so basically the rules on barrier breaking assume the technique is a ranged one, but what about ones that are used in cohesion with some sort of weapon? I.e if i had a b rank sword and casted a barrier breaking spell on it, would it still do -damage if it hits a higher or equal rank, or would it do the same damage it normally would + the damage of the technique, here is the actual spell Unstoppable Spear - 5 Type: Offensive, Barrier break Range: 10ft (3.3m) Effect: Focusing magic onto the tips of the user kagune they are able to boost the kagnes piercing abilities, and can break barriers of equal, lesser, or higher rank. This move has a duration of 4 posts and a cooldown of 2, it can hit up to four times (once per tentacle) and once it hits it dissipates. Edited by Spider-Jay, Dec 13 2014, 04:47 AM.

Yeah, that wording wouldn't fly. I highly doubt barrier-piercing techs would be anything but a single attack, lest you sacrifice effectiveness. Random, learned guess, but shield-piercing would probably only serve to break barriers of EQUAL RANKL in a single move, instead of having to attack more than once. Lower ranks would probably be pierced whereas it wouldn't change the rules for shields of higher rank at all. |

ok, so no multiple strikes? but that still doesn't answer my question of how much damage it would actually do |

Barrier breaking techniques do normal damage for their rank. If they hit a magical barrier of the same rank, they will pierce it but the damage it will do following that will have a -3 penalty with a minimum of 1. If the barrier technique is a rank higher than tour penetrating technique then the penalty is -5 with a minimum of 1. So, to answer your question, your Rank 3 barrier breaking technique would deal Light damage unless it hit a barrier. If the barrier is hit then the aformentioned penalties apply. |

but what if it is on the end of say a A rank item, would the item still do the damage it would normally do? |

Yeah, it works like normal. It's just however hard that item would hit with the additional damage from the technique. It works like that in virtually all cases since you're just empowering the item with that technique. It wouldn't stop the item from doing damage unless it expressly stated so. |
