Haber Riftz Book – A Guide to Learning Secondary Magic - Caster Type Healing - Preface to Chapter One – Expectations To the Magically Inclined: Throughout history there will be those who, like me, wish to dedicate themselves to the art of magical healing. I have written this guide to help those who wish to learn how to combat the invisible enemies of both injury and sickness. Of course before I do so, I must tell you that it is required that you are one of magical orientation. A wizard or a mage that is, who is already skilled in at least one form of magic. Do not attempt to learn a secondary magic without first being proficient in your origin magic. And once you begin to train yourself in this type of magic, you need to understand that you will never be as skilled in your origin magic as if you had only chosen to specialize in it alone. You will however be given the gift that is the capability of becoming a truly splendid doctor, if you will, of magic. Yes you will be forfeiting mastery of one to gain the skill of a second magical trade and there are of course pros and cons to this most important decision which I will discuss in chapter ten, however regardless of the cons, I have found this magic to be worth that vulnerability for me personally. Mainly because I have saved each of my companion's lives through it at least once. Please understand that you will be tested and tried in any number of ways and that it may not be at all possible for you to learn my type of healing magic at all. After all, my specific magic is advanced for a secondary form of wizardry and works similar to what we recognize in the photosynthesis of plants. My healing magic is not through mastery of potions and herbology, but of course that knowledge helps. Instead it works by rapidly speeding up the healing process in the individuals body as well as creating a superior immunity for disease and accelerating any abnormal deficiencies within your “patient”. Now, if that hasn't scared you off my reader, let us begin... Lights suddenly flashed in warning. A masculine voice on an lacrima-powered intercom flooded the area. “Attention Visitors! We will be closing up libraries A, B and C as well as the research centers and archives connected to them at this time! Thank you and please come back tomorrow!” Jetta bit her lower lip and closed the old book she'd been trying to find all day and had only just found in the archives section a mere few moments ago. The ebony haired curvacious Shadow-Make mage took the book with her and moved on to the checkout area. Unfortunately, the gentleman at the checkout station told her that archive texts were forbidden to leave the building, but that she could come back to tomorrow and read it inside of the library. The porcelain skinned young woman sighed heavily, but nodded and thanked the man any way. It wasn't his fault after all, but she couldn't help, but feel disappointed as she left the book behind her. She didn't have much more time in Belladonna before she'd need to be back to Magnolia and she was becoming strapped for cash recently as well. 'Oh well... At least finding it tomorrow should be a breeze.' Belladonna was city of researchers, scientists and even mages mostly from the nearby Lamia Scale Guild. The high-rise columned buildings rose up into the night sky and lit up the surrounding city streets well enough that only dim floating lacrima-powered lights were needed for most people with regular vision to see clearly. The Shadow-Make mage didn't need them as she'd trained herself to see especially well in the dark, but she wasn't opposed them as she walked along the lean pathways made especially for those on foot in the research city. The neoclassical styled streets which were lined with aesthetically pleasing columns, statues and other works of art for the mindful were very appealing to her, but the jet haired young lady found herself less enamored with the beautiful city since having lived in Magnolia for the last couple of weeks. Mainly she'd only decided to travel by train to the city so that she could focus on some additional training and learning amongst scholars in Belladonna. The young wizard had thought that traveling to the brilliant city might gain her the strength she would need to successfully join Fairy Tail and to learn her favored secondary magic to boot. Unfortunately all she'd managed to do was a small job or two and sight-see around the city. The ebony haired young woman continued walking along the lean pathways until she walked to the lower levels of the city where the hostel were she was staying was located. And in Belladonna the lower the level the more poor the neighborhood. On her way back to the slightly cracked up four story building where she stayed temporarily, the young woman heard the cry of something not human in a darker alleyway nearby. Letting her curiosity and worry get the better of her, the Shadow-Make mage easily moved through the back alley and saw a group of four or five teenagers gathered around something. With trained silence, she lurked around until she realized that the group were throwing things and trying to charge at a mother dog who was merely trying to protect her puppies. Appalled, Jetta walked forward and gave a look of pure disapproval amongst the local hooligans. “Hey. What do you think you're doing?! You'd better leave...” The group of teens scoffed at her and looked amused. A green haired man stepped forward. “We want those pups. W'can sell'em for something. Dog fight'n is big on the lowest levels. That bitch is in the way though. We're just roughing 'er up a bit so's we can get to 'em is all. Nothin' to get so uptight over.” The jet haired young lady huffed and stood in front of the canines. “No you aren't going to hurt them. I-I won't let you. Any of you.” The pine haired young man laughed, “Looks like we got two bitches in the way tonight, huh boys?” The rest of the group laughed mockingly towards her, but she remained rigid in place. Then the group moved towards her... Jetta gritted her teeth and moved one foot forward, crouching down slightly and then moving one of her hands into a fist before promptly placing her fist on her straightened out left hand. She was ready to fight... Edited by Jetta, Oct 18 2015, 02:04 AM.

