"How do I look?"

Mission Details Titus had taken the flier with him so that nobody else could try to snatch his opportunity away at ranking up in the Knights of Fiore, considering that very few of them was worth his time. He had seen countless fliers requesting that the Knights escort them to and fro, ask for their help doing household chores, or even delivering packages like some mailman. None of those were and ever would be considered worthy tasks by Titus, but rather abuse of the public's open requests availability. There were certainly more important tasks at hand out there, especially for the higher ranked individuals in the Knights of Fiore. Not that Titus wanted to ruin his chances at moving up, but rather wanting to prove he was too good for his currently low ranking position, he had stolen a request on the board for Corporal ranks. By the time he got to Trillium from Chrysanthemum, there was no word that anything had happened and he figured that he had gotten off scott free. If there was any danger of him actually getting in trouble, they'd probably let him off due to his size or his father's status in the Knights of Fiore. However, Titus wasn't one that wanted to live up to his father's expectations, but rather to exceed it. He never planned to be a shadow of a greater man, but to create a shadow that would be impossible to fill. In the event that he did have kids at some later point in his life, the only thing he'd be able to tell 'em is "Tough luck, you're going to have to work your ass off to fill these shoes." It didn't help that his extreme height made his shoes even bigger, but that was taking it a bit too literally. He opened the note so that he could ensure that he was heading the right way, "I bet they call it haunted because nobody has the guts to go in it." Most normal citizens didn't have much courage and something like this, a simple house of all things, was able to scare them. Titus pitied these people, they really didn't have a knack for adventure and would never make it a day in the titan's shoes. He kept his pace up, walking down the blocks leading up to the house at the dead-end of a road, "Oh, come on. You can't be serious." It sounded like some made up campfire story, with its location at the far side of a dead-end, its features looking grim and rustic, and having a large dead lawn in front. With a sigh, he marched on, "There better be some brats playing pranks in there or something." Edited by Pumpkin, Oct 24 2014, 05:35 AM.

It was night time as the moonlight shown into the creepy manor. The place was littered with wild greenery and vines that had become part of this strange place. They had grown up the walls, and nearly overflowed into the streets of Trillium. The house looked like to be the home to a rich person, someone of high standing in Trillium-- or some corrupt rich bastard who got his money through some other horrible way. Either way, no sign of residence was there. When the vines overtook the place, you knew the place was long gone. Her mind did wander as to perhaps some treasure hidden in the mansion, but something else far more serious and concerning was in the witch's mind. At that moment she arrived upon the wall which boxed in the mansion and vines. She sat upon it, her legs dangling over as she was dressed in her usual black and orange witch's robes. She seemed leisurely upon the wall, the moon behind her. "Its unlike you to take a job like this," a sassy voice spoke beside her. Hopping up the wall soon appeared the woman's companion, a black furred black cat. Of course she was no ordinary cat. She was an exceed, with black and streaks of violet in her fur, with paw-gloves that accented her claws. She judged Syeena in a kind greeting, then sat down at the scene below. "Hoping to find something interesting?" Syeena didn't pay much mind to the cat's sarcasm. If Grimore Heart knew she took a job to 'save' people, she might of been teased for a bit. But she didn't care what they thought. She did what she wanted, when she wanted to. She needed no approval. "Let's just say , some things are more important to find on the job," she told her cat. As she was scanning over the area from above, she looked to see movement. Curious she looked past a few vines ahead, and found someone-- a built type of man with cannons on his person. He appeared to be there trying to brave into the wicked garden. Syeena smirked behind her hood, amused by the company. "Looks like we have a friend to play with us, Hex," she addressed to the cat beside her. "Should we greet him? " As it was more rhetorical, Syeena got up and began to catwalk along the wall. As she got closer, she kept a view from above. She watched the stranger as he moved through the garden entrance, wondering how she should approach him. |

