It was nice to be traveling alone again. Since Onibas, Julian and Trevor had enjoyed quite a few scraps and adventures, but it was time to move on. They parted ways, for now, but one day, they would meet again. Julian was sure that they would meet again. He was also sure that Trevor thought much of the same, although he couldn't be sure... It was hard to say how their second meeting would end up. Still, this was Julian's kind of town! He'd heard stories from the Old Man about what Trillium had become, but he had never been this far west in his life. It was exactly how he described it... It seemed like it always was. No matter if it's Mt. Hakobe, Trillium or Onibas, it always seemed to Julian that the Old Man could picture it perfectly in his mind. Despite the fact that Julian spent nearly every day living and working beside him, it seemed to be that the Old Man kept up with changes in the world. Julian found it odd, though, being as supposedly well known as the Old Man supposedly was... Julian supposed he could have a few contacts around the world who might have sent him a photo or two... supposedly. Still, it was a breathtaking place, and, apparently, the city didn't really come alive until the streetlamps came on. At least, that's what the Old Man had said. It probably wouldn't be dark enough for that for an hour or more, so Julian decided to take a stroll. There was already a fair amount of people moving about, bustling and brushing past each other. Julian figured this place must be a perfect den for pickpockets. It was surprisingly brisk, causing Julian to pull his jacket tighter around himself. He wasn't wearing his normal get-up, but rather, a black 6 button double-breasted blazer, with medium-grey slacks. Tucked beneath the hem of his slacks, dark, shined boots thumped repetitiously against the pavement. As he walked, Julian reached into his pocket... "Aw, crap." Julian had left his cigarettes in his other jacket. Still, he had wanted to check out a few of the casinos before dark... See what they had to offer... Maybe check out the Raven Tail guild. The Old Man had said it was breath-taking, and, like he had been so far, he was spot on in his description. ((OoC: Ok, so, that last line is a call-ahead, but not actually Julian arriving there. I figure he is about two streets over, at most. But as close as the next street over, so long as he is not traveling along the street where Raven Tail's front entrance is. That being said, you are free to interact with him now, since he's fairly close, or after my next post, when I will arrive there.)) |

The first thing he noticed was the sunlight. Bright, dazzling, a blast- nay, a wave of that accursed solar glow, that made his arms shrink back against his sides and forced his eyes to close once more, in a futile attempt to squeeze the light out and away from him. The man known as Monkey groaned. "Oh man, how long have I been out?" He asked aloud, only to be shocked by the sound of his own voice - weaker, and indeed, raspier, than he'd ever heard it. How did it become like this? Oh wait- he remembered. There was a fight. He'd angered someone a bit stronger than he'd expected; actually, more than a few people. He'd been in this hospital for a while now, lying low as doctors treated him like the poster child for gang violence. Making the utmost effort not to injure himself any further, the young man rose from the hospital bed, examining himself briefly to check for the worst of the wounds. "I-I can move? Good," he rasped, as he looked around the room. A brief inspection found his belongings in order on a table beside his bed; he quickly took to changing back into his customary black attire. The robe was definitely more comfortable than those hospital gowns. A few more moments to prep himself, and then a finishing touch - the young man put a hand over his face, summoning a mask to obscure his features before he walked out of the room. Eventually, he made it out of the hospital, and onto the busy Trillium streets. There was a bit of a limp in his step, that much Oami could not prevent himself from noticing; no matter, it was still daylight. As he trudged down one of the city's many shady streets, he could already see people gathering here and there - the hyenas and vultures of the city were preparing for their evening meals, it would seem. A bit of a smile crossing his lips, the masked man continued to walk along, trying to compensate for his visible injuries. "Hm, so close. Just one block more, and back home to Raven Tail..." |