Belladonna was…a liar. At least, that was what came to Adrien’s mind as he walked down one of the city’s dirty back alleys. He glanced sideways at one of the tall, but clearly worn down buildings and immediately felt he understood the situation as his gaze turned, instead, to the tall and magnificent buildings looming above. “Lying to themselves… Down here is where the city is at least honest,” he muttered to himself as he walked from shadow to shadow, his hands deep in his pockets. The sun had long since fallen behind the horizon, and thus the only sources for the shadows came from the dimly-lit lacrima crystal that illuminated above. Adrien’s eyes had, however, long-since adjusted to the darkened streets so that navigation wasn’t a difficult task. If he had wanted to walk on a cleanly lit street, he’d have stayed on the upper levels of the city. Down below, however, was what felt a lot more…familiar. Adrien had originally come to Belladonna in search of some kind of work which, as he was discovering, was difficult for a freelancer. The upper levels of the city had very little to offer the mage, so he decided to go for a short walk in the lower levels. Naturally, a short walk became the remainder of the day, and soon Adrien found himself walking along a narrow sidewalk in the poorer sections of Belladonna. In truth, he knew areas like this in any city were rampant with trouble, but the idea of it was fine by iron-manipulating wizard. He was hoping trouble just wouldn’t be too hard to find, but he became distracted from this thought when his stomach began to rumble; he realized he hadn’t eaten all day. Hopefully I can get a side of food with my trouble… At least the trouble wouldn’t be that hard to find. He had heard the loud noise but didn’t think much about it; an animal crying out in the night didn’t necessarily mean much. It was the loud cheers and hollering that soon accompanied it that really got Adrien’s attention. His slow walking picking up its pace out of impatience, the Iron Mage rounded a corner from the street to a back alley and immediately saw a group of people in the middle of it. Swiftly, he backed up against the corner away from the scene and poked his head out and try and get a good look at the situation before he rudely included himself. He could make out six people in total; one of them, however, stood in opposition of the others. Cute girl too… What’re you doing picking a fight with these losers…? Adrien thought to himself before noticing the group of dogs behind her. A moment later, the last exchanges of their conversation reached the charcoal-haired wizard’s ears and he felt he had a good grasp of what was going on…and what to do. He could see a spark in the girl’s eyes; she looked ready to fight. Stepping away from the wall, Adrien walked confidently into the alley with his head held high and a wide smirk on his face. The other men hadn’t seen him approach, and the Iron Molding Mage chuckled as he looked over them. The noise he made while doing so had managed to get their attention, and most turned in surprise to see him standing a few meters to the left of them, forming a triangle between them, the girl, and himself. “Well, what do we got here…? You intend to fight all these urchins yourself, girly?” Adrien asked, a low laugh forming in his throat before growing into a more defined version before he continued without a care towards what the teenagers were thinking, “Well you got guts, I’ll give you that. I think your math might be a lil’ off, though… You’re outnumbered.” The wizard tilted his head to one side and heard it make a satisfying “cracking” sound. He was about to get right down to business as he tensed his muscles and readied himself to attack, but before he did so an idea seemed to form in the pit of his empty stomach… “Hey, girly, I’ll tell you what… I’ll help you deal with these nobodies…and you buy me some grub. A decent meal outta do…” Adrien smirked and leaned against the dirty, back alley wall with his eyes closed and imagined what sort of full course meal he’d pick if he had the opportunity. He looked completely relaxed, despite how tense the situation might have been for the girl he was appearing to be ‘rescuing’ from some street thugs. He stood there waiting for the girl to hastily agree to his terms; what better option did she have, right? |

Beads of saline sweat formed along the outer edges of her forehead. The Shadow-Make mage's heart pounded against her sternum like a snare drum. The young ebony haired woman wasn't oblivious to the danger that she had chosen to place herself in. The precarious circumstances she was now facing were not lost on on the porcelain skinned wizard. But then again, she also understood that the dogs behind her must have felt even more utterly terrified than she felt and that realization is what drove her to plunge in head first as she had. Whatever fate may come her way, Jetta could not stand idly by and know that innocent animals were being tortured and taken prisoner by a bunch of thugs. It wasn't an honest fight. It wasn't a fair dealing. And she refused to stand for it. Even if it was five against one... Then, before the teenage group had charged towards her, an ashen haired young man around her age walked forward in a most confident way. She almost smiled in admiration of that self assurance and she most definitely would have too...if he hadn't opened his mouth. “Girly?...” The jet haired young lady found herself staring in an incredibly displeased and unimpressed look at the charcoal haired roughian when he laughed her way. “My math ain't off. I know what I'm up against.” Jetta said insistently. A pang of uncertainty filled her gut and she looked to her left to avoid having to look at any of the idiots for a brief moment. 