Titus strolled into the front lawn, crunching the dead grass beneath his boots. He walked towards the front door and hollered out for someone while he knocked on the rotting wood of the door, "Hello, is anyone in there?" The door creaked open as he rapped his knuckles on it, but he didn't intend to trespass without insuring there was nobody here first. After another attempt to call out for the inhabitants that were not there, he walked down the steps and around the house. A gate surrounded a decently sized garden in the back, but it was locked. There was a small section of the white faded wood busted out that could easily allow a child or small animal to pass through, but Titus was tall enough that he could easily step over the inadequate security perimeter. The grass back here had somehow maintained its growth, far in contrast of what was in the front lawn. In fact, it appeared to have gone untreated for a while as it rose to his ankles, "That's odd." He was no landscaper, but this was definitely unnatural. Vines grew up the inside walls of the fence, while small shrubbery was periodically placed along the fence to enclose the garden some more and add some variety. He stepped around one of them, but ended up stepping on some small plastic item. Removing his foot and picking up the pieces, he'd find that it was a child's toy shovel, "Oh, that's peculiar. Perhaps there's more to this myth than I thought." He tossed it back down and worked his way towards the center of the garden, next to the large and ornate fountain. "Man, this is like some sort of miniature park, isn't it?" With the landscape kept up so well, excluding the grass, it looked rather beautiful. The flowers placed in a circle around the concrete leading up to the fountain helped to bring shape to the design, while the vast contrast of the fading fence and house against the bright, vivid colors of the flowers and greenery made for a sight for sore eyes. However, one thing stood out beyond belief. Littered amongst the ground were small toys, ranging from wooden cars to baby dolls. It was surely a creepy sight when you considered the request, but people don't just magically disappear. This wasn't a horror book of any sort, "Well, might as well head in." There was nobody outside to his knowledge and he didn't see any other entrances so he hopped the fence and went back towards the front door. |

Syeena followed the man as he entered the gates of the garden. While the mansion was still a bit away, he was getting closer. Realizing he was investigating the missing children, she tailed him silently. Hex followed her just as quiet. She was a cat after all. Being quiet was part of her talents. She saw as he uncovered the toys that were left behind. Quite a few. It was likely that the children missing came here as a club house or something, and unaware of any type of dangers. As Titus was examining the items, Syeena figured it was a good a time as any to make a good entrance. With a flick of her wrist, she conjured one of her cards-- a thin piece of metal designed and looking like any type of card from a Tarot Card. The picture was that of a sword or dagger. A mischevious glint was in her eye behind her hood as she soon stopped , then threw the card. The sound of a slice and strike on the ground would very well startle Titus, causing him to turn around. As he would likely examine the card, Syeena smirked. In the blink of an eye, she vanished. "Somehow I don't think your the tree trimmer," Syeena joked, coming now right behind Titus when he would likely look at the card she had thrown. The woman in black and orange had suddenly appeared directly behind him. She had teleported-- to the general location of the card she had thrown. She stood casually, an attractive flare to her stature as she greeted Titus. "Taking a little stroll through the garden, are we?" she teased. Seeing her friend jump to the knight, Hex took the time to climb down. Finding some vines, the cat clawed into them and used them to scale down. As she got half way, she jumped down the rest and soon sprinted towards them. "I think he is a knight, Syeena," Hex the cat said, looking up at them, and examining the weapons he carried. "So what brings you here, handsome?" the cat teased as well. |

"How do I look?"

To Titus's knowledge, there wasn't anyone in the nearby vicinity. He wasn't particularly looking for anyone or paying attention to the areas outside the yard so the mage that had been stalking him certainly had an easy time doing so, but he wasn't concerned for anything that didn't have to do with the assignment. He had gotten to the steps to the porch when he heard a sharp sound, but he didn't turn around at first. He thought that he had actually stepped on another toy that he hadn't seen and looked down, but there was nothing broken beneath the large boots that he lifted up. He looked over his shoulder just as the original source of the sound began to speak, "Oh, well hello there." He turned so that he was facing towards the woman that had piqued an interest in Titus's matters, while a cat ran up to join the duo, "I'm no landscaper, just here on a tour of sorts." Perhaps this was the woman that owned the house or possibly even the one behind the kids' disappearance so he couldn't be too certain what information to discuss. Once the cat had approached, it actually spoke up, calling Titus out to be a Knight. Granted, it was fairly obvious considering he was decked out with his chainsword on his back and pistol at his hip. He couldn't imagine that there were many mages out there that chose to use weapons over their magic. Even exquip mages weren't as keen on keeping their weaponry out as Titus was, but that would soon be fixed once he returned to Chrysanthemum after he figured out what was going on here in Trillium. "Looking for some children, you know, 'fee fi fo fum' and the rest of the notion." He wasn't sure if he should take a compliment from a cat, but he didn't acknowledge it. Instead, he moved more towards on the offense of seeing if these two happened to know anything about the house, "Say, might the two of you be from around here? I've come to investigate the recent rumors on the disappearances that have been all over the papers as of late. Figured it was just some prank or social media stunt that some kids were doing to get in the news." He looked down at the cat and back to the woman in front of him, "Do either of the two of you know anything about this shoddy house?" |

