The announcement of the Demon Inquisition had made life difficult for certain residents of Fiore. One of this residents just so happened to be Xiayu Serpentera, the half-snake dark mage to be, as she found herself in a real spot of bother. Due to being a snake from the waist down Xiayu had been mistaken for a demon by rather a lot of members of Oshibana Town and as such found herself trapped between a mob of angry villagers and a stone wall. The phrase a rock and a hard place was most definitely applicable for this rather dangerous predicament. Despite Xiayu being trapped the villagers seemed..afraid of her which was something she was grateful for as this fear happened to be the only thing stopping them from running her through. Perhaps they were waiting for someone more...powerful to arrive such as a mage? Xiayu was unfortunately not exactly able to fight her way out of the crowd as she had numbers working against her and the moment she cast a spell the enemy would descend upon her. Personally the dark mage would have chosen to fight her way out of this little mess but given the fact odds were against her she was forced to play it nice. "I am no demon. If I was you'd be all dead." Xiayu warped her expression into one of anger and rage as she reared up to her full height with the intention of intimidating those who'd do her harm. "Now begone! And be grateful for your lives." Bravado had its usage and this situation was one of the them as the crowd backed away quite clearly afraid of suffering some sort of horrible magic related fate. |

"A demon you say?" "-Yeah, so you've gotta hurry!" "So... You're telling me- that there's a demon just walking around here somewhere" "Well, um...Yeah?" "Uh Huh..." Cyrus gave a befudded look to the man that had just ran up to him out of nowhere and started ranting on about there being a demon just up the street. The knight was suspicious of such a thing to be honest, in his past experiences with demons and the like he had always known the creatures to be more stealthy and clandestine- let alone venture out for all too see when it was just a small gorup. Even then, just how on earth would a demon have gotten out of the demon realm in the first place? To be quite frank, the facts didn't seem to point to such a creature- yet the paranoid villager seemed intent that the knight get up and do something. It was a shame, the man had been enjoying the best battered haddock, he had been sitting in a local pub when the guy just ran in out of nowhere and practically jumped on him- apparently being a knight automatically meant you were obliged to solve every little problem out there. The man had barely gotten his lunch when this whole incident had broken out- to know that his money had gone down the drain would not have rested well with him. Still, he would probably get in trouble if he didn't at least investigate the possible threat. After all, there had been reports of suspicious activity around Oshibana. "Alright, pay my tab and we'll go" the blond said, causing the man to hastily pay the bartender the jewels the knight owed the fellow before the guy started dragging him up the street almost, the two of them seeming somewhat alone against the streets of Oshibana as they walked along to where this so called demon was at. A few minutes late the knight found himself in an alleyway facing a massive crowd which was haranguing what appeared to be some sort of snake-woman. The blond couldn't get a good view but still could determine what made them think poorly of the creature. "Wait, so what do you want me to do exactly?" he asked the man. |

After the man paid Cyrus's tab and left the bar with him he started to talk about what exactly he wanted her to do. "It;s a demon! You need to kill her or arrest her or something! In fact I think she's an it only pretending to be a female in order to trick us into trusting her! Please tell us you'll kill her! Those damn demons killed a lot of our people so this is only justice..." The man seemed to have a lot of anger towards these demons and with very good reason. The man lost his wife and child to the demon invasion so it made sense he had no room for mercy or forgiveness in his heart, even towards those that he mistook for demons when they weren't. Eventually Cyrus was lead to Xiayu and the angry mob that were surrounding her. The mob parted to let Cyrus approach the "demon" and confront her. Xiayu turned her attention to Cyrus once he was close enough and lowered herself down so she could talk to him. "And who are you? Another one of these slack jawed fools who wouldn't know a demon if it bit them on the ass?" There was venom in Xiayu's voice, which was humorous given how she was part snake, and this venom was directed completely at the members of the mob. Xiayu hissed angrily at the mob, glad that was able to at least seem dangerous, and they moved away from her very afraid of the "big bad demon" |

