Hmm..it seemed Cyrus was rather strong as proven by the fact he easily removed the manhole cover from the manhole and moved it out of the way. The half-snake chuckled but soon her enjoyment faded as she watched Cyrus climb down into the sewer system which was when the pungent aggressive offensive odor reached Xiayu's nose. The smell could only be described as the scent of ten thousand years worth of bodily waste built up and then set on fire released terrible horrible smells. The half-snake did not want to climb down into this sewer because who in their right right mind wanted to? But alas she wasn't really being given much of a choice in this matter. Xiayu made a sound that could really only be written as "Tch" and scowled at Cyrus as she was clearly annoyed by this whole matter. "Fine I'm coming..but you owe me a new outfit for this." The purple haired female lowered her tail down into the sewer first, groaning and grumbling as she did so, then the rest of her body followed suit. If the smell of the sewer had been bad before it was even worse now especially for Xiayu. Luckily unlike Cyrus Xiayu was able to keep the scent from affecting her as badly as it was her knight partner. The interesting thing about snakes is that they use their tongues to detect scents upon the air and with Xiayu her sense of smell was split evenly between her nose and tongue so by keeping her tongue in her mouth she could avoid detecting the oh so lovely aroma known as "Eau de Sewer." In was a good plan as far as ideas where concerned but in practice it really didn't work because her partner had questions to ask about what exactly she was. "Well...I'm not entirely sure myself. I'm no demon I can tell you that. The answer is probably in the story of how I became what I am currently. Once upon a time I was an ordinary snake, boa constrictor if you want a precise breed, and now I'm this. That's the short version anyway." Xiayu retched once she had finished talking having literally tasted the smells of the sewer. The half-snake was hoping she wouldn't have to talk any further but that was when Cyrus asked what she was capable of in a fight which really threw a monkey wrench into things. "Ugh..well honestly I have little combat experience, none in fact so I'd probably be utterly useless when it comes to fighting." In hindsight the fact Xiayu couldn't fight was probably a very good reason why she shouldn't have come on this little affair. And that was when the moaning echoed through out the sewers which caused a chill to settle in the half-snake's heart. "You can..hear that right?" Regardless of the sound Xiayu slithered on-wards with Cyrus as the moaning continued echoing throughout the sewers. After what felt like ten minutes, although Xiayu couldn't tell as she lacked a watch, the pair would stumble upon a large wooden door built into a stone wall. Anyone who took a closer look at the door would easily be able to tell that it was ajar but that wasn't the important thing. What was important just so happened to be the fact there was light and heat coming through the gap between the door and the door frame as well as the apparent sources of the moans occurring from within. The half-snake didn't exactly feel like opening the door so she decided to let Cyrus handle that. (I have ideas for what is behind the door so if you leave describing the room's contents tome I'd be grateful) Edited by LunarCataphract, Feb 20 2015, 01:21 PM.

Cyrus reflected on Xiayu's words as the two walked, her response was intresting as to when he asked her just what she was if not a demon. The knight was tempted to ask further and question just as to how she didn't know what species she was- yet considering they were knee deep in shit (metaphorically and physically speaking) he decided to drop it, the two had bigger things to worry about most likely. "Someone turned you into a half-human from a snake?" Cyrus asked, raising an eyebrow, there must have been some truly powerful magic at work for something like that to have occurred. Indeed, the person he had gotten stuck with started seeming more and more intresting as they talked. Perhaps it was somewhat due to the fact that Cyrus himself wasn't all that much of an intresting guy, he had a pretty simple background with a few abnormalities- even though they were rather major shocks. As the two walked, Cyrus's mind mediated on what he had accidentally stumbled back to. When his father had been mysteriously killed by unknown magi, he swore vengance and to one day avenge him- yet he hadn't even begun to effectively start finding out what happened, instead he had just been tossed from one misadventure to the next. Then of course there was that even older mystery, Cyrus had never known his mother, the blond was abandoned on his father's doorstep in Mizhou when he was only and infant. Such questions constantly plagued the man, he would have to find answers one day, although currently such goals were not on his priority list. Upon hearing that Xiayu wasn't that much of a fighter, Cyrus frowned. They were inevitably going to end up in some sort of conflict in the near future considering they were hunting down a demon or some sort of variation of one, having an ally who couldn't put up a fight wasn't exactly helping their situation. Still, Cyrus just took the news the best he could, "-A word to the wise then: start training to get some" he said, regarding the snake-woman's lack of combat experience. The two continued to walk through the dark sewer system, the sounds of footsteps and slithering echoing down the hall as the moaning carried on. The knight had gotten somewhat used to the abnormal sound, it mean that they were most likely on the right track to finding- well- whatever it was that they were meant to find. After a fairly long walk in silence, the two came to a door. Instantly, Cyrus was suspicious, finding random doors in sewers systems didn't exactly fit the definition of 'normal'. Atlhough considering he was teaming up with a half-snake woman, 'normal' didn't really have a say in the matter about things anymore. Xiayu seemed reluctant to open up the door, leaving Cyrus to do the deed. It wasn't exactly like he was thrilled to see what would pop out at them or await them on the otherside, but if it mean solving this rather grim mystery than he would oblige. The knight walked forwards and approached the door, taking a few seconds to listen for footsteps or abnormal sounds on the otherside sans the wailing, but did not hear anything. With a shrug, Cyrus opened up the door. |