'H-He might want to help me...and I'm in no position to argue right now...' The sound of bones cracking filled her ears and made her look back at the grey haired young man and when he spoke again, she took what he said into immediate consideration. He wanted food for helping her. The ebony haired mage gave a quick nod towards her temporary companion. There was no time to waste. The teenagers lunged at the two right after she nodded to the ash haired man and before she'd had proficient time to truly compose herself. Her concentration was effected when a couple thugs aimed punches and kicks her way. Jetta gasped in pain again and again when she was hit and punched a few times despite attempting to dodge every attack. She simply wasn't as quick as the young brutes were. Trying her best to focus on the task at hand, the young woman whimpered in spite of herself. She'd really gotten herself into something this time around. In spite of it all though, her concentration built up enough for her to breathe deeply before finally managing to attack. With her fist pressed against the upturned flattened side of her hand and her thumbs matching up with one another, the stormy eyed young wizard stared with utter and complete focus towards her enemies. Two of the five had chosen to attack her while the other three might have chosen the bigger ashen haired man who they probably perceived as more of a threat. The jet haired mage breathed out and as she did...a circle made of an intricately patterned shadowy magical energy formed in front of her. “Shadow-Make...CAT!” Jetta cried out with her feminine voice filled with determination. All at once that energy formation which at been in front of her suddenly formed into a domestic feline shape that was made of shadows. A grungy looking feline form with half of a tail anyways. The shadow creation bolted forward with a yowl and a hiss and leaped at both of the teenage boys and slashed them with sharp “claws”. Finally, the form disappeared into thin air and left behind it, two scratched up teens who looked at her in shock.“She's a wizard!” One of the two proclaimed. And their initial shock gave her enough time to grab her small silver dagger out of her black leather messenger bag that had been sitting on her shoulder. Taking it, she stared down the teens in front of her. Both of which looked relatively unprepared to face someone with a weapon. Panting, the ebony haired young lady glanced once back towards the ashen haired young man to see how he was doing on his end. “Jetta. My name's Jetta! Just so you know.” Edited by Jetta, Apr 1 2015, 12:20 AM.

Adrien felt pretty pleased with himself as he leaned back against the dirty stone wall. Although the day hadn’t been very successful with the failing to find any sort of work or money for food, he was at least going to end it with a good fight…and THEN food. The thought of being served fresh food was already mouth-watering, but the fact it was going to be free was the real kicker. ’Course, having a cute girl buy it for me ain’t so bad neither… Adrien thought to himself and, despite the situation, smiled. He could already taste the hot meal on his tongue. The young man then opened one eye to look at the girl again, who seemed to quickly consider his bargain and agree. Perfect. “Well, well… Doesn’t look like you guys aren’t gonna be getting off easy today…” Adrien began, pushing himself off the wall and stretching his arms lazily, “I’m gonna make sure I get my meal’s worth… C’mon!” The group of thugs immediately split into two groups to deal with the two mages; two went for the girl while three seemed to fixate on him. Adrien could already see them preparing to attack; his experience in these situations was like a breath of familiar air. In a moment he had glanced at all three and, letting instinct take over at that point, did what his body had been honed to do. The three of them had charged, and Adrien rushed in to meet them. Focusing on the middle guy, who was your typical street thug with his pierced nose and hood up, the Iron-Manipulating Wizard clenched his right hand into a fist in preparation to attack. Bringing his right arm back, Adrien stepped forward with an eager grin delivered a hard punch right into ‘piercing-guy’s’ face. The receiver to this solid blow grunted in pain and fell backwards, causing Adrien to smirk in that moment. Unfortunately, the other two wouldn’t be so easy to deal with. Focusing all of his efforts in taking out ‘piercing guy’, Adrien was unprepared when he felt the sharp sting of one of the teenager’s fists colliding right with his left cheek. The mage grunted from the sharp pain, although was finding himself fortunate that these runts were, at least, a lot weaker than he was. Still, the fact he was outnumbered caused him to adopt a more defensive stance as he raised his arms up in defence…just in time to block a blow from another fist. Damn, gotta keep these guys from coming at me at once… Adrien thought to himself, his teeth gritted. With piercing guy on the ground, still, it at least left only two to deal with, temporarily. It would have to do. “C’mon, man, go fight the girl if you’re gonna hit like that,” Adrien said, taunting one of the thugs. The guy was a little more out of shape than the other two, but he made up for it by not being as hesitant as the other guy. The wizard could see the stockier guy’s face turn red and, just as Adrien anticipated, went in for another punch. In response, Adrien turned aside the guy’s fist with his raised forearm and delivered a swift kick to the side of the leg with his steel-toe shoe. He followed up this blow with another, giving the guy a solid right jab to the face. The blow made him stumble, but he wasn’t out…yet. Taking a slight lull in the fight to take a breath and ready himself, it was then that he heard the girl call out to him from her end. He glanced her way, totally forgetting for a moment that he was supposed to be helping her. “That’s real nice, girly! The name’s Adrien, now… Don’t get distracted!” he called out back, getting ready for round two with his opponents. Unlike Jetta, he looked like he was actually enjoying himself… |

