There are many different ways one can go about supporting their candidate. Some people hand out flyers and try to recruit more supporters. Others give speeches to promote the merits of their candidate's policies. Some even try to get articles published in newspapers. Jane did something only average people choose to do: a bake sale. It didn't require as much effort as the other options and even a person relatively uninvolved with politics like her could participate. Several people from the city, mostly women, were running a small stand where they each displayed home-baked goods. Cookies, cupcakes, doughnuts, bagels, and other kinds of small foods people could just pick up and eat along their way. They set shop in a busy street in the middle of the city where several people passed by on their way to work, go shopping, or simply stroll by. So far they got good response from people. Some even recognized Jane as a member of the local guild and did her a favor by buying her ordinary looking cookies with the words "Vote for Franny" baked on with chocolate. But not all was as it should be. While originally an idea some housewives came up with to support Franceska people from other sides also became interested. The result was two more stands each supporting one of the princes positioned at other strategic points of the street. There was one stand at each major intersection so people coming and going from the main street would definitely come across the stands in their way. Many of the people on Jane's side were really annoyed by their idea getting copied like that but did their best not to show it. Some pretty shady characters occupied the other stands so theirs was still the most popular out there. Even Jane's completely ordinary cookies were selling well. If things kept going like that they would be sold out before evening. |

Blitz hadn't been here in awhile. Belladonna, that is. Granted, this place was a good place if you were looking for magically or technology-based wares, but it was a bit far. Blitz himself had little excuse, though, having teleport access to most of Fiore's major cities from his Bastion. Issue with that is that the teleportation functions were one-way at the moment - he hadn't finished the systems in their entirety, and didn't want people accidentally teleporting themselves into his house. Maybe I should put all the teleporters in a separate room with a locked door between them and the actual house, Blitz mused to himself. Keep out any unwanted guests that manage to stumble their way to my home. Blitz himself hadn't been to Belladonna for months. Last time he'd come here for some supplies, and ended up fighting a pair of rogue Celestial Spirits, the twins Gemini, who had bonded to a Celestial-Themed Takeover mage for a powerup. This visit looked to be a bit less hectic, as the main theme of the day here seemed to be not trading so much as rivalries for the upcoming election, with posters and graffiti everywhere. Blitz passed by the trader's corner, a building marking the entrance to the trading center of Belladonna, already inscribed with dozens of graffiti marks for various candidates. Well, as long as everyone else is doing it, he thought, pulling out his Light Pen and marking a large, purple F on the side of the building before tucking the pen back into his jacket pocket. "Why a purple F?" asked Shoop from atop his head. "I mean, I get why it's an F, but why purple? Just because it's Franceska's hair color?" "Pretty much," Blitz said with a shrug. "If she has some official mark or emblem, I've yet to see it, so until then, a purple F will have to do." "Speaking of which," Blitz noted, looking at a stand a short distance into the trading center, boasting a display of Franceska-themed cookies. Blitz walked over to the stand the woman was running, saying "I'd like one of those cookies, please." |

Jane saw what he did there. She saw the strange man with the incredibly tall hat scribble on that building. But she neither cared nor was it her job to report him. Painting on buildings was technically a crime but since it furthered their cause she was willing to overlook it. Though she did wonder how writing a candidate's initial on a random house on the street helped at all. If anything it could have detrimental effects to Franceska's fame. Regardless she didn't say anything and just handed a cookie over. "That will be one hundred jewels," she simply said. One of the other women in the stand noticed their exchange and covertly nudged Jane on the side. She gave her a judgmental look followed by a bright smile. Right, Jane was supposed to act friendlier with their customers and also ask them if they wanted anything else. She always forgot that part but it appeared to be standard sales "politics". "Will that be all?" she asked with her best rehearsed smile. All those undercover days at the beauty pageant really paid off. The streets were busy with many people going by but more people also meant more security. Unfortunately for Blitz his little act of vandalism didn't go unnoticed. A nearby knight approached him and lightly tapped on his shoulder. "Excuse me, but what you just did is a crime. I'm not going to arrest you over something this small but I will ask you to wipe that off," he said with a frown. What do you know, the knights did do their job from time to time. The little experience Jane had with them showed that they generally didn't do anything unless it involved important figures. She wanted to say something to help get the man out of trouble since they were on the same side but nothing came to mind. With his distinct looks blaming the "crime" on someone else was just not possible and it was the middle of the day. Jane wouldn't be surprised if there was even a witness for this small infringement. Something told her this guy got into trouble because of the way he looked more often than not. |