Well, as far as Julian was concerned, Raven Tail could wait. Like the Old Man said, the city didn't come alive until dark, so why would the guild/casino be any different? Visiting the little establishments dotting the city would be fine, but Julian wanted to save the pièce de résistance that was Raven Tail. He ended up spending a few minutes peeking around a shop or two. It seemed like several of the businesses were bustling already, and Julian was hard-pressed to believe that Raven Tail wasn't the cause of it. The Old Man had told him of the guild often enough, claiming to be a former member. He said that the guild pretty much ran the entire city, and was responsible for most of its growth. Of course, this was more of a curiosity. He had toying with the idea of picking up a few better weapons, the blades that he was using now being too dull and cumbersome for normal use. Still, while Tooth was left in his room, Julian still had Nail strapped dutifully to his side, hidden, for the most part, under his blazer, the tip of its sheath peeking out less than an inch below the jacket's end. Julian adjusted his collar, his wide-notch lapel having ended up stuck straight up after Julian's last stint looking for cigarettes. He was nearing an intersection now, a building to his side meeting the edge of the sidewalk seamlessly. There was a bit of foot traffic now, but for the most part, Julian was able to pass by without any issues, many people giving him a wide berth. It confused him at first, but soon it dawned on him. These punks mus' think I'm Raven Tail! He wasn't able to enjoy it so much, as he continued to search himself. Julian had been hoping that maybe, if he kept patting his jacket and checking his pockets, his cigarettes would be magically summoned to his person. He knew it was silly, but he just couldn't believe that he would have left them behind. They had to be somewhere around here... As he approached the intersection, Julian turned, following the sidewalk, away from the Raven Tail Guild. He didn't see the man coming round the corner. ((OoC: So, yeah. If that's you, we might collide. If it's not, you might see it. Basically, though, I figure you'll be around that intersection about the same time that Julian is, based on... nothing in particular.)) |

and... "Ohmygodwhatthe-" In a most unsightly display of anime tropes, Oami rammed head-first into the unfortunate man as they both turned round the corner, knocking down the masked man and sending him sprawling on his back due to both impact and sheer surprise. On one hand, it was amazing how fast Oami could talk when he felt like it; on the other hand, the aforementioned statement was entirely irrelevant to the situation, save for describing what mumbo-jumbo came out of his lips as he swiftly rose back to his feet. Just kidding, he was in no good condition to swiftly rise back onto his feet. At the very least, though, he did put an arm behind himself to prop himself back up into something akin to a sitting position, as he examined the scene in front of him to see what sort of careless pedestrian would do this to a wounded man. "Oh, c'mon! I did not get jumped last week for this, why would you-" Someone- nay, something - interrupted. To be fair, you were just as careless, a voice spoke to Oami, as the spirits of his masks began to communicate to him. You could've avoided that just by looking both ways before crossing the- "Don't you dare finish that sentence." Oami warned, looking upwards at one of the masks floating a meter over his head. Discounting the fact that none but he could see or hear the floating masks above his head- well, the other half of the collision certainly had a show to look forward to. |

"Oh, c'mon! I did not get jumped last week for this, why would you-" Julian had been sent sprawling from the impact, more from surprise than anything else. Still, as he finally straightened himself up, he was greeted by a strange sight. He seemed to be about Julian's height, but currently, Julian couldn't tell if that's where their similarities ended. His face was obscured by a mask, painted to look like a fiery visage. The style was strongly eastern, a detail which Julian appreciated, whether or not the wearer did. Still, it appeared the masked man wasn't quite ready to get up, having only lifted himself up enough to see what was going on, his eyes peering from behind the the almond-shaped eyes slits. "Aw, sorry, mate," he started, a bit cautious of the man in black, "I dinnae see y-" "Don't you dare finish that sentence." Julian was taken aback for a moment. Apparently, this guy was... fairly pissed. Still, Julian couldn't really fault him for it, he had just been smashed into. It took a moment or two before Julian realized that the man before him wasn't looking to the thief. In fact, he seemed to be staring at the air above him. Julian wasn't exactly a doctor, but... that still seemed bad. He was either seeing things which weren't there, or he was extremely disoriented. Either way, Julian wasn't about to leave him behind to concuss in the street. "Aw'right, Lad," he coaxed, helpfully, reaching out a hand to the stranger, "Le's getcha to the 'ospital, eh?" It was obvious that the guy he'd collided with must have hit his head. Julian hoped he'd be cooperative. That, he'd take Julian's hand and he'd accept the thief's help, so that he could get checked out. Still, it wasn't entirely clear what this guy was thinking... Julian might have to end up dragging him to a doctor by force. He was obviously a warrior, his attire alone set him apart from most "normal" people around Fiore. In fact, if he was still working with his old crew, he bet this guy would be marked as a S Some mages end up getting pretty wealthy. It's simply a product of working on a contract basis. The more active you were, the more riches you were bound to acquire. The stronger you became, the better you could fare on high-paying missions. This guy looked like he had a lot of wealth, judging by the fancy clothes and armor. Not to mention that the addition of the latter meant that he wasn't just some piss-head noble. This guy was a wizard, alright... Although, Julian couldn't figure out if he was he was a tough SoB, or a dedicated newbie, the fact of the matter was that he was probably not in the best condition right now. "C'mon, le's get that mas' off ya," he continued, trying to be helpful, "So you can brea'v." ((OoC: original OoC went long sent it in a PM. It explains a few things about this post)) Edited by Fairchild, Apr 3 2015, 08:56 PM.