The coarse head of her silver dagger felt so very foreign being pointed at another living being by way of her clammy right hand. It wasn't in her natural instinct to want to fight and unlike the ashen haired roughian who seemed to have no real issue with the situation at hand, she was far from content with the way things were going. And also with the words that her so called “companion” so uncouthly spouted from his mouth. She may have been beyond worried at opposing the two teenage boys whom she was pitted against, but she'd even managed to overhear the grey haired man mention to one of the hoodlums he was facing, to fight her if the teen was going to fight like “that”. It didn't take a genius to see that he'd called her weak within earshot. He might as well have just said it to her face. The Shadow-Make mage clenched her teeth together in frustration, only to have them chatter slightly in fear. She faced danger and her only help was practically harassing her in the process without even actually saying anything to her minus his usual response where she was called “girly”. Frustration built up inside of her and ebony haired young woman let it boil. After a few seconds, the initial shock must have warn off of the two scratched up boys. The duo looked even more unnerved towards the young woman with the weapon now pointed towards them. It wasn't as though they didn't have knives themselves, it was just that they themselves had been too young just yet to know how to use them. Or at least, they hadn't needed to use them out of necessity on human flesh. The pair especially didn't want the first person their blades went through to be a woman. It just didn't settle well in their stomachs. Then again...they weren't entirely opposed to the idea either... They simply awaited the most opportune moment in their hormone driven minds to arrive so that they could strike. Besides those facts, they'd already landed blows to the jet haired lady's shoulders, chest and once to the side of her head. It was plain to see that their “opponent” wasn't much of a fighter. Jetta assumed the thugs before her thought of her as feeble. It made the most sense to her based on how their facial expressions had shifted. The tattooed youngsters faces had moved from shocked, to unnerved, to slightly amused and yet on guard. Being a former street kid, the Shadow-Make mage knew those looks all to well. They had seized her up and even with a weapon in hand, they must not have seen her as a threat, for they moved forward. The ebony haired young woman backed up a step or two, not wanting to step on the dog or her pups, but not having much more room to move. Then one of the troublesome teenagers taunted her. “Heh. I don't think you have the heart to cut us.” The other chimed in immediately, “Nope. Looks like she just put it out for show.” The two boys shot forward and Jetta gasped and dodged to the side. Once again, she was simply too slow however and one of the boys grabbed her silver blade from her hand while the other pinned her to the side of the wall before she could properly react. “N-No!” Jetta shrieked. Then all of a sudden a growl filled the dark alleyway and the man that was pinning her to the filthy wall, cried out in pain and let go of her! “OWWWW!” The mother dog had bit into the boy's leg and shook it with all of the ferocity of any mother who was protecting her young. The Shadow-Make wizard scrambled back away while the man ran off, screaming bloody murder with the mother dog latched onto his now heavily bleeding leg. Her earlier attack had taken away a lot of her energy still. There was no way that she could attack with any more magic just yet and the other boy had her dagger. Gathering up all of her strength and energy, the young lady leaped at the second boy, who had looked towards his comrade who had ran off with the ruthless canine in attack mode. “NO YOU DON'T!” The jet haired mage pulled them both down to the ground where they exchanged punches with one another. Jetta cried out again and again as she hit directly against her face. Blood trailed down her nose and her vision blurred a bit. Then the man held up her dagger and pointed her own weapon at her. She'd managed a couple of good hits at him and made blood drip down his left ear and his eye swell, but it hadn't been enough in the end... 'A-At least...the dog chased off the other guy...' Jetta noticed and looked up in a mixture of horror and rebellion at the man holding her weapon against her neck. She tried to kick at him, only to be blocked by the teen's own legs while he used one hand to hold down her two wrists. Despite him only being a teenager, he still overpowered her in brawn and she growled at him. “Back off!...” The hoodlum on top of her laughed before responding. “After all the trouble you've caused? I mean the mother dog is gone now at least. Chas'n off my pal. So at least the pups will be easy to grab.. And... I think I deserve an extra prize too for all the trouble.” He poised the blade near one of her wide charcoal colored eyes. “And I think I know exactly what prize that should be...Hehehe...” Edited by Jetta, Apr 2 2015, 04:57 AM.