Cyrus frowned, he didn't like being between a rock and a hard place. The crowd wanted one thing while Cyrus wanted another. The people here were full of passion and hatred. The female snake-woman could have pulled her snake tail off like a pair of pants, fully show a pair of human legs among other anatomical parts, do a little dance for them all- and they still would think she was a demon. Gods, the Inquisition seemed to be spreading paranoia and fear more than it was fixing it. Things were complicated even further by the fact that Cyrus was supposed to be representing the Inquisition in the first place! Although in such a situation as this, the knight wasn't all that happy to have the job. The snake woman finally adressed Cyrus directly, she towered over them all as she brought herself to her full height. Luckily, someone such as Cyrus couldn't get shaken so easily. The knight listened to her aggressive remarks before mentally-face palming, her behavior wasn't exactly doing much to help her cause here at the moment. Perhaps if Cyrus just tried to reason with the crowd they might see how foolish this was? "People this isn't a demon- why would one lone snake-woman wander out into broad daylight for all to see?" the knight asked, although he got an unexpected reply. "-But there have already been sightings of a snake-demon around town! What's worse, it's said to be kidnapping children!" the man from before replied, getting a "-what?" from Cyrus although it sounded more like a disgruntled 'Wat' as he looked back to the female creature that was hissing angrily at them all. This new information certainly changed things, the circumstances were sorely against the woman's fortunes, this crowd genuinely thought she was kidnapping kids and whatnot. Even if the woman was innocent, there was still the greater issue of the disappearances going on around town. Cyrus would have to start investigating once this was done with. "If you don't kill her- then we will instead!" one voice cried, getting a loud rally of cheers and cries as they all chanted the words 'kill the snake' loudly over and over again. Unless cyrus acted quick, he was going to witness a murder here in this alley. "Alright I'll tell you what- just to prove to you that this woman is innocent, I'll hunt this freak down myself" he said, calming the crowd a bit, it seemed that this was a somewhat acceptable compromise. "You still have to take here with you!" another voice yelled, getting some shouts of agreement in response. "-We don't want her kind just wandering around the streets" one of them cried, exciting the mob once again. Cryus frowned, the people had spoken, this thing was going to have to stick with him unless it wanted to get killed. The next question though would be if the female-snake creature was okay with all of this and if she would comply- there was nothing Cyrus could do if she refused these terms. |

In a moment of arrogance Xiayu began to harbour thoughts that perhaps all of the people who lived in Fiore's small towns were un-educated simpletons; little more than idiotic peasants who jumped at the nearest target for their hatred. Call her selfish but the only reason the half-snake cared about these peasant's stupidity was because it adversely affected her. Xiayu really wished she could teach these peasants a lesson about blindly singly those you think are responsible for crimes. Xiayu was happy to see that this knight, whoever he was, happened to side with her in this regard and pushed for the possibility that she wasn't a demon. It was a relief that at least one person here was on Xiayu's side. Despite the knight's insistence that Xiayu wasn't a snake, which coming from a respected member of society hopefully carried a lot of weight, the crowd still refused to accept it. Apparently the reason for this misunderstanding was because a snake like demon had been seen and was responsible for kidnapping children. "So you jump at the first snake like creature you see... Did it ever occur to you that if I was a snake demon why wouldn't I be trying anything? You lot have successfully cornered me and I've not put up a fight, despite my threats." A few faces in the crowd suddenly seemed to start doubting their conviction as there faces took on insecure expressions. The issue of the disappearing children was something Xiayu really didn't care about, not know anyway. Had these stupid peasants not gone out and straight up blamed her for the missing children or threatened her perhaps she would have cared enough to help them in the matter but alas these stupid people didn't consider that possibility. The knight volunteered to hunt down the snake demon himself just to prove Xiayu's innocence which was the best bit of news she heard all day; maybe now she could slip away from this crowd and get out of the town before people took extreme measures. And that was when the crowd demanded Cyrus take Xiayu with him amid many sort of racist response. ""Her kind" is not how you refer to someone if you want said person to do something for you" By this point Xiayu had lowered herself down returning to the height at which she normally stood at. What where her options in this situation? Well she could easily refuse the terms being forced on her and try to leave but it was unlikely the crowd would let that happen or.. she could go with Cyrus and work to prove her innocence. As much as Xiayu was loath to do anything for the people that wanted to kill her, had treated her like a monster and now had the gall to direct racist comments towards her..she knew she didn't really have much choice. "Guess I'm with you handsome~" Xiayu spent a few moments looking intently at Cyrus's face and she realised that he was actually rather handsome which combined with how he stood up meant that maybe proving her innocence wouldn't be such a massive chore after all. Hearing this agreement the crowd slowly started to disperse returning to their day to day affairs. Some members of the crowd spat at Xiayu as they left and the half snake really struggled to hold her forked tongue back for the urge to teach these stupid peasants a lesson was rather difficult to ignore. Luckily the half-snake managed to control her self and simply let the crowd leave peacefully. Edited by LunarCataphract, Feb 17 2015, 12:39 PM.