The words of the other man jolted Oami out of his conversation, the masked man's face turning downwards the moment he realized that he wasn't as alone as he'd thought. Whups. This was going to be awkward. "...I think I'm fine at the moment," he finally managed to utter, after what seemed like an eternity of awkward staring. "Thank you for the offer, though - just got out of the hospital myself, I've got no wanting to go back in." In a sudden display of undue agility, the masked man leaned back, and flipped himself back up and onto his feet in a motion that couldn't possibly be expected from someone who hadn't been experienced in that motion through sheer practice - a wobble of his legs as he planted them on the ground, however, revealed his state of health. Oami was forced to lean a hand against a nearby wall - but hey, at least he was standing upwards again. "Tsk, I can breath just fine too, no need to worry about me; but I'm in a bit of a rush, you see, I gotta get back to my guild right now, been away a bit too long and you know what happens when you leave for a while." Like hell was he going to mention his concerns over the aquarium full of little fishes that he kept in his apartment to a stranger in Trillium. "Sorry, good sir, love to stay and chat a bit but I've gotta be on my way now - the Ravens are calling again, you know?" With that, he pulled off a glove, revealing the tattoo of the dark guild over the palm of his hand - both a signal and a warning, depending on the identity of the one he was talking to right now. He wasn't sure which, himself, at the moment. "Anyways, gotta go, nice meeting you, let's hope neither of us crash into one another again-" Words flew out of his mouth like water in a rushing river, as the masked man attempted to walk his way around the other half of the collision, albeit more slowly and with greater attention to his surroundings this time. |

Julian wasn't really sure what to do, at first. Of course, Julian had things planned, a night to get ready for. On the other hand, he had just knocked down a guy who just got out of the hospital. Then again, he did say he was fine, and had already started to- "Wait." Julian said, putting all the piece together, "Did he say Raven Tail?" Well... he was close enough. Julian decided right then and there: it was his DUTY to make sure this guy made it home unharmed! He was obviously still not well, and it would be unwise to leave him on the street, wouldn't it? This is how Julian phrased it to himself, to pretend he didn't know the truth. This was a good faith mission. This would be his "in" with the guild. There was no way it wouldn't be, right? "Oy!" he called out, realizing he'd been left behind, " 'old on!" He caught back up to the man, his feet never stopping moving as he walked alongside. It wasn't very far to the Guild Hall, Julian knew that much. Still, he had never actually seen it before, and kind of hoped it would have some grandiose sign with blinking lights. Still, he hadn't caught up just to walk in silence, so Julian cleared his throat and began to speak. "Name's Julian Rousseau," he beamed self-assuredly, "From Acalypha." He hoped that would mean something, though, Julian wasn't sure what. Still, being from Acalypha... There were few people who didn't know of the legendary riches, he figured. It was the goal of every thief or treasure hunter worth their salt. While not exactly impressive, it at least gave him an idea of how far he had come from home to be here... "You?" he probed, hoping to put a name to the face. |