Xiayu realised how strange her origin story must sound but it was her origin story none the less. The half-snake had asked herself what her owners motivations were in changing her and when she did take the question to her creator his response was "for the sake of research"which Xiayu supposed was a good enough reason. Call the half-snake callous and cold if you will but she honestly did not have much interest for Cyrus's own history. Cyrus was lecturing Xiayu on getting combat experience? Boy that was amusing to hear especially from the one who now forced Xiayu into this situation, even though Cyrus was only partly responsible for that. The matter of getting combat experience was something that still clung to the half-snake's thoughts. Since her...change Xiayu had become aware that Fiore was indeed a rather dangerous place but honestly what on Earth could she do? The half-snake was sort of leashed to her "owner" and relied upon him for a lot of her finical stability. Xiayu almost ending up falling in the disgusting sewer water due to how much she was concentrating. The near fall snapped Xiayu back to reality and the fact there was a door in front of her eagerly waiting to be opened. If the half-snake ever decided to get experience and training in how to fight then her best bet would be one of the many educational institutions that existed all throughout Fiore. When Cyrus opened the door he would be met with an incredibly strange site. The room beyond the door was round and the walls were lined with clocks of the type that you'd find on a bed side night table. The combined ticking of the clocks could only be described as annoyingly loud but that was not the most note worthy thing about this room. The noteworthy thing was that this room was utterly devoid of any and all furniture except for a single battered old looking wooden chair. Sitting upon this chair was a strange being created from numerous different gears and other internal clock components; all of which was housed inside a sea through glass case. With a loud tick tock sound the clockwork being turned to face Cyrus and Xiayu then just blankly stared at them. The half-snake was not sure how she should take this incredibly strange being. It's utterly expression and featureless face was incredibly disturbing; after all it had no eyes, mouth, nose or anything but on the other hand it wasn't acting in an aggressive manner. Truly this was a strange situation that Xiayu was not sure how to react to but she decided to simply say hello and at least attempt to be civilized; unlike the imbeciles that formed this town's civilian population. "Hello there! Would you mind giving up some directions? We're looking for a demon!" There was silence as the clockwork man just stared blankly at Xiayu and Cyrus before returning to blankly staring at the ground but of course how could you tell the expression of a being if it has no ability to make expressions? |

The first thing Cyrus notice about the room they were in was the obnoxious ticking sounds of the many clocks which lined the walls of the place. The knight frowned, this place was already unappealing to him as it was. The blond could feel his patience running dry as he looked at the clockwork wall, the place was so off-putting that it felt like he was going to lose any semblance of rhythm or time which he might have otherwise had. The knight could only mutter to himself, "Huh" in response to the drastic turn things had taken. Perhaps Cyrus should have been clued into all this by the fact that there was a mysterious door in the middle of a sewer, yet even then this was something out of left field. Upon seeing the clockwork golem sitting in the middle of the room, the knight raised an eyebrow- seeing a golem wasn't something that one could deem common, nor one made out of clockwork at that matter. Cyrus scrunched up his nose as he saw the thing look at them, its facial features nonexistent. The creature didn't seem all that threatening, although considering Cyrus had gone up against some rather unassuming foes in the past, he wasn't completely lowering his guard. Nonetheless, the thing seemed almost lifeless if not for its occasional movements, "I think we may have taken the wrong door" Cyrus said to Xiayu, although the snake-woman took initiative and questioned the creature. Unfortunately, yet unsurprisingly, the thing just sort of ignored them as if they weren't there. "Well, I mean, I'm not quite sure what you were expecting since it doesn't have a mouth- or an anything for that matter" Cyrus said with a shrug to the woman next to him. Right, the thing was useless, moving on. "So sorry to bother you sir, have a good day with your clocks then" the knight said to the creature. Seeing as how the clockwork creature wasn't exactly doing anything to help or hinder their search, Cyrus saw no more point in staying with it. Besides, all these clocks ticking at different rhythms was driving his OCD crazy like fuck. The two still had a demon to hunt, the faster they caught it and found presented it to the town, the sooner the two of them could go their separate ways. Edited by Ravendark, Feb 24 2015, 08:31 PM.

