on her side of the wood, was still slightly lost in daydreaming. A regrettable laxness in her own patrol. She thought for all the world they would be mostly safe, but she certainly wasn't going to be completely complacent. She shook her head, dispelling thoughts of her lover, and went back to the task at hand. One would think an encroaching contigent of thirty some odd men would make a sound like a herd of elephants crashing through the underbrush. One would be mistaken. These men were highly trained, at least in some regards, though rules of fair combat wasn't one of them. Aside from dumb and dumber, and the mercenary that was a part of the leading patrols, no one made a sound as they marched soft footed through the wood. It was dark now, and the fire had died down some, and the girls were mostly silent, dozing as they were. This made hearing easier, though Snow was still not using it at full capacity. It was the fact that she could sense something, almost like a net drawing tight around them, that alerted her. She still didn't have proof though, and was attempting to chalk it up to paranoia. She didn't often ignore intuition. In this case, it might have been from her need to feel she had performed a successful escape. But it couldn't last long. A cornered animal tends to know when it is cornered, and act accordingly. In this case, she eas right on the money, though she didn't yet know it. The troops of men had entered the forest from three different directions. They had yet to find their prey, but there were excellent trackers amongst them, and it would take next to no time for them to get there. Then, the three sides would be surrounded, and Snow and her comrades would be in deep trouble. With all the magic the woman possessed, she couldn't take on 33 men alone. It was simply unfathomable. Luckily, help was just about there. But they would arrive within minutes of each other. There would be little time to know friend from foe before the fight began in earnest. |

Stealthily, Ranth stalked the mysterious figure through the forest like an Eskimo hunted a baby seal. But instead of a bloodstained spiked club, Ranth had an arsenal of magic powerful enough to level any major city of your choosing. Ranth wasn't sure who might be out here, but he now knew for a fact that there was some sort of smuggling/ abduction ring running in the area there was every chance that this person was related to them somehow. Or they might have just been a run of the mill traveler, because those existed too. Signalling for Vince to follow him at a distance to keep his eyes and ears peeled for anyone else besides their quarry,Ranth would have made Snow proud as he moved quickly and quietly through the forest undergrowth like a wraith as he steadily and stealthily made ground on the stranger up ahead. As he got closer, Ranth found that he could make out enough detail through the night vision lenses to determine that the person was female with a tall, slim figure that was maddeningly familiar. Everything about her from the length of her hair to the shape of her hips gave him more and more reason to believe that this woman was Snow, but that was impossible... wasn't it? But the coincidence was too much and Ranth broke from cover behind her and placed a firm hand on her shoulder from behind, prompting the woman to jump with fright and let out a shriek of terror that echo'd throughout the forest from one side to the other and everyone from the thirty three men to Snow and the other girls would hear it and be able to zero in on the location with negligible effort. The woman that Ranth had mistaken for Snow was none other than Mokra, the most prominent of the Snow lookalikes and probably the one that Snow would most want to save out of all the girls now under her care. But would she rush to Mokra's aid at the expense of leaving the other girls defenseless, or would she take the chance to flee and save her entire flock at the cost of one? Marvin's group was the closest to the sudden scream that tore through the night air no more than a mile away according to his lead scout. "Looks like I'll finally be able to one up Darius", he chuckled eagerly as he forced the men into a swift march in the direction of the noise, their pace three times greater than before now that they didn't have to waste time looking for signs of the girls passing. "If there is a god then he's looking out for us tonight boys", he chuckled heartily as he headed the charge. The poor fool. It would take Snow five minutes to reach the pair, whilst it would take Marvin's company fifteen and as luck (or lack thereof) would have it, their course would take them straight through the place where the other girls were currently resting. Darius and Garen's companies were also on their way, but they were further out and would take an additional ten minutes before they caught up to the action. |