Cyrus watched as the snake woman chastised the crowd that had grown ignorant with fear. No matter how hard the knight tried to shake it, he couldn't help but feel like the Inquisition was causing a frenzy all throughout the kingdom. People wanted to point fingers, even if it dulled their senses along the way. Still, both parties seemed able to agree to the terms that Cyrus had suggested for them: having the supposed-demon woman stay with Cyrus while they brought the real culprit to justice. Maybe at the end of all this the knight could put some common sense back into the people's minds and make them think a little harder about the various non-humans that lived around Fiore rather than simply labeling them all as demonic. The crowd begrudgingly dispersed, casting angry looks at the non-human and a few at Cyrus himself who simply met the challenges with a cold and unfeeling stare. His black sunglasses were placed upon their usual perch, the only thing they'd be seeing would be their own unfortunate reflections walking by as they left the alleyway. As the majority of people had left, Cyrus suddenly found himself alone with the half-snake half-woman hybrid that he had somehow gotten roped into helping. She walked- I mean slithered, over to where the knight was standing, she got a little to comfortable a little too quickly for the knight to appreciate. Now that the knight finally got a clear view of her, Cyrus was slightly surprised by what he saw. She was more human that he had originally thought. Her black snake tail was much longer than the knight had originally known, although the way she rose up could have indicated such a feature. To be honest, from the waist up she looked completely normal. Long purple hair and an impressively huge pair- personality.... The knight said, catching himself as he let his eyes gaze a little too long as the female approached him. "Before we start, it'd probably be a good idea for me to know your name and what you are- since just referring to you as snake-woman in my head seems a little ostentatious" he said with a tilt of his head. Regardless, he extended his hand for the woman to shake, "Private Sawyer, it's a pleasure to meet you" he said, getting formalities out of the way. He was not fond of telling people his first name frivolously, it was sort of a niche about him that came along with his black sunglasses which he never took off. Once they had introduced themselves they could start the impossibly tedious task of hunting down the real demon that was somewhere around here. Hell, the knight had no idea where to begin searching, "Don't suppose you might know where to find a demonic snake creature slithering around then do you?" he asked with a small chuckle before looking around the alleyway, "-either way, I'm afraid I don't know where to begin searching" he said with a shrug, anywhere was a fair guess. |

This Demon Inquisition was slowly turning out to a massive annoyance for Xiayu. The half-snake knew why it had been created and agreed that revenge against those who tried to destroy your country was indeed an understandable goal but what she couldn't tolerate was how stupid some people were being about it. The crowd that accused Xiayu of being a demon were not the first to do so however they were the first who tried to kill her over it. Personally the half-snake didn't want to assist Sawyer in this matter but she didn't exactly have much in the way of a choice. Cyrus stared at Xiayu for a rather long time, specially focusing on her endowments, which was something that she had noticed and was amused by. A confident knowing smirk grew across the half-snake's lips and she chuckled before stretching her arms out. "You know..I don't mind when people look. I'm used to be the target of many a gaze." It may have sounded flirtatious and coy, which truth be told it was, but it also happened to be her way of saying it was fine if Cyrus stared at her so hopefully the knight would pick up on that less than obviousness meaning. Names would be a good place to start with introduces as not only would it be rude to call Sawyer the "sun glasses wearing knight" it was also rather impersonal and kind of a mouthful to say in conversation. Xiayu extend her soft feminine and loosely grasped Sawyer's, shaking it and smiling at him her eyes focusing upon his face. "Well it is a pleasure to meet you Private but I feel first names would be better no? So with that in mind I am Xiayu Serpentera." Now that the danger was gone and she had relaxed a little, Xiayu's voice was softer and more gentle but clear and easy to hear; it could best be described as a mixture between strength and gentleness. Xiayu did have some ideas of where she could find a snake demon, quite a few ones at that, but the problem was they weren't one hundred percent accurate guesses. "Well..if we were looking for just a snake then..I'd search possible snake habits but of course this is a demon snake. Hmm..thinking about it logically the demon would need a place where he can hide the kidnapped children as well as being able to hide their himself." The half-snake rubbed her chin in thought and soon a confident chuckle crossed her lips as she had a good guess now. "As generic and..expected as this sounds I can really only think of sewers being the hiding place..unless the basements are connected" She was definitely far more than a pretty face. |

Cyrus raised an eyebrow out from under his black sunglasses at Xiayu's flirtatious comment. The knight may not have been the brightest lightbulb available when it came to comments like that, but even he could tell what the snake-woman was trying to say. "I can see why" he said, shooting back with a 'less than obvious' statement of his own. Oh well, it was best not to get too attached to strangers, one often shed them quite quickly- an ironic statement since he was talking to a part-snake woman after all. As for first names, Cyrus wasn't a fan of simply telling people his name so easily- especially when he had only just met them. The blond had learned the hard way back during his adventure with Ranth Amanite just how crucial it was to have some aspect of anonymity to you. Still, the woman had been courteous enough to give her full name, it would have been rude for the knight to flat-out lie about his like he had with others. "Cyrus Sawyer" he said, noting the difference in the woman's voice now that the immediate threat had passed. Of course there were still some to come, that much was certain, they just had to find out where on earth they were going first. Xiayu gave some valid ideas, seeing as how she was part snake she might have had some insight which the knight didn't- plus he thought that what applied to one snake applied to them all somewhat, it was a silly premise but it was worth a shot. Still, there was something that Xiayu said which Cyrus yet again raised an eyebrow at, "Who ever said he was hiding them" the knight said, implying that a more grim fate could have befallen the missing children. It was a worse-case scenario, but it was necessary to address it if they wanted to think about this with an open mind. "The sewers sound like a good place to start, yes... Although I'm not a fan, I'll admit" he said, remembering how he had a rather traumatizing experience the last time he had been stomping around the sewage system underneath a city. "It's all we have right now really" the knight said, before looking around, "There should be a manhole around here somewhere" he asserted, since in these situations a manual tended to be conveniently nearby when one needed it to. |