Blitz set the jewels down on the counter as he grabbed the cookie she'd given to him. "Appreciate it," he said with a slight tip of his hat. Blitz himself was already at the conversation's end - in his mind, he was already beginning to let his mind wander - but he paused briefly, halfway turned around already, shaking his head. "That's all for now, but thank you." However, another wanted business, and wasn't going to let the issue slide. Blitz felt a tap on his non-metal shoulder and turned to see a knight, telling him to clean up the graffiti he'd just made on the side of the building. Reminds me of Aiden a little, Blitz thought, but then again, with the whole 'devotion to duty' thing and being a knight, that applies to alot of people. "Fair enough, I suppose." Blitz said with a shrug. "Just figured that if it's got, oh..." Blitz glanced at the trader's corner building, still plastered with graffiti. "Maybe around 50 other marks on it, one more wouldn't be an issue." Blitz did, however, walk over and simply wipe away the purple F with a nearby cloth, though he did make sure to wipe out a blue S someone had written on the wall as well - figured if one candidate's symbol is getting erased, none of them should get special treatment, and hey, he wanted them gone, so I'm just helping, he thought with an inward smile. "All better. We done?" Blitz asked, keeping his tone cordial, but also keeping it calm. While he didn't mind cleaning up his own messes, someone trying to give him orders - however politely - usually boded poorly for the one trying to give them. Usually because Blitz just flew off and disregarded them entirely, so not really anything major to them, but poor results on their part. Fortunate for the knights - the one asking him to clean a mark off a wall would have found the joints of his armor fused together if Blitz wasn't as nice as he was. The knight nodded in acceptance and walked away. "Don't let me catch you doing that again. Just because others got away with it doesn't mean you should do the same." Jane watched the entire scene unfold carefully and once again caught a glimpse of something the tall man shouldn't have done. Not that there was anything wrong with cleaning the building of more slogans than there originally were there but he technically wasn't supposed to erase more than he scribbled. But that gave Jane an idea. What if she got rid of all the graffiti and flyers of the other candidates? If there were only slogans for the princess lying around it might influence a person or two. That said there were still people watching so she couldn't just go around selectively cleaning buildings. The people running the other two stands for one wouldn't just let that slide. Quite suspicious looking people too. Maybe this was a chance to find out what they were really up to. "I have to take care of something," Jane told the other women and abandoned her post at the stand. She had a plan in mind and someone was going to help her. Jane walked up to the tall man and politely tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me, do you have a minute? I'd like to ask for your help if possible. I noticed that you also support the princess so you might want to try and do something to help her. Notice the other stands selling baked goods across the street? They only appeared after we set up our own. I have a suspicion they might be up to something no good and I want to investigate them. Since doing that would end up making me the suspicious one I came up with a roundabout way to check their motives. If I start cleaning up all the slogans supporting Herad and Stefan wouldn't they take action? Now if they are honest people like us nothing bad would happen. If they are plotting something underhanded I want to catch them in the act. Can you keep an eye out for them while I act as bait? It's not that much to ask for, right?" Jane told him. |