Syeena hoped to startle him a bit. She liked playing mysterious and teasing , but the burly looking knight was not biting at her act. She still kept her smirk though, clearly seeing he was capable too. Most of the time, teleporting in on someone would surprise anyone. "A bit late for a stroll, and I think business hours closed. But then again, this isn't an official establishment either." she mused aloud. Hex soon went over to Syeena. The cat soon hopped up towards her, and she extended her arm to catch her. Hex then quickly climbed up her arm and came to her shoulder, perching on her back as she watched Titus from the woman's shoulder as Syeena continued. "Oh, your looking for them too? Fancy that," she said in mild interest. Slowly walking beside Titus, she leaned down and picked up the card she had thrown onto the ground. Picking it up, she soon made it vanish back into her inventory-- her exquip magic at work as the card glowed and vanished. "I don't know about this place. ONly it was abandoned. The house is abandoned, and now haunted by these weeds. I like gardens but this place is in bad taste," she said as she looked over the house. The vines were withered but strong. They were ugly, crawling over the place with no control. There was just no real beauty to them, and seemed more creepy than natural. "As for the children, about 6 were reported missing. I find it strange a simple garden has claimed them. Either way, I intend to find them," Syeena said, putting most suspicions to rest-- all except the fact that she sneaked up on Titus. |

As it just so happened to turn out, this individual happened to be looking for the missing children as well. At least that's what she said she was doing, but she was making herself to appear less and less like whoever was behind this bizzare case. She picked up the card that was sitting on the ground, one that Titus had never actually seen in the first place, and she let it vanish into thin air. "Oh, she must be an exquip mage." If this person was actually responsible for something like this, the last thing they would do was reveal their magic unless they were mentally deranged. Luckily, for her, she didn't appear to be all that loony, "Yeah, I've got to agree with you there. I grew up on a farm and my mother would kill me if I ever let anything, house or land, get this bad." It was odd how ugly the front yard looked compared to the back, even if they both weren't upkept much. It was almost magical in that way, which brought even more questions to his mind. She explained that only six children was officially reported missing, which was more than Titus had expected, "Oh, I didn't know that. I figured a child or two had disappeared and, by then, local parents would have had the wisdom to keep their children away." Some parents certainly weren't qualified to be parents and this really shouldn't have gotten to the extent that it had, unless all six children had been there at the same time. He nodded his head, thinking to himself what might be going on, before looking at the mage and her cat, "Well, thanks for the report. If you're actually here in interest of finding the children, you're more than welcome to accompany me. However, I must get back to looking for them and the cause for all of this." He turned around, walked up to the door and went to knock, but before his gauntlets could strike the door again, the door creaked open on its own, "Oh, how wonderful. Thank you." He didn't hesitate though and kept on moving until he was in the entry way, but nearly ten seconds after he would pass through the doorway, it would slam and lock itself closed. It would likely lock him and the duo inside, depending on if she had actually followed afterwards. |

Syeena gave a huff at Titus. While he did welcome her help, it was obvious there was a little distrust. Even worse if he were to find out that she was from Grimore Heart. Her involvement with this mission was not official, but she still took it on anyway. In the reality of her actions, she had a caring side. Missing children fell under one of those things that triggered that side, and Hex knew it. In reality, while her actions and views were different, she was still a caring woman. "I don't need your permission to get involved. I'll do as I see fit," she said as she walked in. Had the door not opened all on its own, she would of just assumed Titus opened the door for her . "If I didn't know better, I would think someone is welcoming us." The inside of the garden/mansion was a mess with vines, just like everything else. THere were scattered objects-- furniture, paintings, pottery. It was once a wealthy home till the vines took over. Syeena strolled in slowly, with Hex on her shoulders looking around cautiously. The cat kept close but her claws in check so as to not puncture Syeena's back and hurt her. Syeena kept a hand on her cat's back, comforting her. "Haunted house... you would be right at home here, Syeena," Hex joked-- the cat's little way of coping with a scary situation. Syeena ignored her for the moment, and knelt down to some vines-- and upon lifting it, they found a small wooden toy train. "Looks like I found something. A child's toy... its clear these kids used this place to play... what could of happened to them..." she thought aloud as she looked around. |