Awwww was that all? Xiayu had been hoping that Sawyer would make some sort of humorous flirtatious comment of his own but no sadly he did not which apart from being a disappoint had little bearing on the current situation. Feel free to call the half-snake whatever it was you wanted to but she got a great amount of enjoying when embarrassing cute people but sadly Sawyer was neither cute or easily embarrassed so she decided to simply abandon that rather silly pursuit. Xiayu preferred the name Cyrus over Sawyer due to how it made their relationship seem a lot more personal despite the fact it was not; it was a weird thing for Xiayu to enjoy but she enjoyed it regardless. Honestly the thought that the children were dead had crossed Xiayu's mind, after all the demons that had invaded Fiore all those months weren't exactly keen on keeping the people alive not that Xiayu was actually a part of that or anything."Hmm..I won't deny I didn't consider that possibility..but of course we shouldn't just..assume the worse no? And I agree that the sewers aren't my favorite place..my outfit is going to be ruined." The fact Xiayu's outfit was going to ruined by the sewers, they were rather messy locations after all not to mention that they stink something vile. Cyrus said there was a man hole and he was correct as about ten feet away a manhole cover was visible. Xiayu slithered towards the man hole cover and looked down at it suddenly realising that she lacked the equipment to open the manhole. "Think you can get it open Cyrus? Or should we go and take a crowbar from someone?" The question of where to find a crowbar may or may not be relevant depending upon Cyrus's capability to open the manhole cover or not. It was possible for the half-snake to try herself but she really didn't want to if avoiding it was possible. If Cyrus did need a crowbar to get the manhole cover open then well...Xiayu really wouldn't be able to do that; after all it was unlikely that the residents of the town would willingly give her a crowbar given their distrust for her. |

When Xiayu asked if Cyrus could open up the manhole leading down to the sewers the knight simply responded by lifting the metal cover off the ground- easy peesy lemon squeezy. "Tally Ho" Cyrus muttered to himself, the dank smell of the sewers instantly coming up to greet his nose- it was a sensation which the knight wasn't all too keen on having to experience any further. Nonetheless, the knight found himself hopping down into the dark hole silently and landing in the waterways of the area underground Oshibana. His shoes landed in the water with a sickening 'SQUELCH', the knight could only wonder just what foul substance he was walking through. Leisurely he looked back up at the snake-woman, "Well then?" he asked. The man would stare up at the hole a bit longer anyways just to see how the woman would get down considering she didn't have any legs- was she able to climb down using the ladder? It was a mildly interesting dilemma since it was a solid ten or so feet from the surface level to the sewer floor where Cyrus was standing. Once the two had were in the noxiously comforting confines of the sewer system, they could properly start their hunt- although admittedly it was more torture than anything else. The knight had to breath through his mouth most of the time to prevent himself from keeling over at the disgusting smell. As they walked/slithered along, Cyrus decided to try and provoke some form of conversation with the woman, "So then. I can see you are a snake-woman hybrid, but what are you in technical terms?" he asked, wondering about the other's race. He had heard of half-fox demons being called Hanyou or of serpent ones being called Naga, yet Xiayu prompted a race which the knight had not yet seen nor heard of before. He was interested more than alarmed by the woman's appearance, "What can you do then in a fight" he added on, if they did end up finding a demon down in these sewers it was almost guaranteed that they'd have a fight on their hands in one shape or another- it would be valuable to have known just what his pseudo-parter could do. As they went along, the two would be able to hear a distinctive moaning sound. At first weak and faint, the sound eventually began to get louder and louder- either they were getting close to something or something was getting close to them. Either way, there was certainly some suspicious activity going on down here. Yet, as the knight listened he couldn't help but feel like the moaning sound was somewhat echo'y, as if there were multiple sources moaning in unison rather than a single unit doing so. It was something to bear in mind, but for now Cyrus simply walked through the dark quietly with Xiayu by his side. |
