We're Getting Paid Again:
The Grand Restart of Sorcerer MagazineHello everyone,
and welcome (back) to Sorcerer Magazine 2.0!
As you all know, recently we were under some heavy financial stress, but now that we have had our financial future secured, our little squad of reporters, journalists, editors, and that one guy that's there but we don't know what he does - we're back!
Yes, and since we have returned with a fiery zeal that hopefully won't burn out like last time, I would like to be the first to thank you, our dedicated readers, for staying with us through our many ups and downs. Once again, I promise everyone that Sorcerer Magazine will be dedicated to covering all the current events and interesting knowledge that we have so long prided ourselves upon, from interviews with mages and experts to all the happenings and gossip circulating around the mage community!
After a long period of consideration, we have decided to start anew as Sorcerer Magazine 2.0 - this is to give us all a fresh start, while keeping us the same household name that all you mages and seekers of magic-related things have come to know and love.
So, without further ado - thank you all for your patience! We promise not to disappoint!
- Samuel J. Wulfenschmirtz, Editor in Chief
Recent Happenings
- Belladonna: There has been a recent outbreak of youth gangs, the likes of which have been unprecedented in the history of the otherwise-peaceful home of Lamia Scale. Civilians have been instructed to refrain from going out at night, while requests for handling of these groups of delinquent youngsters from both mages and knights have increased substantially.
- Rhyane Falls: Rumors of ghost sightings have been affecting business in the region, or rather, increasing the influx of ghost-sighters while diminishing the numbers of couples and love-seekers in the last few weeks. Residents and local businesses are calling for authorities to figure out the cause behind these strange events.
- Ach'Var: The local government of Ach'Var has posted an official request for people to help handle the local 'Danger Beasts' after a seasonal low in hunters; due to the increased numbers of undesirable wildlife, Ach'Var has had its vacation ratings dropped by at least a grade throughout virtually all tourism bureaus and companies.
- Mizhou: The season of feasting is upon us again; in Mizhou, that means two things: large amounts of cheap and excellent food, and terrible rivalries and tensions between the fourteen neighborhoods. Tourists and visitors are suggested to try the international fare, but should stay as far away from areas of conflict as possible. Sin Alley, Silvermane, and Shaoci District are especially dangerous this time of year.
Chrysanthemum Unveils Memorial Honoring Bosco War VeteransLast Saturday, the city of Chrysanthemum officially opened the Bosco War Veteran Memorial, honoring the valiant patriotism and noble sacrifices of those who fought to defend Fiore from the Boscan Invasion early last year. Funded by a coalition of veteran service agencies, mage guilds, and the Knights of Fiore, the Bosco War Veterans Memorial was originally planned to be opened earlier this year; construction was delayed due to bad weather and a highly controversial memorial design competition.
Led by Colonel David Tosca II, son of the late General Tosca, and representatives of the major mage guilds, the opening ceremony included a memorial service to honor the fallen and remember the courage of those who gave everything for the sake of their country. The service began at nine in the morning, under a cloudy sky. Attendees included local citizens, knights, and mages, including several veterans of the Bosco War. None of the three candidates for the throne were present, but each of them sent a delegation to the service.
Several minor disputes rose among the congregation when it was noted that several dark guild members were present at the service; investigation reveals that all major guilds were invited to attend, regardless of legality. Colonel Tosca II, when asked, had this to say:
"Regardless of their current status, we cannot deny the role of those who shed blood with the knights during the war. Inviting them to this service does not change our stance on dark mages, but it would be wrong not to acknowledges that members of these guilds also lost their lives fighting for Fiore."Pictures taken of him emotionally embracing a Tartaros representative are now being used by anti-knight advocacy groups, in the debate surrounding the status of the current organization of the Knights of Fiore.
The Bosco War Veteran Memorial includes the Statue of Hope, displaying a group of soldiers raising a Fiorean flag, as well as the Field of Fire, an open plot of land containing an array of weapons used by fallen Fiorean soldiers. The most controversial structure in the memorial is the Wyvernslayer's Wall - a length of green lacrima with the names of the deceased inscribed upon it. The wall has the subject of controversy ever since its inception, as it is named after a mage whose sacrifice proved to be crucial for Fiorean victory during the war. This same mage was later discovered to also be a member of the infamous Grimoire Heart.
The memorial is located in northern Chrysanthemum, and is open 24/7. Admission is free.
A Cup o' Tea:
An Interview with Mark ApolloHello everyone, I'm Coco G., and welcome to "A Cup o' Tea", our interview segment! Every issue, we sit down with someone worth knowing in the mage community, and see what they have to bring to us and to you all! The hottest gossip? The newest inventions? The latest discoveries? Who knows!
Our interviewee this issue is none other than the famed explorer and member of Quatro Cerberus, Mark Apollo! Now, let's not dilly-dally and get down to it!
Coco: Hello, Mr. Apollo! It's a pleasure to finally meet you!
Mark: No, no, the pleasure's all mine. Congrats on the restart of your magazine thing.
Coco: Okay, let's get down to it: Tell our readers a bit about yourself, Mr. Apollo. Who are you? What do you do?
Mark: Well, I'm an S-class member of Quatro Cerberus, so as you might guess I'm a mage - but most of the requests that I take involve expeditions to explore new places or find lost relics.
Coco: Ooh, how exciting! So you're an adventurer?
Mark: Oh, definitely. I travel all the time, even when I'm not taking on jobs; I've got some cartography skills, so I like making maps of places in my spare time, and I've got a bit of drawing skills too - you have no idea how useful it is to just sketch down whatever you see and look for it in the archives later.
Coco: Since we're talking about archives - tell us a bit more about your magic.
Mark: I'm not an archive mage, that's for sure. -laughs- No, I've got Take-Over Magic running through my veins.
Coco: Take-Over Magic? What kind, if you could tell us?
Mark: Oh, it's just normal Take-Over, nothing of those cool themed sorts that you see people with - I just turn into the animals that I encounter when I'm out. I've actually got quite a nice collection of forms, but wow, you have no idea how hard it was to obtain some of them.
Coco: What's your favorite thing to transform into?
Mark: Well, since I do travel a lot, it's nice to have a a form that lets me get anywhere I want to go fast - so a flying form is the natural choice. I once caught a Vesselbeak, now I use it whenever I want to get around. The view from the sky is simply fantastic, makes for great sketches later on. Of course, I've got one or two forms that I went through hell to obtain, but those are a secret. Every mage worth his salt has got to keep a few things to himself, right?
Coco: Well, I guess so. What are your plans right now, though?
Mark: -smiles- I'm going to be heading to Desierto for a trip, hopefully not too long.
Coco: A trip? What for?
Mark: Well, I
am a Take-Over mage - I'm going to go look for Jehn Mohran.
Coco: Annnnnnd that's all the time we have today, folks! Thanks for reading, and good luck to you, Mr. Apollo!
Editor's Notes: As of this time, we have yet to be able to contact Mr. Apollo since his departure three weeks ago.
