Sure, Artorius could have worn a wetsuit but he was remarkably comfortable in his own skin. It wasn't necessarily outright confidence or a desire to expose himself. He was, after all, a thief and thieves resent the limelight. It's only natural. But, over the course of years of working in tombs and caves and the like, Artorius had lost his top more often than he'd like. It was almost as if there were some sort of perverse god controlling his fate who sought to make him shirtless at his whim. If so, what a cruel god that the women, and some men, of the world of Earthland can vehemently thank and appreciate. They finished carving up the boar like a Thanksgiving turkey in record time. They needed to as they didn't want the unwanted attention of the myriad of predators in this place. If there was a gigantic bear in this place, then surely other predators existed too. Just then, Artorius felt a momentary pang of guilt for slaying the patriarch and protector of this clan of boars. Though, he reminded himself that this bacon was exceptionally delicious. Whatever guilt he felt was washed away as that thought rang into his mind, echoing off the inside of his skull. It disappeared fully as they passed the boars, and then the entire horde stirred, smelling the blood and flesh of their protector, and immediately charged them. Karmic retribution. Lovely. "Run," Artorius said to Snow, but he knew that his words were unnecessary as she was already in a full jog beside him. The boars screamed and squealed at them and, while they weren't near the size of Tusker, they were each large in their own right. Artorius lead the way, scrambling to find some sort of exit throughout the winding cavern. There was no immediate end in sight, but they had to keep running to find something. Artorius didn't believe that these boars ran all the way through the same way they came for food and sunlight. There had to be some other way. If they couldn't find it, then they likely would be mobbed by these dozens of boars and their sharp sabre-like tusks. "This way!" Artorius shouted to her as they came across a ledge. Leaping onto it and then pulling her towards it, Artorius took a moment to catch his breath as the boars passed by, blindly chasing in the direction they thought the two took. Once the boars passed, Artorius broke into a fit of laughter. "This has been one hell of a day." |

Snow was aware of a sudden amount of onrushing pork all of a sudden, her steps already picking up as Artorius remarked for her to run. She would have been cursing out loud had that not required entirely too much effort in her opinion. She followed her companion as they attempted to escape the horde of angry boars. The litany of curses running through her mind as they moved forward would have put many a sailor to shame. The lucky ledge which she clambered onto with his help afforded her a moment to breath. When Artorius started to laugh, so did she. She felt they were both past the point of tired, and into what she classified as the exhausted sillies. It wouldn't take much for her to just sit back on the ledge and take a nap. "I'm not sure honestly if it's the best or worst day I've ever had. But there is certainly somewhere in there." Her legs were tired, her back was already aching, and her breathing was slightly short. She needed to get into better shape, she though vaguely. "I swear to god, I will slit a throat if this meat is even slightly tough." She said with a laugh that indicated she was only half serious. Her stomach grumbled a little at the though of good food. She watched as the pursuers ran on, most of them taking a winding path upwards. A single one wandered a little way down a side path, otherwise invisible from where they had been moments before. She pointed it out to Artorius before letting herself down from the ledge. The boar had been rather small, even given the size of the one they had fought. She thought it might be a decent plan to follow this path, but it looked even better as she got close. It seemed this particular pathway led nearly straight up, as opposed to the gentle slope they had become used to. She walked up, nothing that the sounds that should have come from the boar were absent. This path showed promise, at least in her opinion. The other way, now clogged with animals that would like to eat them, or at least kill them, seemed far less appealing. "Shall we?" She said to Artorius. Edited by Inara Serra, Oct 11 2014, 07:43 PM.

The ledge was essentially a literal god send. Artorius didn't want to think about running any further. His legs, hell his whole entire body was physically exhausted and his mind wasn't leading by very much either. As much as Artorius participated in crazy expeditions like these, the exhaustion and injury were nowhere near his list of favorite things to do. Although, he had to admit that it sure as shit made him feel alive. Nothing like a bit of thrill-seeking to liven up one's life. However, right now Artorius just wanted to get home. That said, he was incredibly pleased that one of the smaller boars had strayed behind. Artorius grinned and nodded to his companion after leaping off the ledge and followed the boar. Luckily, it did actually lead them towards the exit, but not until after taking them through a series of chambers throughout the complex interweaving highway that was this boar cavren. Fortunately, it was slow enough for them to follow, or perhaps it was that the two hunters simply had enough energy and fuel left to keep their legs moving. Either way, after one final turn, they found themselves led towards a chamber where they could see light and smell fresh air. His body suddenly felt revitalized, allowing Artorius to follow the boar through one last final run. The sudden change in light was almost blinding, causing him to cover his face with his hands. But, after finally making it through the cavern with a wealth of delicious pork in his pack, the first breath of fresh air was wholly reinvigorating. "Thank all the gods and goddesses..." Artorius spoke with a heavy sigh of relief. After travelling further, they wound up leaving the forest and emerging into a field of fuschia flowers. Immediately, Artorius realized that they were in the aptly named Fuschia Fields and, judging from the mountain range ahead of them in the distance, they had left through the northern section of the Lavender Forest. This meant that here was civilization nearby. Trillium was just to the east of their current location which, to Artorius, meant that he could take a train directly to Acacia and get all this pork stashed. Though, directly to the south was Poinsettia, meaning the rest of the journey wasn't a long one for Snow. "We've made it. Now, all that there is to do is to make the final stretch home." |