The scream made her jump. She was off in a flash, jumping through the middle of the girls who were sleeping, and wondering how those assholes had circled back so quickly. This woke the women not woken by the scream, and they followed after her immediately, brandishing what weapons they had as they went. The nifht night was indeed dark, and Mokra's screams hadn't exactly stopped, just been muffled slightly. So it was with more than a little surprise that Snow came to a screeching halt, blades out, and started laughing softly. "Took you long enough." She said with a laugh while lowering her blade. Ranth had apparently touched Mokra's shoulder, and startled the girl. But Snow had never been so happy to see anyone in her life. She would have hugged him, but there were too many people close by, and she didn't want to embarrass him. Plus he was surrounded by a veritable harem of almost-hers. She would have kisses him, but her lip still hurt. "You look surprised. Did you expect me to sit on my ass in a prison cell and wait for you to find me?" She smiled softly, and looked at Vince. "And you brought back up. Well done." The other women, noting they were familiar friends, had started to relax and drift back toward the fire. "You know each other?" Mokra was seemingly slightly embarassed. "Guildmates and friends. Yes." The woman didn't need all the details. "Hello Vince. Welcome to the camp of my own personal look alikes. I'm happy to see you both. We've been ...Fuck..Ow. " She dropped her blades, her wrists finally buckling under the weight given the nature of her injuries. New blood would stain the white clothe, and she would be growling her annoyance. "Sorry. We've been on the run from Dandelion." She would bend to carefully retrieve the blades and tuck them back in their proper places. Of course there wasn't much time to be actually happy one way or another. After opening remarks from either of her comrades, there would be more noises, that only Snow could pick up on. "Fuck. Someone's coming. Lots of someones by the sound of things. Hurry back toward..." But the shouting had already begun. The enemy had invaded, so to speak, and now as Snow headed back that way, she could see that the women were attempting to fight, but with uneven odds. |

Faced with a screaming woman whom he realised almost immediately wasn't the person he'd thought she was, Ranth could think of precious little else to do but to clamp his hand over her mouth to silence her. Of course, this only caused her panic to intensify ten fold ad her eyes widened and she began to try and attack him with reckless abandon. Of course, this only served to force him to restrain her further and led to him pulling her against him in order to pin her arms uselessly between them with his hand still over her mouth. "Quit squirming, I'm not going to hurt you, I just mistook you for someone", he hissed with exasperation. Funnily enough, the words of a complete stranger who currently had her helpless and at his mercy didn't seem to count for much and she instead redoubled her efforts to escape, much to Ranth's irritation. In a last ditch attempt to stop her incessant hollering, he released her and took a step back with his hands help up to show that he was unarmed and, hopefully, non-hostile. Thankfully, this seemed to work, if only because use she seemed confused and suspicious by this strange man and whatever angle he seemed to be pursuing. Did he know who she was? Was he with the men who had been keeping her hostage? Was he alone? So many questions she didn't know the answers to and she was well and truly sick of being in the dark and that had nothing to do with the fact that it was currently night time. But before another word could be spoken, there was a great crashing from amongst the undergrowth and Ranth's eyes narrowed as he prepared to face whatever was coming... only for the identical twin of the girl he'd already scared half to death to burst into their midst with blades drawn, hair wild and unkempt. But behind the dirt and grime that covered her, this time Ranth was sure that he'd found the one he'd come here to find even before she spoke to confirm it. "Well this is all very anti-climactic", Ranth said after several moments of stunned silence. "Also... more than a little strange", he added as Snow's battalion of ill equipped doppelgangers began filing awkwardly into the tiny clearing. However, the time for levity quickly passed as Snow grimaced and dropped her weapons from her damaged hands and Ranth's eyes narrowed and his eyes flashed dangerously despite the absence of light. But there was no time for questions as shouting and screaming began and Ranth had only the vaguest notion that they were under attack and that none of the women besides Snow- who was injured- was any sort of warrior. "Vince, get the ones here somewhere safe. I'll take care of the others", Ranth said ordered flatly. He would have sent Snow with him, but she'd already dashed off back the way she'd come where the screams and shouts were coming from and judging from the shrill pitch of the screams, there were more of her lookalikes there and they were not faring well at all. Exhaling deeply, Ranth steeled himself and ran towards the commotion with superhuman speed |