The clock golem, if that was even what it was, remained silent and motionless but it hadn't ignored Cyrus or Xiayu. In fact the clockwork golem was thinking, rather slowly, but thinking none the less. It knew the information that these visitors sought but it wasn't sure if it should tell them or not hence why it remained silent and motionless for such a long period of time. "Wait" The golem had no mouth but it was still able to speak somehow. The voice echoed out from every single clock in the room, which had stopped ticking now, as those clocks just so happened to be its ears, eyes and mouth. "I know what is you seek. The demon has long existed in these sewers." There was a story behind why the golem knew this one and the half-snake planned on asking. "So you know its precise location do you?" Xiayu asked the obvious and most important question regarding the demon's location. The clock work golem went silent again a a lot of loud ticking escaped from the golem's head. "The demon moves constantly but its lair is west of here" And just like that the golem went silent again and stared at the floor. Part of the half-snake wanted to press the golem for more information regarding the demon, perhaps why it knew about the demon in the first place, but on the other hand there was a risk that asking could end up annoying or aggravating the golem. "Well then..that's useful to know. Let's go then blondie." Xiayu chuckled and began slithering out of the room. The only other thing in the room that was worth any attention happened to a gigantic grandfather clock set apart from all of the other clocks. This grandfather clock was unique in the fact that it wasn't ticking in fact it wasn't even working nor did it have any clock hands. If Cyrus took a closer look at this strangely silent clock he would notice that hidden inside the glass case was some sort of book and a key. This key and book may have some importance or relevance, after all it was located in a room occupied by a golem that knew about the demon, but the question was would the clock work golem simply allow Cyrus or his partner to open the grandfather clock? The only way to find out would be to simply ask. (Sorry if this post is kind of rubbish..not feeling motivated right now) Edited by LunarCataphract, Feb 25 2015, 03:18 PM.

Well the good news was that the golem wasn't dead or anything- the bad news is that the thing they were hunting had been here for a seemingly long time. The knight frowned upon learning this new information, he hadn't been expecting to face a creature that was rather settled and rooted in these sewers. Perhaps of greater importance though was the rather glaring question of just what on earth this room was and what the clockwork golem was doing sitting in it. It seemingly managed to communicate with them telepathically, emanating from all the clock in the room and echoing the space within. The clocks seemed to act as a part of the creature's nervous system, functioning as the golem's senses and whatnot. 'Well this isn't strange at all' Cyrus thought to himself as he looked around the room once again, had this place always been down here? It seemed awfully unlikely seeing as how someone might have noticed an out of place room with a myriad of clocks in it- no, from what the blond could tell the creature was more mobile than it was letting on. Still, it had helped the two- and that was enough. Xiayu asked the question which Cyrus knew would come next, seeing as how they had no idea where on earth they were going. The creature pointed out a key fact to keep in mind however, the demon was constantly on the move but its lair was stationary. Cyrus gave a small nod in acknowledgement, if the two were lucky they could get to its lair while the demon was out and investiage- hopefully they'd find some clues to the kidnapped children's fates as well as just what exactly it was they were hunting. The townspeople had said they were hunting a snake demon, but they never explicitly described the creature. Xiayu beckoned for the knight to follow her out of the room, although there was a certain peculiarity that had attracted the knight's eye. A grandfather clock was on the opposite side of the room- it did not function nor did it emit any ticking noise, it simply seemed dead or like a regular piece of furniture. Of real importance however was what looked like a book and a key behind the glass base of the broken grandfather clock. Cyrus at first tried to put the items out of his mind, but found himself interested- this room was certainly a strange place after all. "Would you mind if I see that book and key over there? Inside that grandfather clock" the knight asked simply enough, if the two couldn't get it then it would be no skin of the knights back. This creature seemed to know an awful lot however, and that was something which Cyrus was tempted to inquire into further, for now though he simply walked over to the grandfather clock and grabbed the book and key- although slowly as to respect the creature's decision. |