Oami glanced at the man now known as Julian his mask barely hiding the glint in his eyes. This definitely wasn't the first time someone had begun acting like this when the name of Raven Tail came out, and this was definitely not going to be the last. If his instincts were right, this fellow was just like the last one that began to act friendly when the tattoos came out. From personal experience, that only meant one thing. "The name's Monkey, that's all you need to know," the masked man answered, his own tone softening up. "It's easy to remember, easier to associate with this-" here, he gestured towards his admittedly simian mask - "and I'm going to guess you're not going to try forgetting this information anytime soon, hm?" Now, though, he definitely had something to prove; Monkey straightened his back, walking with an air of confidence that definitely wasn't quite there moments ago. "So- Julian, was it? - you're also headed the same way, hm?" For the moment, he was going to keep his observations to himself. "What brings a young guy like you all the way here from Acalypha? This isn't a city for good, honest labor, if you know what I mean." The guild was not far away now; just a bit, and he could recline, maybe a little more, perhaps bring this fellow in with him - goodness knew he wouldn't mind a little more of a commission. |

"and I'm going to guess you're not going to try forgetting this information anytime soon, hm?" Julian hadn't noticed how obvious he had been. Still, hearing that planted the seed in his mind. Still, he had convinced himself that his clever plan was working to an extent. "So- Julian, was it? - you're also headed the same way, hm?" The question was pretty straightforward, and Julian had a pretty straightforward answer. "Nah," he revealed, "but you seem ta be in pret'y rough shape, there." For the most part, he was telling the truth. He definitely realized that Monkey was a bit less recovered than he let on. His unsteady gait was proof enough of that, not even going into what internal injuries he might have. Still, it was only because it was a Raven Tail member that Julian had decided to follow him. He figured if not for that, he would have let Monkey just wander off. "What brings a young guy like you all the way here from Acalypha?" This isn't a city for good, honest labor, if you know what I mean." "Who says I'm lookin' ta be honest?" he laughed, "Been workin' tha game for about five years, now." While it wasn't quite the level of crime that was the calling card of Raven Tail, Julian figured it was a start. Obviously, since he had only been breaking into the houses of wealthy men who had left for their vaction homes, there was still much for Julian to learn. He wasn't about to beg for it now, but he did want to see a bit more of the life of a Raven Tail mage. Still, it wasn't exactly a sure thing that Julian would get to tag along for much longer. "I'm thinkin' of joining up wif Raven Tail," he finally admitted, "but not 'til I earn it, m'self." It was true. Even with all of his scheming and planning, Julian realized he didn't want it this way. If anything, he wanted Monkey to hold him to it. Today wasn't about trying to get ahead by befriending a member anymore, for Julian. Instead, this was reconnaissance. It was planning. It was learning more about Raven Tail, so that he could become a man worthy of joining their ranks. He wasn't sure if Monkey would want to help, but Monkey seemed to be Julian's best bet to find out what that means. |

"Oh, I see where this is heading," the masked man said, glad that his uncontrollable smile wouldn't be visible through his mask. "Well then, today might just be your lucky day, y'know? The ravens like people who want to work their way in, but since you're saying so you're going to have to hold yourself accountable to working your way in- there's no free meal in Trillium, right?" The Monkey controlled himself for a moment, preventing his own mouth from babbling on, as they neared the entrance to the guild- or at least, one of the lesser-known buildings under the guild's control. Ever closer did he move, to what appeared to be a restaurant with a nice and simple sign advertising it as "Heartbreak Cafe". "Tell you what, why don't we sit down and enjoy a bit of a meal first?" The young man suggested, pointing towards the restaurant. "I gotta rest every so often, with this leg of mine, and I don't know about you but hospital food is nothing compared to this place. You like french onion soup?" They were going to be getting french onion soup regardless of whether or not Julian liked it, or so was the plan going through Monkey's mind. "Here, let's get ourselves a bite to eat- food's on me," Monkey offered, as he limped over to open the doors to the restaurant. Heartbreak Cafe was, on the inside, a surprisingly pleasant place. The walls were some light and soft tan color, with a bit of a garden motif, not unlike what one would expect from the sketchbook of a suburban teenage girl. It wasn't a big place, with room for no more than maybe two dozen people, and at the moment it was entirely empty. The tables were spotless, the staff not present- perhaps in the back, preparing for a dinner rush or something of the like. Monkey moved himself towards the nearest counter. "I come here often, so I know the drill- here, just sit down, look at the menu. I'm sure the waiter will be here shortly." |