This place was certainly a bizarre one... If someone know better, this would be prime estate for creating a haunted house. With the unkept garden and now a door that opened on its own, it was like out of a children's horror book. One of those where little Timmy would get dared by all his elementary school friends to go upstairs into the room that had the spooky ghost appearing in the window, but he would never return. His friends would wait outside until night time and at that point, they would give up all hope in ever seeing Timmy again. They would go home and never speak about it again, thinking that the news would be reporting a missing child with a local search group. He was probably dead, yeah, most likely dead. Then the next day would come, they would show up at school and Timmy would be there. He'd have a wide eyed stare and they all knew that something had happened. Unfortunately, these children had never shown back up. It was never that easy, but obviously the first place to check would be upstairs. Titus didn't know if there was a downstairs so he figured he'd walk around the main floor first and see if there was anything of interest here. Behind him was the mysterious mage, whom had accepted Titus's invite to join him on this hunt. Paying more attention to the randomly dispersed toys on the property, she find one in a vine along the floor, "Yeah, that's not the only one too. I would understand it better if they were in the front yard or even only in the back yard, but it's almost as if these kids had an open invitation to this house." He wanted to know if there was anyone that lived here at the time with any care for kids or if it was just self-invitation, it'd definitely make solving this a lot easier. He walked throughout the living room and dining room, seeing nothing more than old rustic pieces of artwork, cobwebs, and withered vines all around. However, when he got into the kitchen, he noticed that there was no cutlery, only spoons, forks, and other unsharpened utensils, "Hey, kitty and co., there's no knives here. Watch your step." He finished clearing the main floor and began walking up the stairway to the second floor, but only made it about half way up before one of the steps was crushed beneath his massive weight. It kind of surprised him, considering he didn't think the house was that run down, "Oh, shit. Watch your step." She was probably less than a third of his weight, but he was going to be a hell of a lot more careful now, himself. Once he was upstairs, he'd hear a steady tapping coming from inside one of the rooms. Waving the mage on over, he would wait to open the door. Little to his knowledge, what was on the other side wasn't a child. |

As Titus explored the kitchen area, she began to explore the lower part of the grand hall. Aside from the broken furniture, the place was plain in terms of clues. However, she did notice something about the vines. On a few of the vines, flowers could be seen-- white flowers that sprouted from random places on the vines. What their significance was, she didn't know at the moment. At that time, Titus began to make his way up the stairs. Hex simply jumped off Syeena's shoulders and with the grace and skill of a cat as she was, the black Exceed cat began to make her way up the stairs. She was light weight enough and more agile than bulky Titus and she quickly scampered up the stairs without him. Syeena had her own way to get up the stairs. "Thanks, but I don't do stairs," she said playfully as she drew another card from her inventory, her fingertips glowing to reveal another card. With a spin, she threw the card up into the second floor wall, lodging it in place. IN the blink of an eye, Syeena was gone from her spot on the ground, and appeared right before Titus' eyes in what appeared to be a blend of lights. She was up in the air for a brief second before she landed on the ground of the second floor, this one being more sturdy. She waited for Titus as Hex joined her, a purr on the cat's lips as she nuzzled her friend. Syeena was waiting with a hand on her hip, showing off to Titus. However, something was amiss. Hex's ears perked as she heard a sound and movement nearby. Turning her head, she looked to see something. The card that Syeena had struck into the wall, did lodge into one of the vines. NOt intentional but not good-- as the vines near it began to move. "Um...Syeena?" Hex warned, indicating her concern. Suddenly the vines behind Syeena began to move. She turned around quickly to see the vines suddenly rise from the ground, as if with wills of their own. They suddenly shot out-- aiming to attack Titus and Syeena. Hex quickly scampered away towards where Titus were as the vines were about to attack Syeena. However, she was agile. The witch jumped and flipped over the vines as they shot out at her, evading them for the time being. |