The golem was expecting these two visitors to leave now, they had the information they wanted after all, but no as the two organics were leaving the blond one returned and took a look at the grandfather clock. The grandfather clock was rather vital to the clockwork golem both for what it contained and due to emotional value so it made sense the golem was...on edge. Luckily the blond knight didn't make any effort to forcibly remove the key and journal from the clock, which was something the golem appreciated, but would that show of manners and respect be enough to convince the golem to say yes to Cyrus's request? The short answer would be yes but like many things in this world there was certain cravats attached to it. The golem rose from his chair and turned to face Cyrus, displaying more energetic movements than it had before, and unlike the last time it spoke instantly without pondering. "Yes but I have one single condition." The golem's condition was something very important and personal however its ease in asking was because the golem had been waiting many years for this. "What I want in return is the soul of the demon. It is....important. The answers as to how to capture and transport the soul can be found in the journal." With a snap of the golem's fingers the glass front of the grandfather clock swung open giving Cyrus easy access to the contents inside. When the blond picked up the key and journal, if he did that is, his fingers would tingle with electricity. Opening the book would reveal numerous curved runes and strange glowing symbols written upon the pages which were impossible to read or translate for one very simply reason. They kept changing. The symbols and runes changed constantly between every and all languages in Earthland; even ones that had been forgotten by the humans at large. The key on the other hand was a lot more forthcoming with information. Engraved on the key was a simple word "Translate" but apart from that the key was incredibly plan except for the fact its head was in the shape of an very elaborate T. As for the cut of the key, that part at the front, it was in the shape of the letter X looking more like a branding iron that you'd use to brand cows than a key but the question was would Cyrus figure the secret of the key out? The half snake slithered towards Cyrus and looked over his shoulder, which was due to the fact she was able to raise her self up rather highly via her tail, pondering the items Cyrus had taken from the grandfather clock. The items taken from the grandfather clock was not the only thing that Xiayu was curious about. To her it was obvious that this clock work golem had some sort of connection or relation with the child stealing demon but what the connection or relation was happened to be the question at heart. There was a risk in asking about the connection so for now Xiayu decided to remain quiet and see what her partner would do next. That decision wasn't reached out of a lack of willingness to take charge but because the half-snake was interested in what her partner would do. Edited by LunarCataphract, Feb 27 2015, 04:43 PM.

Cyrus raised an eyebrow at hearing the creature's conditions. The soul of the demon in exchange for this book and key? Cyrus felt somewhat jipped, the deal was heavily askew in the favor of the golem over the knight and the snake-woman. Still, seeing as how the creature seemed to react so suddenly and directly upon the knight asking about the two items, it was logical to draw the conclusion that they were important to the creature somehow. Furthermore, seeing how the creature was somehow connected to the demon made the knight all the more wary. Due to all this, the blond momentarily hesitated, it was clear that by taking these objects he would be entering an unspoken contract with the creature. Once they killed whatever this thing was, they were going to have to drag it back here or something- lord knows that Cyrus had no experience extracting demon souls. Still, he grabbed the book and key before opening the hardcover book up. "Aaahhhhh- yes I see.... Oh how could I have been so foolish, the answers have been here all along!" the knight said after momentarily processing the rapidly changing script of the book. The knight gave an acknowledging nod before calling back to Xiayu, "Don't worry! The answers are all in here!" he said, although it was clear he was exaggerating on purpose to emphasize how useless the book seemed at first glance. The key proved to be the more intresting between the two items- mostly because the knight didn't have to decipher much: it was a key. The blond glazed over the object and the words engraved into it, the thing seemed more like a cattle brand then a key honestly. Seeing as how Cyrus still was somewhat confused by all this, he tried to dumb things down as much as possible. The key said translate, the book badly needed to be translated- ergo, key + book= sanity? It was certainly worth a shot, Cyrus took the rather strange key and the plain silly book before pressing the key on the books pages to see just what would happen. Puzzles were never exactly Cyrus's forte, did that make him dumb? Perhaps. Did he truly care all that much? Meh, maybe a little. |