Blitz's gave a brief little nod to the knight, though his expression soured briefly after the knight turned away. And that's why I don't like the knights, Blitz thought to his companions through their shared telepathy. Every one seems to have a stick wedged where the sun doesn't shine. No sense of humor. Technically, they're the law enforcement, Shoop said, though he used the word 'technically' as he couldn't picture them being a real threat to Blitz, so they have to stay professional. Comes with the job. I know, Blitz thought, somewhat exasperatedly, but it wouldn't kill them to chuckle now and then. Even that time that Aiden decided to block a tank shot with his own body and ended up flat on his backside with a bloody nose, still nothing. The guy tanks a shot - literally - and can't appreciate the humor. In fairness, it was in the middle of a war, Shoop countered. Meh, Blitz thought, ending the conversation, not feeling like he won, but not feeling like his argument was invalid, either. The knights seemed like they'd be more fun as a group if they lightened up a bit. Soon enough, he was approached by another, this one not a night, but looking more like one of the locals. She spoke of supporting Franceska, and helping her figure out if the locals around here - like that knight - were genuinely concerned about litter and grafitti or were just ordering the removal of candidate-related material that didn't support their own choice. Meaning I can slug that knight from before without regrets if he's actually selectively doing his job, Blitz thought. "Fair enough, I'll help you out." Blitz wandered over to the stands, keeping his eyes on the various wares, but in reality was focused on the area near the girl for suspicious activity. He was briefly interrupted by someone tapping his shoulder. So help me, if this is another knight, Blitz thought, almost prepared to be annoyed in advance, but it was another random citizen, holding a leaflet with Stefan's image stamped on it. Before they could open their mouths, Blitz held up a hand. "I'll pass, thanks." "But don't you want to hear about Stefan's plans for Fiore?" the person said. "I've heard enough to not vote for the guy, if that's what you mean." The person's expression turned to one of annoyance. "Why discard the idea so quickly? His registration of dark guilds helps keep down crime rates." "So does my presence in town," Blitz countered, "And I don't have to give the dark guilds a pass to do so." The person sighed and walked off, looking irritated, but also in thought, which was better than an angry ending to that little argument, Blitz supposed. |

Jane happily nodded back to Blitz and went on to put her plan into action. She picked up a tablecloth they were no longer using in their stall and started rubbing away the graffiti on the nearby buildings. Most of them were done with magical pens so simply applying a little pressure was enough to clean them right off. There were so many slogans and pictures of the candidates it was a surprise the city hadn't already called for someone to do the job so far. Jane made sure to leave just the ones in favor of the princess behind and steadily worked her way through the main street. "It's no use. Several people have done that but it's all the same in the morning. People will just not stop scribbling everywhere in the night," the same guard from before informed Jane. That made a little sense but that still didn't mean it was okay to abandon them. Going by that logic why should one ever clean their room? It was going to be dirty again soon enough anyway. Several minutes passed and Jane had almost finished cleaning her third building when she noticed a few people from Stefan's stall left their posts. She couldn't quite see what they were doing without turning around and making herself obvious so she kept scrubbing away and left that job to the person she asked in the first place. The men casually strolled across the street and arrived at where Jane had started her cleanup duty. They examined the graffiti up close and confirmed that the only ones remaining were the ones in favor of Franceska. They started chatting amongst themselves and shot Jane some angry looks before they arrived at a conclusion. They moved in the opposite direction as her and started circling around the block. At this rate they would essentially be right in front of Jane when she reached the end of that road. A crowded street it might be but there was still room for covert action. |

As the one trying to preach about Herad walked off, Blitz kept an eye on Jane, who was busy doing exactly what he himself had done - wiping off the graffiti for the other candidates while making sure the one for the princess remained intact, to the point of adding new ones if needed. After Jane had made it a few blocks down without much of anything happening, Blitz noted a few people wandering towards where she had started. Glancing across the street from the direction they'd walked up from, it looked like they'd come from somewhere over by the Stefan-themed stalls, which were notably empty, so either they supported Stefan and hadn't bought anything there, or they had been running the stalls themselves shortly before. After a moment of quiet discussion, they moved around the corner of the first building, just out of the line of sight of the main lane of stalls, though not before shooting an angry glance at Jane - apparently they had caught on to what she was doing. Maybe they put up some of those Stefan signs that she washed off themselves, Blitz thought. After a quick glance down either end of the lane to be sure no one else was approaching the moving trio or Jane, Blitz moved further down the lane, still in sight of Jane, before activating his Stealth Fighter tech to turn invisible, creeping just around the first building's corner, keeping tabs on the trio while also keeping one eye on Jane. If Jane's right, this is the part where the underhanded tactics bit probably begins, Blitz thought. Or at least more scribbling of Stefan marks on the buildings again. |