Going up and finally, finally out of the darkness of the underground was more than a little of a delight for Snow. She was as blinded by the sudden appearance of sunlight as her companion and it took a moment for her eyes to adjust. Still, the smell of the forest was around her and the scent of fresh cool(ish) air. She blinked several times to dispel the blindness and grinned. "Finally." She took a few deep breaths. She followed Artorius to the edge of the forest, finding herself in a field of flowers she was rather used to seeing. She had ranged this far in her exploration at least, meaning she was very close to home. She didn't know where her companion would be going, but she knew one thing. They were both going to be eating soon. She wasn't sure if they were meant to be parting ways or not, but she smiled at him anyway. "I suppose. Though, wouldn't it be bad if I ended up with all the good meat and you got home and had not that good meat?" She was teasing, though her wit was obviously suffering from her absolute tiredness. "Well, it's certainly not far to the Lavender Dog from here. I'll be damned if I don't close it down just to see what I actually got in the end." She hefted her pack a little higher. "You could come too if you want. I know you're at least half as tied as me. And that's nearly twice as tired as most people." Now she sounded vaguely like a creature in a fairy story talking nonsense. It wasn't her norm, and she realized it was a sign of her utter exhaustion. "Either way," she added hastily as she realized she'd been rambling. "I thank you for the hunt . And for saving my ass. If you ever need anything, you know where to find me." She gave a grin and got ready to head into town. Whether he followed or not, her destination was set. She had no plans for going further. She was dog tired (pun not intended but apt all the same.) It wasn't a long walk, but long enough when she thought about it. Enough to make her legs hurt and her back ache and the bag she carried seem almost too heavy. Almost. Still, she had gotten food, and a friend out of the days work. Not a bad deal in her estimation. Not at all. |

As good as the invitation sounded, Artorius had already made further arrangements to head back home and put the meat on ice, kick back with a glass of whiskey and a smoke, and fry up and dry some of the meat. However, the more he thought about it the more he realized that his companion who shared the information was inadvertently going to mooch off of him. Artorius shook his head at the thought, knowing full well that he had shared that information for that sole purpose. The man didn't like getting played, though he did plan on sharing some of the meat with him. Then, on the other hand was the invitation itself. Hang out with a somewhat sketchy guy or with a more trustworthy feminine companion? Smirking, Artorius knew the answer already without giving it much thought. "I think I'll take you up on that," he said to her with a soft smile. Besides, Artorius was exhausted both physically and mentally. Plus, he needed to pick up a few supplies for the journey back home -- namely a shirt, as he had been without one ever since that poisonous and corrosive cloud from those Great Poison Moths showered upon him. "Think nothing of it," he said to her. "What kind of man would I be if I let a pretty woman die on my watch? Besides, I doubt I would've been able to take down the boar by myself. You saved my skin more than a few times, you know." While the walk towards the Lavender Dog wasn't exceptionally long, it was long enough that Artorius could feel the fatigue in his muscles and shoulders settling in. Artorius wanted nothing more than to pass out on a soft, warm bed after putting the meat on ice and cleaning himself up. Matching these sentiments, Artorius did exactly that as they arrived. Artorius was the first to rise from his slumber, and Snow would wake to the smell of bacon and fried pork wafting in the air. The man had borrowed their kitchen and a few knives to slice and prepare some meat. Turning towards her, he grinned. "Breakfast?" End. |

This thread has been CATIFIED! Mazo: 6sp, 1,390,000J Ina: 6sp, 1,340,000J Notes: You assholes made me crave bacon the entire thread, it's not funny. It makes my cereal not taste as good. I did like the thread, and I liked that it wasn't a "Oh look a boar, let's follow the tracks and fight the boar" railroaded type of thread. There were unexpected turns, such as the bear, the insects, and the gas leak, and it genuinely kept me interested while reading the thread. That unforseen force that always has him without a shirt? Curious. As a bonus I read Snow turned red, I didn't know that was possible. |