Cyrus's exaggeration about the usefulness of the journal really didn't annoy, aggravate or drew out any response from the golem which had just sat right back down in his chair returning to his silent motionless vigil. Personally Xiayu didn't believe that the book was as useless as Cyrus did but she did believe that its rapidly changing text language made it difficult to withdraw any worth while information from the book. When Cyrus pressed the key into the book it grew very hot and began to glow bright god. The heat and the glow faded leaving Cyrus with the book exactly the same as before except for the fact that the book's contents had now translated into English. The book told the story of the demon, the clockwork golem and how both of them had ended up here in the first place. Years ago there was a mage who uses his magic and skills to design and create numerous clocks and so one day he decided to take on his greatest challenge: to create a golem that ran off clock work and not magic. The clock maker tried for many years but for all of his knowledge and skill he had been unable to create the golem so he resorted to finding those more knowledgeable than him which was how he encountered he the demon. In a chamber deep in the sewers the clock maker summoned and sealed the demon away and took the knowledge he needed from it to make his golem which he left here to watch over the captured demon. That was where the story ended as the rest of the book was designs, plans and ideas for very elaborate clocks. The book didn't tell how the demon, if it indeed had been imprisoned to begin with, managed to escape but it didn't need to as how the demon escaped was pretty obvious. A demon worshiping cult in Fiore would obviously try and free imprisoned demons especially ones as powerful as the one sealed away in the sewers. One final entry in the very back of the book detailed the manner in which to steal the demon's soul and it read thus: "Upon death press this book into the demon's chest but you must be quick or the soul shall escape and it will return." Xiayu had been reading this information over Cyrus's shoulder and now that they were armed with this information it would be time to go. "Hmmm..and with that information I think we have what we need don't we handsome?" Xiayu lowered herself down slightly so she was no longer a foot or so higher than Cyrus. At first she hadn't been really interested in hunting down this demon, she was being forced into it by the threat of death after all, but having read the journal she was now very interested in this whole affair. Why did reading the journal's contents interest her so much? Well that's because she always had an appreciation for clocks and fine time pieces so she was hoping that once the clock work golem had the soul it would be possible for her to take the journal with her and see if she could get someone more knowledgeable in the art of clock making to create some of these designs. |

Indeed things had just gone from confusing to rather peculiar in the course of a few seconds. The kngiht watched as the key he pressed against the book caused the items to shake angrily somewhat as the languages in the book rapidly changed languages at a pace faster than before- for a second the knight thought he had broken it. Once it turned gold he thought for sure the thing must have been burned or soemthing, although it was coold to the touch, the words inside now tranlsated to Fiorian. The knight gently flipped through the small book, if it hadn't gone under a magical process right in front of him then he wouldn't have thought that it was magical in the first place really. Cyrus still read the thing anyways, seeing as how it was proving to be of more intrest than previously anticipated. He could sense Xiayu peeking over and reading form behind him, and thus angled the book upwards somewhat so that she too could read for herself. Cyrus slowly read the book, the tale which was being woven was a quirky one if not intresting. A mage who specialized in clockmaking decided to try and create sentient life via clock magic. He couldn't do it so he just got some demon to help him with it, in the end trapping him down here and forcing the creature he had created to watch it. Although, from what Cyrus could tell, that duty had been getting harder as of late. Indeed there were some plot holes missing from the text, such as what happened to the clock mage or how the creature had managed to get out. Considering there were plenty of demon cultists around Fiore though, plot holes were an acceptable when it came to matters like this. The book's final instructions answered one of Cyrus's original questions, pressing the book against the demon to trap the creature inside it. Cyrus looked at the book and looked up to the golem, there were still a few things that the knight wanted to ask it, but for now the two of them would have been better of leaving in search of the rouge demon. Thus, when Xiayu suggested that the two get going, Cyrus didn't protest. Even though the blond was meant to be professional, he couldn't help but add a little zest in his reply to the snake-woman, "Indeed...Although when this day is through I hope I'll have caught more than just a demon" he said, a small smile curling up onto his face as he glanced back at Xiayu, having a feeling she'd understand what hew as implying- he hadn't forgotten just who he was with after all. Part of him wondered just what else the snake-woman had that was human.... "Right then, lets go" he said, putting the book and key into his pocket and heading back towards the door, expecting Xiayu to follow him as he did so seeing they wouldn't be getting any new information from the golem probably. So, once more they would find themselves standing back out in the putrid sewers- hunting demons again and leaving the almost nauseating clockwork room behind them.
