Hearts on Fire It was not what he had expected, but it was at the same time... perfect. Julian didn't let any time go to waste, snatching the key from the table as he spun in his seat, hopping off and towards the first door: l5ocked, of course. But Julian had his magic on his side, and the door proved to be perfectly compatible with Julian's magic. It was not able to be unlocked by any normal key, perhaps, but at the same time, it appeared that it was not locked by magic or by any sort of activation mechanism, as the door clicked faintly as the Herme's Key did its work. "One o' three down, then." -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- It felt like he had been at it for hours, but in truth, it had only been a few minutes. Each door was opened easily enough, all of them yielding to the Herme's Key without any need for magic. Still, Julian had found several dead ends, and he could hear the footsteps of his pursuer moving through the maze, contra the thief. It wasn't going to be long before he'd be left with only the special locks, both the ones which required an abnormal key, as well as the ones which were hidden from sight. Julian continued following the left wall. He was starting to panic, a bit, his hurried pace breaking into a full-out run. He wasn't sure what Condor had been implying would happen, should he fail, but the more time he had to think, the more sinister his intentions seemed. Julian didn't know if the truth of the matter would abate his fears, or only exacerbate them. There were a lot of ways Condor could make sure that Julian didn't join Raven Tail... And Miss Red would probably assist. "Unlocking Magic: Routes REVEALED!" He jabbed the key at the wall beside him, but he had no clue if there was a hidden door nearby. Still, he kept his eyes open for the trademark purple glow. If one was within the range of the spell, the edges of any hidden or disguised passageway should give off the distinctive light. Julian craned his neck, hoping he would be able to spy the familiar sight, though anything coming from the other side of the wall would be impossible to see. Still, Julian was sure he'd be able to climb the walls, should he need to beat a hasty retreat from a dead-end. ((OoC: I was geussing since it was "at least 3 meters" tall, you meant for it to be 10 ft. Does that mean Julian would be able to scale the wall, since he's 6 ft tall? With his arm length, he'd only need about a foot of air to grasp onto the top of the wall. Or would Condor have prepared for that?)) Edited by Fairchild, Apr 15 2015, 11:19 PM.

For the longest time, Monkey and Miss Red watched with interest as Julian made his way through the maze, unlocking every door he could find, opening up more and more passageways - a necessity, given what the two of them were betting that Condor would do. Or rather, just Monkey betting, because Miss Red was too intently watching the scene going down below to really listen to the man whose mouth never stopped moving. "He's got what, maybe ten doors left, less?" Lo and behold, one of the dead-ends began to glow - the very end of the dead-end, where the wall blocking the path was. It wasn't any more than a few meters away from the key-wielding thief himself, but at the same time, something felt off. Were metal doors supposed to wobble? Were they supposed to ripple like water- Oh, nope. Through the very glowing wall/door itself a metallic hand thrust forwards, followed by the rest of the silvery body - straight through the hidden passageway, Condor emerged. "Truly a thief's magic," he uttered, a deadpan delivery that was nothing like what one would expect from a man whose body just, for a moment, went straight through a metal wall. "So, at least now we know you can get in - but can you get out?" While talking, he began to move towards Julian, the bald man's right hand outstretched towards the young man's head. Was that an illusion, or- what was that" Was Condor's arm actually extending by itself? "Hey, kid, heads up!" Monkey shouted, from the safety of his platform above them all. "I can give you a hint, but it comes at a price- and I can't tell you what it is unless you accept!" |

The only reason Julian wasn't hit by the attack was that he'd fallen on his ass. He didn't expect to see Condor come out of the door. Not to mention the manner which he passed through. The shock of it had sent Julian into a bit of a panic attack. The attack just barely missed him, whizzing past his ear as he fell to the floor. "Uhhh..." he stammered, getting to his feet, "Back in a tick, then!" He was running as fast as his feet could take him, continuing as best he could into the labyrinthine structure. He was still following the wall, but he was trying to gain some space between them, to give him some more time. The dead end before him seem poised to stop that. Behind him, Julian could hear the approaching "bird of prey." "Come ta' fink of it!" he hollered, "I might like tha' tip!" He took a running leap, boots scraping at the solid metal as he scrabbled up the wall. He just barely managed to gain purchase over the edge. With some effort and scraping, he managed to scale the wall completely. He leapt across to the next wall, having barely managed to pull himself over this second one. He landed roughly, but he managed not to hurt himself in the fall. He made his way further through the maze, not really sure where he was at this point. It wasn't long before he found a familiar sight... Or, at least, it seemed familiar... "Where the fuck AM I?!" He hadn't anticipated how bad of an idea this was. Still, he resolved to keep moving. there was no reason for him to stop now. If he found a place he didn't go, he'd know it. There weren't many doors left, though... he wondered if he would be able to find them before Condor found him. Almost on cue, Julian came to a locked door, too busy watching his back to look in front of him. After a fit of swearing, Julian pressed his key to the lock. He hoped it wouldn't be one of the special locks... |

click click click! Strange, the key didn't work as Julian continued to press it against the lock. "Didn't you say your magic opens doors for you, literally?!" Monkey shouted, from up where he was. "Well, that wasn't the hint but- anyways. Condor here is a bit of a stickler when it comes to keeping everything in order, and that includes anything he makes with his magic! And if you can't figure out what that means, uh, I can't help anymore!" But yes, there was a reason all of the edges had curves of precisely ninety degrees, every passageway had the same width, and every wall had the same height; the mage who made these, it would seem, had a thing for keeping everything in perfect order - including the very shape of his maze. Of course, there was a price to the hint - Monkey's words weren't exactly, shall we put it, private. "How rude of you, Monkey," the bald man's voice uttered, as he emerged halfway through a wall a mere meter away from Julian's current location. "That was something he had to figure out himself, now I will have to rearrange everything." Right on cue, the lock Julian was pressing his key to opened - while the environment, the walls and passageways, didn't change, it appeared that the locks on the doors were rearranged. A few once-open passages slammed shut, while others opened up. Condor, himself, moved towards the key-holder at a decent but comfortable pace, the walking speed of someone with absolute confidence in the inevitability of his magic and in his own skills. |

Julian didn't know what it all meant, not really. Still, Condor seemed determined, if not slow, in his pursuit. So, Julian rushed off in the other direction, Monkey's words racing through his head. He likes to keep things neat... orderly... Even though he didn't really understand it yet, he kept moving. In a few moments, he came up with, at least, an initial course of action. When the Old Man wanted to organize stuff, he tucked it into a secret cupboard or under a floorboard. He figured Condor might have different ideas about order. He moved quickly to the corner of the maze. His best bet, he figured, was symmetry. If he found a door here, he would move as best he could to find the next corner, and so on. He wasn't exactly sure if the hidden door he revealed before had been unlocked, or even if it was hidden again when Condor shifted the maze. He hadn't exactly been doling out the reassurances, after all. Still, Julian was sure he would figure it out. ((OoC))
